I absolutely love not only the coffee here but Nyla the absolute joy to talk to. I am a massive coffee snob, so it takes a lot to get hooked and change where I get my coffee fix. My husband recommended her venue, and once I did, I was hooked. Her prices may be a wee bit higher, but I would rather give my money to a locally owned business rather than a large corporation. Her pastries are made by her from scratch, not frozen, as are some that are delivered and kept until sold. Nyla is A+, and my family & I always put off gether our coffee until we are closer to her shop. It is hard for Mum & Pop business to compete with Starbucks & Doutch Brothers, but for my money, there is absolutely no contest. Nylas Coffee & Espresso shop is the best. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. From the start, we should have just drove off. The man working refused to pour cream into my drink, as he stated "it was too complicated and messes things up". Then as I received my drink he asked me to check it, right as I looked at the drink- I saw an ant . I asked him to remake the drink. He quickly started looking for the ant, then scooped out the ant. To my surprise, he then grabbed a strainer and poured the SAME drink into a new cup. I told him that I didn't want that drink and would like my money back, he seemed shocked that I saw what he did and then proceeded to tell us "no, that's not how we do things here" he also told us to "f**k off". Do yourself a favor and skip this place. This was, without a doubt, one of the most bizarre customer service experiences I've ever had. I ordered an iced Americano and was immediately met with frustration because they didn't have any ice. No problem--I politely changed my order to a regular Americano. I then asked about a few food items, and every question seemed to make the owner more irritated. Nearly everything I asked for was unavailable, and instead of simply explaining that, he acted annoyed that I was asking. When it was time to pay, things got much worse. The owner yelled at me to get out of my car and move closer to him. At that point, I calmly said I would just go somewhere else instead. His response was to scream, "Yeah, good job, you bitch." I've never been spoken to like that by a business owner. It was shocking, completely unprofessional, and created an incredibly hostile environment. The first time stopping here on our way back from Newport drove up and a gentleman at the window acted like it was a lot of work to even say hello. I asked him if he had a coffee special he abruptly said no! So I made an order for a simple coffee with three shots in it and he asked me for $8.75! Came here last minute because we accidentally passed a previous coffee shop we meant to go to. The place is ugly and run down, all these reviews about the old man working there are correct he is rude and looks offended that you dared to give him business. Desperate to find a drive thru open on a Sunday we excitedly pulled in. The light said open but it looked a bit in disarray like someone lived there. I actually felt a little like I was in a 3rd world re cleanliness, but hey I've had some great food/drinks in 3rd world countries. I was up for the adventure. No one came to the window so I rang a bell. No greeting just a blank stare with the window barley cracked. I jokingly acted like I couldn't talk and he said cold air so I said that's ok I'll try somewhere else and he opened another 1/4 of an inch and yelled what's wrong? Ok now it was awkward. I asked if he had oat milk and acted dismissive and slightly grunted. I took that as a yes. Then I asked if he cinnamon syrup and he threw he has hands at me to tell me to leave. So leave I did and advise you to as well. How rude. After reading the other comments I am very surprised , they are still in business as well. I told myself I would go in with an open mind. My mother and I arrived and viewed the price-less menu. After asking, a bagel cost $4.50. The guy inside perhaps intending to be funny but came across as crass when asked if he toasted them. He asked for our order and about 7 minutes after, we realized he was making someone else's order that arrived after us (there are two windows to order from). He had to ask us again what our order was. THEY DO NOT CARRY SUGAR FREE SYRUP. Our total came to just under $20 for 3 drinks (there was a customer in front of us who paid $7.75 for his one drink!). For reference: we get the same exact drinks for about $6 less right down the street. When handing him the $20 bill he thanked us, moved away from the window and began helping another customer. HE DID NOT GIVE US OUR CHANGE and DID NOT provide a receipt. The coffee itself was not good - tasting (way too much syrup?). First things first, if you're reading this prior to stopping, take my advice and keep driving. We asked if the man had sugar-free syrup, and he said they all are sugar-free, which I know is not true. We asked if they had skim milk or alternative milks as in almond or oat. He says yes, very expensive, so we reply, "That's ok.". We asked for a 32 oz iced he replies only have 20 oz then rudly tells us " You not happy go down the road and get coffee", then he shuts the window. This is one of the worst coffee places I have ever seen. There was no prices on the menu. The person who works there is rude. I tried to order a blended chai tea he and he didn't even know how to make it. He pulled out a container of chai tea mix that is made for blended drinks, that looks like it's at least a few years old, and he was going to make a hot chai tea with it. When I asked him if he could steam the milk to 100° he did not know how to do that, and I left. My wife said she wanted Venti, The East Indian coffee cart owner with a heavy accent, snapped at us for using venti "don't use that Italian shit, we are in America". The Caramel Macchiato was good but a tad too sweet. The low rating has more to do with their prices than the quality of the drink. Their largest size was equal to a Grande from Starbucks. It was an odd and steep price, I asked if that was the price he charged every customer for a medium latte (process are not posted on the menu board). He became very angry and shouted that if I didn't like the price I shouldn't have stopped there. Rather than argue with a lunatic, I patiently waited as he still ran my card and put the lid on my drink. He then handed my card back to me and slammed the window. I waited. And waited. I rolled up and could tell it wasn't clean inside so I just ordered a drip coffee which was $3.75!! I can barely get myself to pay that much for a latte, that's insanely expensive. And it was horrible coffee. I also immediately noticed the heavy cream he put in my coffee had been sitting out on the counter. Lastly, he got annoyed that all I had was a credit card and used a tissue to have me hold the card reader that I was gonna sign with my finger anyway (bleach wipes are perfectly fine for cleaning stuff instead) and then I had to take the tissue with me.
