Amazing clinical staff, big shout out to Gabby and Ally they are some of the best people i have gotten to interact with going through a treatment program. the food however has its good days and bad days. the living quarters are great and very comfortable beds. the common areas and client to client interaction made it feel like a home. definitely would recommend for someone seeking help. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS First of all my money and multiple vapes were stolen from me. Employees only had access to my belongings. Second of all I had an elderly woman fall on top of me naked in the middle of the night and they neglected her care for hours. That woman is still hospitalized. I begged them to call 911 because she was showing stroke symptoms and has history of brain issues. They just said she was just "super drugged" like what? Why would you drug her to the point she can't walk or complete full sentences. Stroke. When exiting I wasn't allowed to verify my belongings were there. I was not offered an exit survey like everyone else (I was discriminated against) and I ASKED multiple times for a grievance form. Licensing information. They had no clue. They were very UNPROFESSIONAL. I was never given any welcome info. Never given info on groups. Never attended a group because I didn't know. I stayed in a room isolated for 10 days. 10 days. The only reason I went there was for stabilizing. I didn't get that. I got traumatized, stolen from, gaslit, disrespected, discriminated against and my meds were even wrong. I left worse than I came. This treatment center destroyed my medical records before the 7 year minimum legal requirement and tried telling me different stories for 3 months of me asking for them. Once I called them out on their mistake, they ignored me. The staff passed me around to David Gates, Anna McCabe, Cherish, and Savanna Lambourne, all of which were no help and just lied to me. I suggest avoiding a place that doesn't follow the laws and wastes months of your time without taking any accountability for their mistakes. The Truth About Northbound Rehab in Garden Grove, CA Let me start by saying this: there are many kind, compassionate, and well-intentioned people working at Northbound Rehab who genuinely want to help those struggling with addiction. Unfortunately, the system they're operating within appears to prioritize profits over people. It quickly became clear that Northbound is, above all, a for-profit business--one that seems more focused on maximizing insurance billing than on individualized care. From the very first phone call, the admissions rep was already pushing for a verbal commitment to a 30-day stay. That didn't raise major red flags at first--it seemed fairly standard. But looking back, it's where I should have started asking more questions. Shortly after that came the pressure to commit to a 60-90 day program. Then came the urgency: "We can get you a flight that leaves in an hour. I can order you an Uber right now. Just give me your info so I can set it up." As if people can just drop everything and board a plane on the spot--what about rent, pets, packing, jobs? Once you arrive--often hundreds or even thousands of miles from home--the real process begins. During detox intake, everything you own is taken from you, including your phone, wallet, ID, credit cards, and personal belongings. Then you're hit with a stack of around 30 legal documents to sign--often while still under the influence. You're told there are two beds per room, but in reality, there may be five or six. Here's where it gets disturbing. Say you experience a legitimate family emergency, a financial situation, or a critical job opportunity--as I did. After 20 days in treatment, I had a job offer on the table worth $175,000 a year. I needed to return home to attend orientation and secure the position. I informed the staff and requested to leave. And that's when I learned what I had unknowingly signed. Among the documents was a clause stating that if a client chooses to leave early, Northbound reserves the right to withhold their personal belongings--for 72 hours. Legally, they cannot detain you, but they can make leaving almost impossible by refusing to return your essentials: no phone, no ID, no wallet, no money, no way to get home. Technically, yes--you're free to walk out. But how many people could walk out onto the streets of L.A. with absolutely nothing but the clothes on their back? Their justification? "We're responsible for what happens to clients after discharge, and the 72-hour delay is to prevent relapse." But let's be honest: it's hard not to question the real motive when those 72 hours equate to $9,000 to $12,000 in additional billable services. Especially when I saw others discharged immediately once their insurance coverage ended. Thankfully, I had the means and support system to leave without ending up on the streets. But by the time I purchased a new phone, transferred my service, and got back in touch--the job had already been offered to and accepted by someone else. Let this be a warning to others: Do your homework. Ask questions. Read every document carefully--even in times of vulnerability. Where do I begin, so I started my journey he with northbound a few weeks before I actually made it In, grateful that they had been super patient with me. I'm currently to pregnant so finding a treatment center that will work with me this late in my pregnancy was impossible and almost discouraging however northbound worked with my insurance provider and doctors and was willing to admit me, so I finally made it there after many failed attempts( on my part) and was relieved before anything they took all my belongings and brought me inside after the initial intake procedures they took me to the office to sign the paperwork, n the first thing the had me sign before anything else was a release of liability Incase something happened to my unborn child During detox, the. They had me sign more documents et . During that time they asked if I had any medical issues and I stated I have swelling in my leg and a few sores from the swelling. However after a good nights rest the swelling goes away, the staff member helping me immediately stopped and called her boss who informed us I would have to get a medical clearance from the hospital before I finished my intake, that's when this starts to get bad. They take me out to Anaheim I first had to go up to L&D To get medically cleared for the baby's sake and then I had to go down to the er to get cleared there as well, after hours and hours of test pokes and pricks my nurse comes in and says okay your good to go, so I asked her do you call the rehab to pick me up Or do I, only then at 4 am mind you I'm informed that northbound spoke with case management and are no longer willing to bring me back to their facility, again I'm heavily pregnant, in a city about 2 hours away from where I live and have no money just my cell phone they have everything I own to my name at the facility and I'm just now finding out that they don't want to help me because I'm to medically complex, however they decided this before the hospital gave me the okay and medically cleared me and at 4 am trying. To reach an admin is not going to happen so I call the numbers on my sheet of paper they gave me and a chick in the rehab answers long story short she basically tells me to go f*ck myself and that they can't do anything. My mom finally reached someone and they agreed to take me back and would decide the next day if I was okay to stay or had to be discharged, 5 pm the following day I was discharged, however they decided to throw away 5 of my vapes and a few other items even after deciding I was being discharged, I can't say that the facility wasn't a good one but the way they handled my case and the situation at hand I wouldn't go back ever again. I am now I. A situation where I can't get medically detoxed anywhere because I'm to far along, I wasted two valuable weeks on trying to get into this program and now I am at a Loss of what to do. I take responsibility for my part and that was it taking me some time to get In there but they should of told me that there was a chance this could happen instead now I'm screwed and still at a loss that they had no issue leaving a pregnant woman at a hospital so far from home with no way to get home. read more

