My friend and I came here for lunch and luckily we were able to parked overlooking the ocean, nice view and cool. We opted to order the Crab Sandwich as it was advertised as their specialty. It had a generous amount of crab meat filling and tasted pretty good. The full sandwich was good for two servings as it was fairly large. A little bit pricey for $38. The onion rings perfectly complemented the sandwich. In addition, we ordered the Combination Seafood Platter. It was delicious and more than enough to satiate our appetite for seafood. I've frequented Rockaway Beach many times but never been to Nick's! Restaurant is located right at the beach front. I called a few days before to make a reservation for a Saturday lunch. We came 30 minutes early but were seated right away. They gave us the best seat in the house right next to the window! We ordered the steamed clams, full crab sandwich with fries, and a bowl of clam chowder. They were kind enough to split the bowl of chowder into two separate cups since we were sharing. It came out piping hot and definitely hit the spot. The steamed clams came out directly in the steamer so it was also piping hot! The clams were huge!! The broth was very light and had a very clean taste and wasn't too salty. I understand why they say their crab sandwich is world famous now. It's loaded with crab meat and not skimpy at all. They don't put too much Mayo so the crab really shines. The grilled sourdough was buttery and toasted to perfection. The fries were also super crispy. Not to mention our waitress was phenomenal! They have a pretty extensive menu that's not just seafood like some costal restaurants are. One staple and a favorite go-to of mine is the crab sandwich. It's HUGE with tons of crab stuffed inside. Seafood can be expensive but this sandwich is worth it. They are definitely not stingy with the crab in the sandwich. I usually eat half and save the other half for latter. I've also had their calamari, which is good. Friends have ordered various other dishes and they too continue to return. SPACE: Nick's is located RIGHT on the beach. The view is beautiful. Wife and I were overnighting in Pacifica, and Nick's was close by. Our impression was one of decay from previous splendor, as if the place's heyday was four or five decades past. The menu had a lot of choices, but not many options for vegans or folks eating gluten-free. We started with the lamb chops and prawns appetizer. The prawns were over cooked and rubbery, but the lamb chops were delicious and nicely flavored with crisped fat over tender, juicy flesh. We loved the lamb chops, and wish we'd made a meal of them. Our main courses were braised short rib and sautéed prawns. I am not convinced that the beef was actually short rib, but it was fork-tender and the red wine sauce was flavorful without being overpowering. These prawns were even more overcooked than the ones with the appetizer, and the sauce was oily and bland. We were disappointed. For dessert, we had an ice cream dish that was quite a nice surprise. Very flavorful with a rich creamy texture. The place was clean, the service was good, and with the dishes varying between badly prepared and delicious, 3 stars seems about right. read more

Came in for dinner in December at night. This place has a cozy small town feel, which was nice to feel transported coming from the city. I liked that it's not all modern which is nice and nostalgic. Really enjoyed the band that went on at night - the volume was perfect so we could still talk comfortably. The food was delicious, it was exactly what you'd expect and comfort food at it's finest. We had the fried prawns appetizer, fish tacos, and a cheeseburger. All was delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked, and I liked that they were generous with guac and sour cream on the tacos. The only thing that was just ok was the fries, I think the restaurant should try another recipe to make them tastier. My recommendation is to sit at the bar at night because you still get a full menu (unlike bar table which only does appetizers and drinks), and the ambiance and lighting was much more pleasant. I have been to Nick's two times. One for a bowler's appreciation dinner and another time for a get-together. Neither time have I had their crab sandwich which they are famous for. On my next visit I definitely will try, or get one to bring home. When I was invited to the dinners, the food was good. I had a glass of wine with my dinner and our service was great!!! Very filling sandwich. With the weekend crowd, and my serious lack of patience, I decided to get a to-go order since I already knew I wanted to try the crab sandwich. They've got their togo area set up pretty good. Few minutes to get the order in, paid by credit card, and container of food ready to go in about 10 minutes. Slightly disappointed that when I asked whether they had ketchup and napkins in the bag, they said yes. But the real answer was No. Buttery grilled bread w a good amount of shredded Dungeness crab in a slightly mayo base. One slice of fresh cut tomato (wish there was more but it was pretty good.) Slightly greasy/ buttery. This is where the napkins would have come in super handy. Fries were good, but that's a minimum expectation when paying $30 for