Slowest customer service ever. Came to do a SMOG check. Waited 5-6 mins before someone came to the office and assist me. Told to pull my car up to the section where an older man took my paperwork. I should have been In n out in 15-20 mins tops. But the employee decided to stop with my inspection to help another customer about his car for 15 mins before he finally returned to finish my inspection. Very annoying and poor customer service. Get more help please or finish one customer before helping someone else read more

I called for a quote , and confirmed this quote 3 separate times before bringing my car in , and took meticulous notes with the price breakdown they provided 3 times. Day comes for me to drop off my car , and they call to try and tack on an extra $260 for a part , a part they confirmed with me 3 times I would not be paying for, just pay the taxes on the part. And then argued with me claiming they never gave me that quote. So screw this place , waste of time and they don't honor their word. read more

Ladies Don't go here unless you have money to waste! I went in hoping to fix my A/C, the diagnostic was $59. Nasar...the owner gradually charged me for unnecessary repairs. He said a plug needs to be replaced, that would be $25, then he mentioned he would need to cast an oil dye to find the issue & add Freon $40. He charged me for the dye & Freon but he didn't put it in. He also charged me for the waste fee! When I was told the AC cannot be fixed I asked him to take out the $25 plug it was unnecessary, which he did! He was Mumbling that he can no longer use it. My total bill was $110, all for nothing! As I drove off I realized, he never ran the dye or Freon through my AC! He just attached the plugs from the diagnostic machine. I noticed my car had no leaks from the Freon! Hours later, I called Nasar to confront the issue that he never added the Freon or dye 'cause there's no leaks...he Blatantly denied everything! Is there an Honest Mechanic? read more

This one star is due to a safety issue I recently had with them. I was not a customer but I was delivering an order for them on Uber Eats, and as others may know we have to deliver quicjly and go to make money. However, they wouldn't stop calling me "sweetie" and kept trying to keep me inside their office and making me uncomfortable. One of the older men kept trying to say hello to me, eventually yelling it out to get my attention. Once I glanced at him, he winked at me. If you're a woman please just be careful. read more

My wife encountered some sexists workers here when making a food delivery. Mechanics who kept demeaning her by calling her "sweetie" and trying to get her to stay there and talk to her. One man even went out of his way to get her attention just to wink at her. Very upset to hear about this and wish they were more professional. Maybe they don't do this to customers or hide it but this is how they can be to people who are not customers I guess. read more

Well I brought my Honda Accord in because the A/C was not cold all of a sudden. They called right before closing to tell me the car was ready. Said they added freon and dye to check for leaks . Charged me $100. Car is still blowing warm air. Not cold at all so that was a wasted $100. I was without a car (I drive for Lyft) all afternoon and made no money. I don't know about y'all but I can't afford to just wipe my ass with $100 bills. I have to work my ass off for $100. Most people around here have more money than god but I ain't one of them so I get a little pissed when I pay for something that doesn't fix the problem. I will update after I speak to them tomorrow. 5/13/2021 - update - Talked to them this morning. Looks like compressor clutch not engaging is the problem. Wanted me to bring it back in tomorrow. Went home, googled the problem, tested my a/c relay and found infinite resistance after applying power to the control circuit. Bought a new relay at Oreilly's for $8 and I'm moving on with my life. I'll add a star for the guy taking the time out to actually look at the issue with me this morning and another star that he noticed the clutch was not engaging and told me so. I appreciate that even if I spent $100 to not fix the problem, at least I got pointed in the right direction so that i was able to fix myself. May try this place again at some future date. read more

I won't be coming back here again. I bought a "two oil change" Groupon in May. My first appointment in May went real well, it was a standard oil change and i walked out paying the standard $5.00 disposal fee. Upon walking in to my second appointment (which I made a week in advance), Mitch immediately tells me that my Groupon is expired. I pulled out the Groupon app to prove that it wasn't expired. He then tells me that it was supposed to be used on 2 Different cars. I read all of the terms and it doesn't specify anywhere that it has to be two different cars. I even asked before leaving the shop where it was specified, but I wasn't given a response. He said he would take $14.00 off of the oil change instead, which really didn't make sense to me but i signed the paperwork and let them do the change. A few minutes into sitting outside he came out to show me that my oil drain plug is rounded, and that he will need to replace it for $15. When I asked why his mechanics didn't point this out to me last time since they are the only shop that has changed my oil, he responded real quick that it was due to my car having 150k miles. He did end up taking $5 off the part because he said he got it cheaper then expected. I walked out spending right around $25. I got home to find that they put the wrong oil viscosity in my engine. They didn't honor my groupon, either rounded my drain plug or didn't tell me that it would need replaced last time, and put the wrong oil type in. I would have been better off going somewhere else. read more

