Have been waiting for the Westbury location to open, but it's taking so long! We ended up visiting the Bayside location. Overall 3.5/5. We tried the tochucha ramen and karaage set on a cold winter day. The tochucha ramen noodles and broth all contain tochucha but not weirdly strong, it's good to try their specialty. However the chachu pork in the ramen is dry and lack of flavor. The egg in the ramen is slightly overcooked and also lack of flavor. The karaage set is pretty good, karaage itself is juicy and savory, the set also includes various items. Tipa amount on POS is calculated using after tax amount, which is wrong and misleading.
My brother, sister, and I had an early dinner at Nippon Cha. The atmosphere was pleasantly serene. The staff was very polite and attentive. For example, they would fill your glass of water without you asking. I'm beginning to learn japanese food terminology, and you can Google any unknown terms yourself, but I found them to be very interesting. As usual, we had a taste of each others dish. 1) First off, we ordered a large order of Yuzuyebasaki fried chicken wings in yuzu sauce. ($18). I loved them, 5 stars. 2) My brother ordered Tochucha Chirashi, basically fresh sashimi including tuna, salmon, yellowtail, scallops, ikura, avocado, oba. ($35). My brother gives the dish 4 stars. I'm not a sashimi person, but I have to give it a yummy 5 stars. 3) My sister ordered Nabe with seafood, cabbage, tofu, mushrooms, and scallions in Tochucha broth. ($28). My sis and I rate this dish 4 stars. 4) I had an Unatama bowl which consisted of eel with boiled egg in tentsuyu sauce, and tochucha rice. ($19). I found the taste of this dish, and any miso soup we had, to be a shade on the salty side. 4 stars. Overall, I recommend this restaurant, and give it a solid 4 stars.
One of my go to ramen spots on Bell Blvd. Street parking out front. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is clean with a big sushi / Japanese menu. Their dessert options are also plentiful. I ordered the spicy miso this visit and throughly enjoyed it. The food has always been amazing. I just had one scoop of matcha icecream to end the meal, lite and enjoy the wooden aesthetics of the interior decor as well. I'll continue to come here often, it remains cozy and enjoyable.
It's been a couple of years since I've had Nippon Cha so we decided to give them another try on a Sunday evening. At 6pm, diners were already filling up the place for an early dinner. We ordered the gyu-katsu to start along with 2 ramens. The gyu-katsu came first and looked like it was perfectly fried. The outside was crispy and the steak inside was medium to medium rare. The soy jalapeno dipping sauce was nice but a little salty if used too much. After a long while, I found it weird that having ordered within 2 mins after the table next to us, we still had not received our ramens when they were already more than halfway through their meal. When we flagged our waitress down, she realized their mistake and quickly alerted the kitchen to remake our meal. I'm not sure how they managed to lose our order but thinking back, I did see them bring 2 completely untouched ramens from the dining room back into the kitchen, so that made more sense after the fact. I got the negi ramen, which had a spicy pork broth and chasiu. The broth was light and had a hint of spice. The ramen itself was a bit soft and not noteworthy. The kara miso ramen had a spicy chicken broth and was even lighter than the negi. Both ramens were pretty average and nothing spectacular, but I may be biased as I prefer much richer broths and chewy noodles. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by this meal, but still appreciate having this classic ramen / matcha shop on Bell Blvd. If I do return, I would definitely get their curry beef udon again.
Haven't been here in a long time. Parking can be tough in the area but it's doable. You might have to walk a bit. We came in and it took a while for the server to get to us. She apologized but it seemed like she was the only one out in the floor for a while! Food was good and came out fast. They used to have like a make your own match thing? But I didn't see it on the menu. If they did remove it from the menu what a bummer
We ordered an variety of different items to try such as the Keisen-Don, Matcha Soba, Chicken Curry Katsu, Assorted sushi set. The seafood was fresh with no funky smell to it, the katsu was crispy, and the matcha Soba had just the slightest hint of matcha flavoring to it but paired very well with the dipping sauce. However, the rice was not our favorite part of the meal because it felt like the chew to it was abit stiff and grainy but overall the meal was very good and unique.
Dined here for lunch on a rainy day. My mom ordered the Tochucha Udon and I ordered the curry udon with beef. Shared a spicy tuna roll as an appetizer. I also ordered a matcha with coconut water to go. It was a lot of food so we packed the leftovers. The service, the food and the ambiance are great. Just be mindful it is on the expensive side. Spent a total of $70 including tip and tax.
We came for lunch on Sunday after church. They were friendly and service was very attentive. Inside was traditional looking with wooden tables and chairs. We got the tonkatsu ramen and the katsu don. The tonkatsu ramen with the tochucha noodle was very good. The broth was full of porky flavor. The noodle texture was dense and not as springy as the plain noodles. There were three large pieces of char sui. It was a solid bowl of ramen. The katsu was pretty typical. The meat was pretty large and the coating was crunchy. The rice was ok. Overall a good experience.
I think it's been almost 3 years since I last came to Nippon Cha, so I was excited to get their food again! I had their strawberry matcha, chirashi bowl, eel egg rice bowl, and their matcha tiramisu. Something that I've always liked about their food is that they infuse it with tea, and it was the same for the rice that came with the chirashi. But my favorite was the eel egg bowl! However I still enjoyed them all!
Nippon Cha Bayside delivers excellent sushi at a great value. I ordered the sushi feast ($55) and was impressed by both the presentation and variety -- from salmon and uni to scallops, eel, roe, and quail egg, every piece was fresh and beautifully prepared. The quality easily rivals some of the expensive omakase experiences in Manhattan, but at a much friendlier price point. Service was attentive and the relaxed atmosphere made it easy to enjoy the meal. For $55, the sushi feast is a fantastic deal and well worth it.

