The coffee was ok, not bad, but to my taste, there are better options close by. Also, not impressed with the Service here (looking at other reviews, perhaps it was an off-day). I was in a bit of a hurry, but they seemed to be taking their time, both in taking orders and actually making the coffee. Call it a pet peeve of mine, but when a customer comes up to the counter and the barista just stares at you, says nothing, and waits for you to speak first with your order...it leaves a bad impression with me, almost outright rude. I come here for the sandwiches and pastries. The classic breakfast sandwich is awesome, especially if you ask them to make it on a croissant. I take it for lunch sometimes. The Chang Mi is a great take on a bang mi, very flavorful. The croissants are from Balthazar I believe. Very good. read more

Small, no indoor dining only outdoor dining. Honestly I've lived around the block for 8 years and have never tried this out so I was excited. Service was friendly but it was quite a long wait for the little amount of people in store. Before entering we had already scoped out what we were planning on getting but when we got there they were out of everything we wanted... Kinda disappointing considering it's Labor Day and restaurants should always anticipate an upwards amount of people on holidays. Maybe prep more food? They have chobani yogurt inside and dip and dots which was a good sight. About a ten minute wait for food with one more person in front of us... only 4 tables outside so most of the people will have to carry away orders, thankfully Hamilton park is right next to this location. We live a good 15-20 min walk from here, but their iced chai tea latte is the best we've found so far! Well worth the walk there and back! (We should be walking anyway!) They have good pastries and a great menu too. But hands down our favorite coffee and chai tea! read more

This place changed hands, and the food and drinks have gone way downhill since then. It literally seemed to happen overnight. One week I was enjoying the food and the next week everything was very low quality. However, the worst part is that it is starting to feel very dirty. They added a lot of dried flowers and wooden ducks on the counter that are just dusty clutter, and they have a greasy pile of bound photographs for each item on the menu (whhhhyyyy?). I have been going to this place since the original ownership. Ive always thought that atmosphere matters with environment enhancement. The menu is noticeably improved. YAY! O Kafe took over the space from Smith and Chang as of mid-November from what I read on Instagram. I came in on Sunday 11/25/18 since the Van Hook Outpost was unfortunately closed for the season next door. O Kafe was right there so figured my fiancé and I would give it a try. It's a super cute coffee shop with baked goods, acai bowls, salads, and sandwiches. I didn't try the coffee, but would love to try one next time with an acai bowl. I went with the chang mi sandwich (chicken, cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro, spicy mayo), which was average. There was too much cilantro and the chicken was a cold cut version (was expecting fresh pulled chicken for a vietnamese sandwich). The sandwich was served with bbq chips on the side, but wish there was a simple side salad instead. My fiancé ordered a pulled pork grilled cheese, but one of the baristas said they were out of pulled pork. Another one said someone went to the store and they could make it. This was a bit confusing, but I guess just a misunderstanding since he got the pulled pork grilled cheese. The grilled cheese name was misleading since it was more of a ham sandwich with some cheese and a little pulled pork. He said the sandwich was just okay and wouldn't order it again. Would love to see a few other salads or a grain bowl with a poached egg on the menu. A few donuts wouldn't hurt either! Would definitely try some of the breakfast items or coffee when in the Hamilton Park area. read more

I tried to order a decaf coffee (don't judge me, it was in the afternoon) and they don't serve it (ok no big deal, I get it, it's not popular). They do have & offered me instead a decaf americano (not the same but appreciate the attempt). So I then ask for a pour over which is explicitly listed on their large menu to which I was told they don't do those anymore. (Now I'm annoyed.) Ended up with a matcha latte. Service was good but the menu needs to be sorted out. Remove the item from the menu before you stop serving it. read more

Needs improvements. I'm giving it two stars for now. I loved Smith and Chang. But even their quality of baked goods were starting to fail. Rumor has it that they were now getting their pastries from Fresh Direct. I don't see any change with O Kafe. And while I appreciate gluten free options, those seem to be the majority of options and are just not my thing. Coffee is OK. Not hopeful that it will turn around. read more

This place has so much potential, but is a disaster. The location is great, the decor is ok, the food is average - and the staff seem perpetually surprised that they're running a cafe. While I could go on about the sub-par coffee, it's the service that prompted this review. If there are even 3 people in line, you're guaranteed a 25 min wait. There is no hustle, no urgency, no effort to keep things moving. And it's not just once or twice, on crazy days. It's every single time, even when they don't seem that busy. Not sure if they're understaffed or of the staff they have just don't care. But it's bad. Hope they get some competition in the Hamilton Park neighborhood. read more

Overall everything is above average. May need to increase portion size a bit. I'm mainly posting this though because I just noticed they made some much needed price adjustments! I was previously paying close to 6 dollars for an iced coffee with almond milk which is more expensive than the best coffee shops in the city.
