    Receipt from the restaurant

We dined here on April 20, and unfortunately I had a very bad experience after eating the tiramisu yaki. About two hours after the meal, I started having diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, and felt very sick for two days. I usually order this dish and they normally only serve one piece, but this time they gave me two pieces. While eating it, I noticed the taste seemed a little different, but I did not think too much about it at the time. After getting food poisoning symptoms, I honestly believe the fish may not have been fresh and they did not want to waste it. I just want other customers to be careful when ordering this item.

I love this little spot. Always full of life. It's grown on me over time. They put out weekly specials worth trying, and the sushi is fresh. Service is decent, simple, and feels family-style. The flavors here are lighter than many other places, but that's what makes it memorable. Not heavy, not overwhelming--just clean and honest. They offer all the staples: bento combos, udon, donburi. Nothing fancy, but everything steady. For a small old town like Walnut, it's a gem. #LocalFind #JapaneseInWalnut #SimpleAndGood

Came on a Saturday night and there were still some seats left. A bit small, but homey. The sushi and rolls were fresh and delicious. Wait staff were attentive and friendly. Recommend you trying this place out!

It's been a long time since we come here. Older ladies were friendly to serve us. I have the eel bento. My daughter had the miso sauce with cod. Food was delicious. The cod in decoration. was so tender like jello. A bit too salty. But overall it's delicious. This place probably could use some update in decoration but it's still such a hidden gem.

Food (5/5): Been coming to this restaurant as a child. This is definitely a hole in the wall and gem located in Walnut. Their amazing quality and authentic Japanese food for their reasonable pricing cannot be beat, which is why my family is a patron here. They typically have unique weekly lunch and dinner specials. Love their wide variety of dishes ranging from rice, noodles, sushi, and etc. I appreciate how they offer either water or hot tea (free of charge). We tried their nijyu roll for the first time, which includes toro, yellowtail, salmon, and blue crab wrapped in cucumber topped with a garlic/ponzu sauce. This was such a refreshing roll and for $21.25 and the quality fish you get, this was so worth it. Would definitely order again. Our other favorite is their Dreyer roll, but I noticed the amount of eel/unagi and avocado on top of the roll has decreased overtime unfortunately. I really enjoy their soba dishes. They offer both cold dipping soba or hot soba with soup, both including a side of tempura. Their hot soba includes fishcake. I appreciate how they are open every day of the week for both lunch and dinner now, with their last call for dinner being at 9 PM. They are even considering opening for breakfast! They are also open on Fridays-Saturday for afterhours (9:30 PM - 12 AM) and serve sushi, ramen, appetizers, and drinks. Service: (5/5) The servers are always very helpful and attentive. They always go out of their way to be as helpful as possible and ensure that you have an enjoyable dining experience by clearing plates whenever possible and refilling your tea/water often. They always make me feel right at home whenever I stop by for a visit. Ambiance: (5/5) There are a decent amount of tables inside, but can fill up quickly during rush hours. They had table and sushi bar seating inside the restaurant. They have renovated the interior since I started coming when I was a child to keep their fridge hidden by creating a server area before the hall to the restrooms. Their glass tabletops have menus underneath them, including their speciality rolls and contents, and also include diagrams to distinguish each of the different types of fish which is really convenient and helpful.

Great service! The store feels home-y and the staff is very sweet. Our food came out fairly fast and tasted great! Would come back again

Mixed tempura. Perfectly cooked. Not greasy at all.

We had such a great experience. Great customer service, clean, and great food. Made to perfection! We will definitely be back!

Great hole in a wall sushi place. Came on a weekday and tried their weekday special... it was amazing. Sushi is fresh, chicken teriyaki is cooked to perfection and the side dishes were all yummy. Will be coming back for sure.

Sashimi is great! Teriyaki chicken not so much. Portion sizes for the combo felt small but it was filling enough. Service was good though.

Trying this place with my whole family on a Sunday. This place is like a small mom and pop restaurant and we got there right when they just opened and they were able to accommodate my family with 15 people. They were so nice and made sure we were good. We ordered about 12 of these plates and it was pretty good and filling! It came with a small miso soup too! This plate was about $36 which isn't bad at all! I'd come back to try other food there!

Holy gem! Their nigiri deluxe is an absolutely steal. For $33.75 you get 8 pieces that includes 2 toro and 1 uni. That in itself is worth the price. It also came with a soup with a shrimp head in it. Every piece was super fresh on there and I dont like salmon eggs and they were nice enough to replace that with something else without making a big fuss about it. I appreciate it. Their fatty salmon is good, special salmon is okay. Its the same price so i'd rather pay $7.75 for the fatty salmon. My favorite piece is definitely the toro. Melts in your mouth like butter. Dont leave here without trying their desserts. I tried 2. Favorite one was the crème brûlée, that was chef's kiss. Fried banana with ice cream was good as well but i was too stuffed at that point. Its located by a vons, so bunch of parking available. The interior makes me feel like im in Japan. All of the workers were nice and i got my food super fast. Definitely coming back.

Review #1061~(San Gabriel Valley, CA)~ This restaurant has been our go-to take out restaurant because it is located less than 20min away from us. This Japanese served as one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants in the City of Walnut, CA., as some restaurant staff actually speak Japanese aka Nihongo. Food portions served here have been reasonable: a bento purchase can be big enough for two meals that is if you don't eat that much per meal. i get full just eating all of the tempura pieces since they were all deep fried. I especially liked the texture of all their tempura variants between veggies and shrimp pieces. Sauce: their choice of soy sauce tasted super light which made that a nice addition to the tempura pieces. We will be back again for another take out experience.

Authentic. Food didn't have the best presentation but it was delicious. Service was excellent - very traditional and seems family owned. Ambiance is on brand with an authentic Japanese restaurant with polite and attentive service.

The sushi tastes fresh, and one thing I appreciate is the rolls are always made well, nothing falling apart halfway through eating, which honestly says a lot about consistency. My kids were big fans of the tonkatsu ramen and finished it without complaints (which parents know is its own review category). The happy hour prices are also worth mentioning because you can order a decent amount without feeling guilty afterward. The biggest standout for us was our server, Bang. Friendly, attentive, and especially patient with my kids' food preferences. He was accommodating when we asked to modify dishes and gave recommendations. We placed the phone order for (1) roll and (2) macron ice cream things. (Which are already made and sitting in a freezer) We were told 25 minutes and so we waited about 20 minutes before I walked in to pick up my (1) roll, the only thing that required someone to make it. The front reception area was chaos with large parties waiting to be seated and scattered smaller groups of 3 or 4. I bypassed all that to get to the front and instead of a person is a tablet. All the human workers were scrambling around which told me they were "behind". I asked a worker about my phone order and she told me five minutes and took my payment. 35 minutes later I'm still waiting among the crowd who are also waiting to be seated. Workers are scrambling around like they just got trained that day. Confused looks and panic ruled the evening. Workers continued to jog past me to handing out drinks and trays of items and never checking back in with the small crowd. Confusion over clarity remained the theme as large parties asked why they haven't been seated yet. Small parties asked when they would be seated and I waited for (1) roll. A purely bad experience from start to finish from a place I've enjoyed in the past. The moral of the story is to expect the unexpected. Even though I've had pleasant experiences in the past here, I have to report the details of this visit based on its own merits and not prior visits. I ended up with my roll and it seemed like it was sitting back there somewhere ignored, like the groups waiting to be seated. It seemed not so fresh and like it was made 25 minutes earlier.