a sandwich n fries. Too bad no ketchup. Worth it if you're in the area and there's no line to eat in the restaurant. (Looked a little dated inside.). But I'm happy I got my sandwich to go and enjoy a better view from the car. I've heard so much about their famous crab sandwich so I finally made the trip to visit here. I love how its right on the beach so you have a nice view of the beach in the parking lot while you wait. I came at around 7pm on Sunday and it was around a 30 minute wait. They didn't have much of a waiting area so we chilled in the parking lot enjoying the beach. We ordered the Crab Sandwich with fries and Ribeye Steak Sandwich with fries and also a bowl of clam chowder. The service was amazing. Our waiter was so friendly and funny and constantly checked in on us making sure we were okay. Our food was great. The portions are huge and very flavorful. I really enjoyed the crab sandwich. Next time I would probably pay to get cheese on it as well but it was also great on its own. I only ate half before I was full. The ribeye steak sandwich was huge and also delicious. The clam chowder was typical but very good. Overall had a great time here and would definitely recommend to try it if you are in the area! The problem I have with Nick's is their food is generic and overpriced. I had the grilled crab sandwich with cheese for $29.70 (comes with fries or salad). For that price I thought it's gotta be pretty special, but it was crab on 2 slices of grilled sourdough with a couple slices of tomato. It needed some sort of aioli, or slaw, or sauce to give it some acid. The side salad was like it came from a salad mix you get at the supermarket with some vinaigrette. The entire lunch was something I could have easily made for myself. In comparison, an excellent blue crab sandwich at Sam's Chowder House includes a tomato-cucumber salsa and spicy remoulade on brioche bun for $17.95. Another disappointment was their beer. It didn't taste very fresh and once I looked at the label, I saw it was packaged in May 2019 (over a year ago). Their outdoor dining is set up on their parking lot, which overlooks the ocean. It's very scenic but there are no umbrellas, so we had to eat quickly and leave before getting sunburned (it was a rare sunny day in Pacifica). I hate giving a bad review to any restaurant during this difficult time, but I count to Yelp for honest reviews so I need to be honest myself. After leaving due to a long wait time and checking reviews, all negative reviews on wait time are 1000% true and I can personally attest to their extremely long wait times. The customer service provided by one of the older white women who was a hostess felt rude, not sure if she's just rude or racist because there are other reviews calling out racism at this business so you never know. If you do not make a reservation be ready to wait 30+ minutes minimum. If you read other reviews you will learn long wait times and some even feeling that they received poor service because of the color of their skin at Nick's is a common experience. We entered the restaurant at 4:40pm on a Saturday and were told "about 20 minutes, if you'd like to take a walk along the beach you can" this person took only my name down, no phone number or any other information. So if I took a walk on the beach how would I know my reservation is ready? How would the staff be able to track me down for my reservation? That's terrible customer service and this business practice needs to be changed. Anyways, we left after waiting for 30 minutes. Should have checked reviews before. This place should be honest about wait times instead of telling people 20 minutes so they can keep customers around and at their bar. read more

Found a parking spot in the lot behind the restaurant. They had a good size line to order. Menu's on the windows as you approach the order desk. Line moved fast and the weather was nice so it didn't really seem long. My wife ordered Shrimp Cocktail & Lobster Ravioli with a Lemon Drop cocktail. I ordered Clam Chowder & Crab Sandwich with French fries. We also order a side of garlic bread will a Widmer Hefe Beer. We enjoyed sitting outside, perfect view of the ocean, and perfect timing to see the sunset. The shrimp cocktail came with 5 large shrimps, served with cocktail sauce and a lemon wedge, her lobster ravioli was very good. Lemon Drop was perfect amount of alcohol. My clam chowder (bowl) was a perfect fit for the day. Hot to the last bite. One of the best I have eaten. The crab sandwich had a ton of crab, served with a tomato slice, I added avocado slices on sliced sourdough bread. Besides the flavor of the crab it was missing something, after eating their garlic bread which was fantastic, that would have kicked the sandwich up a notch. Garlic toasted sourdough bread would have done it. Beer was cold, great finish for the day. Overall a great experience. Bus boys cleared plates quickly, waitress was always checking in. I'm so glad we ordered the luscious sauteed prawns with mashed potatoes and a dazzling garlic herb white sauce which came with perfectly roasted broccoli. The prawns were tender, perfectly seasoned and memorable. We also tried a bowl of the clam chowder - not particularly remarkable - but ok. Definitely could use some more