Place is small. Not a lot of tables available. The breakfast menu is not posted where you can see it. I recommend that they post on the door. The food was really good. CASH ONLY!!!! . I am a huge fan of Machaca. Always have been. Always will be. This place makes a pretty legit Machaca. W's potato dish was tasty and filling. The potatoes are great. Actually, everything we've had has been delicious and fresh. Well cooked, flavorful food. It doesn't seem that hard but so many places get it wrong. Not here. They have it down. Probably why they've been in business for 20+ years. Eggs are always as ordered. Flavors are spot on. Food is freshly cooked and hot. Really nothing to complain about. Parking is scarce but just park on the street. Cash (or check - do people still use checks?) so plan accordingly. This is not a giant place so be flexible. Eat outside if its nice. Hang out for a minute until someone leaves and then take their table. Get it to go. I always roll my eyes when people complain about things like parking and no credit cards. You want a place with a giant parking lot that takes credit cards but has disgusting food? Have at it. I'm sure there is a Chipotle somewhere nearby. As for me, I'll be back. read more

Got there right at 1145, just before they stop serving breakfast. Small, homey and very friendly space and staff; cashier gave us recs on what her favs were. We the huevos rancheros with chorizo, Chile verde, pancakes, chorizo burrito and kilter cactus plate. I'd have to say the huevos rancheros was the fav and everything so perfectly flavored. Many places will give u a big portioned size of food to make up for the taste, but taste was on point and portion was just enough to push me over the edge. Don't let me forget about the pancakes. You might be thinking that this isn't the place for pancakes, BUT IT IS!! Another place in Sacramento that I've driven by a million times and never been. My dad brought me for a late breakfast, early lunch one day and we enjoyed their burritos. I opted for their carnitas burrito and for the price, it was a decent portion. I would definitely come back and give this plane another try for more of their menu items before 100% making up my mind. I enjoy coming to this place as much as my wallet allows. The food is consistently great and the service is also impeccable. The family that took over the restaurant(after the original owners retired) have done an amazing job of keeping the quality at the same level while opening up the business hours. I had the green pozole today, which was their daily special. It was delicious. My typical go to is the Little Cactus Special or the Huevos Rancheros. Only cash or check, no card! Shared parking lot that's full at lunchtime on a weekday. Clean and bright interior. Very little outdoor seating, and the indoor seating is more compact than cozy. The patio was totally full, and inside was at 50% capacity. The tables are small, and it would be cramped if you actually tried to seat four people at one. I don't think this would be the best spot to accommodate large groups. Friendly staff and quick service. No masks, but they did have hand sanitizer on the counter and restrooms off to the side. Salsa verde and pico de gallo are self-serve. Water is self-serve. The menu is written in chalk overhead, and they put out a couple menus on the front counter. They didn't give us a receipt. I ordered the soft taco plate, which comes with two tacos and a salad. You can choose a different meat for each taco. The greens in the salad were crisp, and the dressing was sweet. The beef was tender and tasted very reminiscent of canned chili, which was a strange surprise. The carnitas taco was good - the seasoning was great, but the meat was cut into big chunks instead of shredded as is usual with carnitas. read more

I ordered a rice bowl to go with Chile Verde and it was delicious! On top of that, I had forgotten my atm card and they let me take my food with a promise to return to pay later, which I did!! Now, I gave this a 4-star because I felt the bowl was very small for $9 meal. It was maybe an 8 oz to go bowl, and it did have less rice than meat, but online it said it would be $6.50 (totally worth that), but the price increase was a surprise! Make the bowl a tad larger or charge less... I'll be back to try other items. I'm hoping I'm not disappointed because I'm Mexican and there aren't great choices in Sacramento! It's hard to believe this is my 4th update reviewing Nopalitos. Since the change in ownership, the new owners have continue to deliver terrific food and service that Nopalitos is known and loved for. Their chile verde is still wonderful and we still love the Sonora salad topped with it! I just found out they've expanded their hours to Saturdays in addition to evenings until 8pm. Wow, now more options to get their food. Their menu online lists new dishes served as dinner plates (served between 4 pm to 8pm). We haven't tried these yet, but fully intend to. We can report from our most recent visit that the Sonora salad with chile verde is still tops. We also want to call attention to their roasted chile relish, the dark green one in their salsa area. It's just the right amount of heat and flavor. We've not seen anything like it anywhere else and it is really tasty. Yes, they're still cash only. read more

