i love coming here for their pad see ew's--one of my absolute favorites. The spice does creep up though, so be careful if you're getting anything above a level 2! One of my absolute favorite spots in the Burgh. We get takeout from here often, but we finally ate in for once. And we took friends who had never been, they loved it, of course! We started with the spring rolls, crab Rangoon and of course the pulled pork steamed buns which are always the star of the show! Our apps came out in under 5 minutes! Two people ordered the pad see yew, one with chicken and one with shrimp. My husband and I think they have the best pad see yew in the city! And I had the street noodle #1 along with another person. I did think the chicken was just a tad dry but still very tasty. We all had a spice level 2...and one person in our group was really sweating but the rest of us thought it was perfect. You also can't beat the byob either, and they didn't even charge for everything we opened. The service was just enough, I like that they don't bother you much. One word, disappointing. To say this is one of Pittsburgh's most popular restaurant both on Google and on Yelp I had some pretty high expectations coming in. When you first walk in, it is HOT in the restaurant. The AC did not seem to be working and it just felt sticky and gross. Keep in mind this is a pretty warm/hot summer day at the end of July. When my partner and I received drinks, we were given lukewarm water with no ice. I don't expect to be given ice, but in this instance because of the uncomfortable restaurant temperature I had to ask for ice, and afterwards I noticed other patrons doing the exact same thing. Food wise, we decided to go with the the Street Noodle #1 and the Pad Thai on a medium spice level. I saw that many people recommended Street Noodle #1 and honestly it was very disappointing. The best way I can describe it is a sweet pad thai tamarind sauce. I do want to clarify that yes, I do like sweet Thai noodle dishes such as Pad See Ew but the flavors in this dish did not work for me. The only part of the dish (and of the whole experience) that I was slightly impressed with was the Thai Fried Chicken. The Thai Fried Chicken was cooked well and has a good crunch. The Pad Thai was okay, but oddly did not really taste like the traditional pad Thai flavor? Nothing about the dish wowed me and I do want to say that if you are getting a medium level spice, that it does punch a bit of heat. Quite honestly I am shocked that this is considered one of Pittsburgh's best spots. If you are expecting authentic Thai food, this is NOT the place as everything is pretty gentrified. Even as gentrified as it is, the food is not good. Also as one of the only two Asians in the entire restaurant, we felt so uncomfortable as we were receiving stares from the other restaurant patrons throughout the dinner. Note: CASH ONLY. Huge fan of Noodlehead. The food is amazing and cheap. Over the last 5 years, I don't think they've raised their prices at all. I really cannot put into words how much I enjoy coming here. It's the perfect place to meet up with people when you're looking for a nice environment but nothing too expensive. The service is pretty quick for such a busy place as well. One of the few places I leave every time thinking, they do such a great job running this place. I take every person who visits me in Pittsburgh here because I find it to be such a staple restaurant. The food I must praise in detail. It's actually quite authentic Thai flavors but fits everyone's taste buds, whether you have a more Asian or Western preference. They've seem to find the perfect combo. I love the Thai fried chicken here. Sometimes we get it as the appetizer and the entree [Street Moodle 1]. The $10 soups are pretty filling and ridiculously cheap. Any of their noodles are good too. I can't believe I've lived most of my life in Pittsburgh and have only now tried Noodlehead. This is such a clutch spot for Thai food/noodles. The service was great, everyone who worked there was nice and accommodating. We went on a Saturday afternoon, which I assume is less busy than night time so definitely a great time to go. We got seated immediately. We got sat at a 'high top' and normally I don't like those but the seats had the perfect place to rest your feet. The only thing I didn't like was there was really no convenient place to put your purse. We ordered spring rolls, curry puffs, green curry, street noodle 1 & 2. These weren't the best noodles I've ever had in my life but all dishes were delicious! The amount of spice was perfect at a 2 but they also brought out their spice mixture and sriracha if we needed it spicier. I loved that spice mixture, it tasted so good and was definitely spicy! My favorite part of the meal, however and very unexpected, was the lemongrass and honey iced tea. You get 1 free refill of it and it's tasty and refreshing. I am craving it now as I type this! This was one of the first restaurants that I tried when I moved to Pittsburgh and I was so impressed!! I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, and it was definitely one of the best pad thais i've ever had. I also ordered the Street Noodle #1, the Crab Rangoons, and the Chiang Mai Curry. All of the dishes were super flavorful and were also super generous in portion size. The service was also really great and fast, despite the restaurant being super crowded. The ambiance of the restaurant was also super aesthetically pleasing yet comfortable, which made the meal so much more enjoyable. I highly recommend trying this place!! read more

