We got to the restaurant about 30 min before our reservation, so we sat at the bar (which was beautifully decorated with backlighting) and had yummy cocktails and fried maitake mushrooms. SO GOOD! And the bartenders were very friendly too. We got seated for our 5pm reservations where my mom ordered the bavette steak and I ordered the halibut. Close friends told us this was their fav restaurant, so we had high hopes. We came 30 min before closing on a Sunday and managed to snag the only open table inside. I loved the layout of the restaurant - airy with an open kitchen. It had whimsical sunflower arrangements scattered throughout. The menu was very seasonal, featuring all the summer produce stars (melons, stone fruit, tomatoes, corn, etc.). I recently tried Piccino when catching up with some old friends in the city. We ended dining outside since the weather was wonderful. Piccino has a nice outside patio area that has heaters hanging above in case it gets chilly. I ended up ordering the roasted corn pizza which comes with smoked mozzarella and a sopressatta -like pork sausage. The pizza was smoky, salty, and tasty. The crust is relatively thin, so the pizza didn't feel super heavy overall. My friends were also satisfied with their meals with one ordering pizza while another ordered a pasta. Our server was helpful with menu recs, but I did feel like the service felt a little slow. They may have just been busy indoors that day. I will note that the indoors portion is beautiful and seems like an excellent spot for a date night or special dinner. Overall, my food was solid and the ambiance was great. We ordered the bruschetta, (vegetarian ravioli like thing forgot the name), and the salsiccia pizza. The bruschetta kinda wasn't what I expected cause there was no tomato? ( but maybe it's just my bad for not reading the menu). And had peas on it which was very unique and different from any other thing I've had. The ravioli was really good and the pizza was as expected. Overall I think it was a cute place with decent food, but not anything I would go out of my way for. Our group got the seasonal greens salad, chioccole pasta, and market fish which was halibut for this night. I would absolutely recommend the chiocolle fennel sausage pasta, it's rich and salty and I love the fennel flavor. The halibut was also good, maybe just a tad dry but the sauce paired with it made up for that. The seasonal greens salad was sparse (mainly lettuce) but had a tasty tangy dressing; I would skip this dish next time. I would go here again just for the bananas foster though, 10/10 dessert! Came here for an event recently and was really impressed. First of all, it's a little hard to find but it's in a beautiful location in the Presidio right next to the Skywalker Ranch General Store. Second of all, the pizza is fantastic! Great flavors and wonderful crust. This is a business started by two female best friends (always worth mentioning because I like to support my fellow ladies), a beautiful ambiance, and has much better pizza than you can find most places in SF. The roasted broccoli stood out, and while the portion size was on the smaller side, the dish itself was flavorful with the various ingredients creating a slightly smoky and charred broccoli taste. First off, it's actually a really nice spot in the Dogpatch neighborhood. The lighting is dim, but not too dark, just cozy with an open kitchen. The servers were attentive and friendly. To keep it short, the food was good, but not worth the price. FOCCACIA: Comes with olive oil. Overall not very noteworthy and there was a scent that was not pleasant, I would skip. FETTUCCELLE: A vegetarian pasta with squash and sage in a creamy sauce. While I did enjoy the flavors, a portion of pasta for $30 that I could have finished in 4 bites is overpriced. PIZZA FUNGHI: Pizza was packed with mushrooms, but it was mainly salty. Paper thin crust, but not in a bad way. If I came back I would try the other pizzas because I think they have potential with their topping choices. GIANDUIA: Cubes of chocolate cake with goat cheese gelato covered in a crunchy chocolate shell. Both my friend and I didn't care for the chocolate cake pieces. It was easy to find parking in front of the restaurant but on a weekend, you might want to ride share as parking spaces are very limited in the area. We had reservations so checking in and getting a table was quick and easy. The staff were wonderful with customer service and we felt welcomed. We were quickly seated since we had a reservation but it looked like first round of dining ended around 6:30 PM and there were plenty of tables open as we left. Love the modern farmhouse vibes of the place. We ordered the focaccia, funghi and persimmon pizzas, polpette, and Brussels sprouts. The focaccia was so soft on the inside. I was quite surprised by the persimmon pizza, because I've never tried that on pizza before. Piccino has been around since 2006! Started out as a Cafe, serving coffee and pizza. Evolved into a restaurant and cocktail bar with a coffee house attached to the side! Most of the produce is grown locally in Healdsburg. Upon walking up, the outdoor area caught my eye I loved the decor, the heaters and the lights in the trees outside it created such a great cozy vibe to me. That day we were looking at reservations early in the day and there was tons but then as 5 o'clock rolled around there was no more reservations open so we just decided to walk in and see how it went. We were seated pretty quickly outside, thankfully under the warm heater. I love Italian food so much and I was so excited to try this spot. Their menu rotates a lot which is always a plus. We loved that they had NA options for drinks. For starters we tried the burrata! So good, def a diff combo than the usual I have had but still the flavors made it amazing. For our 2nd item we ordered the Pizza Fungi which was sooo good the crust was so crispy and thin loved it. We made a reservation for our party of 2 a couple days before going and we got two seats at the counter which was pretty cool as we got to see how the kitchen operated. The restaurant side was very bright, light wooden fixtures and gave a cozy feel. Our food came out one after another and was so fresh. Focaccia - We had to order this again after getting it at the bar side and it did not disappoint. Soft inside, lightly crisp outside and paired so nicely with the olive oil. Beef and Pork Polpette - The polpettes were a little smoky, soft and had a nice flavor that was highlighted by the fresh tomato sauce, garlic and parmigiano cheese on top. Funghi Pizza - Decided to try a white sauce pizza this time and I love how thin their crust is but is still able to hold the generous amount of toppings on top. Lots of different textures and rich flavor came through from the mushrooms as well as the perfectly melted cheese on top with the finely sliced garlic. Chiocciole - We were debating between different pastas but the server informed us that this pasta has been on their menu since the start of the restaurant. It was piping hot, sour, buttery and had a great depth of flavor from the meat that added savoriness and spiciness. The pasta texture had the best bite and the crunchy bits on top added to the overall dish. This is a review of the pizza only. I had a full margherita and found it basic, tasting like the type of pizza restaurants offer to just have a pizza option on the menu. Crust was mostly bland, floppy, and only crisp along the outside edge. Sauce and cheese were balanced in portions, but the sauce had little flavor of its own. People seem to like the pasta and pastries, which I did not try, but would be open to. I found the pizza underwhelming, and I'm surprised people like it so much. I read a number of reviews and wasn't sure what to expect when we had an early dinner here with mom and dad after the symphony. But the outside area was lovely, service was great, and they really excelled at the simple things, which is what Italian food is about at it's core. per esempio, the Tuscan focaccia. and the risotto bianco was the perfect texture and consistency. the ricotta cavatelli was also unique but not too adventurous and what we were needing on a cold SF evening. the desserts rotate but the lemon one we had was off the charts.