I had my birthday dinner and they were really accommodating with my party of 10. I reserved a spot about two weeks before and I was stunned to see a table all prepared the moment I walked in. I appreciate that they made the space for my group!! The food is so good that you can't stop eating. I got the tonkotsu ramen with extra soft-boiled egg and I finished it before I even knew it. In addition, for the quality of the food, the price is stunning! ($12 for a bowl of ramen!!). The takoyaki was also tasty (and it's served hot like really hot so watch out)! read more

Came across this cafe on my trip to NYC and was absolutely happy that I found this gem Wait time wasn't too bad thanks to a St. Patrick's Day event occurring My boyfriend and I originally started off wanting to tackle the matcha drinks thanks to the yelp reviews and figured we'd snack in the meantime Let's just say we were blown away by the appetizers which were surprisingly good beyond expectations We got the yuzu chicken wings, pork buns and shishito peppers. All were flavorful! Yuzu wings had a great crunch to them and the sauce was a bit thinner than I had expected but had a hint of citrus which was pleasant Pork buns were good, meat was tender. Nothing out of the ordinary Shishito peppers were good, nice and simple! Warning, you may find one here and there that carries a bit of a punch! And to top it off, the drinks were amazing. Food is always good, servers are beautiful and attentive individuals..... BUT THE CHEF WHO MAKES THAT MATCHA TIRAMISU !!!!!!!!!!! DESERVES THE BEST DESSERT CHEF AWARD FOR A LIFETIME. The tea noodles were so good, and many choices of the menu. Side dishes and seasonal dishes is very Delicious:) We also ordered the tea set for desserts. And very refreshing, the mocha tiramisu wasn't that sweeter all which is what I love ! read more

We were really in the mood Ramen but didn't want to drive too far. Saw this place on yelp and decided to try it, and so glad that we did! First of all the fried baby octopus appetizer was delicious (only thing missing was a light sauce of some sort to dip it in) but honestly it was so good with just the lemon. I got the Tori Kara miso chicken ramen (really good) and the boyfriend got the Negi spicy pork ramen with their special tea noodles, they were different but in a good way. I ordered the Tochu Cha Yuzu lemonade, so refreshing. I can't wait to try their other drinks! The hostess (broke down the menu and explained everything very well) and the servers were all super nice and hospitable. They made sure our tea was never empty. Came here randomly with my family. We all have different tastes in food. Everyone loved their dishes! I went for the tea broth and noodle ramen 10/10 would get it again. Large portions, great service and prices are solid! read more

Really delicious bowl of spicy miso ramen and the gyoza dumplings are also tasty! Inside was cozy and the waitress was really kind too! On a different day, I picked up their ume onigiri which was a great snack! read more

The food here was amazing for a ramen place located in Bayside Queens. We had the: Matcha Yuzu Lemonade- Well balanced and soothing. Tako Fry- Basically fried baby octopus not too crunchy and not soft at all. Great with first bite. Chili Tuna Tataki- Peppery and cooked perfectly. Miso Ramen- Much less salty compared to other ramen places I have tried in queens. But overall I enjoyed this. (Especially when you have a cold). Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. read more

