I didn't realize the restaurant was as large as it was inside. There's a lot of seating, but the weird thing is the chairs are wide, so not everyone can push themselves under the table without hitting the table leg. If you know, you know. We ordered the beef roll, which could have used more meat and more hoisin. I only got one small hit of hoisin, and it was in my second to last bite. We also ordered the beef noodle soup with hand made noodles. Really all the noodles are hand made, but you can choose different sizes and shapes. The noodles weren't bad the texture was good. The soup was lightly flavored-really light. It was not a hearty soup-and it came with slices of tomato on top. ?? The other thing we tried was the XLB. It took a little extra time-which is standard. The outside skin was on the thicker side, and the meat inside was on the chunkier/harder side. The flavor came from the meat, not from the juices. If this was your first experience with these foods, I think you'd like it. But if you've gone around SGV and tried other places, I think you'd agree with the 3 stars. read more

What a beautiful noodle house inside of a plaza mall in Old Town Monrovia! I made the visit to this place last night because I was intrigued by what this place had to offer based on what I've seen on Yelp. Upon entry, the decor of the place is pretty swanky for a simple noodle house. The furniture is modern and they were playing classical music. I was in summer attire and I almost felt like I was underdressed for the place. Once we were seated, we were greeted immediately by the server and took our order once ready. We ordered a cucumber salad, fried chicken wings, beef rolls, stir-fry noodles, and a Taiwanese soup. The cucumber salad had a good taste, but we were just surprised at how they made it. It wasn't chopped normally; it almost felt like someone had just tried to smash it down, but didn't quite make it -- nevertheless, the flavor of it saved the day. My personal favorite was the spicy beef rolls. Boy, oh boy were they delicious. I've had rolls similar to this before at another restaurant in Alhambra, and these rolls were just as good as those! All the other dishes were good, especially considering their noodles are made fresh in-house, but what's going to get me to come back here are those rolls. I gotta say I was a little skeptical about the authenticity of the food but as we walked into the store, I was greeted with the sight of the chef hand making the noodles in the kitchen. Definitely legit! Although known for their noodle dishes, I ordered a beef roll because I didn't think I could finish the meal. I did get to try some of the beef noodle soup and it had a good flavor. The noodles were pretty chewy too. The roll itself was good but I think they put a little too much green onion and cilantro. I ended up picking out most of it...that's just a personal preference though. We also got a cucumber salad to share. The cucumbers were nice and crisp and I thought tasted better when dipped in soy sauce and chili oil. Would come back again. Headed here for some dinner take out and my brother seemed to love it so I gave it a try. I placed my order through the phone and the food was ready right when I got there. Everything was individually packaged which was great considering the pandemic as well as it being soup noodles for take out. The utensils, sauces (chilli oil/soy sauce/soy vinegar), and the noodles separate from the soup. This prevented the noodles from getting soggy by the time I got home. I decided to get their signature beef noodle soup, as well as their lamb noodle soup. They had multiple options for different kinds of noodles but I went with knife cut and thin flat. Being a noodle shop, they definitely had my stamp of approval. SO GOOD! Their noodles were chewy, perfect texture, and better yet, they were all handmade. The soup was amazing too; not too salty and really really flavourful. The soup did not taste too heavy, but it felt like a clean yet amazing seasoned soup. For the meat, I was really worried it would be tough, but it was completely opposite! It was tender, well flavoured, and a perfect balance. For the beef pancakes, I must say they're one of the better beef pancakes I have had. It was filled with flavourful meat, the pancake overall was not dry at all unlike some are. It was crunchy in the outside, flavourful with lots of cilantro, scallions, the sauce, and beef. TLDR: I will definitely head back here. It's my new favourite noodle spot. This is a great noodle house. We had Tan Tan Noodles and Veggie Cold Noodles. The noodles are definitely hand-pulled, and they hold up well even after a 30-minute ride. What I like about this Tan Tan is that the broth itself is not spicy. The chili oil comes in a separate container, so you can make the broth as spicy (or not) as you want. This place is not bad for chinese food in Monrovia. I had the dan dan noodles and it was a little different than typical dan dan mien. This one has was served with soup that had Szechuan flavor. The noodles were good. I chose the handmade "triangle" noodles and it was soft and chewy but next time I am going to get the knife cut noodles which are more thicker and more chewy according to the menu. The soup was good but if you do not like spicy or herby, then you are better off ordering something else. I like the spinach and the noodles. It lives up to the noodle st name. You can watch the chefs make the noodles through the window. I had a piece of the beef from beef noodle soup and it was good. There was no fat whatsoever on the beef. Texture of the noodles was great. Stir fried small noodles w chicken- Portion kinda skimpy, but had good flavor. Beef roll- just ok. Juicy pork dumplings- Good texture on the skin and full of yummy liquid. Cold cucumber salad- Great flavor and tons of garlic. Overall, good quality food in a nicely renovated