I took my car here to have a smog check after about 2,000 dollars in repairs at another shop. My mechanic put his computer on my car and told me the computer had been reset and it was good to take to get a smog check. The guy in the front office of here told me I needed to drive my car around because the computer hasn't reset yet. I was confused but followers his advice. I drove it for over an hour and took it back to my mechanic and took a photo of his computer. It clearly indicated all of the computer checks showed "OK". So I took it back here a second time for the smog check. I was told the same exact thing again. When I looked at his computer and talks to him, he admitted that he just didn't want to do the smog check because my car had failed the smog check previously, before having it repaired. He said, "I don't want my stars to go down". In our conversation he admitted that the car does pass all of the states requirements for a smog check. He was evidently making his own rules to protect "his star" rating. He's a difficult, stubborn man who doesn't follow the rules set by they am state. In my opinion, people who conduct business like this guy shouldn't be in business. read more

First few times coming here I revived awesome service plus cheap oil changes. Then on my 3rd time, a gentleman that I had not seen before told me that my car only takes synthetic oil and it would cost 30 dollars more!!!! (Despite me being there 3 times and them having no problem before) Then he told me I would need all new tires and new breaks. And that a line was leaking So I took it over to my uncles who own a body shop (I don't do my oil changes there because they won't take my money and it takes up too much of their time) and they told me that I only need two tires, and that my breaks are fine. It seems the only honest thing they told me is that a line was leaking in my car. Won't be coming back here any more. read more

Been going to O'Connells for years now- oil changes usually cuz they are cheapest around & quick! Much better than the EZLube guys that forget to put your radiator cap back on after checking fluids!! Dan is an honest guy- he tells you what you need and doesnt pressure you to get it done- but reminds you that you can only go so long before HAVING to do it. Sorry to hear any negaitive comments- I think those are rare happenings. O'Connells is a small 3 bay auto shop- they are busy all the time- give the guys a break, he only has a couple of mechanics and so much room to work. Best time to get in is first thing in the morning! My opinion is that if you are lucky enough to have an honest mechanic like Dan- stick with him! He's busy for a reason- he's good! O'Connell's has been down the street from my house for many years. My car was overdue for a transmission service and I happened to find a coupon for O'Connell's at a local gas station. I used to do my own maint. and repairs, but my busy life won't allow it too often. The guys there did a great job and had my car done quite fast. They test drove it before and after to ensure there weren't any issues after completing the service. Oil changes are a great deal and they offer much more than just that. Paul is quite a character and I always enjoy taking my car there. I will continue to take my car here for needed maint. and repairs. read more

Bad place to bring your car. they wont take responsibility for causing my "VSC" light to come on just after I drove 2 feet after they smogged it. This light has NEVER been on. I took it to the dealership & they said it was a faulty OBD hand tool that caused the VSC to malfunction. It's a $130 repair caused by O' Connell's. You have better choices out there... Shame on them for NOT taking responsibility or repairing their wrong doing. read more

I am a big Facebook fan, and was pleased to get a friend request from O'Connells Automotive yesterday. It came attached w/an offer for a $5 oil change (which is a two day promotion the owner is running). I drove up this morning to the corner of Gothard and Slater in Huntington Beach, and pulled my car in their crowded parking lot. I was directed to the office where I met Dan, the new owner of O'Connells. I needed my brakes replaced, so I asked him if they could look at those as well. Even though they were very busy, Dan kept me in the loop and I was pleased that they "threw in" a free tire rotation w/the oil change....wow. Very nice. I ended up getting my brakes done, and received a very fair price. I was very pleased with the interaction, and will recommend O'Connells to friends in the greater Huntington Beach area who need brakes, tires, oil changes, transmissions and other auto repairs. read more

Well, long story short... I was convinced they gave me the wrong car back!!! I had my 1990 Toyota 4Runner in there a few months back. The main problem I was having with my car is it would not pass smog. I had some other work done to it a few months prior and knew the repairs were coming. My engine had many things going wrong with it. Timing belt, tensioners, pulleys, bearings, seals, head gasket, valves, hoses, etc... The fix took a bit longer than expected but everytime we dug further into the engine there was just something else going on. And YES I was in the loop throughout the repair process and even got to see the broken parts. The Manager cpntacted me everyday letting me know the status and even when the boss was gone on vacation, the manager on duty called me. This was not the first trip there... I had them re-build the carb on my Suzuki Samurai about six months before. My car runs better than it ever has, like new!! This is a family auto shop. Basically the sons work for their dad Dan. I trieda few times. At the beginning, things worked out. So I decided to stay with them. For a short while, I was actually happy to find this place . Then things really became weird after the first a few times. The owner Dan suggested a long list of over $1,000 repair which later on was proved by several other auto shops as unnecessary. He played the same trick on other folks a young guy and an old guy waiting in the lobby for oil changes. The oil changes took extremely long, while really, there were technicians (his sons) were not busy. The car was parked in the bay. They seemed to be tampering the car, but not doing anything with oil change. After waiting for more than 1 hour, I started to ask them whether they were done with my car. Only at that time, his son started to do the oild change. And it only took him around 10 to 15 minutes or so. After that, his father Dan started to suggest things, which he did not even get a chance to look at. Poor business practice. Avoid this place by all means. read more

