We had made a reservation to try the caviar tapas, not expecting very much at all. The staff here had truly exceeded my expectations. In my party there were 6 of us, and the only server there seemed overwhelmed until another server, Damien, came to the rescue. The mood had immediately lightened up as he dropped off a couple bowls of truffle chips for us to snack on. Each of our tapas had come one by one. First was the caviar taramasalata, which is a creamy "fish roe" dip served with fresh vegetables. I was surprised at how good this was. Then the next thing was the signature baked potato. I came here just for this actually. Since there were 6 of us, they served the potato in slices. It was so delicious, that I actually couldn't stop thinking about this. To our surprise, Damien also came over with a round of vodka shots and bumps of caviar to chase with. He did this with each of the tapas dishes as they arrived, totaling 4 rounds lol. We also had ordered the classic toast with butter & caviar and the linguine al caviale. This squid ink pasta was just wow. Then, as if we didn't have enough of a treat already, Damien had us follow him to watch him sing opera and all I have to say was that it was amazing.

There was a bit of confusion to start when we arrived at Number One Caviar Boutique. We had made a prepaid reservation for lunch through Etsy which seemed to indicate a couple of options including Afternoon Tea or the Weekend Brunch featuring oysters. However, after we were seated we found out only the Weekend Brunch was being served which didn't work for us as we don't like oysters. They were able to quickly pivot though and offered us a brunch of caviar with the traditional accompaniments. This worked fine with us and we enjoyed the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As others have commented, it is a very small space with only four tables for two but they make it work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, a good experience for caviar fans.

The squid had an aftertaste, and we all had to spit out the beef. We could not break it down, way too chewy.

We were so excited to try the 10-course tasting menu last week. The service was great, but some of the courses were a little bit disappointing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, the cute, but extremely small, dining room is on the 1st floor, but the restrooms are on the third floor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]An employee has to swipe you through to take the elevators to the 3rd floor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I hope they open up a real restaurant in the near future, with a kitchen and restrooms.

5/19/2024 Sunday Spring Menu 6 course $225/pp Chef Daniel Arrived into nyc at 8:30am. on a red eye flight did not dampen my excitement going to my first meal at number one caviar that evening. I was looking forward to this meal since I booked the resy! It was a totally luxurious and delicious experience to have. Natasha who tended to us that evening was attentive and had good interaction with us through out our meal. Our meal was the newly updated spring tasting menu with 6 courses. Honestly I was disappointed I didn't get to try the fall/winter menu and worried the spring courses might not be par with the fall/winter menu. Also there were less courses and more expensive for the spring version comparing to the winter one. However, all was well and my worries disappeared as the meal progressed. Spring Tasting Menu: 1) Three Ways of Caviar 1a) Wagyu Tartare w/ Toast 1b) Osetra with mashed potatoes 1c) Pickled Oyster w/ Citrus Vinaigrette and Trout Roe 2) House-made Brioche Bread w/ Crème Fraîche Butter and Kaluga Special Reserve 3) Avocado scallop tartare and Siberian caviar 4) Turbot w/ Fresh Truffle, Scallops, Nori Mousse, Sturgeon Jus, Trout Roe and Ramp Oil Intermezzo: caviar bump / vodka shot 5) A5 Miyazaki Ribeye w/ Potato Gratin, Foie Gras Jus and Golden Osetra 6) Yuzu Cake, Madagascar Vanilla Gelato w/ Caramelized Hazelnuts, Dom Perignon Champagne Gel and Kaluga Gold All in all, fabulous meal and worth the experience.

I want to start off by thanking Damian for such a fun and entertaining evening! This was my first caviar tasting experience and I'm concerned no other will be able to top this experience. Let's start off with the ambiance. When you walk in you'll immediately feel conflicted by what you see, where it's both beautiful in decor which provides an elegant and high-class vibe, but it also feels very cramped due to its boutique nature. We definitely were caught off guard when we were told that we would be dining in that small space, but Damian, our beloved server, saw our hesitation and eased us with his charm and wittiness, which made us feel so comforted and warmed our hearts! Now the service. David, our chef, was very professional and dedicated his attention and effort into crafting each of our dish delicately. And Damian? Wow, if I have to use one person to portray what exemplary service looks like, it would be Damian. He had character and didn't sugarcoat things regarding what is etiquette and what is his personal taste/opinion; he was funny, witty, and profession at the same time; and he took into consideration our likes and dislikes, utilizing what he heard us talking about in governing the little considerate things he did for us to ease our anxiety and unease (I.e., opened a small bag of truffle chips we commented on to help us settle in). To be honest, the food was amazing and unique, with many unimaginable pairings that worked surprisingly perfect, but without Damian's lovely personality and charisma, we probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as we had! My personal favorite were the potato starters and the rich, creamy, and flavorful scallops! Thank you Damian, for easing our anxiety and making our dining experience so fun and enjoyable! Hope you liked our little origami and please continue being so perfect! Thank you for reading and best of luck! Please give them a try and I PROMISE you'll enjoy it, especially if Damian is taking care of you! (:

