Came here with some friends after a morning walk. Wanted to try some sour pickle fish soup thst I had seen in NY but didn't have a chance to try. The place looks tiny on the outside but has a decent amount of seating. It's kind of your hole in the wall greasy spoon type of place but the people are nice and the portions are good! We had XLB, a sour pickled fish soup and a rice cake with pork and sour pickles. Okay, sour pickles sound gross but really, it's kinda sweet and the hubs loves it but never knows how to order it when we go out. XLB 5/5: Okay, this could be my go to XLB spot but it's not as close as I like. The dumplings were juicy and perfect pop in your mouth size. Can't beat the 7.95 price for 8! Fish soup with chopped pickled greens casserole 5/5: A large portion of soup and lots of pieces of fish. The tanginess of the pickled mustard is a surprisingly good kick. Nice and warm on a cold day. Rice noodles with pork and pickled greens 4/5: Not my favorite dish but done well with the rice noodles nice and chewy. Plenty of sliced pork and good amount of the picked greens. Overall a great hidden spot to get some good home cooking. The reason it's 4 stars is cuz of the greasy hole in the wall feel but hey, if it keeps the prices down then I'm fine with in. I plan to come back with the hubs to check out more of their menu!

LOVED IT! This is that little hole in the wall place you bring the family from out of town too. Every dish we ordered did not disappoint! The Honey Walnut Prawns, I could have eat 4 pounds of it! The chow mein, was what I have been missing. The quality of chow mein has dropped off in the bay area. They do close between 3-5pm and we walked in at 2:50pm. The waiter sat us said "order fast kitchen closing". He could have easily had us come back later. The food came out fast and just amazing. SO GOOD! We will return and soon! A must try! Hope this review convinces you.

I tried food at catered event. ORDER (not paid by me but I tried this food) -Salt Pepper Filet -Vegetable Egg Rolls -Sesame Ball -Fortune Cookies -Pot Stickers -Vegetable Bun STARS (stand out qualities) -All dishes above (except for vegetable bun) were solid good and tasty -Catering came with utensils and fortune cookie STAIRS (areas of growth) -Vegetable buns seemed a little dry; I think it was only one vegetable I will want to try the restaurant someday!

Have been coming here regularly and it never disappoints Our go to dishes: Hunan tofu - soft tofu in savory black bean sauce Fresh chili fish - tender fish filet in not too spicy fresh chili sauce Other highlights: Noodles of any kind - these are thick and taste handmade. Soup broths are not great and I like to doctor it up with white pepper and chili sauce, but noodles are bomb.

Customer service was amazing! I felt so welcomed here and not uncomfortable. We randomly stumbled upon this place after getting manicures down the street. Food was really great too! This place is a simple old school chinese place that focuses on its food. It was very clean. Out server was an older gentleman and he was very helpful and nice. He checked up on us throughout our meal multiple times to ask if everything was OK. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, which was outstanding. And also another type of soup and some spicy chicken wings. Everything was really good. And I look forward to returning once again

There was a…read moreshort line when I arrived, but the staff turned tables quickly and kept everything moving efficiently, so the wait wasn't long at all. I ordered their #1 recommendation, the Homura Aburasoba, and immediately scarfed it down. Popping the perfectly runny egg yolk into the noodles was incredibly satisfying, and every bite was packed with rich, savory umami. The noodles themselves were thick, chewy, and had a great bite that held up well to the sauce. I also tried the Wagyu dish, but it arrived more cooked than it appeared in the photos, which made the texture and overall experience a bit underwhelming. The sauce also leaned on the creamier side, which isn't my favorite pairing with Wagyu, so I'd probably skip that one next time. That said, the Homura Aburasoba alone is worth coming back for and easily earns Kajiken a well-deserved 5/5.

