The older lady that Works at night lost out on giving good or even decent service tonight she rushed us to giving our order for her to take forever inputting the order because she recognized a couple that came after us and ended up bringing out their drinks before us even though we've been sat and waited already .. she forgot to ring in the pancakes until I reminded her I heard her call it out in Spanish and brought our food out in pieces .. my chilaquiles didn't come with the steak and she said it'll be a quick moment .. ACTUALLY it was sitting on the line in eye view where we can see it for almost 10 min and she lied saying it just came out .. we had to remind her about bringing it out and she brought out the " pancakes " she took from another tables order instead of the steak .. ( let me remind you there were only two tables in the whole restaurant) we didn't want the steak anymore because I was 3/4 done with my food and she went to gossip with the younger waitress tonight saying out loud " if they walk out it's not on us " we waited to pay since all her focus was to a group of 5 men coming in and she was super excited to dance and sing to them so she said we can pay in the front .. and as we paid she made it clear she gave us a " 6 dollar discount " even though we wanted a itemized receipt because we were not going to pay for the steak she rang in she used different cashier name im sure so she wouldn't get comps or voids in her name but we both work in the service industry and tonight was disappointing and will not come back first and definitely last time read more

I should have known from the moment we walked in it was not going to be a good experience. The ceiling was leaking. It smelled funky. The server took a while. So much so one someone else took our drink order. There was an ant in my coffee, missing items and to make matters worse when we went to pay another server was using the same register for customers with about 6 crrdit cards all spread out on the counter. She was disorganized so mich so she took my bill and shoved into her server binder. They claimed I needed to update my app just to give my Birthday pancakes for free. Even after telling the hostess it was a already redeemed by them. At this point ask for a manager. Could I have paid for the pancakes myself? Yes, of course. But it was my birthday and the damage was done. To add to the already open wound of bad service, that same rude server talked about us with another customer right in front of us. The manager tried to help, however, that same rude server continued talking about us right in front of he r manager. Obviously no respect. My Husband & I hadn't dined out together in over half a year since my Father died. As a family, we love food, celebrate with food, and enjoy cooking food. And we love hanging out together and excitedly decided to go to Norms as it's been a good experience in the past for delicious classics of comfort and new additions. It was National Cheesecake Day but for a sweet treat, we got the cornbread muffins, just to start off and they were delightful with little morsels of corn throughout. I got the gumbo soup. It had a few pieces of inedible celery or something that I couldn't chew through so I spit them out. A note on the soup: if an elderly gets it, make sure those little pieces of inedible food aren't in the soup bowl because it almost felt like it was plasticy in texture. My chicken fried steak breakfast wasn't good although the pancakes were fluffy, hash browns were, well...hash browns. So those two items were a classic hit. But the chicken fried steak rounder (that was the shape of the meat) was pretty awful with the gravy on top (on the side should be an option), soggy, salty and tasted bad and my scrambled eggs were dried aka overcooked. Perhaps change the supplier of your chicken fried steaks as it's reminiscent of the ones in the Banquet frozen meals. My Husband got a meal with skirt steak, chicken fingers, fried shrimp, veggies, a baked potato loaded and a salad. The skirt steak was overdone and texturally, more on par with a pre cook for the makings of a beef jerky, as that was the texture and flavor. Chicken fingers were chicken meat minced and shaped. These were not chicken breast strips but very much something one would enjoy in school as a child. Frozen fried shrimp are bigger and cheaper at home in the air fryer (Gortons make a frozen fried shrimp). The hot baked potato was loaded (for $4 bucks extra) with chopped tomatoes, large green onion chunks, cold bacon and cheese, the potato cold in the center and completely dried out. If you're gonna charge for the amazing toppings, you can't just throw food on-top of food when it's already cold and assume it will be good. Because it wasn't. And the poor salad was watery, which you could see the water on the bottom of the plate. My husband said it was the worst meal he'd ever eaten. He's a hearty eater, too, but couldn't even bear to take it home. I felt so badly because I knew he was disappointed. I took home his leftovers because I can't see myself dropping that much money on such a horrible meal, wasted. I try to save leftovers but these meals were unsalvageable, unfortunately. Suffice it to say that we paid, tipped our warm and friendly server, we boxed up our leftovers, and vowed to not return to Norms again. Perhaps it was an off day. Although we appreciate the meal, the service, and the staff who make the business run, the food was just truly not on par for Norms. And overall, this was truly not a decent dining experience but very memorable one. Thank you. read more

The last time I was at Norms it was with my ex's mom, I invited her to have brunch with me as I knew she liked this place. In the photo I am sharing I will not have her face show as a respect to her. The place has big parking lot, plenty of parking. The service was excellent, from the host to the server. Our server was super friendly and attentive with us through out our brunch. Food was delicious I had not been there in a while but it was definitely nice to eat there again. Her plate was very big in portion that it surprised both of us as we were expecting something more on the average serving size lol but I had a small piece of her fish and it was perfectly seasoned. It did not need anything else added on top. My steak was medium rare and it was juicy and tender. I did not need to put a fight with it when taking a bite lol. I will definitely be going back soon. Overall it was a very nice day that day and it was a fun conversation we had. read more