I have been to rehab before and this was an insanely traumatic experience for me. This place is horrible ! First they take you in a room while you are HEAVILY intoxicated and then you sign away all your rights. You aren't allowed to ama, they say you can but it's just more of their lies. If you do try to ama they make you homeless by keeping your phone, wallet, and keys. Making it impossible to get home. Some of the staff were nice enough but they are all pretty condescending. After you sign away your life they shove you into a co Ed detox lounge. It was tiny ! There were so many of us too ! If you get bored or feel trapped oh well I guess! I tried to leave about an hour after I got there. Sunny and Brian continued to lie to me about when I could leave or use a phone. They kept saying they hold my things for 72 hours but what they don't tell you is that 72 hours doesn't start until after you are out of detox. Insanely horrible place, if you care about yourself or your loved one DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. Instead go to Pacific Bay Recovery in san diego !!! Much better place to be ! read more

I have worked in the field of social work for nearly 20 years, starting off as a support staff for a program located in L.A. downtown skid row, off 5th and Sanford (Harbor Light Center). Since then, I worked my way up to administrative positions in both private insurance and county funded programs. Trust me when I say that I had accomplished every goal I had set to attain. Then...about 5 months ago, I was going through a really dark time, which resulted in a 2-month run that nearly destroyed everything good in my life. I mention my past accomplishments, not to boast but to emphasize my pride that held me back from seeking the help I needed that could have prevented a lot of the consequences I endured due to that 2-month run. Finally, in early January 2026, my circumstances humbled me and realized I needed help and conjured up enough courage to make the call. The next day on a Saturday Morning, I arrived at Northbound. I have to say it was the best decision I ever made! From the bottom of my heart, thank you Northbound for helping me through what had been the darkest time in my life. Ironically, I was in NB for nearly 2 months. Gradually, NB put this broken man back together. I can not even express how disappointed I am in Northbound CEO Paul Alexander. When I went through Sober Living by the Sea like 20 years ago, he was a case manager. It's interesting to see how he now runs Northbound as a cash cow milking people's insurance policies until they run dry and then just booting them out on the street. Less than a block from Northbound Treatment Center in "the Grove" (which is a fancy way of saying Garden Grove) is a California Covered office. That must be pretty convenient for picking up people recruited from out of state and getting them immediately insured and their beds filled. They employ recruiters who make money based on their ability to fill the beds at this fraud of a treatment center. If you visit, make sure to ask David Gates to show you the 5 person bed rooms that look like homeless encampments, the coed detox, the absolutely disgusting restrooms, where a patient actually defecated in the laundry room in a laundry hamper, the random piles of dog feces from staff members allowing their pets to roam free, and of course the mold issue. When several staff members were asked by a patient if he could use the telephone to contact the health department because he was uncomfortable with unsanitary living conditions, he was told that if he wanted to make a call, he could pack his stuff and sit on the curb and they would then give him his phone and wallet. David Gates will make promises he has no intention of ever keeping just to get you checked in. There are some good staff members who really do care and do their best, but the facility is grossly understaffed. Be prepared to wait up to 2 hours to receive your prescription medications. They hire patients who have 30 days of sobriety as their new staff members. It is very difficult to get to actual AA meetings because those are not billable to insurance companies. This is 100% a profit milking company. Not the proper environment for achieving actual meaningful and lasting sobriety. read more

