My husband and I had 5-star food and service at the bar at O'Steaks with Ed and Dan last night! My husband and I shared a meatloaf and whipped potatoes with asparagus entree, and a couple of drinks each. Daughter came to pick us up (as we had walked), and she had a drink also. We were treated so kindly, even by the young man who was watering the flowers outside when my husband and I waited outside for the restaurant to open! Customer service #1! This was almost a 4 star review: Pros: The service was very friendly. We had a large group of us and she did very well. The food was good but not great. The wine I had was good. Cons: The steak was too salty and not worth it for the price. I got the truffle mashed potatoes and I couldn't taste the truffle at all. They messed up the persons order sitting next to me. They brought the butter in paper bags? Overall, they have a nice bar, lots of searing and the ambiance is nice. The service was great. I just wish the food was better! read more

the ambiance was excellent, instantly comfortable & ready for a couple apps after a show at Capital Arts (excellent btw- Gipsy Kings!) items on the menu were tempting, almost hard to choose whether to split an entree or a couple of apps-we chose apps. The Ahi tuna was fantastic, left wanting more! the Crispy orange chicken...bottomed out. we were probably one of the last checks for the kitchen, but i think if i had not ordered the chicken, it would have been tossed! it had all the makings of the lil app that could but the almost mealy texture, sabotaged the finish. i must mention that the bartender was gracious & was working his tail off, with a smile & attentive to our options of drinks. he was impressive to watch! read more

We have eaten at the location in concord and hands down this establishment in Laconia is the best around. Great food. And great interaction with the waitress who was attentive and smiled the whole time. This was our anniversary night out and we chose the right place. We arrived just before sunset and had a somewhat difficult time finding the front entrance as we came down the hill by the lake. After driving past, turning around and returning we found our way in. The restaurant and patio are beautiful and the staff were so friendly as we were seated and placed our drink order. We ordered the Ahi Tuna for $20 (Sesame Crusted, Pickled Ginger, Cucumber Spaghetti, and House Ponzu Sauce) as our appetizer and asked if they might have any wasabi, which we were told they would check. It came out without any and we commented they must not have it, but our server said she would double check. After finishing it, another person cleared our plates so we never did get an answer to that question. For dinner, my husband ordered the 20-oz. USDA Prime Boneless Ribeye for $58 cooked medium rare (after describing how he wanted it seared on the outside and bloody red on the inside) with a side of Yukon Gold Whipped Potatoes for $8. I ordered the Surf and Turf (a sliced Flat Iron Steak topped with 5 small Shrimp Scampi) and a Loaded Baked Potato on the side for $10. What a HUGE disappointment! The steaks were hockey pucks, the shrimp was undercooked , and the baked potato was done at least two days ago - I've never seen such a dried out potato in my life. We showed the server and she brought the manager over to see it as well. After sending it all back and asking for the check, we were brought a bill on which they took off 50% of each of our entrees. That's when my husband lost it, told the server he would not pay that and wanted to speak with the manager again. She took the bill back to them and they removed both entrees and the manager brought it back to us. The manager acted like somehow this was our fault when we simply didn't want to pay for something we couldn't eat. We paid the bill even though a glass of wine I didn't get to touch was still on it. I visit O about once a year while visiting friends in NH. I think it's one of those places where you have fun in spite of the food. The ambiance is very nice . You can look out at a lovely lake and the place has a festive feeling. We had a friendly server but toward the end she didn't check on us and it took forever to get dessert. All that would be ok if the food was great but sadly it isn't. Soup special was good and the salads are good too. My husband ordered a filet for 46$ and it just came sitting all by itself on a white plate. Not an appealing presentation at all . Mashed potatoes came served separately. He ordered rare and it was completely overcooked. He didn't want to send it back because everyone else at the table had their food. I had sea bass which was ok but nothing to rave about. Looking at the menu, things seem overworked like they are trying too hard. We have been disappointed by the food every time but we keep going back because one of the people really enjoys going to O and it makes her happy. I wish it made me happy. Stopped by after 8:30 with no reservations and 7 in our party during Laconia's 100th Motorcycle week. They were able to accommodate us haggard, rugged looking bikers who rode all day in the cold and rain in the am then baked in the sun all afternoon. Mind you we still had to drive an hour away to our lodging. Service was fast, our server was excellent and gave us those warm bread with the tasty butter. My friend got the tomahawk steak and was surprised at the bill since he was too distracted to hear the price of the special in the beginning. The sirloin tips were nicely marinated and for me, the addition of the blue cheese elevated my steak. Overall, a nicer dinner for us that day. The ambiance of the place is nice and gorgeous especially facing the sunset!! Great place for a dinner date. read more

