Came here with my mother and brother and was very satisfied. My brother got the country breakfast with two eggs any style, ham, bacon, and hash browns. My mother got the banana strawberry nutella waffles and I was honestly eyeing her food the whole time. I got the create your own omelette that came with hash brown and a choice of sausage, bacon etc. Food was delicious. Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. My brother also ordered the frozen hot chocolate and the waiter gave me his left overs in a to go cup. So I am VERY happy!!!! Out in NJ on a cycling ride and was looking for a good lunch spot open to cyclists. Great brunch/lunch spot in the summer. They have a outdoor back patio area with plenty of tables so you can keep a eye on your bikes while you eat up for the other half of your ride. Great service they kept our water glasses and bike water bottles filled up with icey cold water. Had a great selection of diner food. Burgers, omlettes, sandwiches, fries, and pacakes and waffles. Had the 2 eggs scrambled with corn beef hash. Down home diner food that hit the spot. Topped it off with a side of buttermilk pancakes. Buttermilky, fluffy and griddled to perfection. Thirst quenching arnold palmers and it filled our bellies up. Skip the cheese fries though. Fries were fried well but it was only topped with american cheese slices. So I didn't need to read the poor reviews to know exactly what is going on in this establishment these days, sadly the food has become expensive as we know things have but the quality has become terribly poor! Expensive food and crappy food just don't seem to work. But that is not all the service is very lacking too and to add insult the topper is the restroom. Seems clean and nice and then I saw the toilet seat in the mens room! Trust me zoom in! How is it you refuse to buy a new industrial toilet seat for your restaurant? This is horrible. Everyone I've taken here loves the burgers but I'm a sucker for breakfast, especially with their freshly squeezed orange juice. This has been a neighborhood standard for years. Reliably, consistently, delicious food, open late. Your classic Jersey diner. Recently, within the past few years or so, they've refined the menu. It went from one of those eighteen page books down to a single double sided sheet. The quality has skyrocketed, while the prices have remained fairly standard. They still have all the traditional diner favorites: eggs, breakfast specials, chili, chili fries, disco fries, Greek plates (gyros, etc) as well as dinner specials. My standard order is some type of egg dish, so I'm not one to speak on the more robust choices, but from the cheeky glances at other diners' plates, everything they make looks good. I can vouch for their chili - it has real chunk beef, not just ground meat, and pita chips. Space is clean, sleek and fairly modern. Staff is friendly and competent. Let me start by saying I have always been a big fan of Northvale Diner. Went there today for an Irish breakfast on St Patrick's Day. Total disaster. Maybe they don't know what a real Irish breakfast is or maybe they don't understand how to prepare it. First of there was no toast. Soda bread was $3 extra for a small cookie size soda bread. Black pudding was raw. Maybe they don't know this is a meat product. Totally raw. There was no white pudding at all. Sausage was ok but deep fried??? Bacon had a weird butter glaze??? If you don't know what a meal is why advertise it and try to serve it. Spent the rest of the day in a room I didn't want to be in due to raw blood pudding. As far as diners go, this isn't the greatest, especially when you consider that New Jersey is famous for its diners. Some members of our group ordered burgers while others ordered the standard breakfast fare. The French toast was a bit dry. The burgers range from a simple cheeseburger to some truly over-the-top creations stuffed with onion rings, macaroni and cheese, and more. The food was quite greasy. The turkey club was good - unlike many places the turkey wasn't too dry. This diner also advertises its "Wild" shakes - over-the-top milkshakes stuffed with all kinds of things. Our group ordered two: one with cannoli bits and topped with a whole cannoli and one with cheesecake bits that came topped with an entire slice of cheesecake. While novel, they're very expensive and only mediocre, especially for the price. They essentially taste just like any other shake, but for twice the price. If you're looking for a quick bite or a crazy milkshake, this isn't a bad place to go, but as far as diners go there are better in the area. read more

