My co-worker found NPC on Yelp and we trusted the process that the abundance of reviews raving about the wonderful cakes was something that peaked our interest. We had been planning our colleague's retirement party and wanted something special. Her request was for a red velvet cake and we noticed that it was an option according to their website. My co-worker communicated with them by email and then a phone call. She requested for the message to be written which she thought was going to be some type of frosting or gel handwritten. It ended up being a printed image instead. That's OK, at least the unique name was spelled correctly! When I met the owner, Eric. He was very friendly and helped me when I was lost finding the place. He offered to stay on the phone until I found the place. He told me that they have been in business for the past 40 years or something like that! Wow! This is not the type of shop where you can walk in and pick out items. You will need to place your order beforehand. It sounds like they do business with local restaurants and provide their baked goods and cakes. As for the taste, it was not overly sweet. From what I heard, everyone enjoyed the cake. It was impressive and massive with four layers and frosting, which was edible and not sweet. Usually, I scrape off the frosting on most cakes but I actually ate it. I had several people come up to me to ask me about the cake and where I got it. I think that is a very positive sign that they were pleased with the cake. Now, if you come here to pickup, please note that some navigation systems will lead you to the back alley adjacent to the trash company, and that is NOT where you want to go. If you are heading down Edinger westbound towards Grand Avenue, as soon as you pass Grand, you'll need to get into the immediate left turning lane and make a U-turn there. If you do not make a U-turn, then you will not be able to get into the center where you need to be. After you make a U-turn, make an immediate right into the center. It will then lead you towards a T intersection where you will make a left. Helpful tip, according to the owner, put in the directions to the business called Apex Athlete and it'll take you to NPC bakery. Map this out beforehand and you'll find this place easily. If not, you'll get lost like me and end up in the back alley and have to start all over back at Grand Ave. Another clue, look for the green trim and light beige building where the bakery is at. You'll have better luck navigating to the Evergreen Santa Ana (Weed, once again, saves the day). For the cheesecake, I thought it was wonderful. I got the mixed berry. They were nice enough to print out a pretty sign to stick into my cheesecake. The mixed berry came with macerated blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and chocolate covered strawberries. Macerating gave the berries so much flavor! The actual cheesecake I got was New York Style (+$5), which means it was super rich and thick. Each bite was heavenly. It also had incredible cheesecake flavor and consistency, I'd say the actual cheesecake body is better than Cheesecake Factory. At the very least, it's way richer. However, the crust left something to be desired. The crust didn't look fully baked and the flavor was weak. I'd say the bottom of the crust was good, but the crust touching the cheesecake was too soft. I still thought it was delicious, it just wasn't perfect. The price was also very reasonable ($45 when I bought it). Nordic Princess makes excellent cheesecakes and I loved mine. So I called late Thursday night around 2130 to place an order for Saturday pickup.