It's basic New England pub food. There is nothing high end or specialty, however it's Laconia so there shouldn't be any great expectations. This is very much great aesthetic to appeal to the demographic of tourists who want high end, but would be impressed by McDonald's on a fancy plate. Much better options available, nothing negative about the waitstaff, they work their ass off but the kitchen can't support them unfortunately. read more

I don't typically think of hotel restaurants as great dining options, but O certainly proved me wrong. We were staying at the hotel for one night and decided to try it out - and I'm glad we did. The food and cocktails were delicious and the portions were generous. I especially liked our server who was attentive and funny. The complimentary garlic bread in a bag was another huge highlight - it was so good! One thing to note is that a couple of the menu items we asked for weren't actually offered, and according to our server, never are. For example - the truffle cheddar upgrade isn't actually available for the burger and the creme brûlée is always vanilla despite being described as the chef's rotating selection. Ugh...We ate here three times last summer and it was great. Tonight, was a completely different experience. First, service was really pretty good. Our server was mostly on top of things and nothing else here was really her fault. This is where the positive experience pretty much ends. The oysters Rockefeller were disappointing at best. The oysters are fried and it's really just sautéed spinach. No shells for the oysters, no béchamel, not really a Rockefeller. Two of our steaks came out cold. The fish was seasoned so salty as to almost not be edible. On the positive side, the lobster Mac and cheese was good (we ordered the 8oz entree as a side). For the cost of the steaks here, I'd suggest that the value might not be there. read more

First date so this was the place to go! Made a reservation and asked for a table near a window where we could see the lake. They suggested a high top in the bar...no thank you. We got a table over looking the parking lot. The hostess was super nice, a little frisky on the way in and more of the same on the way out; my date did not appreciate it! The bartender was weird. He has this inner monologue going which he actually spoke out loud. Took 15 minutes to get us a drink while he argued with the other bartender all within earshot. Totally unprofessional. Food was good but waiters in jeans not acceptable. Waiter forgot one of our sides also totally unacceptable. Then he disappeared but he had no issues with it. Like I said above, practically smothered by the hostess on the way out the door. Dessert to go was terrible later that night. Bummer, we were so looking forward to the O but won't return. We normally do not go out on Holidays. But it was our 20th wedding anniversary and our daughters surprised us with reservations and paid for our night out. Our first time here, went in and the host & Hostess were wonderful and nice! We were seated given menus, seating we had was rather well not the best, we are full sized people. We asked to be moved to give our waiter more room to maneuver. They happily moved us a table over. It was a 5 course prefixed meal, I had the Chicken satay , green mixed salad w/ candied walnuts and cranberry's and blue cheese & apples w/ vinaigrette Then I had prime rib , Brussels sprouts & bacon & agrautin potatoes, Creme brûlée Every thing was perfect! Overall experience was great but I think could benefit from a bit more presentation of the main. Steak on a plate by itself looked a little lonely and 1 skinny carrot didn't dress it up very much. Cauliflower au gratin was very good, but would have preferred smaller amount and some sort of vegetable. A recent visit to O's, was a completely disappointing experience that fell far short of a five-star standard. On a Sunday night when the restaurant wasn't even busy, the wait times were extraordinary. Our server did not check on us until a full 20 minutes after our main meals were delivered, at which point our dissatisfaction was already a moot point. We waited an unreasonable amount of time for drinks, then for appetizers, then for our meals, and check ins were poorly timed. Example, a second round of drinks were ordered. It took a usually long time for them to arrive. At one point our waitress appeared and finally noticed we still had not gotten a second round. It STILL took another four minutes for the drinks to appear. The food itself was a major letdown. A full 70% of our meals were cold, and a steak, which was ordered medium-rare, arrived burnt to a crisp. The quality of the food and service simply did not align with the restaurant's reputation, AT ALL. If you are going to charge those prices, make it worth it! The filet arrived on a huge plate without one lick of garnish. Just a piece of meat on a plate. Who is plating these dishes and saying "yup that's five star, send it!"? Who is picking up these plates and being okay with delivering them to patrons? Who is overseeing this and thinking "Michelin star here we come"? Pathetic. To make matters worse, we had called ahead to arrange a special birthday service for one of our party and were guaranteed it would be taken care of. However, there was not a single acknowledgment of the birthday we were trying to celebrate. Adding to the poor experience, the new general manager was condescending, going so far as to address all three of us women at the table as "guys." He went on to describe all the challenges of the service industry as if we were unaware. Do better. Try turning it around by improving the experience and service. Don't make excuses. For a restaurant claiming to be five-star, the small details matter. It makes or breaks the experience. Serving bread in bags is a deplorable practice for a fine dining establishment, and even the chairs were ugly, contributing to a sense that the venue doesn't live up to its own hype. If this is what O's thinks five-star service looks like, it's a sad reflection on the industry. True five-star service is a seamless experience from the moment you walk in. It involves attentive, professional staff who anticipate your needs without being intrusive. Staff is invisible but attentive, with an ability always arrive at the perfect moment. Drinks should arrive promptly, courses should be timed perfectly, and the food should be prepared exactly as ordered, and served hot. A five-star establishment would have a manager who is gracious and welcoming, and special occasions like birthdays would be acknowledged with a sincere, personalized gesture. This restaurant's failure to deliver on these basic expectations, from the cold food to the condescending manager and unacknowledged birthday, demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what five-star service truly means. Stop touting yourself as 5 star O's. It's embarrassing. read more