restaurant. We tried newly opened Noodle St in Monrovia for lunch take-out. I found it to be decent. Not bad but also not great. Service was quick despite it being quite busy. I ordered the beef roll pancake ($6.75) You get 2 good sized beef rolls cut into 2. This is a very filling order as they pack in the meat with scallions and cilantro. I opted for no cilantro. Unfortunately they didnt give any hoisin sauce. It coulda used it. Maybe I shouldnt compare it to Mama Lu's version but I just cant help it cause those are the standard. This order was ok and I may order it again. I also got the pan fried dumplings ($4.25). The dumplings were quite small. Like mini gyoza. The filling was of a good quantity but it was still a little pink. Too pink for me. I dont think I would order this again. For that price, they need to either make the dumplings bigger or up the quantity from 4 to 6, at least. Theyre too small. Really a waste of the container they come in at that size. We wanted a quick, not so heavy dinner after watching our afternoon movie at Studio Movie Grill, so we walked the short distance north to Noodle St. There was a minor wait for a Saturday evening meal. I really wanted Japanese noodles, so I was delighted they had some Japanese noodle options on the menu and it was good too! I was worried that I should've ordered their specialty - like a beef noodle soup or something - but their Japanese pork noodle ($9.75) hit the spot! The broth wasn't too creamy or heavy or salty. Yes! The portion was just right too. We also ordered the spicy beef roll ($6.75), which wasn't super spicy and added just the right kick to the roll. I love how they don't use disposable plastic at all. We got stainless steel cups for our carafe of water. We had wooden chopsticks engraved with Noodle St along with a wooden spoon for the noodle soup. They have stamp cards for each visit. Get 5 stamps for a chance to spin their wheel. A couple months ago, my family and I were walking from the Monrovia Library up Myrtle, and we were really hoping to try the noodle soups and dumplings for lunch. The restaurant is located inside the same plaza as Vons. Unfortunately when I walked into Noodle St, the hostess/waitress was already taking a phone order, so I waited until she was done. The restaurant was only taking to-go orders and not serving dine in during the pandemic. 10 minutes later, she's still on the phone and my kids are waiting outside hungry. Another 5 minutes pass and she gets off the phone and then tells me that unfortunately she can't take any orders right now because their ordering system is down. So you can't take an order? Nope. Then why did she have me standing there waiting for her to get off the phone to finish taking an order if she wasn't going to take my order?! As a restaurant, I think it would be wise that if your ordering system is down, you get a pen and paper, you take down the order and walk it over to the kitchen. Take cash for payment. How can you afford to lose customer sales just because your ordering system is down? Really lousy customer service. read more

Noodle St is finally open (since last week). Found between Mooyah Burgers and Vons. Took over the old Starlight Express Chinese Food location. Noodle St has another location in Fullerton, in which my husband and I also had ate there back in February. My husband and I decided to take advantage of their soft opening special of 30% discount (I only knew this place was open when I drove by it a few hours before we came by here, last Thursday around 7:15 pm), which also includes to go orders. When we arrived, it was pretty busy (who wouldn't want to save 30% on a meal?). So we decided to make a to go order and just eat outside (we sat at one of the tables by the Baskin Robbins around the corner). After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: (What is unique about this restaurant is that patrons can choose their own thickness of the noodle they eat and that the noodles are made fresh) Dan Dan Noodle , $9.25 prior to tax With Triangle Noodle Thickness- Dan Dan noodles is a spicy sichuan dish, which I like to order often at noodle houses because I like the flavors of the sauce. This dish was not spicy (which is good for the non spicy eater) but had a nice meaty flavor added to the noodles. The noodles had a nice chew. The portion size is perfect to share for 2. Shrimp Stir Fry Noodle, $10.75 prior to tax, With Knife Cut Noodle Thickness- I have ordered this dish at the Fullerton location and thought the consistency in taste and flavor is the same. The large pieces of shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sauce. Also loved the chew of the noodles, especially with the knife cut (the thickest). Great portion to share with 2. Veggie Cold Noodle, $8.75 prior to tax, With Triangle Noodle Thickness- A nice change from the other 2 dishes, cold noodles with raw vegetables (shredded carrots, cucumbers, mushrooms and parley) for a nice refreshing meal. The sauce on the side was a nice added savoriness to the dish. Also a good dish to share for 2. Complementary Soup ---------------------------- (Total= $31.48 after tax, prior to 30% discount & $22.85 after tax and discount) We were told that wait time would take 20- 25 minutes but our to go order was ready within 11 minutes. We sat outside and a server had walked outside to inform my husband that his order was ready, which we did appreciate. Food was served hot and had chopsticks, spoons and forks with napkins provided in our to go bag. But since we decided that we were going to eat our food outside instead of driving back home to eat it (my husband was hungry, lol), we decided to ask for an extra bowl from the restaurant. When my husband went inside to ask, 1 employee said she will get it. And then later she said this other employee will get it for him. But that employee was walking from the kitchen with