We went to have a bite and ordered the Caribbean Chicken Apps (Very Good) along with a pizza. Figured I would do my pizza review (One Bite Everyone Knows the Rules). The taste isn't bad but it is a mess. It is a thin crust which I think would be great if it was crispy, worst flop ever. This crust was like it was defrosted and couldn't get crispy. Where do I start. It's your below average Joe's. I used to have one that I went to in Newburyport MA. That location has closed and this one will be going down the same road if they don't figure it out. This is a beautiful restaurant. Spacious clean looks l something out if one of the home or restaurant improvement shows. Reclaimed this and that but well done. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken immediately. It pretty much stopped there. I ordered the grilled chicken with risotto and spinach.How do you screw up spinach and grilled chicken? The spinach was awful. The chicken was like a picture out of a magazine. It looked perfect. The chicken if it was in the magazine would have been photoshopped. It tasted like it was frozen prior. Just tough and chewy like an old pair of sneakers. I would have sent it back if the waitress showed up to ask how it was. I was starving and had not eaten all day so I suffered through it .My wife ordered the Waldorf salad. It was missing a couple of ingredients but that was ok. The chicken was dry and it was soaked with dressing. I mean soaked! If it was school vacation week I would have thought someone took their children to work there and they cooked my meals. Can't even get a salad right. My wife placed it on the side and eventually the waitress appeared and asked if she wanted to take it home. We informed her it wasn't a good meal. She asked if we wanted anything else and that she would ask the chef about our meals . She removed the salad off the bill. There was no visit by the chef or a manager. I actually would have spoken to the manager if they were willing to speak to a client with a bad meal. Perhaps the manager and chef were off today. All I know is the area is packed with choices. You would be better off trying any of them first. They have been in contact and offered to try to make things right. I declined do to the fact it is approximately 100 miles round trip for me . Instead I suggested an incentive program to them for the most improved or top staff member. I asked them to let me know they stated they like the idea and will let me know. I had a less than stellar experience in the past, however I decided to try Not Your Average Joe's again, as some time had passed and I was hoping maybe there were new staff members or some improvement. My fiancé and two children went for a last minute dinner on Sunday, and it was a great experience! Shivan was our waiter, who also greeted us upon arrival, and he was very warm and attentive! I'm on the fence on how to rate after a couple of recent visits. In my mind I remember loving this place in the past. I recall the menu being super unique and "not average", pun intended. Well I haven't got that feeling the last few times. Granted there are different things on the menu but I'm not wowed. My last visit was for happy hour. The HH specials selection was ok but seemed a little skimpy. There's better options elsewhere, but if you were going to dine here it's an option to consider. The slider crab cakes were good but are dwarfed by the slider buns. The wings are definitely average at best. Small, not very meaty at all and the seasoning was hiding so they just tasted greasy and lacked any special flavor. One thing that I love to hate about this place is the focaccia bread. The dish came out lukewarm, with the chicken on top cold and clearly just thrown on- not mixed in at all. I had a few bites and just couldn't eat it. The cream sauce was non-existent. Fresh mozzarella on top? That's what the menu said, but it was nowhere to be found. Our amazing waitress kindly took it back, apologized, and expedited my replacement- the Mona Lisa salad. The salad was phenomenal! I would return just to order it again. Parmesan crusted chicken, fresh mozzarella, and an amazing creamy basil dressing. Our waitress (I wish I remembered her name) was so sweet, funny, and understanding. She made what could have been a very unpleasant experience great. The other people I dined with really liked their entrees, so I'm going to assume I just made a bad choice with the pasta dish. Had the sirloin steak, spinach and potatoes. Steak was cooked correct which is a plus. Potatoes were good but cold. Assuming they are staged. Spinach was ok. All in all a good meal. Updating to a 4. My first experience was less than great, but I heard such good things, I tried again. And again. And now I'm essentially a regular. The vibe is great. Better scene and look than other NYAJ locally. The food has been excellent. Went tonight with a group of 4 and everyone's meals were delicious. Service was amazing, this review is based on food. 4pm on Saturday. Bread - SOGGY and cold. From being cut and stored in plastic bins before properly cooling. Oil was perfect. Cheese burger & fries - ordered med well. Served RARE. Fries - undercooked, cold and rubbery. 