I was looking for ice cream around Old Town and Yelp guided me here. It was a cute ice cream shop, quite spacious, and just a block off the main strip in Old Town. They served nitrogen ice cream but we just got regular small scoops for the kiddos. The cookies and cream ice cream didn't taste that great (tasted a bit old) and the praline and cream tasted okay but it wasn't special at all. I am so glad we came. I have never had ice cream made this way and I must say it is very fun to watch. Better yet the ice cream was very good, extra creamy texture and a richness that really shows they use quality ingredients. Great nitro ice cream. Anyone who thinks cold stone or it's compatriots are better obviously has an undeveloped palate. My only disappointment was in their menu offerings. The photos of fancy milkshakes and sundaes overflowing with chocolate aren't available in the summer, or so we were told. I would still come back to try more flavors. We were looking for churros which they had for a food deal, so good, that we walked a few extra blocks through old town to find this place. However the churros were not as good as I expected. And they took 7 minutes to prepare! I bought one from the lady at the entrance to the Fiesta de Reyes which were much better. The ice cream did look good so I would consider going back to try that. read more

Huge disappointment. I was excited to see the place open next to my favorite sushi restaurant. And as weird as this sounds, I was excited to see that the prices were super high - it promised to be something special. If somebody is going to pay $10 for a milkshake, it must be pretty spectacular. It is not. When my order number was called, I was surprised to see it served in a dinky sundae glass. The ice cream was hardly cold. It was dripping onto the plate like rain. The milkshake consistency was like... milk. They literally threw two caramels - the ridiculously chewy kind - on top. I found this out the hard way and spit it out immediately. Five Chips Ahoy cookies were glued to the outside of the glass with some sort of confection. I gave the shake three sips and carried it back to the front counter. The guy at the register didn't seem surprised. No questions. He told me to have a nice day. I was told that this is the only Dr. Freeze in the U.S. - the rest are in Brazil where, perhaps, there is a different interpretation of how ice cream should be. The ice cream had a weird, artificial taste; ended up throwing away half the serving. Took about 15 to 20 minutes to receive the order and the total came out to $22.52.