Caviar wishes and Champagne dreams! Had a wonderful time once again thanks to David's dishes of delight, each and every morsel was devoured with a smile from ear to ear. Ice cold Vodka shots with caviar bumps? Caviar on everything? Yes please! "I'll have what I'm having!"

Taste was EXCELLENT! But not enough for a meal--I dined alone, paid and did GrubHub when I got home. I ordered Mexican! The staff was friendly but the experience was poor---the spot is tiny and they encourage doing a Vodka shot with caviar. The problem I found with that, as a woman, was getting my lipstick/ makeup on my body. They need to think that part through...I dunno, it's only ok

Wow! Chef Daniel and staff were wonderful. We went to celebrate my boyfriends 30th and had a great time. Very intimate space with 4 hightop tables. Chef came to our table each time to describe the meal and just to chat with us. He was knowledgeable, passionate, and just an overall joy to talk with. The caviar and truffle selection is to die for and we cant wait to come back! His menu changes every few weeks. They were also VERY generous with the caviar portions! Even gave us a shot of vodka and a heaping caviar "bump" 12/10 must give it a try if you want to have an indulgent experience!

Went for a birthday celebration and we had an amazing experience. This is definitely one of those restaurants that you simply have to experience for yourself. The food, service and ambiance provided a holistic and welcoming atmosphere.

Small space but very nice, with refreshing decor

There's a wonderful selection here with very competitive prices. I like the kaluga and golden ossetra very much. They also have cheaper siberian and regular ossetra varieties. The staff are quite knowledgeable and can tell you about the different flavors of caviar and pairings. I find that many people are not aware that caviar is more affordable now than in decades past - if you buy at a good price here and bring some to a social gathering, it tends to make a big splash.

2 oysters, one with caviar and the other with salmon roe

I hardly ever leave reviews but I thought last nights experience was worth making an exception. I had seen Number One Caviar open up in my neighbourhood & as I am new to America, I decided to go on my own. Worth highlighting is that the space is not designed to mimic a luxury restaurant rather be an intimate dining experience showcasing caviar & fresh produce. As it was Memorial Day weekend there was one other couple there during my sitting (the experience only accommodates 6). This was nice as a solo diner as we soon all decided to split a bottle of wine and enjoy the experience together. Onto the food & drink: Upon arrival you are treated to a very generous glass of champagne, vodka shot & GENEROUS caviar bump which they continue to provide sporadically throughout the experience. The first course comprise of oysters served topped with caviar and salmon roe, delicious. The second course was house made potato latke/ pancake type things showcasing 3 different types of the caviar. At the end of this course the lovely server (who I'm so sorry I am very bad with names) asked which was our favourite. For all 3 of us this was Ossetra. This was then followed by house cured sashimi in lettuce cups topped with a salmon roe and a trout roe. The fourth course was crab in a creamy emulsion topped with poached egg and another generous serve of caviar. The next was my personal favourite, the scallop, roe & caviar in a Dom Perignon sauce. The fifth course was venison with another generous serve of caviar. Finally the dessert, I must admit I was sceptical but it was a tied winner for me along with the scallop. When paying the bill was a lovely surprise, we were each gifted a generous take-home portion of the Ossetra caviar we had highlighted as our favourite earlier in the meal as well as a caviar key to open it with. I personally commented that I loved the bill tray and they were kind enough to gift that as a surprise as well?!?! I have read the previous negative review and I cannot speak to their experience, however from my experience this has been one of my favourite dining experiences in the city this far. Both the chef and server were incredible, it was interactive & fun. I walked out well fed, happily buzzed and with two new friends. I will definitely be back. I would recommend this for couples, small groups or solo diners like me. Definitely big value for money.