We came here for the restaurant preview day today (4/28/2016). With every restaurant opening, I understand that not everything is 100% set, and customers should have a degree of leniency. This was day 1 so read on with a grain of salt. I ordered the "Make your own Matcha tea" set ($8). The matcha tea was OK. They had a whole demonstration with the chef that showed you how to make the tea smoother. Pretty cool i guess. The tea cookies were decent. On to the food.... we got the yakiudon and the unatama (eel with boiled egg in tentsuyu sauce). Both were OK, they were good but nothing special. The yakiudon has kimchi, but I prefer the St Marks version of this dish. The Unatama was bigger than expected with a good amount of eel. The waitresses don't speak English well so be prepared to explain yourself and have some patience as they work out their opening pains. The indoor decor is pleasant and I would come back to try their desserts. Not sure if I would recommend the food - I'll wait to see how they expand their menu selection. read more

We arrived on a Sunday evening for dinner at 7pm and was seated immediately; it was not busy. We had the pork buns, the tochucha ramen, the tochucha porridge. The tochucha ramen noodle was definitely cooked well and the soup base was similar to a tea egg flavor. The tochucha porridge is definitely enough to potentially feed two (we had to pack half of it to go because we ordered way too much food). The pork bun here was really good, but ask for the crunchy part of the lettuce! I feel that it makes all the difference in the 3 small bites of the pork bun because there are different textures incorporated that way; I had the crunchy part of the lettuce and my SO had the leafy part, and mine was definitely way more satisfying. Their iced tochucha lemonade is very refreshing and what's better than a complimentary beverage with a check-in? Nothing. Will definitely recommend, and be back! read more

Didn't get to eat here but got their tojicha latte since they're known for high quality teas. Seeing the barista in action was like watching a performance art. So much passion was put into making the latte. The result was one of the best tea lattes I ever had. Fell in love with the tea so I bought a pack of tojicha tea bags. read more

Came on a Friday night 40 min before closing. There's a lot of really good spots to get Ramen noodles in the area, but not many are opened so late. So I appreciate that they were still serving food after 11:00pm Having said that, this place is very average. The place is pleasant enough in decor and the staff. We ordered ramen. Spicy miso and the Shoyu ramen. We had a salmon karupatcho salad to begin. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. The only real complaint is they were cleaning up the entire time we were there and there was a very strong bleach smell. I think this is horrible. It's hard to eat and smell bleach at the same time. read more

It's been years since I came to this ramen/teahouse so it was a treat to reacquaint myself with this local Bell Blvd. restaurant. Parking might be challenging in the area but you can try the municipal parking lot a block away or the spots around the corner near the train station. We ordered the crabmeat uni ikura donburi, tea noodle ramen, uni chawanmushi, tempura udon, miso cod and karaage, a lot of food for only 3 people. Everything was standard but my uni ikura crabmeat donburi was exceptional. It was $32 but worth every penny. The uni was sweet and luscious, different from the steamed uni that was in the chawanmushi. They were also generous with the ikura and crabmeat. The tea noodles in the ramen were snappy and addictive. The udon and karaage were satisfying. The chawanmushi is comforting but order only if you're an uni lover. I would skip the dessert which was a parfait of matcha ice cream, adzuki, mochi, agar agar, strawberry slices and whipped cream which reminded me of the Filipino dessert, halo halo and nothing remarkable. Don't expect sushi. This is a ramen place and teahouse. I am glad we came back to remind ourselves why we loved this Nippon Cha in the first place. read more
Nippon Cha- very subpar. We started with the pork buns versus the takoyaki that most people seem to speak highly of and, honestly, I wish I got the takoyaki. Not that the pork buns were bad but it was pretty average and paled in comparison to the other pork buns I've had. There also wasn't that much meat given. As for the ramen we chose, my friend got the tonkotsu and I got the negi. Fair warning- if you don't like ginger and pickled ginger at that, don't get the tonkotsu or at the very least ask them to remove it. It's a very acquired taste to see the least. As for the ramen itself, the negi was supposedly spicy but I had to dump the chili powder they put on the table for it to become remotely spicy. There was also only two little pieces of pork that lacked flavor as well. The only thing that was good were the egg noodles but that's not exactly redeeming...all in all, I don't see myself returning to Nippon Cha, especially when there's cheaper and better options nearby. read more