I made an account to review this place. Do NOT go here!!! I had my car fixed by a mechanic down the street. After resetting the check engine light and having my regular mechanic verify that I would pass the smog, I took my car to this place for the smog check because he went down on the price. He comes back and it doesn't pass, and the check engine light is back on even though it's been off for weeks. He says it's something about some valve so I go back to my mechanic who is shocked it didn't pass. After looking at the paperwork- which he says was complete baloney- and examining my car, my mechanic found that this place messed up the valve- which was fine before- so that I would pay him for more repairs. So my mechanic calls O'Connell's about 10 times, who doesn't answer because he sees the caller ID. Finally, I call from my phone, and he pretends to not know who I am even though I was there 10 minutes ago. I get my mechanic to talk to him, who calls him out on what he did, and the guy was extremely rude, saying that my mechanic didn't know anything (40+ years of experience), and he even said "F- you" to my mechanic. I went back to O'Connell's, AND HE WAS IN HIS CAR TRYING TO LEAVE even though they were not closed yet! Made it just in time, yelled at him, and thankfully he gave me my $30 back. So disgusting to see people so dishonest and trying to take advantage of people like me (a college-aged girl). Cost me a lot of extra time and money because I have to reset the light! Planning to take it up with Better Business Bureau because he doesn't deserve to be in business. read more

They screw you on your repairs and are painfully slow. I needed to get my brake light switch replaced due to the wires fraying and causing the car to not disengage the transmission from "park". They charged me to replace it, yet all that they did was tape up the broken switch. Literally tape it up. Lasted two months, cost me $100.00 and I have the "replaced" part to prove it in case the Bureau of Automotive Repair needs it for their investigation. I also have documented proof of two other "repairs" they completed for me that needed to be fixed by competent mechanics a short while later. Remember...a "deal" is not always a deal and you get what you pay for. read more

I have been coming here for 15 years. Always quick in and out service. Sign out front says $ 39.00. I get my Gmc diesel smogged which is a joke in the first place, and they charge me an extra $10.00. After the test I ask why, the extra fee and they say because it's a diesel. The smog for a diesel is only a visual and nothing else. I hope the $10 was worth it. I'm out. read more

I use to go here for oil changes, until I watched the mechanic climb into my truck and slam the door against the lift putting two dents in my brand new truck. I showed the manager how the dents lined up perfectly with thier lift and he told me there was nothing he could do because the mechanic said he didn't do it. We have gone to O'Connell's Complete Auto Care for service on my 2008 Rav 4 for heating problems . They found the root of the problem and replaced the radiator. The service was amazing!! The mechanics checked the entire car and they did an excellent job. I recommend them to everybody, great service with a friendly staff. We are very satisfied with the service. read more

I trust these guys...but they take FOREVER. Because their hours are so limited and I work 9-5 5 days a week, the only time I can ever come in is on my lunch break. I'll call ahead to ask if they will be able to squeeze me in and they'll say yes, I'll take an extra long lunch break to get over here and back, and then will be late getting back to work! I guess I shouldn't expect much more for a $15 +tax oil change, but hey, you get what you pay for. And why not wait if you're saving 20 bucks? But still, I've waited upwards of 2.5 hours for my car before. My main complaint is that I'm constantly waiting forever and ever for my car, but there's one of the guys who works there sitting in the lobby with me playing portable solitaire while no one is even working on it! he goes out once in a while to work every 20 minutes or so but comes back to sit and play his game way more often. It's unprofessional and bothers me, probably a little too much. Main problem is that last time I came here for an oil change, they forgot to turn off my service light. They had already taken over 2 hours to do the oil change and I was SO late getting back to work, I had to leave without them doing it. I don't have a lot of time, so it took me about 2 months to make it back in so they could turn it off, but even though i called the day before and told them when I'd be in, they still took the time to look up "how to do it" when I dropped the car off. I told them I only had 30 mins because i was getting surgery, and they took 20 to even touch the car. When I told them I had to leave in 5 minutes to make it to the dr. they said 'come back tomorrow' which of course I couldn't because I was having surgery! Now my light is still on which sucks because selling my car is hard when the people test driving it don't believe why, and I have to find another mechanic who knows how to do it which takes up tons of time. I would have given them 4 stars but this definitely drops it to 3. They did, however, look over a used car I was buying for me to make sure it was in good condition, and helped me when my old car was ready to poop out on me. I really appreciated the great customer service, which is why I come back here. The guys who work here really are very nice. read more
