First time stopping by the Nike Niko's Montrose location. At first glance, the restaurant seems pretty small but once you walk in, you feel like you have been transported to the city. There is indoor, outdoor, and I would describe almost like a sunroom-like room for dining. I tried the gyro plate and it was pretty good. I do wish I had more tzatziki sauce but overall the flavors balanced each other well. The stacked the plate with plenty of meat. I came on a Sunday around 2 pm and waited approximately 35-40 minutes for food. Although the wait was pretty long, at least the food seemed fresh. To end off the meal, I decided to try the mocha cappuccino cake slice. The cake was nice and light and not too heavy. I do think the caramel flavor could have been more pronounced (as I could barely taste it) but overall it was good. There was an uncomfortable situation towards the end of my meal where one of the workers got upset at a patron for putting tea in a cup that was designated to be a water cup...however I noticed that many other patrons were doing the same thing. I tried this last year but at the kiosk location downtown and was so disappointed I vowed to ever go back however discovered the real restaurant version was at this location. Not only did this location have a lot of take orders but when you go i they have a huge desert section!!! Ok since I am Greek and have been to Greece many times I am very critical on the taste and presentation. 1. keftedes - very close to when I make them! 2. Village salad a must, they forgot the pepperoncini but when I asked not a problem 3. Spanakopita and tiropita - yum 4. Geez, I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed this place except that everything that needs to be said has been said. This establishment has been around forever and boasts a huge array of Greek inspired options. It's a Houston culinary institution for sure and is a great introduction to Greek cuisine The falafel here is pretty good, and the lamb gyro is a popular favorite. You get a choice of sides with the gyros. Their boiled yellow potatoes are simple and nice, though their fries are fabulous and probably some of the best in Houston. No joke! Don't forget some baklava for the perfect finishing touch! Their displayed baked goods always look amazing! What a cute spot! I love how authentic the restaurant is with the decor, food, and hospitality. The menu offers so many options from Greek inspired breakfast foods, lunch salads/sandwiches/plates. I also saw they sold gelato/ice cream?? So cool. I ordered the regular Greek salad, gyro sandwich and chicken and gyro plate. The Greek salad was so good with the feta cheese block on top. I couldn't stop eating it. Honestly the price was a bit expensive for what it's worth but I still enjoyed it a lot. The gyro sandwich was massive with tons of protein in it, and the yogurt was the perfect amount of light tanginess. Plates come with the option of fries, rice, or something else and my boyfriend got the rice. They gave a good amount of rice. I saw the fries on some people's plates and the amount was massive! Paired with a solid amount of gyro and chicken, my boyfriend was full off his food. I tried the chicken and it was so soft and fluffy. I had a doordash gift card so I ordered for pickup (since it wasn't on Dashpass aka had a lot of fees for delivery) on a Wednesday for lunch and overall had a great experience! I got the mini gyro sandwich, baklava frappe, and Greek yogurt. The mini gyro sandwich was delicious and surprisingly filling. I think the size was perfect for me since I wasn't too hungry. There was a decent amount of meat, half a tomato and a few slices of onions haha. Baklava frappe - they make this on the spot once you come in for pick up. While I thought that was considerate, this was not worth and I would not recommend getting it. Maybe a regular frappe or the chocolate frappe would be better, but it didn't taste anything like baklava, though I do think they blended a baklava in there, or at least pistachios. I mostly got the espresso taste, which is fine for me, I just don't think it was worth it if expecting it to taste like baklava. The Greek yogurt was smaller than I was expecting, but still yummy. I believe they also keep this in the fridge for you until you pick up. I probably wouldn't get it again, but its a nice snack. The yogurt is very thick, it has a good amount of nuts, and the honey makes it slightly (but not overly) sweet. Overall I'd love to come back for a mini gyro with fries. The entrees sound good, and they have vegetarian options, but if you don't eat beef, lamb, or dairy and don't want a chicken sandwich (like my mom) i don't think there's many options for you besides salad and soup, but that's just Greek food in general :P read more

Okay, so I've been meaning to try Niko Niko's for years, but for some reason I've never been. I woke up today with a massive craving for some Greek food and this was one of the only places open at 10:00AM. The parking situation is good, tons of open spaces when we arrived. Inside you just walk in and order your food at the counter and pick it up at the counter when your buzzer goes off. I've never actually tried Greek breakfast, but it was delicious. I also got an iced mocha which I was surprised they had. They actually have a pretty decent coffee menu and a nice array of desserts. Although I didn't try the dessert this time, I definitely plan on it next time which will be very soon because they have quite a few dishes I'm excited to try. read more

It pains me to leave a one-star rating for Niko Niko's because this restaurant is a long-standing Montrose institution, one of the oldest restaurants in Houston, and served consistently delicious food for many years. My mom actually introduced me to NN many years ago, and lots of other cuisines: Colombian, Vietnamese, Cuban, Indian - you name it, Houston, has it. Perhaps I may return someday, but my experience with NN was negative in April 2022. What made it even more subpar was the fact we came here (the drive thru pickup) to celebrate my late mom's birthday. The attendant/waiter Osiel was great, and he earned one star for the business. But I am docking 4 stars for a rude, incompetent manager who started arguing over not wanting to provide a tiny container of red vinegar, which is not something you do when a customer paid $40-50 for a family meal. Not only that, but the pita bread was soggy and sitting under the lemon potatoes, which were under-cooked. Not only that, but the manager stuffed everything tightly into a convenience store-type bag instead of the usual more spacious NN bag. I called back to discuss the terrible service, and the woman who answered the phone was pleasantly sympathetic, but she said someone named Robert would call back to address the concerns I had. Robert never called, and at this point, over a year later, calling back to make a complaint would be kind of absurd. But that's also why I haven't been back in over a year, too. Hopefully, service will be better should I decide to return because I really loved this place in the past. So many great memories there, but NN has lost the wonderful mom and pop feel they once had. read more

I found that extremely unbecoming for the simple fact that this is a counter service restaurant and everything is self-serve. I have to pick up my food. I have to fill up. I have to clean up my mess. We ordered the gyros with a side of fries, even the fries were strange tasting. Very strange. It actually became quite difficult to finish our meal, seemed the flavor got worse as we went. We tried to make things better by getting a dessert, we ordered the dipples which is supposed to be a Greek sopapilla, it was ice cold and hard as can be. Again I'm not positive if that's the way Greek food is supposed to be but it was not good. The place itself is very cramped inside, not much space to move around inside and you order your food at the counter. There is outdoor seating. They do not have baby seats and that was very inconvenient but we got through it. I always enjoy a meal at Niko Niko's. My buddy just got out of prison after 12 years in and the first place he wanted to go was here. There's always a line on the weekend, but that's to be expected with how good the food is! There was a line, but there's plenty of seating when you do get your order in, and the people behind the line are so friendly and helpful. What I love about eating here is the dividers set up between tables that they installed for Covid, not because they're there, but because it makes it nice and cuts down on the noise so you can have a good conversation.
