Just had the most disappointing experience at Okemos Noodles. I picked up my order- Pesto Cavatappi- only to get home and find it has literally, a sprinkle of pesto. Tastes more like butter than anything, and if I wanted butter noodles I would just make it myself. Anyway, I'm not sure why any sane person would find this to be an appropriate amount of pesto to taste. I'm giving them 2 stars because while they typically have average if not lackluster service, it's not usually this bad.

Noodles are okay.. I thought it would be something I would look forward to eat when I visit the area but no... Nevertheless, not bad choice if you are really hungry but if not there are other options...

Pad Thai minus bean sprouts added shrimp.

Amazing service. My friend didn't like a meal and the chef gave her a new one for free! Clean and nice.

A big group needs space and a huge menu so everyone can actually find something they want to eat. The college aged kids working the tables were running around trying their absolute best to keep up with the drink orders and the food. It took forever for anything to arrive, but honestly that part is understandable with a crowd our size. Things started getting weird when the entrees showed up before the appetizers and salads. I dug into my stuffed Chicago style pizza and noticed it was barely warm. Even stranger, it was sitting in this unbaked pan on top of some weird tray keeping it off the bottom. There was zero crusting on the pan at all, which makes no sense for a pizza that is supposed to bake for thirty minutes. It was just a lukewarm disappointment. Then the night took a massive turn for the worse. Halfway through the meal, the guy sitting right next to me jumped up because he saw a bug. He lifted his pizza up, and a live cockroach came running out across the table. One of our friends had to trap the thing under a glass. The whole table went into a frenzy, so we called for the manager. When he finally showed up, he was completely nonchalant about the fact that a live roach just crawled out of our dinner. He gave us a casual apology and walked away. After waiting around for another half hour, we spotted him just casually wiping down other tables. We had to confront him again to see what was being done, and he just brushed us off by saying the waitress would handle it. He comped a few minor things, but left almost the entire bill full. We had to push him a third time because half the table lost their appetite and refused to pay for food that came out of a roach infested kitchen. He threw a small discount at us, but still forced everyone to pay for their tabs. While we were trying to settle up and just get out of there, the staff started opening up to us. Our waitress told us she was quitting in a week because this kind of stuff happens constantly, and she was tired of dealing with the fallout. Another waiter mentioned it was only his third day on the job and he was already planning to jump ship. To top it all off, we walked past the kitchen and office area on our way out and the sheer lack of cleanliness explained everything. Unless you want a side of live pests with your lukewarm pizza, absolutely skip this place.

There were only four of us, but we ended up at what felt like a six-person booth/table setup. It made it a little tricky to talk with everyone, but we survived. Now listen... the bread. Oh, the bread. I have been dreaming about this bread ever since I had it. And I mean that literally, I was dreaming about the bread while I was actively eating it. It was THAT good. My pasta was delicious and had a nice kick to it. I knew it was supposed to be spicy, but even after reading the reviews I was still a little surprised by the heat. Thankfully, it was the good kind of spicy where you keep going back for another bite. Overall, a really nice spot with some seriously memorable bread.

Unfortunately, our dining experience was disappointing. We weren't allowed to order from the regular happy hour menu and were limited to a much more expensive fixed menu. The calamari was good, but the featured Jazzleberry cocktail tasted weak and watered down. The prosciutto and melon appetizer was served with a large piece of half-burnt toast, the melon was hard and underripe, and the prosciutto was dry and sliced so thick it was difficult to cut or eat. I asked only for a replacement piece of toast, but our server brought an entire basket of focaccia instead. Since we hadn't ordered it, we assumed it was a courtesy replacement. We were surprised to find an $8 charge for the bread on our bill. This was at least our third disappointing experience. Toscana has a lovely atmosphere and wonderful live music, but the food quality and service have consistently fallen short. I truly hope they can improve because I'd like to enjoy dining here as much as I enjoy the entertainment.

Our server, Will, suggested a wine that turned out to be spot-on: a dry, subtle Chardonnay, nicely chilled and presented in a granite cooler on our table like it was royalty. Loved that detail. The entrées did not disappoint. My husband had the salmon, delicately enhanced with salmoriglio, served with wild rice atop a light bed of bok choy and baby carrots--simple, fresh, and perfectly balanced. I had the crab-stuffed shrimp, which was absolutely fabulous, also with wild rice, baby carrots, and that sneaky little layer of bok choy you barely notice but totally appreciate. It was a busy Saturday night, so definitely make reservations--it's worth it. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance: lively but not loud, elegant without being stuffy--the kind of place that makes you feel justified putting on heels and lipstick just because. And a special shoutout to GM Brad, who was absolutely wonderful, along with the rest of the staff. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming--service like that makes a great meal unforgettable. Sapporo is not about to break that trend! Right off the bat, the vibe is chill and the staff is welcoming. I go for the Takoyaki and Hakata modern. The Takoyaki is absolutely delicious. Wonderful balance of texture and salt vs sweet. Easily top 3 I've had. On to the ramen....which I was ready to be super hyper critical on. Hakata modern features Tonkotsu pork broth, chashu, ajitsuke tamago, menma, beansprouts, garlic oil, umami dama, and scallions. Final verdict? The broth is rich and flavorful, and there is plenty of it! The ramen egg is a tab bit overdone and the chasu can be a little more tender but who am I kidding? It's pretty damn good! The best part of all? Sapporo sits at a very reasonable price point while not compromising on high quality. All in all, very much worth a trip while in the area. Sapporo slides right into my go to lineup :-)