Nopalito, should be like your saying YESpalito. Seen it before popping up on my breakfast searches but being on the other side of town hasn't really been on my radar to try. But wanting a breakfast burrito badly and not finding any place it was the 1st place I saw again. It was during covid-19 so it was togo only. Parking is a bit odd on the parking lot. Some tight fits but the food omg...... We sat in the car an ate it right then. It looked so good and smelt awesome. I ended up with the nopalito omelet. Packed with cactus and poblano peppers, cheese oozing out and a big dollop of sour cream on top. Comes with tortillas and a side of southern potatoes. My wife went with the sauteed veggies burrito. Also sooo good. Has carrots, purple cabbage, zucchini and mushrooms. Also with cheese and the southern potato in it. My wife loved it. We went for breakfast I had avacado scrambled eggs it came with a fresh tomato salsa and southwest fried potatoes if I could give a 10 I would. When we got there for a late breakfast/early lunch, it seemed pretty empty but by the time I'd finished, the place was full. Not that that matters. Portions were oddly reasonable. No huge platters of anything slathered in cheese and bacon. Just very decent savory plates of what seemed to be well thought out food. The machaca plate came with two corn tortillas so I logically piled some pork, chiles and eggs in. Voila- brekkie taco. Salsa bar near the ice machine had but a few kinds. In the unmarked ketchup squeeze bottle in the ice is a spicier, darker sauce. That was my fave. My wife and friend had Tinga tostadas that were fresh, generous, and so good that my wife couldn't stop eating hers until all was gone, not her usual style. My tamale bowl with chile verde was a deconstructed tamale with lots of cheese, chile verde, and flavor. I wish they were located closer to Roseville and were open on Sundays. Always worth the drive. Stopped at this little cafe on our road trip that was recommended by yelp. Pros: 1. Great menu with diverse selection 2. Fast and friendly service 3. Tasty food. We liked what we had which was the Huevos Rancheros, Little Cactus, pancake for the toddler and brand muffin was still warm. We also got a coffee and a Mexican hot chocolate. 4. Cute decor and definitely a Mom and Pop place. 5. Clean. 6. The had outdoor sitting which we would normally do since we have the dogs but the kids and husband are at the end of their cold and it was a little chilly outside. Cons: 1. It doesn't take card which I can understand. We had to stop at an ATM since we rarely carry cash. 2. No high chair and I have a baby so it was difficult to eat holding the baby who wAs grabbing at everything so the husband and I took turn. 3. No changing table in bathroom which is completely understandable since it is a smaller place but I needed to change the baby which got very awkward. The lady let me order one pancake with bacon for the toddler since he can barely eat one.m which was very nice of her. THIS PLACE! For real this place has hands down the best Mexican breakfast...maybe any breakfast..in the area. I can't even really pinpoint what it is that makes it so crave-worthy. Maybe it is the fresh tortillas that accompany your meal, or the unique veggie blend sauted in something heavinly. Even the scrambled eggs taste better here. To begin, we used to go to this restaurant when Rose had the restaurant. We're not sure when she sold it. When we arrived, it seemed like the same cook was cooking the food so we thought everything would be the same. Unfortunately it wasn't. The people were friendly and the baked goods were good. However, the chile verde breakfast plates were not good. There was so much liquid on both our plates the food was swimming in it. We ordered this often when Rose had the restaurant and it wasn't like this. Also, one of the plates had only 3 small pieces of meat while the other plate had 5. Definitely not the way the dish was prepared in the past. This was disappointing to say the least and for over $17 it was a rip-off. We don't know if they were almost out of chile verde or if this is their standard now, but we definitely felt cheated to say the least. Yes, we should have said something at the time but we were in a rush to get to work. Definitely wish we would have gone somewhere else for breakfast. read more

This is a cute spot that a lot of the locals go to. The restaurant is small ,decorated and clean which is something I always look for. The customer service is excellent. You need to come prepared with cash as they do not take debit/ credit cards. We walked down the street (less than a minute walk) to a liquor store and used their atm and came back. Do I wish they took debit cards? Yes, but it will not change my review because I really enjoyed my food and the service. If you like comfort food and tamales I would suggest ordering the tamale in a bowl, it was delicious. Overall a great place to get delicious comfort food and the most friendly service. read more

I can see why it's such a local favorite--the atmosphere is homey and welcoming, and the food is very good. They're cash only; you order and pay at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I've been eating breakfast in Sacramento most weekends for the greater part of a year (covid permitting). This was the best breakfast I've had thus far. I'll talk about the food. I had a polenta dish with Chile verde, two eggs, and some corn tortillas. Everything was cooked perfectly and the polenta still had corn kernels which made the texture perfect. The place is cash only and the coffee is average at best. The service was good and simple with 6-7 total tables. The meal I had did not disappoint. I rarely get excited about coming back for a meal (let alone the same meal), but there's a good chance I'll be back tomorrow. Paid $15 with a meal and coffee. Worth it read more
