I was with a group for my sons birthday last Saturday. We not only could not get the appetizers we wanted since they were out but a couple of. Dinner entrees were not available. Our waiter was pleasant but after we got our food no one checked in about beverages or how our food was. We went early for 5:00 sitting so you would think they wood not run out of food. I have 3 favorite Joe's locations. Hyannis is one. I am a vegan, and Joe's staff bends over backwards to accommodate. There are three meal choices for me which beats having to just get a salad when I go out. Those three choices are fantastic. The rest of my family also loves going to Joes. I'm giving this place 3 stars because the first time we came to this place it was outstanding a well deserved 5 star spot. I was so excited to revisit this spot expecting the same excellent food and service. But I was horribly disappointed which is why I am here writing in . First off their "fresh fruit sangeria " was completly watered down and was served with ONE rotten blueberry in my glass. The bread was harder than my head and the salmon entree I ordered tasted like it came out of a freezer package then was served to me burnt . I would not come back to here ever again. NYAJ is an excellent casual dining option at the Hyannis mall. Let me Start by saying that every order at this restaurant is preceeded by a bowl of amazing bread and a side dip of olive oil, spices, and parmesan cheese. This stuff alone is worth the trip. It is to die for. The actual entrees here vary in quality but typically you cannot go wrong. I've gotten salads, soups, burgers, and steaks, all have been phenomenal. I'm currently waiting an ahi tuna salad and I will definitely post a pic when it cones. Overall, this is a great place to check out and not just a mall convenience trap. read more

I liked this place before. The table wasn't 100% clean, the "home-made" bread was cold didn't taste fresh, too chewy, and kind of reminded me pillow stuffing. The "yellow oil" served looked like antifreeze. The service was good so was the Cobb Salad and cold beer. read more

I have eaten here a couple times. The food consistent and good. Most recently, they didnt have what I ordered, the manager came to me to tell me that they had tried out a new wrap for the enchilada's and they were not working out, and asked if there was another item I would like to try. I appreciate them wanting to serve quality food instead of serving sub par food just because its what I ordered. The food I ordered instead arrived quickly and was very delicious. The portions are large and food the flavorful. The environment is fun and lively, its a great place for locals and visitors alike. The following is an excerpt from the email we sent through their website: "During our dinner it was apparent that above all the food was of a different quality than any other NYAJ location we had dined at. Both my wife's Caesar Salad (lower quality grated Parmesan cheese, watery romaine hearts) and my Not Your Average House Salad (creamy dressing thousand island-esque, not vinegarette, soggy sundried tomatoes, wilted mixed greens) were sub par and came out entirely too fast to have been prepared in house. Our entrées were also disappointing. My wife's Chicken Piccata was not prepared as normal. The chicken breast was not butterflied, and not seasoned as it has been elsewhere. My Sweet Bleu Burger was served with very little toppings on the burger, tough and leathery bacon, a crumpled greasy bun, and the burger itself was unevenly cooked (half well done, half medium-well) when I asked for medium. My iced tea tasted off. Even our bread and oil were prepared unlike our usual experience (in the rear kitchen and cold bread). All of this would have been resolve-able, however our server was overwhelmed and unwelcoming to the point where we felt uncomfortable mentioning these shortcomings. She was swift in addressing us when we were seated, but whisked away after we ordered drinks and entrées, not asking the question we've been asked at every other location: "have you dined with us before?" She would wisk away quickly each time she visited (twice after taking our orders), and did not clear any plates during our meal, leaving all on our table until the end. In the end our server struggled with giving us our bill. We attempted to utilize my birthday coupon, and she failed to apply it at first, and we had to catch a manager to correct the bill, but with no follow up from the manager. Additionally, the iPod on the bill tray had a clearly cracked screen. She clearly seemed busy, as we witnessed the same brevity with other tables. We even overheard a guest at a nearby table addressing the improper dressing on his salad, and she simply told that guest that he was incorrect. So distressing!" read more

I absolutely enjoyed this place. To start off your dining they give great bread with an olive oil dip. It was simply great and I almost filled up on that. I ordered a sandwich with salad and split a pizza. Great flavor with everything, and enjoyed their unique dressings for my salad. Their pizza was also good and I would not hesitate to order the same combination again. I only wish they had some locations in NY. read more

