As you can see from my previous review, I've had better experiences. I ordered earlier today and when I received the order, it was completely wrong. It was obvious that there was a mixup. The mistake isn't what annoyed me, because again, it was a mistake. What annoyed me was the lady on the phone told me that it was "grub hubs fault". The attached receipt was correct but the contents belonged to someone else. I ordered the shrimp and steak chaufa and instead i received a chicken and rice with sweet plantains. It's totally impossible that it was grubhubs fault because grub hub doesn't pack the order together, they just simply grab the bag and go about their way. She kept insisting the above. Just own up to your mistake and not deflect the responsibility on someone else. Just straight up lied instead of saying she was rushing snd confused the orders. Horrible. Was late to work and everything. What a waste of time and I will never order from here again. read more

Let me start by saying this is my THIRD and last visit. I originally visit this spot when they opened and then I came back last year. This is my first time OVER a year. First of all, the girl at the counter is talking to her boyfriend so damm much she has the phone busy for over 30 minutes. How do I know? She promised to call me when it was ready, I kept calling to see if it was and for 30 minutes the phone was BUSY because they don't have call waiting. When I walked in, she stopped talking and hang up the phone, probably she saw it in my face i was furious. PRICES ARE RIDICULOUS!! Waaaayy over priced for the little amount they give you. Chaufa - which it was only rice and chicken (REAL chaufa has peppers, fried scrambled eggs, green onions) for $8, FIVE TOSTONES for $2.5, and 3 pieces of chicken breast with two pieces of peppers over half a cup of yellow rice and one tablespoon of black beans for $5 I feel insulted. They are VERY quick to close the bag for you and stapled it so you don't see the inside but I paid $17.5 plus tax for something that should had cost $10. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO A BETTER PLACE. I remembered O'Lala from the downtown festival this fall so I went with it. Delivery took about 90 mins but I'm 2 miles away and they notified me they were busy so I'm not griping about the wait. I am griping about the vegetarian empanadas. There was not much filling in all three, and I was left wishing I still lived in Queens*. Spinach and cream cheese was not very good and could have used a lot more spinach. Three cheese was very greasy and not very good. The best was the Mac and cheese, which was good and had enough filling not to be overly greasy. Second gripe was I requested all green sauces and received all pink sauces. I even paid extra for different green sauces that were not sent. My dude ordered the Cajun, chicken, and the Cuban. He loved the chicken, but wasn't a fan of the others. I ordered a side of rice that was good and the guava desert empanada that was only ok. Prices are good, and I think this place would probably be fine for a meat eater, but the vegetarian offerings are two star. * I hated living in Queens. read more

I called in the day before to place an order to be picked up the next day at 12pm - I was leaving town so it was important for me to be able to pick them up as early as possible. They open at noon and I was assured that my order would be ready then, and so they were. My empanadas were freshly made and neatly packed inside an aluminum tray, and individually wrapped with the flavor written on each. They were a hit! All of them were really, really good. Excellent! Excellent!! Excellent!!! The dough of the empanadas is EVERYTHING! I believe you could put shoe leather in that dough and it'd still taste fantastic! I had the much recommended mac and cheese empanada and it was just as everyone said it would be: fabulous! I also had the beef which was juicy and flavorful. And I had the Mardi Gras empanada which was also quite flavorful & had a wonderful kick to it but it was kind of dry. I recommend using thigh meat instead. The sauces were equally as yummy as the empanadas! I LOVE the chipotle sauce. It's my favorite! The staff is wonderful! I was impressed with the two young guys at the front counter as they were friendly & knowledgeable and genuinely seemed vested in their place of employment. From the amazing food to service, I'm so thankful to have found this little gem in the neighborhood. I grew up in Queens and was used to my spots out there and was hesitant at first to try out the unknown. I had called in for a mixed order of empanadas and pastelon and the customer service was impeccable. I was called when my order was ready (I was sitting in my vehicle with my newborn) and was assisted back to my car with my order. Love the small personal touches on the packaging too! PRO TIP - order ahead for pickup on Seamless and completely disregard the auto-generated 1hr estimated wait time it spits out; your order should be ready in ~10min depending on how busy they are. Happy National Empanada Day! It would have been if they honored the Yelp check in offer for a free cheesecake heaven empanada. Placed an order for take out. It was an hour wait. I ordered a variety of 9 different empanadas. They were all yummy but the chicken and the americano were my favorites. Each empanada wrapper was labeled with chicken scratch of what was inside. Unfortunately, several were labeled incorrectly so the first bite was a always guessing game. The staff doesn't seem to be too efficient, more concerned on what video is playing than clearing tables of empty soda cans and crumb littered tables. The long wait gave me a clear view of the lack of supervision. The TV is located behind the counter for the employees viewing pleasure and very difficult angle for dining tables to view. My first time here was when they first opened in 2014. I checked in back then and left a good note for them under my check in status. I even wrote how exceptional their customer service was. I was shocked when i showed them the check in promo for a free cheesecake empanada. The gentleman who seemed to be in charge stared and scrutinized the promo and seemed relieved when he