Took a chance and walked in for dinner. Sat at the counter, and it worked out great. Their yakitori was yummy and very they had a good selection. Ramen was tasty, broth was clean and flavorful. Nice vibes and staff were friendly. Sometimes you find gems when not planned.

Two of us came here for an early dinner tonight and had a great experience. Everyone on staff was lovely, friendly, and attentive. Nice atmosphere, although I'm guessing that later in the evening it might get a bit loud. And most importantly, the food was really good! I had the cod cream udon and I absolutely loved it. My companion had small plates: eggplant dengaku, a tofu skewer, and an eggplant skewer. They were delicious as well. The prices seemed reasonable for the excellent quality of the food. Highly recommend.

On a sweltering summer day, we found ourselves at nonono on Madison and East 30th for lunch. The cool air conditioning and urban shiek welcomed us in, and we ordered and got our food very quickly. We started with a wasabi tuna roll, with a little spice to activate our taste buds, then we all shared a Yasai Udon - deep, umami flavors - a Shoyu Chintan experience set with brothy ramen and perfectly cooked knobs of chicken and strips of beef on sticks, and a Yakitori Teishoku, kabobs and assorted sides combined for a fun and varied meal. We downed the food almost as quickly as it arrived. This is a great little restaurant. If you're looking for authentic, traditional Japanese place, this is the one to try.

I only ordered takeout so this review is for the food only. nonono first caught my eye in 2023 for the funny looking name as I was browsing Google Maps for nearby restaurants. I ate a boatload of carbs (pizza :D) one day and desperately wanted some protein for dinner so I wound up ordering a bunch of yakitori. Everything sounded good, there's quite a selection of chicken parts, with more limited beef, fish, pork, and veggie options. The food was simple but cooked well and very flavorful, even for the "boring" cuts of chicken like tenderloin and breast. My favorite wound up being the breast with skin because even though the skin wasn't crispy, it balanced out the lean meat with a pleasantly rich fattiness. I really want to dine in next time I'm in NYC.

When I went here the first time I didn't like it too much but I gave it another chance and the second time around it was actually really good. The cod cream udon was a real standout to me personally, I haven't had a dish like that in a while. The Izakaya was good & better than the items I had last time, granted that was years ago. The cocktails were also good albeit I'm forgetting what I had. I'd return back!

This restaurant was so delicious and such a vibe. This place was hidden in a corner and I'm so glad we checked it out. There was an upstairs eating area as well as seats on the first floor. We ordered a variety of dishes and the Karage and ramen were my favorite. They also had fun drink options to choose from. Service was great and food was delicious :)

The service here is great and the workers are friendly. This place is modern, clean and has a decent amount of seating. There's an upstairs and downstairs floor. I recommend making reservations. The tori tantan ramen was flavorful and had a strong nutty flavor. The skewers were delicious, especially the short rib. The cod roe cream udon was really saucy and enjoyable. The Suishingen tasted light and wasn't too sweet. Definitely would come back here.

Honestly more of a 2.5 if I'm being frank so this is me being generous. It's usually a wait with no resy but that's fine. The last time we were here prob 6 months ago, food and service was p good. But this time...things went downhill. The cod roe pasta was bland and nothing outstanding. The skewers were fine but took forever to come out. In fact, our food came so slow that 2 different servers including our own assigned waitress asked if they could clear our table and one time she took away all our utensils and napkins before learning from us that we are stil missing 3 items! Crazy...I have no words but other than I kmow you're busy but please find a way to fix this service. Lastly we tried to order dessert. We asked for a regular hokkaido milk soft serve and within 5 min asked to change to matcha parfait (which uses hokkaido milk soft serve as a base). Server said too late. They make it v fast but lol the dessert took some time to come out so I suspect they def could've changed it. Would NOT be coming back in a while! The icecream was tasty though - best part of the meal!

Super dope Japanese ambience. They have the yakitori grills out in the front which is cool to see. Stellar pricing for the quality of food. Great place to bring friends for a family style feast. Drinks A+. Get the salmon tataki, zuke maguro, kinoko, sukiyaki udon, and chicken oyster.

Wanted a quick pick me up after a meal, and we were seated right away. The restaurant is really cute, featuring two floors, and the restrooms have sliding doors. The food itself was really delicious. I enjoyed the yakitori. I ordered the chicken, heart, liver, and gizzards. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was pretty good overall, I have no complaints. Definitely a great place to enjoy Izakaya menu options.

Nono NYC seriously exceeded expectations. The sushi was SO fresh and flavorful, and the ramen broth was rich without being too heavy. Everything tasted high quality and made with care. The staff was super sweet and attentive, and the whole restaurant had such a cozy vibe. Perfect spot for a casual dinner that still feels special. Already craving the ramen again

A solid place! Came here on a Friday evening with family for the very first time. We were seated upstairs towards the back - it was a nice and cosy spot. Ordered a bunch of yakitoris. The chicken ones were very good. The kids loved the DiY hand roll - it was tasty and also fun for them! They had matcha parfait on the menu for dessert. It came with their own home made matcha jellies which was very good. Glad I was able to check out this restaurant after all these years.

This was a somewhat casual Japanese restaurant, a stone's throw away from the chaos of Herald Square. We popped in for lunch. It's a two floor joint but the most scenic seating is on the bottom level. For mains, we ordered the Cod Cream Ramen and the Sashimi Teishoku. The Cod Cream Ramen is the dish that keeps me from giving this place five stars. It was texturally great with heavy cream galore but did not have the punch from similar versions of this I've had in the past. The Sashimi Teishoku was truly a five star dish. The fish quality was MUCH higher than expected. For dessert, our only choice was the Suishingen, a "rain drop pudding served with soy bean powder and brown sugar sauce." Sometimes less choice is better. The look was unique. It was firmer compared to something like jello and the brown sugar sauce and soy bean powder made for a familiar yet welcome Asian flavor. Service was appropriate to the casual nature of the restaurant. Would I come here again? if I was in neighborhood, absolutely.