Another ramen spot in the Bayside area! I'm very thankful for this because it means I don't have to travel so far if I'm in the mood for some ramen noodles that don't come from a package (not that there's anything wrong with that because I have a constant supply at home). The place is very cute and simple. More space inside than you'd think, but still seating is a bit limited if they get busy. The servers are nice enough, but they're either understaffed the past couple times we've gone or they're just slow because it was kinda hard getting anyone's attention once we'd gotten our food. I've had the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Negi Ramen. Both were good and met expectations. The portions were just enough, too. However, if you're feeling especially hungry, they do offer a double-the-portion option for $18.00 total for any of the ramen dishes! I've also had Chicken Donburi and the salmon onigiri. The salmon onigiri was okay... I could live without it. The donburi was good, but I think I would've liked some more sauce or something to add some depth to the dish. Seemed way too simple for the price (not even an egg was added!), but still tasty. I haven't had the chance to try the donuts or the matcha tea, but I did get to try the matcha green tea and tochucha ice cream and both flavors were delicious! Nice way to end the meal. read more

This restaurant is amazing and has greatly improved over time! Food is delicious and perfectly portioned; decor is inviting and comfortable; staff is always sweet and eager to make your meal a good experience! Over the years I find myself going back again and again for all occasions: weekday dinner, weekend treat, date night, GNO, birthdays, celebrations. Any of their warm bowls of noodles hit the spot every time. Portions are generous and sometimes I have food to bring home. Appetizers are served super hot and fresh. The chicken appetizer is fried perfectly and so flavorful! The gyoza is juicy on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The cold noodle bowl is such a treat on a hot summer day, I've had it a few times sitting outdoors during COVID summer, and also as take-out at home. The chicken is not dry at all. Onigiris are fresh and packed neatly. Even the cup of tea they serve as you sit down is steeped hot and flavorful. Both the matcha and tochucha ice cream flavors are rich and fragrant, mochi is made in-house and fresh every time, along with the little jelly cubes! Family-friendly, with ample high chairs and booster seats available. I've eaten here countless times, both indoors and outdoors -- pre, during, and post pandemic -- and wish I had more photos to share, so here are some for now! read more

I love nipponcha. Ive tried almost everything on their menu and everything is great (from ramen to ribeye) anything will be a safe pick! I think the must haves are the takofry and tochucha ramen. The tea noodles are so underrated! If you're looking for a date spot I was also highly recommend nipponcha for its ambiance :) (Price for the quality of meal and service is amazing) Please try the tochucha!! Also the service is great. All the waitresses are really polite and attend well. I have so much love for nipponcha the true gem in bayside. read more

I've been here several times and came back this week with my family. It's a pretty small place, but the atmosphere is really comforting. My favorite thing to order from here is their spicy tuna don because the tuna tastes really fresh and it's a nice mix with the egg and rice. I recommended it to my sister who ordered it and said she really liked it too. I know that they are mostly known for their ramen and other noodle dishes, but I haven't ordered those in a bit and can't speak on it too much. In all, I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get some Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. read more

One of the best ramen restaurants in Flushing / bayside area. I love their shishito peppers. Their udon is delicious. The spicy miso ramen is good but felt something was missing, I think the regular miso ramen taste better. read more

Ordered takeaway during while NY is on pause. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and care this business takes in packing their food, almost as if dining in. Really enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Donburi, the takoyaki and the fried chicken. Glad to be supporting a local business. read more

UPDATE: I've been to Nippon Cha a total of 12 times since my first time...i know, that's a lot, i should probably slow it down, or maybe not. I am IN LOVE with their tea, food and desserts. Everything at this restaurant is made to perfection, if you don't stop by when in the bayside area, you are making a mistake! Came here for the first time on a dinner date with my little cousin. I had seen pictures on Instagram and well, as you all know, I saw a pretty picture of uni and had to give it a go. BEST decision I made! Nippon Cha is by far one of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever been to. And the funny thing is, this isn't exactly a restaurant, it's a tea house, and most of their items are tea based! (SO COOL) The interior is small but cozy, it's rustic, the walls tables and seating is all wooden. Their menu is about 4 pages from and back, and is super descriptive about what each dish is and what it has in it. What really makes it stand out is that they have a clear photo for each dish they serve. I haven't tried too many ramen places, I could count how many I've tried on one hand, however this one tops them all. My favorite ramen dish is their spicy ramen with their tochucha noodles, which are their tea noodles, they give you the option of choosing those or tradition ramen egg noodles. The tochucha give it a nice flavor so I continue to order those! Everything that I've tried here has been exemplary and I will continue to come to dine and take out! read more

During this pandemic, one of the things that truly cheers me up is when my husband buys take out from Nippon Cha. The online-ordering process is easy and the food is neatly wrapped and put in containers. Everything we have ordered tasted delicious - the curry katsu, tonkotsu ramen, grilled ribeye. The soup for the ramen is always flavorful and the eggs are made just right. My favorite is the fried baby octopus. It's so crispy and tasty and the sauce just makes me keep on eating. We will definitely come back to buy more take out! read more