Noodlehead in a hidden gem in Pittsburgh! It's small with a hip vibe. The tables are small, I wouldn't recommend this place for a large party. The service was wonderful. The menu is small, but it's packed full of flavor. I could drink gallons of the lemongrass honey ice tea. It has the perfect amount of sweetness and the lemongrass is faint, but it the perfect pop. The spring rolls were crispy. I ordered the street noodles #1 (no bean sprouts). Everything about this dish was amazing. I loved the crispy chicken. Found out this place on local FB "Eats" page as a lot liked it. We went and had the Veggie Spring Rolls and were not crispy and not flavorful. Next we had the "Street Noodles 2" with Tempura Shrimp. 1st the dish had no flavor or heat but I eat Thai 10+ hot and do not feel it. The tempura shrimp was mostly all tempura. Worst part was the shrimp were like those tiny "Baby Dried Shrimp" you get in cellophane packages and not a larger fresh/frozen shrimp and completely in-edible. SUCH a standout memorable meal! We came here for dinner, it's BYOB so we brought a few beers with us. They only charge $0.75/person (recycling fee), no biggie. There was a bit of a wait but probably just about 15 minutes or so. Cash only! They have an ATM inside, I believe. The chive pancakes were misnamed but delicious. They really should've been called chive French toast sticks, or even better, chive sticks. They were crispy on the outside and mushy in a good way on the inside. The sauce with them was very tangy, sweet, and overall bangarang. Their shape made them fun to eat. The street noodles #2 were kind of #2. Just kidding! The tempura shrimp with the sauce on the noodles was kind of awkward. The sauce was very good: sweet, lemony, and spicy. Again though, the whole tempura shrimp situation made eating it difficult because they are not easily combined, particularly due to their shells but also flavor. Maybe wouldn't order that again. The pad se'ew clapped five ways to Sunday. The noodles were fucking perfection. The tofu were perfect pillows. Everything a woman could want in a pad se'ew and more tbh. One of the better Thai places in Pittsburgh, but be prepared for a long wait. No online waitlist or reservations as far as I'm aware. Spice level: adjustable for all dishes from 1 to 5, but there is a "secret" level 6 that you can request. If you live for the kick, you can also ask for more of the spicy sauce on the side. Pad thai (5/5): on the sweeter side, but still delicious. The noodles aren't overcooked so they still have that slight chew. Recommend asking for extra limes on the side. Pad see ew (4.5/5): Ran a bit salty, but the noodle texture and the portion of protein/veggies was nice as well. Loveboat (4/5): Thin noodles in a slightly sweet, acidic, and roasty broth. Wish there was a bit more cilantro or basil to freshen it up a bit. If it had lemongrass added, would be 5/5. I don't have a huge appetite, but the portion size is on the smaller side. Sukothai (4.5): Can't really place the equivalent Thai dish for this. The peanut flavor is not very strong and the peanuts settle at the bottom, so you don't really taste it much initially. Nice amount of meatballs. Green curry linguine (3/5): Not bad, but you can barely tell it's green curry. The sauce is indescript and doesn't have that distinct coconut flavor. Wish that instead of broccoli, there were bamboo shoots and more thai basil. Best part of this dish was the eggplant, which was stewed perfectly. read more

We had: - See Yew $12.50 - Street Noodle #1 $12.50 with rice noodle & fried chicken - 4pc shrimp and pork dumplings $6 We got both noodle at medium heat - will try it at a higher level of spice next time since we like spicy. The Street noodle was tangy and sweet, but it felt a bit too saucey and sweet for me. The dumplings tasted flavorful and homemade. And even with a drink the meal came out to $36 for two + tip, and we left a lot fuller than we thought - when we were sitting we felt like we could keep eating but by the time we walked to grab Millie's ice cream next door we decided to take a pint home because we felt too full. read more

I actually like the new menu for the most part. There are some interesting options on there you probably can't find anywhere else. I like the apparently controversial new love boat with pork rinds, though I admit I can't remember the prior version. In general I enjoy the food here, though it runs a bit sweet for my taste, and it's now hard to receive anything that's actually spicy. There was a time when ordering a two at Noodlehead was a risky decision, but in my recent visits, a three barely contains any discernible spice, and a four (out of five) hardly qualifies as medium. The space is nice, though the stools aren't super comfortable, and if you sit at the window bar there's nowhere to hang your purse.
