I tried this place for the first time last week. I got the drunken noodles, which I had never had before as a Thai dish in general. In the whole "noddle box," I probably got like 5 pieces of beef, so that was a disappointment. However, I asked for Thai spicy and it was great, which hit the spot. The flavors and noodles were ok... However, one extremely off-putting ingredient in the box were the carrots; they were cooked were seasoned with anise. Every time that I took a bite and there was a carrot in the bite, the anise was the only thing I could taste. I'm not a chef of Thai food, so I called my friend who's originally from Thailand to inquire about the anise... She agreed that anise is used in some Thai dishes but it shouldn't have been in a drunken noodle box and it that it should have not been that strong either. I will probably try this place again, but will not be ordering any of my boxes with carrots. Yuck read more

I can only speak for the Thai Iced Tea Boba, service and atmosphere. I didn't get anything else. First of all, it's in a great location on King St. in Old Town Alexandria. If you've never been down there, it's worth a trip for the unique shops, food, waterfront and there's a free trolley from the Metro down to Market Square and back if you have a hard time getting around. The large Boba that I got came out to a little under $7 after tax which is pretty typical anywhere, so I was surprised at the price for a popular tourist area. The place is very small. There were a few small tables and I think a standing bar by the window. I honestly don't remember if there were chairs right there or if there was any outdoor seating. People seemed to be getting take-out anyways. The taste was fine. Tasted like Thai Iced Tea... not overwhelmingly good or special, but acceptable. The boba is the chewy kind that I like, and the service was quick. I also appreciated that they had a clean (single) restroom for patrons and a pretty "Instagrammable" wall for photos if that's your thing. :) Enjoy. read more

I was pleasantly surprised because the place doesn't look like much. The food is great though, and I've told all my coworkers in Old Town to go. It's a great price for the volume and quality of food you're getting. I've had all of the appetizers, the drunken noodle and the pad see ew. Food upset my stomach and was bland overall. But may have been an off night and may try again!

Ordered the chicken basil rice box, spring rolls and a bottle of Pepsi. The chicken basil rice box was 60% white rice, 30% green beans and bell pepper, 10% chicken and a fried egg on top. The green beans and bell peppers were crunchy, almost raw. The small amount of chicken I got was well seasoned. The dish had a little bit of sauce at the bottom of the bowl and that was delicious; but just not enough for the amount of rice. I'm sticking with the chicken basil rice at Thai Shirlington. The spring rolls were probably the best I've ever had. Perfectly crunchy. Not too oily or soggy. Just perfect. The bottle of Pepsi was $2.95 and I got home to find that it had expired exactly a month ago on May 7. So not a bad place overall. Definitely get the spring rolls and check the expiration dates on the drinks! read more

This place was an accidental find for me and my friends/colleagues. One of our goto Pho places decided to remain closed during a weekday and we had to find an alternative place to have lunch. We came across this place and decided to give it a shot. We been here twice and have ordered different items off the menu. Disappointing for the price which totaled $30 for two. I got the drunken noodles with chicken and my wife got spicy basil chicken. Both meals were fishy tasting, my wife's was salty maybe because of excess soy sauce. The ambiance is definitely lacking. At least the hot tea was good but we don't plan on returning. read more

We ordered Noodle Box via GrubHub tonight. It was our first time trying the restaurant. Our order was made and delivered quickly, roughly 20 minutes. We ordered the Wok Lomein, the Spicy Basil Chicken Rice box, gyoza, and wings. Both entrees were delicious and generous portions for the price. The apps were enjoyed as well. I went to the Noodle Box a few weeks ago for lunch. I had been there a number of times before. This time I get there, the lady at the counter is doing something else and I don't think even sees me. She's taking her time about it. So, I need to go to the bathroom. So, I do so thinking she'll be finished when I get back. When I do get back, there are two people in line and she is serving them. Now, I'm third in line. I am trying to talk with her about what is contained in the soup I want. I don't think she understands English too well or something. So, finally I achieve communication and order the soup I want. She scans my credit card. Next, I'm sitting there waiting and waiting for my soup. I see people getting ahead of me like order number 90 when mine is order number 89. I ask her, doesn't 89 come before 90? Then she says, the noodles take time to cook. Well, I'd been in there before and ordered the drunken noodle platter and got my food ALWAYS in 10 minutes. So, I sit down and I'm waiting I think, a half an hour. I finally get up and tell her that I want a refund. Then she says, Oh, no, here your food is. I don't know why I still didn't demand a refund and leave. So, I got my food and then sat down and just wolfed the soup down and was praying I wouldn't be late arriving back to work especially when I have to be at the counter at 1:00 p.m. Somehow, I did make it back here on time. I think they would have made me wait all afternoon if I didn't say I wanted a refund. It makes me feel like I shouldn't go there anymore. Not to mention it but I also almost walked out without my credit card because the lady didn't hand it to me. Instead she put it on the counter. Very disappointed with our experience here. Kung pao and soba noodles were super salty, starchy and tasted like they were laced with too much MSG. Fried rice was passable. Tom Yum soup was the best dish of the evening. Fried tofu was incredibly bland and the sauce tasted like straight corn syrup. Spring rolls were remarkably bare and without virtually any filling. I was hoping for so much more. And when your name is Noodle Box, at least do the noodles with a bit of integrity. read more

I tried Noodle Box for the first time and was very disappointed. I had the Drunken Noodles with vegetables. There was way too much sauce, salt, and overall unhealthy. I don't understand why restaurants believe that healthy cooking is not important. I will not go back. I usually go to Mai Thai in old town when I'm craving Thai food. I one day came across Noodle Box and the prices were hard to beat! It's around the same price as Mai Thai during their lunch prices. I like that they make the menu simple and you pay based on the protein preference. I don't know if this is something they have all year-round, but every time I've gone, I've gotten a free Thai ice tea with my purchase! Great compliment to my meal. I've only gotten the beef drunken noodles as that's one of my favorite dishes, but it isn't as spicy as I like it to be. Next time I will definitely ask them to add more of a kick. I would definitely recommend this place whether you want something quick to eat or you want to sit for a while with friends read more

Saw the glowing reviews and decided to give Noodle Box a shot. I got the Spicy Basil Fried Rice with chicken. When it arrived I was super skeptical. The rice was steamed, not fried. Chicken was minced, not chunks. It also had a whole fried egg on top. But once I accepted the dish as a new food adventure, I was blown away! Awesomely tasty! Super fresh. Can't speak for the other dishes yet, but will definitely try them when I get a chance. Highly recommended as a semi fast food alternative. Service is fast and friendly, but food is worthy of a "sit down" restaurant. read more

Good, cheap, fast. I came here with nine friends and was a bit worried due to the space which seemed small from the outside as well as it being Asian food which I'm not too experienced with. But with well managed spacing and a casual menu, any worries that I may have had faded away. The food for all nine of us came within ten minutes and was plentiful and good. About seventy-five percent of things on the menu have nuts on it so if you are allergic you should be aware. Overall an awesome experience!