I've been coming here for years, and the quality of the food continues to keep me coming back. During this visit, I ran into a recurring issue with my lobster. It was carrying a large amount of roe, which I was actually happy about because I enjoy it and didn't want any of it to go to waste. However, the roe deep inside wasn't fully cooked during the initial steaming process. I had to go back and forth with Ash and the kitchen staff several times, but they remained patient, attentive, and committed to making sure everything was cooked properly. Ash, one of the managers, provided excellent customer service throughout the experience. While I was waiting, he kindly offered me a complimentary cup of New England clam chowder, which was absolutely delicious and very much appreciated since I was starving. Before leaving, I also ordered two more 2 lb. steamed lobsters to go. I explained my concern, and the staff made sure they were thoroughly cooked before packaging them. Both were perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. I truly appreciate the team's dedication to customer satisfaction and their willingness to make things right. Their excellent service, combined with consistently great seafood, is why I've remained a loyal customer for years. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. Thank you!

I'm very particular about where my seafood comes from, so I did some digging and discovered Aqua Best. Steven, the owner, runs a family-focused operation, and the difference is clear: he and his team are exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. The market itself has a clean, inviting feel with no off-putting odor, which is a huge plus. Their staff genuinely knows their seafood and can answer questions with confidence. Aqua Best also supplies seafood to some of New York City's top fine-dining restaurants, which speaks to the quality and consistency you can expect. I decided to give them a try and left with Bronzino, Snapper, and Gulf Shrimp. All three were superb--fresh, well-prepared help in selecting portions, and clearly handled with care. If you're picky about seafood quality, provenance, and customer service, Aqua Best is worth a visit.

Tired of beef steaks, come get your fish steaks. The salmon looks great here. Everything looks great here. Walk in through the front doors and notice something? No fishy odor, just fresh fish. Let's cover the layout and ground rules. On your left, you have immediately the whole fish. Further back on your left, you have the fillets and steaks. All the usual suspects are here. All the way back on your left, you will find the various sized farm raised shrimp. Around that left corner, moving from left to right you will find the wild caught shrimp. In the middle at the back, is the register where you will eventually pay. Immediately below and in front of the register are the veggies: broccoli, carrots, corn, onions. To the right of the register in the back are the mussels, scallops, and clams. On the right as you walk in, there is one of the busiest counters with a guy steaming all your orders in a giant steamer behind the counter. Walk a little further toward the back on the right side is a guy who is busy frying fish and French fries, making fish sandwiches, and frying whatever whiting, catfish or shrimp you desire. Further back on your right toward the back is where you can obtain your crab legs and lobster. Given this was my first time, I am laying out the ground rules and procedures. Use the tongs everywhere to load your seafood in the steel bowls by the seafood on your left or in the middle of the store on a few tables. You take your bowl or bowls to the guy at the register in the back and pay for your items by weight and their various price rates. Most things are between $10-$20 per pound. Cash is King, but I believe they take Master and Visa, not American Express. Tell the guy how you want your seafood prepared: fried or steamed. He will slice your fillets and chop your corn, placing everything in a plastic basket if you want it steamed together or separately if you're going to fry certain things. He will give you a number for every basket and place the identical number in each basket for tracking. If you're frying, take that basket to the second station or counter on the right. If you're steaming, take your basket to the first station on your right as you enter. The guy at the steaming counter with liberally add the Old Bay, garlic and other seasonings to your seafood. If want low sodium, this is where you tell him to limit the salt. This is also in retrospect, when I would emphasize to the steaming guy not to overcook your seafood. Many of my people (African Americans) and from what I observe among the Latino community like everything cooked well: steaks medium well to well done, eggs scrambled hard, veggies cooked to death and seafood cooked well done. So this is the default expectation and the guy will steam to that degree. The cooking and steaming will continue on your way home, so I would in retrospect advise cutting the steam time by at least five minutes. Your shrimp will suffer the most from over steaming and this would likely apply to your lobster as well. Keep this is mind and let the guy at the steamer know you wish to limit the steam time. My overcooked shrimp is reflected in this rating, but there is more upside when I return. When the steaming is done or overdone, he will announce your number and bag your seafood. You can and should ask him to add laddles of melted butter to your bag of seafood. Tell him how many laddles of butter you want added to your bag(s). He will add more seasoning at this point as well if you ask him. He will twist the bag(s) closed and place them in a plastic container with rubber bands for the trip home. It's all so very delicious and I will return. Two fillets of catfish, two fillets of cod, about a dozen Tiger shrimp and at least a dozen large scallops with the veggies came to $71. I find this quite reasonable and it tastes so good. If you want your shrimp deveined, they have the ones with the shells taken off and deveined. Go home, crack a beer and devour! 3.8 stars!