99 Restaurant can do MUCH BETTER. Spaghetti Squash Bolognese - wasn't asked if I wanted a lunch or dinner portion (difference of $4). Served on a small flat oval plate, not a bowl. With a clump of spaghetti squash in the middle. The sauce was COLD. This portion of just vegetables (vegan meal) was so small! Especially because it was served on a plate! When I saw the bill I was shocked that I was charged for a $17 DINNER PORTION!!! Especially when compared to a huge cheese burger and fries at $14. Our server was quick and friendly. She came to the table plenty of times. When telling her about the raw burger she said she'd let the kitchen know. We didn't expect any money off the bill for this anyway as it was 3/4 eaten which is fine. Just very disappointed in the portions, quality of food and price for the quality. We love this place. I find them to be constantly good with every visit. The drinks are delicious and really the highlight of the meal is the complimentary bread and dipping sauce. They offer a gluten free version of the bread as well and many of their meals can be made gluten free. Very accommodating with dietary restrictions. It works as both a date restaurant and a "fancier" kid / family spot. It can be busy on weekends all day and night, with the shoppers on this busy street. They take reservations, which always works well for us. The ambiance is nice inside the restaurant. They have a small patio, which is nice in the summer months. The patio is adjacent to the busy road, so there is a lot of traffic noise. Food is good. I've been here 4 or 5 times, but haven't found my favorite entree yet. The pizzas, appetizers and salads are great. They usually have local beers on tap. I love this restaurant, for the most part. Tons of options, good atmosphere, good for pick up or eat in. The staff is always great. I go in often for lunch or to grab a few of the specialty pizzas (buffalo chicken highly recommend). My issue is the consistency in the quality. Sometimes it's great, but you can tell the days when the food is fresh, compared to when it seems as if it's been sitting around. I've had the chicken tenders many times, often there fresh/delicious and others there dry/ rubbery, tasting old. Trying new things has been a risk. I went for a chicken quesadilla after seeing the photo on the site. What I got was a sloppy mess which was disappointing. Honestly my favorite chain restaurant. They have such yummy options. I'd recommend the Mustard Crusted Chicken Dinner (also come in bomb BLT form). The salads are also super tasty and I personally love to add crab cakes or steak tips to mine. Love the candied pecans that come on the Waldorf & Goat Cheese salads too. This location is by far the nicest and the wait staff is amazing. The hostess' are super sweet and accommodating and always give realistic wait times so you know what to expect. I also love that they have a cocktail waitress some weekends for people in the waiting area. All restaurants should do that. Also any time I've ordered to go there they always get everything right and best part is you get oil and bread with every order to go as well!! We used to live at Tara heights and would come here all the time when they first opened. The food was always great the drinks delicious. Upon returning after a few months the place has certainly gotten stingy. The happy hour prices increased while the choices minimized. What used to be a solid ahi tuna appetizer is now a mash of tuna and avocado covered in sauce thrown on a plate of chips. The mustard crusted chicken sliders used to be a solid chunk of chicken on each slider now it's a pounded down puny piece of chicken between a thin layer of breading. Do yourself a favor and order the buffalo mango tenders off the appetizer menu, they are the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The mustard crusted chicken is delicious and well liked by my whole family, portions are big enough to share on that particular dish in my opinion - especially if you get an appetizer and dessert. Drinks are usually good. Last visit was on cinco de mayo ( should have went to a Mexican restaurant, know) they made me the worst margarita ever! I sent it back to fix it. It came back drinkable but not good at all. I didn t want to complain again. It's terrible when you have to settle, as going out to eat is a treat and you pay a lot for drinks! I had salad so not to much to do with eating that meal but hubby did not enjoy his meal. I feel that we go here one time and enjoy it and the next time it's completely opposite. No consistency.
