North beach pizza in Berkeley is a solid spot with good pizza! We have been here many times in the past, and felt like it finally deserved a review. What we had: Large Coit tower pizza add garlic (our usual) Large Calzone (pepperoni salami ricotta mozzarella) Pizza was yummy as usual (although i always want more sausage on it haha). This was our first time getting a calzone. While the calzone was tasty, it didn't have the quantity of ricotta i am used to in a calzone (it was hard to find). All in all a good experience. If i order a calzone again i would ask for less mozzarella and more ricotta. read more

We visited North Pizza at 6pm on a Saturday and found it completely empty. We've dined at the one on Telegraph many years ago so we know the pizza is good. We were greeted and were told, sit anywhere we wanted. We ordered a pizza and salad for dine in. The pizza was exactly how we remembered, hot and delicious but our salad had yet to arrive. We flagged down the waitress and required about our salad and was told they were training a new staff that's why the salad was late. After that encounter we were then ignored for the next 20 minutes, with the entire front of house staff (with their backs facing us and chatting amongst themselves). We finally got them to notice us because we wanted to order another beverage. We were the only people in the restaurant and we had a hard time getting their attention. The food is ok, the surcharge is not fair it is like you are penalized the people that spend money. Why don't you just charge a cover charge of five dollars a person at the door ? On Saturday me and my father decided to go to this establishment for our Saturday night meal and have pizza and beer however our Saturday night turn ungrateful because we order beer which it toke 10 minutes to arrive and it was pitcher and we spent 30 minutes for our pizza which never arrived and when I ask the waitress how much more time she say 20 minutes more when we decided to leave and she charges us $27 for beer. They were completely empty and they focused on online delivery instead of customer in store. I don't recommend it establishment at all they don't even deserve one star either read more

New location with bonus upgrades. Have 4 stars because parking is not as convenient as the old location. It's now metered street parking. Food is still great and the place is now on the modern side of things and no longer the traditional look. I preferred the traditional cozy ambiance with the red and white table clothes however I get they're trying to stay up to date. Service was quick, there's a podium to wait for seating in the dining area or you can eat at any of open area seating. It's huge inside! Pics included. It's been awhile since visiting North Beach Pizza, I use to go to the location in SF North Beach, but I was. In Berkeley with the family and it had been some time since I've dined at this location and I was pleasantly satisfied as the quality pizza and other food items remains fresh and delicious. The service is outstanding and was greated with a welcoming smile. The ambiance is kind of industrial, it has a large area to accommodate multiple large parties. Let's start with the good. The food (pizza & pasta) were delicious. The server was friendly but a little slow to serve us considering we were the only people there. The bad the ambience. The owner before North Beach Pizza gutted the very cool Italian restaurant Giovanni that had a vintage interior (murals, fountain, red leather booths) into an echoey white box. You can see why the previous place failed. It is still a white box with uncomfortable ikea style furniture, loud club music and a bocce ball court. When someone places bocce it is so loud it's painful because it echoes so much. I really hope North Beach Pizza plans to update the interior so people will want to hang out there. Otherwise it's like sitting in an airplane hanger, loud & cold. I would definitely get takeout ( I saw a lot of pizzas going out) but I wouldn't eat in until they make the atmosphere more palatable. read more

I used to go frequently to their University Avenue location, but even though I live only two blocks from the new Shattuck Avenue location, today was my first visit. I went with a friend, and we came away raving about our meal. We both had pasta dishes. I ordered the chicken carbonara straight off the menu. My friend customized hers and had shrimp, fettuccini, and alfredo sauce. We were completely pleased with our orders. The toasted bread with butter served on the side was so good, we kept wanting to eat more even once we were full of pasta. Edward was our waiter. He was fun to work with and very attentive. Wanted to make sure we had a fun visit. The restaurant has a bar in the front and tables in the back. Something for everyone! They need and deserve more customers. Treat yourself. read more

BF decided to skip the lines at FoodieLand last evening and tried a local gem instead. There were mixed reviews on yelp but I decided that overall the pictures and good reviews were enough to have me commit to trying this new place. We started with an appetizer of garlic bread and meatballs. Both were great choices. The garlic bread was crazy good, really garlicky and the bread was crispy, not crunchy. The meatballs had good flavor and they were moist. The sauce that came with it was really tasty too. I dipped my garlic bread into it. On to the pizza, we decided on a North Beach Special, no cheese and we added bacon. It looked fresh and tasty upon arrival. Unfortunately, the pizza seemed to completely lack flavor. I've never experienced anything quite like it. The pizza didn't taste bad, which I've definitely experienced, but it just didn't taste like much of anything. The sauce would benefit from some playing around in spices. If they reconsidered that recipe, I think the pizza would've been a lot better. The ingredients tasted fresh but nothing stood out about it. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, not too many customers on a Saturday night. The staff was friendly and the service was prompt. I'm definitely going back to try more appetizers, but I think I'll probably skip the pizza next time. read more

It breaks my heart a little to do this. They have pretty good sandwhiches and ive had plenty of good slices in the past. Ive heard they were under new management, unsure if thats true. The fact is though that i just got their chigaco stuffed for the first time and it was just a lie. Sausage was on top of a soupy thin undercooked marinara. The crust(not corn, regular white soft dough) was extremly doughy and undercooked. Minimal amount of cheese. There are parts of the country where this could be considered thin crust pizza. Just add a thin piece of uncooked dough. Never again. Real shame. This place really is a neighborhood fixture. Really sad to see this. read more

I think their red sauce is one of the best anywhere. Lots of interesting pizza options, good salads. Friendly atmosphere and the bocce ball is a great plus for the family! I have had take out from North Beach Pizza in San Francisco and decided to give the Berkeley location a try. They have a medium size parking lot and street parking. Although the location is on University, Ave., which is a pretty busy street. I ordered the Hawaiian stuffed pizza and an order of mozzarella sticks. They were out of the sticks, which they didn't realize until after I ordered. They quickly contacted me and let me know that they could exchange it but I opted to forgo anything else. It took about 30 minutes for them to cook the pizza. I would give this pizza a 4 stars. It was good, made with quality ingredients but lacked the real pazazz to make it 5 stars. The 'stuffed' pizza is pretty much a small deep dish. I got the hawaiian so it was a normal pizza with cheese, pineapple, canadian bacon, and a layer of crust on top making its 'stuffed.' I assumed that the top would be garnished or have toppings on it but it was just lightly sauced. Nevertheless, the pizza was good. I would say the 12" could feed two hungry people or 3 moderately hungry people. The pizza alone cost $25, which is a tab bit expensive but it was tasty. If you are doing pizza night once in awhile its a nice treat. I did look over their menu and its quite extensive. They did give me one tiny potion of cheese and one packet of crushed peppers for the entire pizza. I'd liked more but didn't think to ask. They also have a rewards program and you can get free garlic bread if you subscribe. I did see a they have a $6 lunch deal with a piece of pizza and drink. I'd like to stop by one day and try that.