Do you offer takeout and/or delivery?

    Yes they do

Trying to make a reservation online and was asked to choose my preferred seating. What is the difference between "indoor dining" and "dining table" - the only two options provided?

Hi, thank you for the inquiry. You can choose "dining table", that's the only option we have at this time.

Will you have new items coming soon?

Their menus look extremely old, so I wouldn't bank on it.

Does this restaurant accept walk-in seating or is it reservation-only?

They accept walk-ins. Probably make a reservation if you don't want to wait though, especially during busy hours.

    Is there outdoor seating?

There has been during COVID and not in the winter.

Are there gluten free options? If so, is there a GF menu?

I don't think there are gluten free options as far as I know. To confirm you'll have to call the restaurant.

Is it open seating at the bar?

    Yes.

    Are there vegetarian options here?

Yes they have vegetarian options available.

Are there a lot of gluten options? Is there a gluten free menu?

There was not a separate GF menu when I went but there were many, many GF options. Careful with the sauces but not a hard issue if you've been around the block before and/or have a knowledgeable server.

What kind of attire should I wear? Can I dress up to go here?

It's a casual joint. If you want to dress up you won't stick out per say. I saw a table of women dressed up for GNO and a table clearly on a date. It's not like dressing up and going to a dive bar. You'll be fine however you dress. Hope that helps.

    When is the happy hour?

Not sure what time it starts but it ends at 7pm

The katsu was very, very moist on the inside, with a crispy batter that was so light it was almost flavorless. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the tenderloin and pork loin. Overall the dish had a very light flavor and I added quite a bit of sauce and wasabi. Some of the less memorable dishes were the eggplant agebitashi and truffle rice. The eggplant agebitashi tasted like a cross between an eggplant parm and a bolognese. The truffle rice had a very strong truffle flavor that ended up overpowering everything else in the dish. I thought the slices of raw button mushrooms were a little strange. I really enjoyed the sabazushi. The pieces of mackerel were thick and carried a lot of that characteristic mackerel oily flavor, but the oiliness was cut by enough vinegar to balance everything out. The niku udon was also a surprise hit. The noodles were wide, flat, super slurpy, and the broth carried a deep umami flavor. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience here.

Half of their menu is vegan-friendly. Spoiler alert: they will open a permanent location in June/July! *Chicken Karaage*** This chicken karaage was TO DIE FOR -- the caramelized sugar lemon on the side took it to a whole new level. The boneless chicken was so tender and juicy with a thin deep-fried batter. The meat was extremely refreshing after squeezing the lemon and dipping in honey mustard sauce. * Handrolls - Salmon Yuzu, Tuna, Yellowtail** Y'all need to order their handrolls! The sashimi piece was thick and long enough to cover the vinegar rice. It would be a pain to pick which handroll I like more. They layered up the flavors of each piece with house sauces, shiso leaf, fried leek, avocado etc. Wish they would add a handroll set in the future. *Pork Cutlet Curry The curry was a blend of shredded meat, mashed potatoes, tomatoes and grapes (yes grapes!). The pork loin cutlets were crispy and not heavily breaded. The meat was a bit dry, yet it was cut in thin slices so it didn't bother me much. I found the multigrain rice even more enjoyable than white rice with its crunchiness. *Matcha Crème Brûlée** WE LOVED THIS. Matcha flavor is strong. The caramelized top and creamy matcha custard complemented really well. Trust me, their crème brûlée is the best dessert to finish off your meal. *Vegan Matcha Cheesecake This cheesecake was homey and light. Matcha flavor was tasteable but not very strong. The raspberry compote added a nice touch to it. I liked the crunchy biscuit layer on the bottom. *Yuzu White Peach Sparkling *Virgin Green Tea Mojito Their Japanese-inspired mocktails were great and not too sweet (very rare for mocktails). Starting off with the Agedashi Tofu: Three pieces of tofu in tsuyu sauce. Light and crispy, with a savory but not too salty broth. It came with fried enoki mushrooms. Some grated radish would've been a nice touch. Chicken Karaage: This was my personal favorite. The chicken pieces were tender and juicy, while crispy on the outside. The portion came with a decent amount of chicken which was shareable between three. Shoyu Ramen: Not a standout dish, but seeing as it's not specifically a ramen restaurant, it was standard! Not amazing but not bad. Pork Cutlet Curry: As someone who loves Japanese curry, this hit the spot! Warm flavorful curry with crispy tonkatsu. However, I think it would taste better served with fluffy white rice! Also I think it was served with a side of grapes which was seemed odd unless it's a new food trend I'm unaware of. And I never understood this either. We ordered 3 omakases to share amongst 2 people, and then a ton of a la carte dishes to share. Which were such a beautiful compliment to our omakase dishes. We got the "O" which was a 9 course meal with some cooked and raw options. From the a la carte menu, we ordered the chicken karaage, agedashi tofu, hamachi kama, clay pot rice with salmon and roe, sukiyaki noodles, 2 different rolls (tuna and salmon) and of course the uni taster (which were 3 different kinds of sushi from California and 2 from Hokkaido). The agedashi tofu was the worst amongst our group for a weird texture, definitely did not feel like tofu. The best dishes were the uni taster, chicken karraage, and hamachi kama all from the a la carte menu. And from the omakase, definitely the sushi platter (which were 10 pieces of sushi) and the soba noodles were so amazing! The sushi rice here were so delicious!