clams and a few dashes of black pepper helped to brighten it up. These two dishes were more than enough for the two of us for a nice beachside lunch. Service was quite attentive. Note that there was no shade in the outdoor seating area which was a bit of an issue on one of the warmest days of the summer. But with a hat and sunglasses and sunscreen - you should be fine. I'm guessing most days more typically much milder in temperature. So after a very turbulent year in 2024...today I decided to take a drive out to the coast via Pacifica. My timing was off due to getting a late start in the afternoon and traffic was so-so...so I took a mini detour off the coast highway and I ended up in the parking lot of Nick's Seafood Restaurant. Initially I wasn't expecting to get an early start on dinner but what the heck I said to myself...so I parked my car and walked into the restaurant and was greeted kindly and politely, was seated in a half circle comfortable booth which faced the view of the Pacific Ocean! I was greeted by Tiffany my server for the evening and I had a great time with her professional service. I started off with ordering an Arnold Palmer (I am driving solo) then proceeded to order their Steamed Mussels in a garlic & wine broth and added their very buttery Garlic bread. I held onto the menu just incase I needed to order another dish. The presentation was very impressive...the Steamed Mussels are served in large steel bowl with a lid appears along with a large bowl for the mussel shells, a bowl with a wedge of lemon to sip the garlic & wine broth and then a basket of garlic bread. It was delicious to say the least!!! Tiffany asked if I wanted to order another entree so I chose their crab-cakes but before she cleared my table I asked Tiffany that I wanted to take home the remaining broth and added another Garlic Bread order to take home. Yes, it's that good! When the Crab-Cakes arrived they were very fresh about the size of two Silver Dollars accompanied on a bed of fresh greens, a lemon wedge and some delicious tartar sauce. The crab-cakes were fresh, moist and delicious especially when eaten with the fresh greens with a squeeze of lemon and a bit of tartar sauce... I had enough room for dessert so I ordered their lemon meringue tart and a cappuccino. Both were a delicious way to end my evening while I was writing my review of Nick's Seafood. So, if you want to get outta the City and don't want to deal with the "Out-of-Towner's" at Fishermen's Warf...head down the coast for a treat!!!! read more

BUT, the reason I'm leaving this review is because of how they have changed significantly. I went here yesterday and got the usual crab sandwich. The crab meat was extremely thin. They used to have reasonable portions, good portions, for the money that you're paying for that sandwich .$28-30??? Completely utterly disappointed. The calamari....lol. Was a joke. Those little ass pieces were like calamari babies...I really loved this place but I am NOT coming back. I'll keep it pushing and go to Joe's lol.....I wanted to leave one star but I left two because of who I know works there. Unfortunately, the entrees were pretty disappointing. The fish tacos had no fish flavor and the corn tortillas were soggy by the time they hit the table. The fish platter was decent but not worth $45. The best thing on the plate was the deep fried shrimp since it was still crispy. Sucks because the vibe in the restaurant was great, especially on a Friday night after waiting and hour and a half for a table. Staff was super friendly and kind too, just wish the food held up to the hype the restaurant gave off. Dessert was good, the flourless chocolate cake was definitely more of a fudge and very rich (but in a good way since I love chocolate). The crab meat was totally drenched in mayo and it was really hard to taste the ingredients; I wouldn't have known if they used imitation crab meat tbh. The service was ok but they seemed understaffed. Despite many open tables, we had to sit at the bar which was fine but didn't get why they couldn't serve us at the tables. Wonderful food, good service (it was a bit slow at time but pleasant service) we weren't in a rush so it worked to our advantage. The place was packed the whole time we were there at 5pm. I suggest a reservation. They take large parties too. The garlic bread you have to pay for it but was buttery and garlicky but not overpowering. The fried fish was a lot of food and fish was fresh and golden outside, crunchy. The fish tacos were amazing, spicy but not too hot, nice flavor lost of fish and toppings. I didn't eat the tortillas and I was full! Had the mud pie and chocolate Sunday and coffee and all were the perfect ending to a great meal. This place is a family favorite. We come here for the crab sandwiches and they're delicious every time. Crab sandwich: Always packed full of delicious crab meat and a slice of tomato. I like it just like that, simple. But you can add cheese or avocado if you like. They recently changed the price to market price though which made this sandwich $40 instead of the usual $29. Prime Rib: Bone in prime rib. Delicious! I wouldn't say it's as good as house of prime rib but it's definitely up there. Nicks will be my second choice for prime rib moving forward.