We had just arrived so we said no. My parner said that while i was in the bathroom he too was asked about 4 times if he was ready to order. Overall the food was okay, interesting noodle dish that I would try again, but the service was not it... We felt very rushed and pushed to place our orders, which didn't make sense as the restaurant wasnt very busy at that time. And they had plenty of staff just standing around the back so it wasn't like they were short staffed trying to stay afloat on orders or something. I also don't recommend ordering your appetizer and main dish together, as they all came at the same time and made it hard to eat our main dish as it gets cold quick which it also says on the instructions on how to eat these noodles. After all the rushing to place our orders we never even received one of our appetizers yet we were being charged for it.... -Long story short, food was okay -Dont order your apps and meal together unless you want it all at the same time - Service needs work... stop rushing your customers...

Noodles were chewier than most beef noodle soups I've had and the beef pieces were very tender and soft. The soup wasn't too spicy by itself and had alot of depth and flavor. -Pro-tip: There is a little self-serve station near the kitchen where you can get add'l condiments like cilantro, green onion, chili, and pickled daikon. SCORE. Add in the cilantro/green onion for a flavor explosion. -Ordered one of the combo noodles + 2 sides. For my sides, I got a blanched bok choy and a fried gyoza. The bok choy was needed to help cut the spiciness of the soup and to add veggies b/c without it, you'd just be having carbs, beef, and soup. Gyoza was a win too. Service: FAST and friendly, just how I like my non-fine dining restaurant experiences. You scan a QR code at the table and then choose an english/chinese option. If you have questions, you can ask the staff, but there isn't a TON of options to choose from, so make it easy on yourself and order a noodle soup. Ambiance: Ample seating at 1:30pm on a Sunday. Didn't have to wait, which was a big plus as all the other restaurants in San Mateo over near 3rd/4th and B street were packed. Overall: Highly recommend and would come again. This might be my favorite niu rou mian spot!

Boy was I happy we ended up coming here for dinner! Small things to note, the restaurant isn't the biggest so smaller parties are probably best. They were able to accommodate a table of 8 during lunch but probably if you came right when they open. After that, you would definitely need to wait. For dinner, we ordered the Rin-Tei Plate ($28), Keema curry ($23), and the Creamy Soy Milk Pho with Poached Yuzu Chicken and greens ($25). The Rin-Tei Plate consists of Papaya Salad, Shrimp Fresh Spring roll, Calamari, and Thai fried chicken. We both enjoyed the sampler plate, specifically the Thai fried chicken and calamari. The papaya salad and spring roll were good and fresh when paired with the fried items. But the flavors and perfect crispiness of the fried chicken and the calamari were 10/10. The Keema Curry was beautifully plated. The flavors were distinct and was not spicy (so a safe choice especially if you cannot handle spice or for the kiddos). The minced meat mixed in the curry topped with an egg was delicious. However, our favorite was the Soy Milk Pho. I've never had soy milk pho before and now I cannot stop thinking about it. When you think milk, you might think super heavy and creamy. But this was quite the opposite, in the BEST WAY. The flavors of the ginger and yuzu with the broth was AMAZING. If you had to choose just 1 item, this would be the one. My friend and I both left feeling satisfied and loved how it did not feel heavy leaving (aka not a ton of oils and msg). I had since a great experience I brought my family back for lunch a few weeks later to celebrate my grandma's birthday. For lunch, I was able to try the green curry dish and the cold sesame tantan pho (in addition to other dishes). Both were equally yummy. You honestly cannot go wrong with anything from here! I will definitely be back again to share the love of this place to others!

I'd probably give them a 3.5/5 but rounding up! I ordered (and was most excited to try) their popular Soy Milk Pho, and got the mentai version. The broth was smooth and sweet which was nice, but IMO after a few bites in it started to taste more one-dimensional and plain. It lacked that level of depth that I typically get from pho. I tried the green curry too and felt the same way about that dish. I was also disappointed because they ended up not having their poached chicken appetizer in stock. :( Service was great on the other hand - I think only con was that our meals all came out at different, staggering times so we kept having to wait for one dish after the other.

It was so much food that we didn't take part in their extra noodles after finishing the bowl. My favorite had to be the braised beef stew as the soup was hearty, the beef was tender, and the noodles were very firm and bouncy. The beef pancake rolls were a very close second, though there wasn't anything different that they added compared to other places. The rest of the dishes were pretty good though I would definitely pass on the wonton soup next time as the soup just tasted like dried seaweed (something I don't like).