I went there for breakfast with my wife and my sister. Quite a busy place when you walk in but we were seated within 10 minutes. The waiter was super friendly and the place was jumping with great looking food coming out of the back. The food was fresh and prepared quickly with nice size portions. Northvale Classic Diner offers some fascinating items. i haven't had 1 negative experience here. it is consistent & the service makes me feel like royalty. i sit at the bar usually. i ordered a ginger ale. i know. it was a weekday. the menu is extensive & the specials are enticing. i needed a real bowl of soup. i figured that french onion soup would hold me over until dinner. the cheese wasn't mozzarella, the standard shard. it was guyere. i know. how fancy. no complaints. the main event was the entree. i decided on one of the specialty burgers on the flip side of the menu. it was simply amazing. a super heavyweight indeed. the gorgonzola, the mushrooms, the onions (carmelised) baby spinach, tomatoes. the turkey burger was absolutely divine. i was floored. how could a diner be this delicious and not receive the just credit for offering a true dining experience?i tipped the waiter half my bill. i was that impressed. sometimes you have to pay it forward. so come to los jersey and be prepared for a culinary moment. you won't forget your first love again. read more

This is the worst place to order delivery. I ordered lunch one day to have with my grandmother at her rehab. We placed the order through GrubHub at 1130am they said delivery will be here at 12:15-12:25pm after multiple phone calls and chatting with GrubHub still no food at 1:12pm as I wrote this. The excuse I was given, we were busy and I only have one driver. Then disable your delivery from 3rd party services for the day. This is completely unacceptable. GrubHub was even surprised. If you can't handle the output either hire more staff or don't do it at all. This place has pretty good food but it's not worth it. There are other diners in the area. read more

Fanciest diner I've been to. This diner has a bar smacked in the middle of the restaurant, say what?? Friendly staff, mediocre food. Funny story: Our server asked us what soup we wanted with our meal and listed a series of soups. I told him to get us whatever he recommends and with utter confidence, he said "I gotchu". A few minutes later, he came back with the most basic soup: chicken and rice. That gave me and my boyfriend a good laugh and made our experience a memorable one. I got their penne vodka and my boyfriend got the philly cheesesteak sub. Both were okay but they came in big portions so we got our money's worth. RIP OFF!!! First I have to say, this place is local. I'm not complaining about the quality of the food at all, BUT it is NOT worth the high price. After driving for 2 1/2 hrs, my husband and I were hungry so we decided to go to the diner because usually it is quick service especially if you're just ordering a salad. Hubby didn't want a sandwich so asked if he could have the same thing but a salad instead. I ordered a Greek Salad w/Grilled chicken and a side of grilled veg. First, it took almost 30 minutes for us to get our salads. Second, I didn't get the veg until almost 15 min after the salad was delivered. They first brought out steamed soggy vegetables. I sent it back saying it was incorrect they are supposed to be grilled. Third, we got the bill and almost fainted $50 and change so with a tip it was almost $60 for TWO SALADS!!! When I questioned the bill, I was told that because my husband's had smoked salmon on it that was an extra $7, fine that means we were charged almost $10 just for lettuce! No tomatoes, no cucumbers, no onions. Just lettuce. I don't know where they buy there lettuce, but where I by mine it's only $1.99 a head and maybe $3. for the special kind. For $60 i could have gone to an upscale Italian restaurant and had a full meal, not just salads and veggies. This diner felt a bit more modern than the other ones around bergen county with their eye to detail but still captures the old diner feel with the booths. When we came here in the evening time, the staff was very friendly and didn't mind that we were a little bit loud. The food was better than some places I have visited. Unsure why currently on 3/22/17 there are only 3 stars for NVD. It is most likely the best diner in Bergen/Rockland. While their prices may be a small percentage higher than an average diner, you get what you pay for. They have some creative, out of the norm dishes you can't find at any other diner in the lands of the suburbs. If you are a meat and potato, vanilla, traditionally boring and not living a little on the wild side, I would definitely tell you to stick to your burnt coffee at your 24 hour diner with a $4 breakfast special. You don't come to NVD for scrambled eggs and pancakes. You come for egg & short rib breakfast tacos, a brunch burger