I have used them for several years now and have been VERY pleased. The reason I did not give 5 stars is because I just got shocked by the cost of spark plugs: $29 each, almost $120 for four!! In retrospect, I should have asked for the price BEFORE installation Searching online, I can get the same spark plugs (NGK BKR6EKPB-11) for $41 **for a set of four**. i have taken my 04 Excurision to Nishsikawa Auto Service for a couple of years now. They are always extremely helpful. Two years ago they were able to get me two new batteries (Excursion uses 2!) under warranty for batteries that I did not purchase from them!! Just today I called as I was waiting for AAA to come and jump start my Excursion for the second time in a week. At 4pm they were able to get me two new batteries again, under warranty!!! No charge to me!!! I am so glad that I happened upon them a couple of years ago!!! read more

Well, I've been taking my 24 year-old Toyota here for years and never felt ignored or dismissed before last Wednesday, 7/9. I don't know if Joe was having a bad morning or WHAT...my car's brake lights were not turning "off" and I'd had to disconnect one of the battery terminals the night before so the lights wouldn't drain the battery. I brought the car in that morning, at 7 a.m. and waited for the shop to open. I told Joe the problem and he thought it was "electrical." He told me he "didn't know how long it would take to check out" and couldn't help beyond that. I asked whether it could be the brake pedal switch (I had read this online) and could he just take a quick look? Nope. He actually suggested that I do it myself!!! Really? I felt very frustrated as I didn't have all day to wait and meanwhile the brake lights were still "on" wasting battery life. I felt dismissed that Joe could not or would not brainstorm with me a little bit as to what I should do. So I left. No, I did not cuss him out. I instead called the tire place I had bought tires from years ago and asked if they could help me. They said "bring it on in and we'll take a look. Sounds like the brake pedal switch." This place is BRAUN TIRES on Colorado Blvd in Glendale. Dave is the manager and what a sweet man. I was out of there in less than 45 minutes and it turns out that it was the CLIP that holds the brake pedal switch that needed replacing. NOT a problem with the electrical system, Joe! I really am disappointed that Joe did not take the time to at least check out the brake pedal switch (or have someone else do it) and really feel it was because he may have been in some pain and just didn't want to crouch down there. But to suggest that a customer do so (who also has joint pain) was ridiculous. Not only that, but a customer who has been loyal for years. I felt I deserved more consideration. I will not be back nor will I be recommending this place any more. read more

Maybe it was just me because I had a different experience than the other yelpers. I took my car here and was overcharged. Joe went over the bill and gave me some of the money back, but I felt had I left without disputing the charges I just would've been duped. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt & hoped the billing error was a mistake so I recently called for a quote and was given the same exact quote as the dealership. If I'm gonna get duped it should be where I expect it at the dealer. I won't be back for more. read more

I purchased a used 2002 Honda Accord Coupe 4-cyl VTEC last week and the horn wasn't working. I had seen a mechanic yesterday and he told me it would take him an hour to look at the diagram and thinks it's most likely the relay and would charge me $150.00 to fix it. I called Nishikawa this morning and David answered the phone and I told him about the problem. He told me to stop by and he'll take a look at it. He checked the connection and that didn't work. And then he removed the fuse box lid and the relay was missing. So he says, "I think I have a relay, let me go check." And sure enough he did and connected it and my horn was loud and clear. I asked him, "How much do I owe you?" His answer, "Nothing." I am so thankful and appreciative for a trustworthy mechanic. Nishikawa will have my business. :) read more

I must say I had a very good experience with the recent repairs at Nishikawa on a 2007 Acura MDX. I called ahead a few days earlier to inquire if they could repair a leaky power steering hose. Not only were they able to give me a rough estimate over the phone but also they let me know that it could be done in a few hours. I dropped off the vehicle the next morning and within a few hours, Joe called me to confirm the work that was about to be done and a final estimate. In a few hours, the work was complete. They also gave me advice on what to watch for with the power steering and also how to search for recalls using the Vehicle ID Number (VIN). The steering is smooth, no more noise, and the car runs great. They are honest, very knowledgeable and reasonable. I would highly recommend it. read more

I've been there for 30 minutes and could easily tell that everyone there is honest and trustworthy. My engine light was on and I thought I didn't have warranty, but the guy called Ford for me and made sure. It ended up that I did have warranty and didn't know so I saved money because they sent me to the dealership! Recommend highly! I'll be back there 100%! read more

I really love these guys. Joe and David are sweethearts. They took good care of my car and even dealt with my difficult customer antics. If they said they would fix something, they'd fix it in the time frame they gave you. David even offered to show me the anatomy of my engine since I was taking an auto class at pcc. Since I started driving the 05 legacy back around 2010 theyve been taking care of my car. Only thing that happened was after my 60k mile check was done my mom got upset that she didn't give the okay for it, whether that was a misunderstanding or not I don't know. read more

Kept hearing this scraping sound coming from the front of my car. Figured it was the brakes, but still brought it in to get checked. The reviews seemed positive and this place is walking distance from my house, which is really the reason I chose it because it's pain to have to leave your car somewhere. Anyways as soon as I drove in the lot, the tech said "sounds like your brakes". He said they would check it in about an hour and call me. Later they DID call me and advised me of the estimate which was about $330 to replace the pads and rotors. Seemed reasonable. The only negative (and this seems to be the case with ALL auto repair shops) is they tell you they will call when its done, but they NEVER CALL. I eventually just walked over there and had to ask about my car. It was already done, but was waiting for "paperwork". Eventually I got everything done and I was out of there by the afternoon. They seem like honest people and I will probably go back if I have more problems with my car. read more

