I stopped here in the summer as I walked back from a day downtown. I recently moved to Newport, so this just happened to be on my walk home. We got a thin crusted pizza...I think it was called the Italiana (artichoke, prosciutto, and the regular) and some wine. We thought it was pretty good. What we didn't like, and what took away a star, was the fact that the person in charge owner, manager, not sure) was demeaning one of his employees behind the cash register...for a LONG time. It was awkward and frankly bad business. The young boy seemed clearly utterly whipped. I think he got it after the first few minutes. We went to Newport for the day not realizing that it was during a huge boat show. Needless to say, there was no parking in town and all the restaurants were booked if you could even get to them. We found Nikola's as we were trying to get out of the boat show madness. What an amazing find!! The staff were friendly and helpful. We got there a few minutes before they opened but they seated us and we ordered drinks while we waited for the kitchen to open. The chicken and rice soup was amazing and the pizza was impressive. Ordered chicken cutlet parm - basic dish sent it back horrible you could tell the chicken was frozen and the gravy was awful- my husband ate his and rated it a 2 out of 10 the people sitting next to us ordered fries and you could tell they were out of a bag. One of the worst meals I have had on the island. In years past food has been great but has significantly gone down hill. The gyro wrap was 3 pieces of meat thrown on a soggy pita with a few diced tomatoes and onion underneath. What I have had at other similar restaurants is beautiful wraps with shredded lettuce, onion, tomatoes, olives and feta so big you need two hands to eat it. If that's what you are looking for this is NOT the place to go. The Greek chicken I have come to love is now over marinated, overcooked & way too salty. I heard great things about Nikolas, but we had a very disappointing experience. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day at this place! I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza, which came out looking like a sloppy mess. There was a layer water under the cheese, which was undercooked. The crust was no better than a frozen pizza I could get at the grocery store. Definitely not a traditional crust. The chicken was cubed, rubbery, and had a plain taste. It was easily the worst pizza I have had in awhile. I also order calamari to start, which was soggy, and also undercooked. It was served with cold marinara sauce in a ramekin. Big turn off right there. My wife and daughter ordered a cheese pizza which was decent, but nothing to brag about. And my seven year old son had chicken tenders and fries. He loved them, but he is easy and has never given a bad review. The chefs lucked out there. Not a place I would recommend, over priced, and below average service. I came here late at night last evening. The place was absolutely mobbed and by the time we ordered it would've been past 2am (which would've been well past their kitchen closing). The manager or owner informed my party he could've serve us that late and as we were all a bit tipsy, we may not have been the most polite about it. We walked into the parking lot to discuss other options and that same gentleman came out with a box of pizza and an order of garlic bread. He said "Just because we aren't able to take your order after 1:45 doesn't mean I can't give you something on the house before 2am" We tried to give him money or at least a tip but we refused it. Not only was he excellent, but the pizza was AMAZING! The sauce was sweet and delicious. So make sure you get in there well before 2am to order as the owner is responsible about following the law. It was past 11PM, and we haven't had dinner. So we were hungry and Newport is not exactly a late night town. Found this place on Yelp and it's near our hotel. We actually passed it a few times. So we went and they looked like they were closing, but they weren't. I guess it was just dead because of the hour. We didn't want anything incredibly heavy so we skipped the pizza. Frankly, we are from NYC so we'd most likely be disappointed with the pizza. So we ordered East West wings, and Asian Salad. Both were good. We were happy. I recently visited Newport and had the pleasure of dining at Nikolas. The food, service, atmosphere...everything was just fabulous. Arriving from Tampa, I was determined to get the best pizza I could find. Nikolas did NOT disappoint. I order the Ceasar salad and it was just so incredible. We also ordered the clam chowder. The absolute best chowdah evah!!! There was a spice in there that I could not identify. I asked the server. She was super sweet and had the chef come out. The chef kindly told me that the chowder was from a can at shop rite (local grocery) and they added some heavy cream and some dill. and there ya have it....the best doctored up chowder in the world. My date and I are still laughing about the best chowder in Newport comes from a can. It was hysterical. Kudos to the adorable chef for telling us the truth. The pizza was just the most delicious pizza and I can't wait to go back for more. Friendly staff, clean surroundings, and great people. The one star is for the food, because our waiter was nice, but WOW even down to the drinks it tasted like the dishwasher!!! It was 5 of us at the table, half the table got philly cheese steaks other half pizza. I had both, the pizza tasted like frozen pizza someone warmed up in the microwave!!! Nothing special...but for a Salve Regina student that sometimes needs to eat out or get take out...this is the place for that. I'm from New Haven, CT (the best pizza around!) and I know my dough. The calzones were lacking ricotta cheese and flavor (some garlic would have helped). Never ever have I see a ricotta-less calzone. Come on! The fish and chips are actually pretty good. The beer batter is crunchy and the portions are huge! Two big filets. Homemade tartar sauce and fries..YUM! I've heard the thin-crust pizza is ok. There is a good variety of topping choices and the 10 inch is good for a single serving..maybe even extra to bring home and put in the fridge. As far as service, the delivery is "fast and free", which is super convenient. The actual restaurant is pretty small so sometimes it is hard to get a table. The waiters always seem to be nice and helpful. I would recommend Nikolas if you need a quick, simple meal or just to share a pie. If you're just visiting Newport, try somewhere else...you'll have a better tourist experience at Brick Alley Pub (on Thames) or Salvation Cafe (on Broadway). read more

Just went back and had sammitches this evening, and they were rather good. I had the Italian, and my wife had a Philly. The Italian was tasty, with high quality meats, and not too strong of a dressing. The Philly, while not particularly authentic, looked good, and the wife really enjoyed it. Been here a few times, and they've got pretty decent food. The pizzas are slightly better than average Greek style pizzas. What I like about this place is the freshness of the toppings and the yummy ricotta they use. Everyone I know gets pizza with ricotta here and I can see why. Nice Greek style pizza restaurant. We've been here four times over the past few years. The atmosphere is inviting and the patio, now closed in, with the view of the street is appealing. The menu has great selection and has everything you would expect to find at a typical Greek pizza house. The pizza is average for Greek style (thicker crust pan pizza). Parking was easy, as they have their own lot so no parking and having to backtrack to get to the restaurant. The food itself was great.
