Well UPDATE... am now dealing with a slow growing bacteria infection!! This is exactly why I'm so hesitant to go to salons!! So itchy all around my cuticles and red and painful!! Manicurist on the phone the entire time she did my daughter's nails? My guy playing a computer game the entire time he did my nails? Yes, all around. It's been almost 3 years since I've discovered NY Nails and I still can't go anywhere else. My nails always turn out excellent and even when I take a long break from getting my acrylics done, they remember and I get a warm welcome. They do great 3-D Acrylics and always are mixing up new glitter acrylics to provide a unique style to your nails. They're the best in town and if you go anywhere else, you're definitely missing out! Phenomenal!!! I've been doing my nails for years now and this is by far the best place yet. This place does a great job with acrylics! They have all the colors imaginable of glitter - even the kinds with stars and hearts and stuff in it! All sorts of design tips like LV and Chanel and air brush designs.. Steve does amazing 3d designs with the white acrylic powder and it doesn't even fall off! He even mixes the glitter for more effects/designs etc. I hardly get the usual white anymore coz it's so much fun lol... My nails dont lift for weeks and they're perfect everytime. I came here a few times for my nails with Tony and it was always fine. The salon itself is a little dirty. The last time I went the owner Steve had to do my fill. He seemed really irritated the whole time and it was uncomfortable. Then, I asked if I could see the basket of nail art to choose one, and he said "no". The location is in kind of an obscure place - it is near the LA Fitness (but of course my damn GPS took me to the Home Depot) but after a call to the salon, I was able to make my appt on time. The pedicure was pretty standard and the tech took her time. My Shellac manicure is pretty good, but for $28 bucks and the HUGE selection of colors, it was well worth it. I got out of there for about $70 for Shellac mani/upgraded pedi/tip. Not amaziningly priced, but lower than most in the SCV - which is well worth a trip back in my book. read more

Okay soo.. I've been trying to make an appointment here for about 2 solid weeks now and was rescheduled and moved around 3-4 times in that time. A few minutes later she took me in and moved her client onto someone else(which I felt horrible about). After my hard gel overlay was complete she started my gel color (which I thought was included in the service) and started noticing wrinkling at the tips of my fingernails. I pointed it out to her and she fixed two of my nails but left the rest as they were(wasn't very pleased with that, mind you these are my birthday nails). So it was time to pay and I nearly fell to my knees at the price.. $60!!! The nail service i thought included gel polish, but no! So long story short I left out the names of the people who assisted me because my intention isn't to make anyone look bad, but to bring attention to the customer service. Went to this salon on a Thursday, got a gel manicure with Tina with one rhinestone on each of my ring fingers. One stone fell off on Sunday, got it fixed no charge on Tuesday. Leaving my mom's house on Tuesday night, and the stone on the other hand is gone. Not worth another trip to the salon for a second replacement. I try to support local businesses and so I was a walk in here - I told them to just let me know if they didn't have time for a mani/pedi though and no problem. I had to have old gel removed and then wanted fingers and toes cleaned up and re-manicured/pedicured with just regular polish this time. This is the worst mani/pedi I think I have ever paid for. I can do better myself. She removed most but not all of my gel and then just slopped two coats of polish back over it. She barely trimmed my cuticles (I came home and cleaned it up with my own) and there was no effort made to make sure my polish stayed on for even a day. The cost was $40 and I still gave a $50 for the added tip because despite all this, I felt bad. Needless to say, I won't be going back though bc this was the biggest waste of money for a mani/pedi that looks like my niece did. What a horrable place I went to get acrylic overlay with French polish only 2 people in the place had to wait 35 minutes then the man that did them stabbed me under my nail bed. They knew all their clients on a first name basis which is always a nice personal touch. They did an excellent job, my nails are symmetrical and they did not make me bleed around the cuticles. I'd been wanting to try a gel manicure for awhile, and after trolling Yelp, checking out other salon websites, and asking friends for recommendations, I got wind of N Y Salon and Spa . . . and I'm so happy! I had my first appointment with Tina and she did a full manicure plus gel nail polish ($34). My manicure was complete, Tina was friendly and professional, and the entire atmosphere at the salon was super friendly (and CLEAN). My gel nail polish lasted over two weeks and looked as fresh as the minute I left the salon. Of course, now I'm hooked and have to go back every two weeks for a new manicure (polish only is $20). They have about 30-40 gel nail polish options to choose from, so you won't be stuck with only a handful of colors like other salons (NY uses Gellish brand polish if you're wondering). While I have no experience with getting acrylics from there, I've seen their work on their Facebook page and I have been blown away. NY Salon and Spa is a MUST in the SCV. Quick tip: While you can pay for your services with credit cards, they only accept tips in cash, so bring some bills because you'll want to tip these awesome staff members! read more