found a loop hole. He then stated that i have to order an entree for the promo to be valid. He scoffed as he told me 9 empanadas do NOT count as an entree. I understand the loop hole but really??? Kudos to the wonderful customer service. The food is good, but the delivery is ridiculous! I always order for pick up and I usually get it on time. If you really want food from here, I highly recommend you picking it up yourself. You'll be waiting an hour or more! I absolutely love the Aztec empanada. Eat with caution though! It gets watery from the shrimp and can burn you. The chicken empanada is good as well. I love love love this place. So me and my partner drove 45 mim here. I love empanadas so i was so excited to try this place and it was our anniversary. Arriving we sat at the counter since the booths were full. The black girl was very nice since she knew it was our first time there. She explained the menu thoroughly and gave us recommendations. The owner or manager i believe gave is samples of coquitos which was really good. I ordered one of the value meals that came with 2 traditional empanadas a side and a drink. I got a chicken and beef empanada with tostones. My partner got the grilled chicken with rice and beans with a coquito. Let me tell you the food was delicious and came out in a decent amount of time even though they had a lot of call in orders. I then ordered 2 dessert empanadas, the cheesecake and brownie explosion. They were amazing! I even ordered another value meal to go. Another lady who i believe was the manager also asked me how i heard of the place and i told her yelp. She told me that if i checked in i could redeem a free cheese cake empanada, SO OF COURSE I DID. They even gave us 2 free empanadas, a Philly and a teriyaki one. I will come to this place again. Food delivery in Jersey City is extremely slow to begin with, so we expected the delivery to take an hour. Estimate given was 60-75 minutes. Food arrived in 100 minutes. Order was also incorrect: One of the drinks we ordered was missing, and the sauces were all completely wrong. We ordered creamy avocado, salsa verde, chimi, and chipotle; only the chipotle was there, along with about 7 other sauces, which seemed to taste like thousand island and ranch. Finally got a chance to try it this place. I work really close this place, dangerous right because the empanadas are really good.. I wanted to different flavors so I ordered a bell peppers and onions, pizza flavor , the greek and also a guava cheese! All the flavors were spot on. I really liked the greek and garden of Eden - one with peppers n onions. The dessert ones are truly amazing! So good.. I placed my order online and picked it up, it was ready by the time I was there. They tasted fresh and were hot. Each comes with a sauce, luckily I tried all three of them. They also have few seatings. I am going to try some other items too. Anytime you order their empanadas, definitely get the Garlic Aioli sauce...A-Mazing and goes with almost all empanadas that aren't dessert! Really adds some more flavor on top of flavor. Speaking of dessert, they're all GOOD, but sweet so be warned. They also offer (virgin) Coquito and it tastes really good! they even use coconut shavings. You can order it from them and then add your own rum if you like. The customer service is also worth mentioning. Everyone is always so nice anytime I come here, and over the phone too. The restaurant has a great seating area but parking can be a bit of a challenge. O'LaLa Empanadas hasn't let me down thus far! I really liked the empanadas. We ordered a variety to try and they were very good. I liked the El Coqui and La Havana best. We didn't care for the grilled chicken, which was dry. Chicken breast over rice is not very exciting. I was hoping for something with a little more flavor, but the dryness ruined it for me. The side of sweet plantains was also yummy. When we picked up we were told to download the app and order direct from them, but the app didn't work well when we tried. Also, despite being told that they deliver to Bayonne, they don't deliver past Country Village at City Line. I came here a few days ago, the lady upfront was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was our first time there and she explained the menu to us and even made some recommendations. We went for the empanadas. I ordered 4 chicken, 1 pork and sweet plantain (wow, delicious!) and we got a free dessert empanada for checking in! I also try the aioli and ketchup mayo sauce which was good, the ramekins are not practical. They are long instead of wide which makes it hard to dip. We had a craving for Empanadas, and I was in the area (and in a car) when I found this gem on Yelp. Since we were in a bit of a rush, I pre-ordered when we were about 7 mins away. I believe it...these empanadas are PRETTY AWESOME. One of my favorite dishes is the arroz chaufa, which is like this Latin American/Chinese fried rice that they put chicken, steak, or shrimp. I usually get the combo with chicken and steak. This rice is even better than the fried rice that most people are used to because the flavor and spices that they use are so unique! Other really great dishes I recommend are the fried fish combo (with rice, beans, and side salad), the Cuban sandwich, amd actually anything you get here is really good! I also recommend that you try the desert empanadas, the brownie explosion and the guava and cheese. They are like heaven on earth! I didn't even know such food existed! I can't even put into words how good they are...you just have to try them for yourself! They even have these really good shakes in all different flavors, but my favorite ones are the coco loco and the papaya . The coco loco is like a sweet coconut drink with milk, coconut flakes, cinnamon, and some other stuff I don't really know about, but it tastes great! Walked in with a SUPER warm welcome and a very nice slap in the face of the nice smelling empanadas. I ordered the Traditional Trio and had a free cheesecake empanada with the yelp check-in. The empanadas weren't drenched with oil and were super crispy! I got one of each (cheese, beef, chicken) and loved the cheese (beef would be the next one that I recommend).
