I don't know that anyone willfully goes to Norms. It's more a place where one winds up after a botched wedding reception, drinking binge, or gambling night. (See also: Patton Oswalt's bit about restaurants you go to versus restaurants you end up at.) I found myself at this Norms because most places not showing the Stupor Bowl were closed. Norms never closes. So I went to this outside of space and time restaurant. Because I don't have a normal human diet I ordered a waffle with strawberries & a whole side of fries with ranch. I don't see a legitimate reason to extensively unpack the acceptable ambience, or the competent service, or the palatability of the food. It's a Norms. The purpose of Norms is to be there when every other business has closed, deserted you, or 86'd you. So thank you Norms for adopting the business strategy of never closing. Note that "never closing" is not the same as "always open." Norms is less "ready to go" and more "not willing to call it a day." Thank you Norms for never giving your staff a moment of rest. read more

Azeb has the best hospitality l've ever received from any restaurant in Bellflower. Sometimes an establishment can be awesome, but if the service is bad then it brings down the whole restaurant vibe. Everyone has a tradition of going to their favorite diner, and Norms will always, always be that place that has delicious, heartwarming food as wonderful as the service no matter the time of day. I was really surprised by my most recent visit to the Lakewood location! Compliments to the chef haha Shout out to our server, he was amazing for taking care of all the tables up until we just about left and another one joined him. We came around midnight on a Sunday and the food impressed us. I was very surprised by the turkey dinner. It was juicy and tender and tasty and the helping wasn't shy at all! A thick scoop of mashed potatoes that seemed like the real thing with chunks inside and my favorite kind of traditional, simple and well seasoned stuffing. I LOVED THE ZUCCHINI, it was cooked in this garlic butter sauce that was fragrant and gave a delicious bite to the veggies! That was a very hearty meal for $15 and really made me happy. The omelette was also impressive with its fluffiness and flavor. We could taste every individual topping, the onion, ham, tomato, etc with a nice layer of cheese on top. So comforting and tasty, I really am not an omelette person but this my favorite of the night! The hashbrowns were yummy as well, crispy on the top and melted in my mouth. Delicious. Pancakes were also incredibly fluffy. They were on the thicker side but were so spongey, it was so great. I've never been so pleasantly surprised by diner food before. Once my family's tradition, and now my boyfriend and I's tradition, I really treasure places like Norms! I went to this Norms in Bellflower a few blocks from my favorite Bar. I was looking for my favorite waitress Alma she was not in the waiter was very attentive. He brought the waters out quickly and the appetizer it was Spicy Chicken Gumbo it's was piping hot and delicious. There's is the only Gumbo I eat.They have a new limited time menu with summer suggested plates. I was not in the mood for Ribs and I kind of wanted a salad. But I ordered my go to sampler plate that I get when I can't really decide it's always good and they give you a lot of different dipping sauces. I also have the Norms app on my phone which offers discounts and coupons. If you enjoy diner / home style meals that will feel you up but won't wipe you out I recommend Norms read more

Oh I got time this morning because I HATE scams. So this is a busy location with dishonest publicity and staff who are amateur with their communication skills. Starting off with telling my mom that the wait would not be long, a couple of minutes. When 15 minutes passes, staff tells her "you're the next party it will be a minute." Another 10 minutes passes while they call small parties if 2-3. If it was explained to us that we would be seated quickly by splitting us into 2 small tables at least we'd have that option. Well, My mom gets up twice now and they give her the hand gesture "wait" (Side note: it's busy but under no circumstance should there be attitude or unpleasant presentation. Please stay out of the restaurant and hospitality industry if customer service isn't your niche) Ok. The staff should maybe be the ones to pause and wave their own hands rudely to their own faces. It's dishonest to say from the beginning the wait time for a large table of 5 would be "a minute" when it won't. Lastly, I just left from celebrating my father and father in law who are both veterans for their Veterans Day free breakfasts. Come to find out they only honor ONE breakfast per check. So you're telling me ONLY ONE VETERAN is recognized per table and is eligible to receive their once a year $9 breakfast? It's the principle. Dishonest and embarrassing to dishonor the other veterans who've served our country. Or maybe it's just THIS location that's greedy and misleading. Because I'm not sure what else to call it when Norms did not advertise that Veterans get a free breakfast, but if 2 come together only 1 is recognized and given a meal of appreciation and the other has to pay. When it came time to pay I kept offering my dad and FIL's military ID's and asked "you don't need them?" - "no. It's 1 per check" "but there's 2 veterans, they each get a breakfast" -"it's only 1" WTF *disbelief LOL. Let's ALL, particularly YOU NORMS EMPLOYEES OF BELLFLOWER do a better job of not only presenting as courteous but respecting our elderly population who's served our country. Especially if you publicize to "honor" veterans with a free breakfast. GOD I HATE WHEN OLDER PEOPLE GET SCAMMED OR TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. PS. The ONE star of saving grace was our excellent server Patricia who was incredibly sweet and kind to us during breakfasts. This location needs more employees like her to be the better representation of the restaurant. Even when I gave cash to the cashier as tip to give to Patricia she sneered back "I know." WHAT THE. I apologize for not taking my photos this time around, but it was a very enjoyable breakfast at Norms. I ordered a medium steak with eggs can't go wrong with that came out to 17.99, hash brown weren't amazing but the steak and eggs were the right amount of protein. The best part is the service by Azeb she waited until I finished my meal to bring the pancakes over and they were hot and fresh with the butter on top oh lawdy they didn't stand a chance. Azeb definitely is attentive and always ready to top off your cup of joe. Would certainly come back to sit at the cafe bar. read more

The French Toast was so thick! Oh my goodness, it was delicious. Our server, Susie, was friendly and attentive. I had not finished the last sip of hot chocolate when she came to drop off another free refill for me. I went into Norms without high expectations, but the food pleasantly surprised me! I had a chicken sandwich with bacon, and it was pretty delicious. Our waitress was attentive, which added to the overall positive experience. The minus one star comes from a few things, none of which were dealbreakers but worth mentioning. First, the wait time--we were told it would be 30 minutes but ended up waiting about an hour for a party of six. The bathrooms were another downside; they were quite dirty and clearly not well-maintained. Lastly, the parking lot is small, and we had to park on the street. To be fair, we came during peak rush hour (Sunday at 11 a.m.), and when we left around 1 p.m., the place was much less busy, with plenty of open seats and parking spaces. If you're planning to visit, I'd recommend going outside of busy times for a better experience with seating and parking. Despite these minor issues, the food was surprisingly good and worth the trip! read more