or anything else you couldn't categorize as BASIC. Avoid this place! Went here on a regular prior to renovations. Went here tonight with the family for a quick dinner. Ordered the mozzarella sticks as a starter. They were so brown that the oil in the fryer may be dirtier than the oil drained out of your car after 10k miles. The server brought us 3 stale dinner rolls to the table for a family of 5. Daughter ordered penne alla vodka. It showed up with chicken in it. A $4 up charge! Son ordered a brunch burger cooked medium. He ate 1/3 of it before we noticed that it was raw inside. Wife had chicken wings and asked for blue cheese. After receiving the order it took 15 more minutes to get the blue cheese. We were told that they had to go to the basement to get it. I ordered a southwestern salad and it was nothing to brag about. Our server noticed that our water glasses were empty but even after telling us she would get us a refill. To no avail could we get a drink. If the supposed manager can get the wait staff to stop congregating and do their job would be great. The bus person did try to clear or plates prior us being done. Upon telling our server about the food issues she did have the burger removed from the check but swears the penne was ordered with chicken. She did try to pack the penne alla vodka in the same container with the wings to take home. Realizing it wasn't a good idea when my wife made a face. Went to pay the check and I think that the girl at the counter didn't understand when I told her that I would not be back. She just kept smiling (due to most of the wait staff does not speak English). The manager finally showed up and when I expressed my disappointment. All he could say is he wishes he knew earlier and took no action to correct the issue. I did pay for the chicken I didn't order but the wait staff will not see a tip from me!!! But the rest of the staff was in the back touching each other, yelling, and cussing. The manager or owner was right there as well and did not say anything to them. The Buffalo Wings tasted mushy and was horrible. The Spinach Artichoke Dip tasted straight out of a can that was just microwaved. I came here once before when it was dead. Food came out quick and was good. Service was pretty damn good too. Our waiter had a sense of humor and was pretty bold about it. You're a winner too buddy, lol. My second time here, the place was packed and we had to wait for a table. Food came out fast, but sucked! My scrambled eggs tasted like egg beaters, and the bacon was horrible. GF ordered dry rye twice, and it came buttered. When our waiter came back with another order it wasn't even toasted. He later came back around with a carafe asking if we wanted more coffee, and he just dumped it down on the table and didn't even fill up our cups, just walked away. The guys were tossing glasses or dishes around and smashing them at the bus station. On our way out, the host with the most was just chillin' at the host/hostess station resting his head in his hand and said, have a nice day with a lackluster attitude. Maybe I'm missing something, or the Northvale Classic Diner is all about breakfast. I've been here twice for dinner, and each time I left quite unimpressed. The diner suffers from an identity crisis where they can't decide if they want to be a "restaurant", or a diner. They charge restaurant prices for what is essentially basic diner food. They have an extensive menu like any good diner should, but the food itself is not prepared well. There is a huge inconsistency from meal to meal. Two of us ordered the exact same thing (lamb burger), one came out very dry, while the other one was cooked well. However for the one that was cooked properly, there was a big black hair lying on top of the Tzatziki sauce. At that point, our meal was pretty much spoiled. To make matters worse, only our waiter apologized for the hair, and no one offered a free coffee, dessert, or anything. Soooo, with that kind of cleanliness, service, and sub-par diner food, I won't be visiting the Northvale Classic Diner again. Maybe it is fine for breakfast, but not for me. read more

This is my go to place. Comfortable. Majority of staff friendly. Food always good. Waiters in early am r great. Very eager to please. Greet u warmly and eager to make sure u have everything. Food is always great. My daughter and I went New Year's Eve about 1:30 pm . We were seated right away and when the waiter brought our drinks he literally thru the straws at us. My daughter and I looked at each other. Excuse me Ok then daughters. drink was brought and again he threw the straw at her. When the table next to us had their drinks brought he respectfully put them down next to each drink. They were brought their food first and we waited.
