My local NORMS for 25+ years! The Food gets 3 stars, Good Simple food, good portions, ok taste, good service - not great! Most of the old time managers not there anymore. Good Management & staff can't survive on assumed pay. prices have increased by 15-20% but most places have also. The BAD is their BATHROOMS they are Horrible....Dirty & badly maintained, for sometime now! (I like to wash my hands before I eat) These bathrooms get a huge FAIL! Came here with the fam last night after visiting grandma at the hospital nearby. It was my first time at a Norms and had a good experience. This one wasn't too busy and we were attended by the staff once we walked in. Our waitress was nice and gave us time to look through the menu, took our order and checked on us from time to time. They are having a special for 12.99 for a NY steak, 6 shrimps a side of potatoes and grilled veggies, along with soup, salad and dessert! Can't beat the price. The food was ok, don't think they give you the best piece of meat, but no complaints for 12.99 it was decent. I loved their soup, salad and dessert (sundae or tapioca to choose from) as well. The food was flavorful and tasted fresh. The portions were big so I couldn't finished my mashed potatoes and packed it to go. All in all, I had a great first experience at Norms and will be coming back! FYI, They charge an extra 3% to help cover cost of food. GREAT breakfast items, the French toast is the best in town and better than most in other restaurants around. Great omlettes, steaks, everything. I am very unhappy with this restaurant. My parents, 2 friends and I came here to have breakfast on Tuesday Dec. 27th. Everything was going well until my dad started to choke on his pancakes. My mom and I were striking my dad on his back to get him to cough up the pancake. It went on for what seemed 5 to 15 minutes, my dad's lips were turning blue and no one came to help. Not one employee came to help us until we got my dad to dislodge the blockage. All that person did was just offer us a glass of water. Went back here about a week ago with my partner. I got the Chicken Fetticini Alfredo. Maybe a littttlle too much chicken but I'm not a huge fan of chicken anyways- I mostly just ordered it because I LOVE pasta. My partner ordered breakfast, but we also got Cajun Tater Tots to start. They were definitely yummy! Crispy and spicy (not burn your mouth spicy but the heat creeps up on you as you keep eating)! As always the service was great, as the staff is generally very friendly here- however, I do have to acknowledge the bad reviews- yes this restaurant can be occasionally dirty. One time, about 4 or 5 years ago, I came here with my dad and found lipstick on my mug. According to other reviews they're still having similar hygiene issues, but honestly, since that one incident, it has not been a problem for me. I like Norms. It's not my favorite place in the world for breakfast, but it holds a lot of memories for me as a Whittier local, and with friendly service and decent food (think general breakfast diner), there's really nothing to complain about. read more

Clean environment friendly staff all wearing a mask and face shields. No indoor dinning however there is outdoor seating. We went around mid morning and sitting in the tent made it stuffy and hot. It took a while to be served. 25min for mozzarella cheese stix appetizers to come to our table and half hour for our meals to be brought to our table. I had two people with me my sister and my dad. My dad is so funny he thought that we were forgotten but we have to understand that due to the pandemic there's very little staff in the kitchen and in the restaurant. They have to follow different processes and procedures temporarily. I've noticed customer service has been a lot more slow everywhere. I've noticed customer service hasn't been the best but I know everyone's trying their best. read more

You think stopping at Norms in Whittier, CA after an evening event and wanting to have a hot/warm meal. Nope, not at the Norms in Whittier, CA. The chicken gumbo soup was served cold, the salad well, was Lettuce and Lettuce heart and all, no cucumber, tomato on the salad just lettuce although, I was given a choice of salad dressing. For over $20.00 plate the steak was so rubbery and I had to keep putting steak sauce on it because it had no flavor, my husband corn beef had so much fat on it and his steam cabbage was brown and over steamed. My husband and I also ordered a ice tea,my husband ordered no lemon on his ice tea the waitress just assumed I didn't want lemon. The Restaurant doesn't look very clean. There are only two bathroom stalls in the ladies bath room and one of the toilets was plugged up, (it was not a pretty sight for me that I was just about to have a late dinner) when I walked into the bathroom. I think that the quality of food and service has declined in this Restaurant. I know that homeless is a problem in CA and in some cases it's not anyones fault and I feel so bad for them but in this Restaurant homeless people were in front of this Restaurant sitting on the front door bench getting ready to make his bed for the night and others by the walkway leading to our cars. It was late, dark and not safe for customers. I give this Restaurant a one star and that is only because the busboy was kind, and was working hard. I provided you a photo of our Lettuce. This Norms restaurant keeps getting worse with the service, I'm not blaming the waitresses it's the management that doesn't have enough staff to serve the customers. Today our waitress had 8 tables to serve most of the tables had 4-6 customers per table it's too many people at the same time to serve. They should have someone serving the drinks and help the waitress with all the extras. It took us 25 minutes to get Our drinks and 45 minutes to get our Food. And when we got our food it was cold. Visited Norms for breakfast this morning and Rosanna was our server. As always it was super busy and I was beyond impressed with the amazing service we received. When I go out to eat, I always hope to get a server he is kind and efficient. Rosanna was beyond awesome!! My family and I love food so we always want the extras! She was always checking with us, multi tasking at the same time with a bunch of other tables and we never went without. Food was good! Of course we got the bigger better breakfast. I tried loading up my hash browns and they were super delicious! Mozzarella sticks for breakfast added the perfect touch haha!! All the employees are super nice at this location. This Norm's location in Whittier is horrible. I don't recommend this location at all !!!!! Floors are dirty , dividers on the table are dirty, I ordered a soda and cup was greasy and nasty , my knife had a food stain... and to top it off I went to the ladies restroom behind the toilet was dirty the floor look like it hasn't been swept in months.. there was blood stains behind the door and on the wall. This was my first visit to a NORMS ever. We were in the area and I love breakfast so we had to make a stop. The coffee is delicious, i usually use flavored creamers but I didn't even need them. They are served in to go cups right now which I appreciated. Covered seating area made for a cool dining experience before the heat really kicked in. My French toast was really good, fluffy, and sweet. I really enjoyed it. Everything else was spot on. Staff was friendly, they've really adapted to the new Covid changes really well. I haven't gone to Norms since the pandemic started and honestly I liked the place, my husband and I would go at least 3 times a month and we didn't have any complains. We decide to go today and this person up front (I'm assuming is the manager) didn't even acknowledged us and ignored us for good 5 minutes and was glued to the register (no one else was up front but this person and us). The problem I have is when a establishment makes bold statements of always serving food (it's a cornerstone of their marketing and advertising) that they should indeed at least be nice while they are informing their customers that they are NOT OPEN. I am sure Norm himself (if there is actually or still a Norm) wouldn't be pleased if he was treated like I was. But as we all know customer service is secondary to making money these days. Service is good the only con is servers take forever to refill on water that's all I drink but can hardly get two refills every time I dine.
