Better than Kamisama that's for sure. This place is like Boba Time compared to Tea Bar. I got the tonkatsu ramen. This bowl included a soft boiled egg, 2 pieces of chashu, noodles, bamboo, and nori. I like how they included it as a standard in this bowl, whereas other ramen places will charge you extra for the ingredients as side dishes. The broth was pretty good and tasty, noodles were filling, chashu was soft like they melt in your mouth but the outer parts were hard, the "soft boiled egg" was pretty much hard boiled. I added corn and tempura shrimp and the total was about $15. I gave them four stars because they're stingy on the chashu with only two pieces included and also because of the hard boiled egg that I got even though it specifically said "soft boiled egg" on the menu. I talked to the chef and he told me that they cook the eggs in a batch and that's why some are hard boiled, bummer. Otherwise, this place is on par with LA ramen places. I will never be going to Kamisama ramen again even though I live down the street from it. EDIT: Final review, after having been here a few more times they really need to fix the quality of their food and pricing. The soft-boiled egg description on their menu is sort of a toss-up sometimes it comes hard boiled, which is very disappointing. Also, I think that their price range is pretty expensive for what you get. In LA, you can get at least 3 pieces of chashu and toppings for essentially the same price you pay here. read more

Great savory flavor and price! The egg was perfectly soft boiled and the yolk was just runny enough to have some solid bits and some liquid bits to make the soup creamy. Stopped in for a quick bite one evening last month with my nephew. The location was where the former J's Place was, as well as so many restaurants before that - an ominous sign I thought. But I was pleasantly surprised by how they livened up the space. And the waitstaff were prompt and friendly. The ramen selection here is shockingly limited - strange given that "ramen" is literally in the restaurant's name. I settled on the tonkotsu ramen which came out quickly and steaming hot. The noodles were an excellent firmness and not overcooked. The broth was very mediocre, however. It was more fatty/oily rather than rich and lacked any depth. And the chasu was devoid of any flavor. I didn't even touch the egg given how off-putting everything but the noodles tasted. I left the meal somewhat underwhelmed - a shame since I've heard such positive things about this joint. So for the first time in 7 months, my friends and I decided to go out and get some ramen. We all have never been to O Ramen but man we were very pleased. One of my friends got a couple of beers, one of which was a rice based lager I think? We shared the takoyaki and the chicken katsu to start and both were really tasty with the sauce. Next we got our ramen, a couple of my friends got the chicken shoyu while I got the tantanmen. The tantanmen was so good and had so much in it that I thoroughly enjoyed. All in all we had a great time but if there was one thing I'd have to critique was that we did have to wait a little while to get our drink order but drinks were out quickly and everything else was great! So I'm obsessed with ramen thanks to O Ramen! It doesn't help that they are so close to my house. This is the kind of place that makes me want to be adventurous and try new things! Ramen, soba, udon...the list goes on! Bring on the noodles! My first time here I got takeout, which was a bit of a let down. They gave me the wrong order. I asked for a vegetarian ramen with tofu and got one that was loaded with pork. So I basically just drank the broth, but even that was so yummy! Came back recently and dined in with friends and it was superb! I really love how their miso soup takes different from anywhere else in town, just a small hint of sesame oil that rounds out the flavor. The potstickers are amazing and scream homemade, rather than home fried but frozen. Everyone loved their meals so much that we found we stopped talking and were secretly stealing bites of one another's plates. Our individual dinners turned into a family style free for all. I cannot wait to come back and check off another dish on their menu. My fingers are crossed that this place remains as authentic with amazing ingredients. The staff was very friendly and seated us quickly. I got the yaki udon katsu fried noodles, and the flavor was lacking and too sweet. The chicken was crunchy though. That dish was not flavorful enough and I wouldn't recommend it personally. I also tried the tonkatsu ramen and that was great, but I wish they had chili oil with the peppers in it and not just straight oil. I typically don't try new kinds of food. I was actually surprised on how good it was. The Gyoza was my favorite part of the meal. Me and my companion shared the Tofu Raman (medium spicy). Tried this place on our way home from Tehachapi, and we were definitely satisfied. My vegan friend was surprised by how many vegetarian options there were - he had the Yaki Kinoko Don (the portobello mushroom over rice) and he absolutely loved it. It was my first time having ramen that wasn't Top Ramen (lol!), and it was fulfilling. I had the Chicken Shoyu Ramen and it was delicious (although I could have done without the skin on the chicken, which is why I gave the place 4/5 stars). It has been some time since I have written a review, and I couldn't be happier to write this one. I have been to many ramen places in LA and to the ones here locally in Bakersfield, with the latter being lackluster and missing good base and items. I am not saying they are bad, but not nearly as good as they could be if they would put some love into the food. O Ramen does this perfectly, and with my nest friend going with me it couldn't have been better. The walk-up. O Ramen is a small shop that is tucked away in the small shopping center off Ming which surprised me, as most places for food are much closer to the mall/HWY99. It took