From start to finish had a wonderful experience with Northbound Treatment Center. I was in a bad spot and needed immediate help. At 4:00 AM, the wonderful Casey B. Calmly, kindly, and professionally got me out of the hotel I was holed up in and whisked me off to their nice, clean detox facility where they medically tapered me off the multiple substances I was on as smoothly and painlessly as possible. I don't know what's up with the bad reviews. But I've have an amazing experience at Northbound. At first, I didn't think I would benefit anything going into the program. The first few days was extremely frustrating and I wanted to leave. I didn't want to change. I didn't know why I was there in the first place. I was blacked out drunk. Had I not stayed there I wouldn't have had the opportunity to see a glimpse of who I really am. Some of the staff are amazing people and really care for you. Some I didn't like. But never really had to bad mouth anyone. The care that I received was great from my care team. In both detox and residential I've had multiple people who would check in on me through out the day. The people I met while there were incredible people with really great personalities. I ended up befriending so many people and collected so many numbers and started a really great habit of reading and praying everyday. The food, had improved more as the cook requested clients fill out suggestion forms and took action immediately which I thought was bad a$$. I especially enjoyed the links program which is centered around the Bible and Christ. I am so thankful for that program. I hope to make it back for alumni Friday meet someday and see how the program is going and see the amazing staff who helped guided me in the way and allowing me to share my stories and seeing me through different eyes. read more

The worst treatment facility I believe I've ever been to the nurses were rude. Staff was rude. The bathrooms were disgusting. They were never cleaned. The food was straight out of a cafeteria and they were putting in five people per room absolutely disgusting. I would never send any of my loved ones there, they also called my family and lied to them. I don't know whether to cause chaos or get more business. read more

Even for the notoriously sketchy and money hungry recovery industry- this place was a nightmare. Clean and the entry level employees were cool and did their jobs well, but for the total lack of transparency and admissions staff: I should warn you. The kid on the phone "Hogan" who got me there was pushy and lied through his teeth about anything and everything to get me into their rehab as fast as possible. I drove there and had all my crap just piled into a car: "should I pull over and pack a bag?" "nah you can get stuff out of your car nbd" Of course they wouldn't even let me compose a duffle bag of necessities in the parking lot and I spent the next week wearing crap out of the lost and found bc the staff wouldn't let me get anything from my car. I missed an opportunity to be a part of a medical research study that very well could have fixed my addiction problem and this dorkus Hogan told me they would support me being a part of it. of course when I get there they scoff at it and tell me I need Jesus or whatever. it's just a basic 12 step faith based program with nothing different program wise from your average Salvation Army. Their phone policy is obnoxious and the food is bad. The worst part was they try and rope you into an extended stay and you have to kick and scream to figure out what your projected discharge date is. Even then they ultimately told me between 7 and 14 days.... like " give me a damn DATE please so I can plan my life." I hated this place and the overall vibe. Don't go here. read more

