Still one of my favorite places to friends and family for an experience during shopping. There is so much to see and experience while shopping. The food and drinks are amazing here. You really can't go wrong with grabbing an agua Fresca or a few tortillas and a pound of your favorite meat. You can sit there and eat it with a friend or even yourself if you don't want to share all the delicious food variety's they have to offer. It has something for everybody. Service is great here and pretty fast.

Such a haven! Anything you want? They've got it. Northgate Market has curated a magical experience with the Mexican goods grocery store, bakery, gifts and a variety of mini restaurants that specialize in products (churros, tortillas, birria, tamales, pozole, etc). The staff is so friendly and helpful in finding your desired item or the perfect thing to have for dinner. The market has made a welcoming space for families and friends to gather and enjoy the DJ and music some nights and other nights sporting events.

I was in the mood for good ceviche and visited this store. Amazing. Lots of great food stations from ceviche, fruteria stands, salsa stations, hot food, Aguas frescas, butcher, etc. Lots of choices, even an attached restaurant for meeting up with friends & family. I ordered the ceviche and it was amazing. I'll be back for more when I'm in this area. You can literally be here for hours (by choice). I loved the selections available and such a vibrant atmosphere. If you're in the area, stop by. It's an awesome grocery shopping experience.

North Gate feels like a full-on food stall amusement park ! This location in Costa Mesa is HUGE! Upon arrival the parking lot is already full (mid day on Tuesday). I'm overwhelmed--in the best way possible. Everywhere I turn, it's just stall after stalls of incredible food. How am I supposed to choose?! There's floral section..tortilla, fresco, Mexican bread, chicken, salsa fried pork stalls...and on and on! I need to come back but may need two hour lunch break?!! The checkout line is guided by a worker to ensure it's moving!

I finally got over here to visit and see what everyone is talking about. Glad I did! Enjoyed a beef tamale and ceviche. Also picked up groceries for Carne asada and Pollo tacos. Fresh tortillas, still warm as I paid for them! Went about 10:45am and when we left if was getting more and more crowded. Very clean place, bathrooms were very clean too. Can't wait to go back and try more things including dessert.

Love this indoor Mexican Marketplace! Makes me feel like I am visiting Mexico. There's counter-style stalls and venues with various deli, bakery, and hot/prepared foods that you can browse, loiter and shop to your heart's content for authentic and hard-to-find Mexican goods in their main grocery store. I especially love their fresh churros and the pork rind (chicharron) stands. There's also a small restaurant/bar inside with ample seating to enjoy the made-to-order foods and beverages you purchased from all the individual stalls. Prices for their normal grocery items are reasonable too.

Northgate in Costa Mesa is one of my favorite grocery stores. I've been shopping at Northgate Market since I was a little girl, but the Costa Mesa location was the first time I experienced their incredible food hall, Mercado González, featuring different regional cuisines from across Mexico. Each stand is thoughtfully designed to serve freshly made food quickly, while still offering the warm and welcoming hospitality that feels reminiscent of visiting Mexico itself. One thing I especially appreciate is how each vendor also shares the history and cultural significance behind the dishes they serve, making the experience feel both delicious and educational. From tamales to sushi, churros, guisados, and so much more, every item I've tried has been absolutely delicious. My personal favorite is El Moro, the famous Mexico City churros, which instantly remind me of my childhood. My second favorite is the ceviche stand, which offers a variety of fresh, flavorful options that are always vibrant and satisfying. Beyond the prepared foods, the market itself is incredible. They offer fresh produce, chilis, salsas, handmade tortillas, aguas frescas, ice creams, and juices that truly bring a piece of Mexico home with you. The store also carries piñatas, pottery, candles, and even features a sit down restaurant, making it feel like so much more than just a grocery store. From the music playing throughout the market to the genuinely friendly staff, Northgate Costa Mesa is an amazing experience and an absolute must visit.

I've been to many Northgates so when my fiancée raved about this one in Costa Mesa, I rolled my eyes and questioned what made this one so different. Holy Moly I could stay here all day! Started with tamales, also had shrimp ceviche, picked up a sandia agua fresca, all while grocery shopping!! Worth the drive even though I probably passed three other Northgates on the way here.

So disappointed in you northgate Gonzalez market. Look at that ingredient list for their flour and corn tortillas. Won't be feeding my family that abomination. I tossed them into the trash! Gross.

It is not super delicious as the grey creammy spicy fast-food. But these food can keep your stomach full for awhile of time! They are solid and organic! You can find a lot of ancient diet process( it is a chemical reactions but it is naturally processed). Most of ancient diet habits remind us the desire of fermentated food! We naturally will pursue those product to make myself feeling better however, the modern processed food eliminated the food maturing process thus I found this place! If you think it is too complicate to pick all the stuff at the same time and don't know how to apply all the natural stuff in your daily diet. You may try the food in the spot! You can also enjoy all the sell product as a meal in the store. It is like a dad and mom pop up sandwich store that you can take out some food in a single ride.

The staff was kind and helpful and there appeared to be a lot of locals enjoying their meals out in their outdoor seating area. While the market had a bunch of fun fermented offerings, the food that I ordered from their cafe was not exactly what I expected. I ordered the chili and spicy kraut grilled cheese combo. The portions were on the smaller side but given it was lunch I didn't really mind. I was more let down by the lack of flavor in their grilled cheese, the spicy kraut was neither spicy and just didn't really add much aside from texture. The chili on the other hand was delicious so that partially redeemed the meal for me. My boyfriend got their bone broth which was very very light and needed additional seasoning though. While I love what they're trying to build here, I'm not sure if I'd go back.

The workers were Japanese and everyone I interacted with was super friendly and welcoming. Their sushi, sashimi, and hot foods section were to die for!! They had all kinds of hot meals, skewers, and snacks that you could box up yourself and pay for by the pound. They also had separate sections for onigiri, sashimi, and sushi. I got there a little too early, so I missed out on the onigiri, but the sashimi was incredibly fresh and just melted in my mouth. I also picked up some mochi, and it was sooooo good. It was soft and pillowy instead of being super chewy, and I really wish I had bought more. I can't wait to go back to California just so I can visit Tokyo Central again.

This chain differs from their competitor Mitsuwa in that they are more focused on being a grocery store. As such their grocery staples and their bentos are more varied than Mitsuwa. This probably makes up for their lack of food court. They also carry unique seasonal goods that Mitsuwa doesnt and vice versa. Mitsuwa has food courts and temporary traveling specialist vendors which are always exciting. Mitsuwa probably has a wider selection of more specialized goods tho. That said both chains are a great service to our area and will satisfy any Japanese food enthusiast like myself.