a moment to find the shop front due to being in the back and the tree coverage in the parking lot. The staff are extremely friendly and welcome you in the normal Japanese fashion, which is a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is very clean and quiet (arrived at 7:30pm) and were seated immediately by the server. The starters. We first ordered the Agedashi Tofu and Veggie Gyoza for an appetizer. Both are pretty much some of the best I have ever had. The Tofu was lightly fried with a thin coating of breading, topped with I think was Eel sauce, cabbage, and green onions; please order this. Great texture, soft yet sturdy tofu, and great flavor infused into the entire dish. The veggie Gyoza came with 6 pieces (tofu had 4 big squares) and topped with more green onions. They had tons of flavor, thin dough to allow the flavors to come through more, and a dipping sauce that tasted great with not a lot of salt!!! Seriously, get these if you like flavor and appetizers that are not too filling. The entree. Now to the real business: the ramen. To put this into perspective, I literally drive 2 hours once (sometimes twice) a month to Little Tokyo to eat ramen at some of the famous local places. I do tend to take my ramen seriously (I know its weird but hey, we all got our quirks) and love to try new places, especially when they are close. I ordered the Shio Tofu Ramen which is a veggie base, veggies (corn, bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, and green onions) and small pieces of tofu. I did add the red chili oil to mine to make it spicy; add it if you like that sort of thing. The base was extremely flavorful, enhancing the other items that were in the bowl already. A great portion of vegetables and noodles make for this to be a hearty and healthy meal that will satisfy all walks of life, including the carnivore. You can add other items into it as well like more bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, egg, etc. I do wish that it came standard with the bamboo shoots, but it is only a small charge for that. If you love veggies or want something that is healthy, hearty, and wonderful flavor, get this!! My only issue is the way that the extra items that are ordered are given to you. Instead of adding in the add-ons for you, they are all presented in front of you in small dishes for your bowl. Me personally, I would rather have these items added in before it hits the table. It allows the food to heat up, soak up the base, and join it's flavor to the rest of the soup. I know it may be minor, but adding in bamboo shoots and extra bean sprouts creates different flavor profiles and does not allow the vegetables to get soft like the others. Again, small nitpick that I am not a fan of, but quickly got over it since it was so good!! The conclusion. Bottom line is this; if you are a fan of ramen or are thinking of trying something new, please go here. The staff are so nice and friendly, the food is by far the best ramen in town, and a menu that is small yet surprisingly large due to the changes you can make to any item. 2 people ran us around 50 bucks (minus tip) which included 3 drinks, 2 appetizers, and 2 ramens. I would say that is a great deal for such an experience in a town that seems to lack diversity in its food. Just go, i promise you will love it. I will be back next week, and the week after that. I ordered the tantanmen ramen bowl and the broth was absolutely on point! However, the noodles were a bit over cooked and by that I mean a little on the soggy side. Another comment I'd like to make is that there was too much green onions on top. I like green onions, but it was a bit too concentrated in the middle. The pork meat was delicious. I look forward to coming here and eat their ramen, especially out with the family on a cold night. They state on their yelp hours and for hours that their closing time is at 10pm, however me and my family just showed up to their door at 8:40pm with the door locked, a lady came out and told us if we're gonna take it to go if not they are closed because they had their last call. At 8:40pm, more than an hour before they close! I am very unhappy with this tonight. I have never seen this at any restaurant, and we eat out a lot! The only ramen house I have ever been to other than o Ramen was in Vegas and it received 10 Stars. I was very excited to find one here in Bakersfield so I went in and gave it a shot this one gets 9.5 stars in my book. It's amazing, the veggie broth is my favorite the tofu is cooked just right and it's not too soft and soaks up a lot of the flavor. One of our newest Soups Kitchens in Bakersfield, what can you say awesome broth and noodles with fresh toppings. You can't go wrong at O' Ramen. We went on the spur of the moment on a recommendation of a great friend at work, who has been there 4 times since their opening. The menu is not huge but the portions are. I and a huge fan of Pho and this is a different take on Pho. The broth and noodles are the biggest difference. I order the spicy one although I had really wanted the spicy seafood one but they were out that night. The wait staff are super friendly and eager to make sure your experience is the best. There are 2 sides of the restaurant, I think one side is for larger parties. They have a small section of beer and sake along with the usual soda and tea's. The pot stickers are very tasty and can be ordered with a spicy beef topping which was awesome. My friend suggested the monkey balls. I haven't eaten at many ramen restaurants, mainly because I feel like I found the best one on my first try! The tantanmen soup is spicy, fresh and so delicious. You can ask the chef for it to be more spicy or less spicy according to your preference. My husband says the garlic fried rice is a must-try. And the presentation? Beautiful. Almost a shame to dig in and eat it.....almost. Atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, too. It is family friendly but also nice enough for date night or special occasion.