food to put together to go orders. So my husband was a little annoyed that it took him a while for someone to bring him a container. Not really a big deal to me but my husband wanted me to mention this in my review. I am glad that Noodle St has opened up in Monrovia since there aren't too many good authentic Asian restaurants in this particular area of San Gabriel Valley. I've ordered dinner from here twice already, and I've had positive experiences so far. First of all, I love how hand-pulled noodles are an option here. I don't claim to be an expert on the availability of hand-pulled noodles in restaurants, but when I used to live in San Diego, there were only 1 or 2 places that offered this, and it required up to a 2-hour wait to dine there. I, like many, refuse to wait and starve for 2 whole hours for an order of noodles when I could have dinner somewhere, pay, and head back to my car while the same people who waited in line before I had dinner are still in line for their precious hand-pulled noodles. Long story short, I am thrilled that having hand-pulled noodles does not take nearly as long as I had previously believed. Secondly, staff is very courteous and thorough. Both front and back of house work very hard to make sure orders are accurate, ready promptly as predicted, and prepared well for customers. I like how the menu offers so many different types of noodles of different cultures. It's like a one-stop-shop for many unique noodle cravings. I would recommend the scallion pancake, korean jajiang, and dan dan noodles. Portions are fairly filling, so there's no need to order two separate items unless you want some variety and leftovers for another day. Parking: Plenty. They share the plaza with other businesses, and I have never seen it completely full since I have been here. Let me say first off, Worst Lamb Noodle soup EVER!!! BLANDEST BROTH I EVER HAD. However.... This place is worth a visit for some chinese style handmade noodles. Why the 3 stars? Came here 4 separate times experiencing positive and negative experiences. 1st visit with my wife I had the spicy beef noodle soup. Excellent, quick, flavorful and great noodles. the broth was great and the chunks of beef was tender. The Beef rolls were also great. One of the better ones i've had. The Soup Dumplings tasted great and they are huge. Except some of the dumplings were ripped losing the soup that supposed to be inside. I had to wave down the waiters twice to get ginger, vinegar and sauce plate for the dippings sauce 2nd visit i was told the to go orders were not going to be serviced. They had 8 ppl waiting to be seated, so I guess when it gets a little busy, they wont take to go orders. 3rd visit i ordered the kimchi fried rice to go and beef rolls again along with chicken wings. The wings were a tad disappointing in flavor. It seemed over fried. prolly wouldnt order it again. Kimchi fried rice was good and beef rolls again was great. 4 th visit was the worse. Ordered the Lamb noodle soup. That was by the most bland broth i have ever had that i paid for. My friend had warned me there lamb broth had sucked, but i had to try for myself. It had no flavor whatsoever. Tasted like semi-salted water. Cindys noodleland in Arcadia is a great example of how lamb soup noodle should be like. Skip this dish. I chose "standard" round which are listed as chewy. I'd call them quite soft -- the size of thin spaghetti. I should have gone all the way to knife cut! Scallion pancakes are thin, flaky, and crispy. Food is always great here! I've been here many times now and have not been disappointed so far! When anyone asks for recommendations in SGV, this place is usually one the list. Noodle St makes their own hand pulled noodles, yum! My top recommendation includes the Signature Beef Noodle - $10 - broth is very flavorful and the noodles never disappoint. When ordering you can ask the waiter for some recommendations for each of the soup types. Spicy Beef Noodle - $10.25 - another great alternative and will not fail you. I personally haven't tried the other soups, but for a place like Noodle St, I'd stick with what their specialization. Beef Roll Pancake (4 pieces) - $7.25 - amazing! One of the best in my opinion! I've been to other place and the beef rolls are really greasy, but not this place! The only difference between the spicy and non-spicy rolls is sriracha so I find it odd that it is even an option (just ask for sriracha?). Juicy XLB Buns - $8 - the rave on XLB has always been at Din Tai Fung, but I highly recommend giving Noodle St a try. I found them very juicy and delicious too. Cha Shu Pork Fried Rice - $10 - also a great dish and has nice flavors! The service is great and the price is fair for the portions. There is a Noodle St in Arcadia Mall which looks to be under the same owner. The prices there are slightly higher, probably due to higher rent. However, I am not quite sure why they'd have two of the same restaurants so closely together. When visiting Old Town Pasadena, looks like a new store will be open there as well. read more

An excellent addition to the dining scene in Monrovia. Monrovia has a plethora of gastro pubs and a few sushi restaurants so this Chinese noodle place is a very welcome addition. They hand make the noodles here. You can witness it from the large window into their kitchen as they whip the noodle dough around. There are 4 styles of noodles to choose from. We ordered the Japanese pork noodle, cha Shu pancake and stir fry noodles. All dishes were quite good. Service is also very good here. This place is bomb and its right next to pavilions. They have an outdoor patio set up that is shared with blaze and mooyah. I enjoyed the Korean BBQ rice, which is perfect. Rice is moist and the meat flavorful. My mom and brother got the dumplings and noodles and they had no leftovers. That says a lot because my mom usually has something leftover.