Northbound Treatment is flagging my reviews on Google so you can't get the chance to actually read my opinion on this horrible place. Here it is: ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TREATMENT CENTER. WARNING!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! - You sign away your rights when you enter their detox/residential facility. You are not allowed to leave whether you like it there or not. - The facility will kick you out and hold ALL your stuff including wallet, credit cards, cell phone and medication for 72 hours. - This program is for convicts who need to show their probation officer they completed treatment. This is NOT where you actually get healing/therapy/recovery. - They are VERY strict with everything. But it doesn't matter if you break the rules, they just send you back to detox and make you do the whole program again. They're just using you for your insurance money. - They lie how good or bad your doing to the insurance to get the most days. A typical stay is 35-45 days. You WONT be able to leave regardless if you feel like you've gotten enough treatment/or you don't like the facility/ or you just aren't getting anything out of it. - Case Managers are COMPLETELY useless. I wanted to transfer to another rehab and the case manager said "It's not my job" to transfer to another rehab. No solution offered. You're stuck. - IMPOSSIBLE to meet with anyone from Clinical Team to review your case and help you discharge or transfer to another facility. You're stuck. You won't get out. - The whole treatment team lies to you about everything. - Once you're discharged they forget your stuff/meds/cash etc. Their goal is to screw you over. As much as possible. You're going to absolutely hate it here. - You get your phone after 21 days of residential (excluding the amount of days you spent in detox) for 2 hours a day from 4-6pm. If you need to use your laptop or any other devices you won't be allowed to do so. - The food is DOG FOOD. ABSOLUTE TERRIBLE. EVERYONE HAS STOMACH ISSUES. You will not enjoy your stay. They feed lunch and dinner. No breakfast. - Groups are 3 hours long. Absolutely stupid groups with worthless information. If you have ADD, like me, you will DIE. - There is 2-3 hours of "free time" a day. You're in group all day, every single day. No exception. Even on Saturdays and Sundays. My review is my opinion. Everyone experiences this place different but I absolutely hated it here. Let this be a warning to everyone: you will HATE it here. But they won't let you leave. The police have been called several times when patients leave the property and call the cops to get their stuff back. How are you supposed to get treatment at a place like this? You won't. I was a patient here from Feb 20th to March 20th. I was going to stay 45-60 days, but I just couldn't deal with there shit any longer. Trust me, the worst treatment center out there. First off, don't even think about making a phone call for 21 days, they say 14 is the holding period but you will not get your phone for 21 days. Even when you do get your phone back you are only allowed to use it from 4pm-7pm. The food is garbage, the staff thinks they are better than everyone. Expect to be in a room with 5 people, both in detox as well as residential. Trust me all you are is dollar signs to them, and if you wanna leave, they will try to hold all ur personal property (wallet, cell phone, debit/credit card) hostage. They will also get you a flight out there, but if you wanna leave early good luck getting home, they will not buy you a flight home. read more

David gates helped me with my court cases as I was here in Northbound. Not only did he help me by writing a progress report and other letters to show to the judge,but he also drove and stayed with me through the whole court process. He was literally with me every step of the way and because of that my 5 felonies became misdemeanors and instead of getting 8 years in jail they offered me informal probation for a year. This was possibly the best outcome I could think of and It wouldn't have been possible without his help. I went to Nourthbound for alcohol addictions was going to stay 30 days I only made it 16 days,I had never been to re-hab so I was a little skeptical well it was the worse experience of my life.They treat you like you work for them,My case manager Stephen Clapp was the worst most arrogant person I have ever met in my life. He lied to my wife twice about my treatment lied to my daughters (who are both well-educated and even lied to my therapist. The food is really bad and it was apparent that they cater to the younger crowd obviously because every person I talked to under 30 had been in the treatment center more than once. They were even playing paintball guns in the hallways while people were trying to sleep and the staff watching and laughing with them. And as far you being there just for the insurance money don't get me started. The first day I was there they tried giving me 11 different pills for various physical and mental problems they said I needed though never in my life have I ever had any of those conditions. I would not even put someone that I didn't care for through that experience. read more

I just got released to go to a doctors appointment and trust when I say I won't be going back. First they told us that it was a dual diagnosis facility. This was completely untrue. After 25 days I only met with a therapist twice for around fifteen minutes. I decided to transfer to a mental health primary program. This was the beginning of really frustrating times. They started withholding medication(pretending to have forgotten to order). Basically no matter how many days you sign up for they will hold you until your insurance stops payment. Also upon intake I blew a 1.9 then was taken into a room and made to sign legal documents. Anyone from out of state beware they hold all your belongings for 72hrs. If you leave before your insurance is maxed out you'll be homeless without if or credit cards for three days. Definitely a program designed for court cases and heroine junkies. The mild alcoholic that wants to take care of your drinking before it becomes a problem DO NOT ENTER THIS PROGRAM. It is a stressful nightmare read more