Have been here since it was closed because of Covid. Sad to hear that there is only 1 waitress, 1 cook, maybe a dish & 1 server. The 1 other person is all other miscellaneous stuff too. If I was an owner I'd be here to help. I wouldn't let my staff handle this full house. Or suggest to close off 1/2 of the dinning area. I definitely give props to the workers for holding it down. Service was good today by the waiter but at, 11/30/24 8:40 pm when I left, I went to pay for diner it was total of 23.67, I gave the cashier $40 dollar cash, (I went to atm right before this visit) he gives me back $1.33 back, I told him I gave him two $20 dollar bills not a 20, and a 5, he made a big deal about I didn't give him 40, so I just gave him another $20 so I could get change to hook up my waiter, because he did a great job. I went back to my car and saw I only had 2 more $20 dollar bills left and the rest $100's. So I know for a fact he took $60 from me, because I had 5 20's total!!! I have frequented this Norms for decades. Sure I'll go to Dennys and IHOP sometimes , but their menu doesn't compare to Norms. Food and Service just seems to always be better here. Today's review was sparked by my observation where I witnessed a fantastic Service Manager - Dorothy showing exemplary managerial leadership and customer service. I believe today they were short handed on staff where our neighboring table seemed very frustrated. I studied business marketing in college and know many things can go wrong when it comes customer satisfaction. However, Dorothy recognizing that her team needed help, immediately stepped up to assist; she brought the unhappy table back into a positive feeling. They were smiling and felt valued again and that definitely means repeat business for Norms. I was also there to eat with my son, mother and father (late Father's Day dinner). Dorothy also took our order and I was very impressed how professional and genuine the interaction was. Throughout the whole meal she kept checking on us if all was okay and if there was anything else we needed. This is exactly the type of service that sets apart restaurant businesses and gives it the edge. Keep up the good work Dorothy and Norms. Thanks again and we will see you again soon! read more

Worst service ever on a Friday at 11:30 pm. Won't be leaving a tip. The waitress wasn't as slow as other posters have mentioned, but our orders were incomplete. We ordered two steak dinners. She brought one steak, and said, "is there anything else I can get you?" The other steak? The dinners came with a bake potato. She didn't bring any sour cream or butter. When we asked for it, she only brought enough for one potato. We had to wait for another set of sour cream and butter. Then, we asked her if the potatoes normally come dry. Her answer was that unless we ask for it fully loaded, it comes on the side. We pointed out the fact that she didn't even bring it on the side, she gave us a blank stare. The steaks were barely warm. It might have been cooked ahead of time, ready to plate. Then, I wanted my knife replaced because it had dried cheese. She came back with two knives and said it' only looks dirty because of the water spots. THERE WAS DRIED CHEESE ON THE KNIFE!!! We almost just walked out without paying. I have been a customer of Norms for a very long time, including several stores from L.A. to Orange county. I noticed a lot of places make eggs over easy that are not fully cooked. This is incorrect teaching as I was a cook at one time. I am surprised how this is never changed even after complaining in several different restaurant brands. Is this also a food safety issue? I also asked to cook my hash browns well, and they did not. Is part of the problem that some of these cooks are from other countries? It's pricey these days, and adding a good tip. I will be trying a different Restaurant next time. read more

Norms has become one of my favorite places to eat when I am down south. This particular location has been my favorite to go to so far. All of the staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a homey feel to it and is very clean and sanitized. Portion sizes are big enough to share if you wanted. I couldn't finish all of my food. There are a lot of hearty meals on the menu, but you can also find lighter options as well. If you have never tried a Norms before I recommend giving them a go! read more

Norms to me, is family. Been coming to Norms since my high school days in the 90s. We went here after football games. In college, we went to Norns after a fun night clubbing. When I got married, norms Was where we had dinner when we were too busy building up our careers. When we had kids, Norms was where we had pancakes after Mass. We have now come full circle. Our kids come to Norms after football and volleyball games. Our favorites: pancakes, the club sandwich, the porter house, t bone steak, the white fish, the liver and onions (until it left the menu) and of course, the gumbo. The meal was decent, typical diner food. Server was doing their best to host and attend to others, and that's all I can ask for. My only complaint was with the cook. I requested a three cheese melt with no jack cheese. My server put this down in the order and the person who dropped off the food at the table had to take it back to the cook to remake, but that wasn't the case. The guy who brought it back to the cook (had tattoos on one hand, cross tattoo on his arm on the other, and wore glasses) told the cook this issue as he instead ONLY put jack cheese when I'm asking for without it. I mean this is literally a simple request. As he brought it to the cook my server walked over and said I put it down here on the order. My partner and I can hear the altercation as we were sitting in the booths closest to the kitchen and from my understanding is that he did not want to remake it or something. The guy with tattoos has to explain its white cheese and I requested only the yellow cheese (the cook did not understand what was the difference between the cheeses.) I'm thinking to myself okay it's a mistake he just didn't understand, but the cook did not want to do it again and the guy with tattoos started his raising his voice and so did the cook and I'm thankful that the guy with tattoos was speaking for me, but when the grilled cheese came back to me I could tell it was the original melt. It had jack cheese on it. Although, I did not want to complain again and put more stress on the guy. But I mean seriously it's just bread and cheese and he could just remake it. My boyfriend ended up eating it and I just got in n out afterwards. Don't want to make such a negative based on one person, but a cook should not be defensive abut a complaint. Especially, since the restaurant occupancy was about 10-15% at most. It was late at night around 12 am so I get it if someone is tired, but to be talking back to a coworker that is explaining what the issue is on such a simple order is absurd. A cook should understand it's not personal and that a customer just wants to eat what they ordered. Euclid location in Anaheim is just what we need late night after Disney or on our way back to San Diego from LA. Their diner coffee is actually good and I love their waffle batter.