First off, the bread and dip is amazing. I cant speak for the people who dont get more bread, but I never have that problem. Maybe the staff is instructed to not replace it on their own, but all the times I visit and ask for more they always get more. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is pretty good. I also enjoy the chicken dishes here and there are some good deals during happy hour too. This place is very good and I enjoy the warm bread before my meal. Some people enjoy the olive oil mix with the bread, but it's great either way. We have not asked for second servings of the bread, so I can't comment on their denials for ''seconds.'' I enjoy the breaded chicken dish which comes with french fries that are fresh and not greasy. One major complaint I have is that the waiters/bartenders do not put sugar around the rim of the glass for all nonalcoholic drinks, as they are described in the menu. We have to ask repeatedly for this to be done and we normally get a roll of the eyes. However, that is how the drink is described in the menu. I can't figure out why they continue not to prepare the drink as listed. read more

Love this restaurant! This was the second time i've been to the Cape location. I usual go to the Randolph one but they are both EXCELLENT in atmosphere and food. Especially the Ahi Tuna Wontons...can't get them anywhere else like this. I also has the Angus burger, excellently cooked and juicy. The foccacia with olive oil that is served on the table is sooooo great you can almost eat too much before the meal! You will never be disappointed here. read more

We were extremely impressed with the entire experience at Not Your Average Joe's. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly and the beer and wine selection was extensive. Consistently good food...not as much with the customer service. Okay, for a chain, this place is pretty good. I'm a repeat customer and I'll go back because I know the food is reliably decent. That said, my experiences on the customer service side the past couple of times have been lacking. One time, over the winter, my friend and I sat at one of the bar tables. They had the door to the mall propped open and it was blowing in cold air. Despite requests to shut it, they response was along the lines of 'not my problem'. More recently, a bunch of my friends and I went there for an impromptu dinner party. Our server was fine, no complaints. My frustration was with management. We got there after nine and granted, the close time on the door is 10pm. But they shut the place down around us as we were having our desert. It's one thing to prepare the restaurant to close - I've worked in the biz, I know the deal - another entirely to shut off the music and give an atmosphere of 'time to go home', especially when it wasn't too much after 10pm. Generally, the hours of an establishment denote when the kitchen is open 'till, not the front of the house. I was a server and I always expected I and the management would stay as long as my last table was enjoying their meal. Not only did the manager not acknowledge our bewildered 'wth' looks after turning off the music but he scurried off to do his manager duties in a way that conveyed that he just wanted to get the hell out of there. Not once when I've been to this place has management popped over with a 'hello, how is everything' or something similar on the way out. Maybe I'm being snooty, but I think the best way to cultivate good customer relations is to go that extra step and make your customers feel valued. On the plus side, my more recent food experience was, as always, awesome. read more

Nice atmosphere. Great bread and dip with your meals. Promising food, but unfortunately ours did not arrive as hoped. My husbands burger was ordered rare. Came rare, but with one side burned and the other black and blue. French fries were tasty but cold. I asked for Waldorf salad with regular cheese instead of smoked cheese. It came with smoked. Service is a bit slow, but I still hopeful for a better experience at my next visit. read more

This has been one of our go to places and I usually ordered the Mustard Chicken with French Fries and it was always terrific. We went again today and I'm afraid to say I was disappointed. The French fries in the past were always first rate. Not any more as, according to the waiter, they made a change. Needless to say the change was not for the better. Instead of using fresh potatoes they are now using something frozen which doesn't compare. The ketchup, which the waiter claimed was Heinz, tasted off. Maybe it was spoiled or maybe they use an off brand. The chicken was also a little over cooked and not as juicy as in the past. Not real bad but not as good as it has been. read more

We went to Joe's at the Cape Cod Mall and it really was excellent. The server was attentive and always showed up at the table exactly when we needed him. There was a woman vacuuming around our table prior to us being sat. The place was exceptionally clean. The manager was seen walking around keeping an eye on things. This is a well-run place. The bread and oil was so delicious. Mustard-crusted chicken is always reliable! Joe's Jungle Juice was also delicious. We are definitely going again soon!!! read more

Was just looking for a good place to watch a baseball game and stopped by this place. When I walked in I noticed that it looked much nicer than I was expecting - cool vibe for a resto-bar. I actually had quite a bit of time to notice the decor because no one said anything to me for the first 5 minutes I was there... The hostess even walked by me twice without even acknowledging me. I almost walked out but I was more concerned about the score of the game than my ego and eventually the bartender asked me if I needed a menu. He was cool and helped me out. Food was solid, bread with oil was clutch - exactly what I wanted. NYAJs has decent food but it's hard to overcome the poor service so I'll probably just check out a different place next time. read more
