Close friends told us this was their fav restaurant, so we had high hopes. We came 30 min before closing on a Sunday and managed to snag the only open table inside. I loved the layout of the restaurant - airy with an open kitchen. It had whimsical sunflower arrangements scattered throughout. The menu was very seasonal, featuring all the summer produce stars (melons, stone fruit, tomatoes, corn, etc.). We ordered: *Summer Bruschetta ($18) - cardamom scented ricotta, pickled green tomato, stone fruit *Heirloom Tomato ($22) - boquerones, pecorino romano, tangerine brined castelvetrano *Corn Agnolotti *Salsiccia Pizza ($26) - garlic pork sausage, red onion, mozzarella, lemon zest I wish I took photos but we had just finished playing a round of golf and were quite hungry late in the evening! The apps were visually very busy, and full of contrasting textures and flavors. We loved the apps, but unfortunately did not love the pasta and pizza we ordered. To be fair, they weren't terrible, but we had similar dishes the week prior (at La Connessa) and they weren't nearly as good here. The pizza was totally wet/soggy (and very pork-y), the pasta was a bit undercooked (like I had some bites of raw dough), and they just didn't maintain the same flavor explosions as the apps. I recently tried Piccino when catching up with some old friends in the city. We ended dining outside since the weather was wonderful. Piccino has a nice outside patio area that has heaters hanging above in case it gets chilly. I ended up ordering the roasted corn pizza which comes with smoked mozzarella and a sopressatta -like pork sausage. The pizza was smoky, salty, and tasty. The crust is relatively thin, so the pizza didn't feel super heavy overall. My friends were also satisfied with their meals with one ordering pizza while another ordered a pasta. Our server was helpful with menu recs, but I did feel like the service felt a little slow. They may have just been busy indoors that day. I will note that the indoors portion is beautiful and seems like an excellent spot for a date night or special dinner. Overall, my food was solid and the ambiance was great. Our group got the seasonal greens salad, chioccole pasta, and market fish which was halibut for this night. I would absolutely recommend the chiocolle fennel sausage pasta, it's rich and salty and I love the fennel flavor. The halibut was also good, maybe just a tad dry but the sauce paired with it made up for that. The seasonal greens salad was sparse (mainly lettuce) but had a tasty tangy dressing; I would skip this dish next time. I would go here again just for the bananas foster though, 10/10 dessert! Tucked away in a more residential area, the restaurant's atmosphere with good lighting and modern decor felt warm and welcoming. The space was lively with conversations when we arrived. Service was straightforward and our server took our orders efficiently. The food was refreshing and tasteful. We ordered the tuscan focaccia, spring vegetable bruschetta, delta asparagus, endive salad, the arancini and the margherita + salsiccia. The first dish took maybe 10 minutes to come out and each dish after came out in a timely manner, made the meal flow nicely. To keep it short, the food was good, but not worth the price. FOCCACIA: Comes with olive oil. Overall not very noteworthy and there was a scent that was not pleasant, I would skip. FETTUCCELLE: A vegetarian pasta with squash and sage in a creamy sauce. While I did enjoy the flavors, a portion of pasta for $30 that I could have finished in 4 bites is overpriced. PIZZA FUNGHI: Pizza was packed with mushrooms, but it was mainly salty. Paper thin crust, but not in a bad way. If I came back I would try the other pizzas because I think they have potential with their topping choices. GIANDUIA: Cubes of chocolate cake with goat cheese gelato covered in a crunchy chocolate shell. Both my friend and I didn't care for the chocolate cake pieces. It was really dense and cloyingly sweet. The goat cheese gelato didn't have the creamy consistency of gelato, it was just an icy dairy dessert that tasted like goat cheese. It was easy to find parking in front of the restaurant but on a weekend, you might want to ride share as parking spaces are very limited in the area. We had reservations so checking in and getting a table was quick and easy. The staff were wonderful with customer service and we felt welcomed. We decided to share plates rather than do individual entrees and it was the best thing you could do. We were quickly seated since we had a reservation but it looked like first round of dining ended around 6:30 PM and there were plenty of tables open as we left. Love the modern farmhouse vibes of the place. We ordered the focaccia, funghi and persimmon pizzas, polpette, and Brussels sprouts. The focaccia was so soft on the inside. I was quite surprised by the persimmon pizza, because I've never tried that on pizza before. But the sweetness of the persimmon slices really helped mellow out the goat cheese flavors for anyone who might not like that strong gamey taste. Piccino has been around since 2006! Started out as a Cafe, serving coffee and pizza. Evolved into a restaurant and cocktail bar with a coffee house attached to the side! Most of the produce is grown locally in Healdsburg. Upon walking up, the outdoor area caught my eye I loved the decor, the heaters and the lights in the trees outside it created such a great cozy vibe to me. That day we were looking at reservations early in the day and there was tons but then as 5 o'clock rolled around there was no more reservations open so we just decided to walk in and see how it went. We were seated pretty quickly outside, thankfully under the warm heater. I love Italian food so much and I was so excited to try this spot. Their menu rotates a lot which is always a plus. We loved that they had NA options for drinks. For starters we tried the burrata! So good, def a diff combo than the usual I have had but still the flavors made it amazing. For our 2nd item we ordered the Pizza Fungi which was sooo good the crust was so crispy and thin loved it. And last we tried their Gnocchi pasta which tasted so fresh and had me thinking about it for days after this visit. I hear good things about their breakfast and can't wait to be back to try it. We made a reservation for our party of 2 a couple days before going and we got two seats at the counter which was pretty cool as we got to see how the kitchen operated. The restaurant side was very bright, light wooden fixtures and gave a cozy feel. Our food came out one after another and was so fresh. Focaccia - We had to order this again after getting it at the bar side and it did not disappoint. Soft inside, lightly crisp outside and paired so nicely with the olive oil. Beef and Pork Polpette - The polpettes were a little smoky, soft and had a nice flavor that was highlighted by the fresh tomato sauce, garlic and parmigiano cheese on top. Funghi Pizza - Decided to try a white sauce pizza this time and I love how thin their crust is but is still able to hold the generous amount of toppings on top. Lots of different textures and rich flavor came through from the mushrooms as well as the perfectly melted cheese on top with the finely sliced garlic. Chiocciole - We were debating between different pastas but the server informed us that this pasta has been on their menu since the start of the restaurant. It was piping hot, sour, buttery and had a great depth of flavor from the meat that added savoriness and spiciness. The pasta texture had the best bite and the crunchy bits on top added to the overall dish. From trying their bar side, we thoroughly enjoyed getting to try some of the dishes in the restaurant side and would definitely come back for dinner another time. read more

However, I found the food quality mediocre - we ordered a pole bean salad to share, spaghetti and chicocciole as entrees. Everything we had was extremely salty - it felt like someone dumped the salt bottle in food and we could not even finish our food (and the food portion is very small). We had to drink up our water to make it through the meal. If all food items on the menu are this salty, I am afraid there will be no return visits for me in the future........ But the outside area was lovely, service was great, and they really excelled at the simple things, which is what Italian food is about at it's core. per esempio, the Tuscan focaccia. and the risotto bianco was the perfect texture and consistency. the ricotta cavatelli was also unique but not too adventurous and what we were needing on a cold SF evening. the desserts rotate but the lemon one we had was off the charts. I got the salad with a Dijon mustard vinaigrette and it tasted like greens dipped in oil. Also the waiter said the salad had radicchio in it, and it did not. The bolognese tasted/looked more like a stroganoff. The fungi pizza tasted medicinal.