These folks are the best! I've not needed many repairs on my Highlander, but when I have this shop is great. They are fast, reliable and I've never paid more than their estimate was in the first place. Some times I wonder how they stay in business- Highlander's tend to warp the rotors on the brakes. First time I had them fix it I paid a reasonable price for the repair. When I went back in a year later- for something else- they replaced the rotors for FREE. I just moved to Pasadena a month ago, and trusted Yelp with finding a new mechanic. The place is a little scrappy looking upon arrival, but Joe and his crew at Nishikawa are affable and honest- while waiting my turn I watched them deal with a few customers, and they really seem to make sure a customer is getting their car fixed properly, and if possible, at a good price. They seem to have a pretty loyal following around here. For my car's AC issues they even called the local Honda dealer first to see if it would be covered under warranty- now that's honest! I drove away yesterday paying far less than expected with cool air in my face. Looks like I found the place, and in a great convenient location- shops nearby, and only a 15 minute walk into Old Pasadena. read more

HONEST & FAIR! I needed my A/C looked at and repaired. I told the repair guy that I wasn't willing to spend more than a certain amount to get it fixed and for him to let me know how much everything would be. Not only did he call and tell me exactly what was wrong but he also advised me not to get it fixed based off my budget that I told him about up front. He was very kind about it and not pushy at all! When I went in to pick up my car I was expecting a $79.99 initial service fee (which I had agreed to- it's their standard for looking at a car I believe), he told me there was NO CHARGE! I was floored. He said that he didn't need to charge me that fee because he could tell right away what the problem was and hardly took him any time at all. I've been bringing my car to them for over 6 years and have always been very happy with the work they've done, which in addition to general maintenance, has included replacing the engine, clutch, brakes, and... well, they've done it all! Their prices are very fair, and they are honest. They will tell you straight what you need, what it will cost up front, and generally put your mind at ease that they are taking care of your car. I had originally brought my car in to have the brake replaced and it became apparent to them that I needed new rotors due to the salt air that had corroded my old rotors from living near the beach. Their labor is cheaper than a dealer would have cost and they helped me find higher performance parts that are less expensive than dealer parts would have been. Great experience here. My Dodge Ram had a brake light out, and it started to lose power in the engine as it wouldn't go above 40 mph. Took it in got a call the next day from the nice guy there (forgot his name-sorry) saying it would cost around $350 to replace a brake socket and something in one of the cylinders. I said do what you have to do. The next day I went to go pick up the truck and pay, and the total was $180 for the above mentioned parts and service so $170 cheaper than what I thought it would be. I thought that was VERY reasonable, AND they put $10 in gas in the truck. :) VERY happy and could not recommend this place more. read more

Took my van in for the second time at this shop. The first time was on the recommendation of Bill at McCurdy Body Works who I have great faith in. The first repair was an alternator replacement. I drive a 1 ton van with a diesel engine, so working on it can be a bear, and there are always 3 or 4 possible parts listed for anything. Joe found the correct alternator and did the replacement. Cost was list on a rebuilt alternator (about 1/3 the cost of a new one) and 1.5 hours labor. Unbelievably reasonable! My serpentine belt went yesterday, so the van went over to Joe. It took about half of today to get the right belt (doesn't surprise me - there are 7 listed for this van with this engine). Before putting the new belt the mechanic looked to see if he could figure out why it went. It turned out that when the AC compressor was replaced (by another shop) the pulley had one groove to few for the belt. It took about a year for the pulley to cut through the then new belt. I really appreciate someone taking the time to figure out what went wrong, not just "fix the problem," which appeared obvious. If they had replaced the belt I wouldn't have thought anything was wrong, and a year or so from now I would be in the same position. read more

Joe is AWESOME!! I was in Pasadena looking at a car that I was considering buying, only one problem - my mechanic was located too far away! So I found this place through Yelp and called Joe. Being two days before Christmas, swamped, and understaffed, Joe still relented and let me come in. Once there, he took his time inspecting the car, and giving me his opinion about it, including all of the (many!!) questions that I asked. And to top it all off? When I profusely thanked him and asked him what I owed him, he didn't charge me a penny!!! Now I wish I lived in the area :) So, if YOU do, I would recommend you take your car here :) P.S. the sad part is that my regular mechanic charged me to take a look at another prospective car - and gave me even less info on it!! Finding a good, honest mechanic can be difficult, but Joe (the owner) and his people fit the bill. I've been taking my vehicles here for a few years now. They've consistently provided quality mechanic service at relatively cheap rates. And they're honest. One time I took my vehicle in because of a terrible grinding noise in the rear brakes -- thought for sure I needed a brake job and was prepared to spend hundreds of $. Joe found out it was a rock caught in or near the rotors. Charged me about $25 for the labor involved and sent me on my way. Could have taken me to the cleaners but didn't. My only (mild) criticism is that it can sometimes take them a while to get back to me with the diagnosis. But I'd say that this is more than offset by the fair and honest service they provide. Joe will also take the time to explain the problem to you in simple terms. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Very solid choice to have work done on your car in Pasadena. I've been going here for a couple of years (though I had already reviewed it). This place gives you nice options (you can request lower-price synthetic oil over factory, for example) and is willing to explain stuff to you in detail. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There's a reason this place is so busy: reasonable rates and capable, honest mechanics. A little bit hard to see from the road, so make sure to come from the side of the road the shop is on. Took my '07 BMW to Nishikawas after a recommendation from a friend and I couldn't be happier! New Century BMW told me I needed to replace my oil pan seal at a cost of $1200 and that I needed two parking bulbs replaced as well. When I brought it in to Nishikawas Joe said it was odd that the oil pan seal would need replacing as that is something that they don't normally need. After checking it out I did NOT need the seal, just a clamp and some tightened bolts, and the two bulbs were fine...total bill, $55! They saved me over $1100! I won't be going back to New Century BMW but I will be Back to Nishikawas Auto Service! read more
