While the Nordstrom Cafe is closed for renovation, I started to go to the Nordstrom Grill for lunch or dinner. I eat in town once or more a week. Overpriced for unsatisfying food. The club sandwich's toast was way to stale and chewy and cold, the interior really too chilled. The toast is suppose to take the chill out of the interior. but it seemed they maybe had it all pre assembled and just slapped it all together, with a brief run through a salamander. The manager assured me that wasn't the case. But nevertheless, this is what it REALLY tasted like to me. I had to send it back, I wasn't going to pay 15$ for that. Injury to insult, this sandwich took 25 minutes to get to me the first time around, so I wasn't going to wait for another dish, therefore I left but the manager was nice enough to give me a raincheck to come and try again.
So, I did. I had the fish and chips next time around, it's pricey, at 17-18$. The fries, not yummy, the fish meager and not too flavorful. It was better at the nordstrom grill in bellevue so I think it's a kitchen staff problem. Shouldn't have been that meager, they're making good money on this rather inexpensive fish, no need to skimp, it's not salmon.
The third time around I had the beef burger, it was blackened charred but inedibly so. How can you do a burger wrong? I'm not even that picky, and i'd had a nice cold beer while waiting so I was mellow and starving, but I couldn't eat that either, besides being over charred, it was also not very tasty. I'd ordered onion rings instead of fries because I don't like their fries, dry, tepid, overly seasoned, skinny. The onion rings were sopping with oil, inedible. Like, the fried batter was dripping and translucent with oil. I got the chicken burger instead and it was ground chicken that tasted much like gyoza innards. Okay if you like that. The buns they use are so heavy, the buns overpower the meats and cheeses as well.
Nordstrom is so convenient to me, and i've eaten there for decades, so I decided to try just sit at the bar and have appetizers instead, so I had a nice happy hour beer and a cup of lobster bisque, it's good sometimes, too salty and thick other times (old) and also a french dip on another occasion. The beef was real roast beef, so delicious and tender and pink. But the roll they put it on is as dense and big as a brick. And chewy and dry, which you think is good for a french dip's jus, but no, it makes for a wet dense wad of bread. Next time i'll ask for more of the bread service which is Macrina sour dough bread and use that for the french dips bread. That bread is absolutely addictive as other yelpers have said. I can't wait til the cafe reopens, I really hope that the management pays attention to the complaints about the Grill and makes some changes with the staff, the restaurant wasnt even busy during my visits, but they really did not care about the customers money and time. Oh also the waitress has forgotten my beer and my bread (even asking me twice if I want bread), and it wasn't even busy. I think this place though fancier likely does a 10th of the business that the always busy cafe does, which could explain the lack of attention to the quality of the food, it's not a big money maker. Because that is what my experience has been. read more