We have had so many great experiences here in the last three years! We almost always sit in the bar area--so much more of a fun vibe and the wait staff and bartenders are professional and friendly! O's filet minon is absolutely the best and their sides rock! Lobster Mac is phenomenal, but a little goes a long way/so rich. Lovely setting! read more

Very disappointed. We've been several times in the past and really enjoyed their food. We were just turned away as the restaurant opened because they stated they were booked solid with reservations. We explained we drove over 3 hours from another state to visit and the hostess went to get a manager. When the manager came back, there wasn't even an attempt to accommodate us considering the restaurant was empty, and his response was very blunt and matter of fact- there wasn't even an attempt to humor us, no true apology, etc. To top it off, it's our first wedding anniversary and we were hoping to have it there as it's been a yearly tradition since we began planning and holding our wedding here in NH. We've never had a problem walking in before and brought a decent amount of business with groups in the past. We will re-think visiting in the future- at least leave some tables open for guaranteed customers that walk in and don't have the opportunity to "no show" a reservation. read more

O Steaks & Seafood is considered at the high end of Lakes Region dining and it lived up to our high expectations. Reservations are necessary and they are now expecting a $50 deposit with your reservation, which is reasonable given the demand. There is seating both inside and out on a lovely patio overlooking lovely Lake Opechee. I heard you can sit at the small bar on a walk-in basis but don't count on that being available very often. We had chosen inside and it's a lovely setting for dining. Our server was very friendly, proactive and accommodating. I would have expected a much wider micro-brew selection but the wine choices were much better and priced about right for this type of restaurant. I had the Prime NY Strip and it was delicious and cooked as ordered. Others had the Tomahawk Pork Chop which was massive and fantastic; a Caesar salad with garlic shrimp added and Orange Chicken. We reserved the outdoor patio a day in advance, as it seems difficult to get a seat without a reservation. I'd definitely recommend eating outside for dinner, weather permitting; the view is beautiful and it's especially so at sunset. I ordered the ahi tuna, which overall I enjoyed very much. The tuna was great and I liked the shrimp fried rice, which had a nice variety of vegetables in it. The "tempura asparagus" is just a piece of deep fried asparagus but tasted good anyway. The dish also comes with something they call kimchi, although I'd describe it more as pickled coleslaw. It tasted fine, but again I wouldn't consider it to be kimchi. My dad ordered a 12 oz steak, but it was well done instead of medium rare. It seemed to us like the dish had been left out for too long and had cooked through the inside before it reached us. Our waiter was very gracious and informed the kitchen. We were offered a free dessert and got the chocolate lava cake with extra ice cream. We were warned that the place was short-staffed and our waiter was great all things considered, but our dishes did take a while to come out. The lava cake was lukewarm rather than piping hot as you'd expect, so we figured it was a matter of the waiter being too busy. Overall solid food with a fantastic view of the lake. read more

First experience was not good at all. Called twice to try and book a reservation, both times no one picked up. Walked in, was asked if I had a reservation, I said no I called twice, and the woman looked at me like I was an idiot and said "haha yeah the phones just ring so much". Excuse me? "The phones ring so much?" I've worked in a place like this and we would be fired if we let the phones ring more than 3 times. Anyways, we were sat down in a terrible spot. Then to top it all off our food took almost an hour and a half to come out of the kitchen. The waitress apologized that they were "backed up". It's a Saturday night and this place is supposed to be upscale, I would think that the kitchen would be able to handle what looked to be a normal weekend night. The food was alright, but NOT worth the "upscale" prices. My advice, don't waste your time, money, and patience. Go somewhere else. read more

The male host (bald guy) was flamboyantly rude when asking to move to another table or lower a shade outside when there were several open tables on the patio in the shade. The guys was Bobbing his head like a chicken and making hand movements when I asked with the judgyiest of faces and attitude. Terrible first impression and even worst customer service. I noticed others complained on here about him also. Be Better O Steaks. Side note the flies on the patio are brutal and the waitress even joked about them.
