My mom and I have frequented Oak Barrel Tavern many times. Sad to say, after our visit this Saturday night, we may not be returning... We arrived a little before 6:00 p.m. so it was not very busy. James, our waiter, was very pleasant, and got us seated with menus and drinks pretty quickly. My mom ordered her usual fish and chips, but with sweet potato tots instead of french fries. I decided to choose something different this time...I ordered the fish tacos with baked haddock. James came with our food in about ten minutes. My mom's dish was good as usual. There was a good size piece of fish fried to a light and crisp texture. There were plenty of sweet potato tots, and, of course, it came with awesome tartar sauce and coleslaw. I got three flour fish tacos, filled with coleslaw, avocado, and, each one had a one inch piece of baked haddock in it...Seriously!! I was looking everywhere for the rest of the fish!! Now I am a rather small person. I do not eat much, but I do get hungry. I took the fish from the other tacos and put it the taco I planned on eating and made that my dinner. My mother then gave me pieces of her fish to supplement what I was served so I would have at least a few bites of fish... James had come over to our table right after he had served us our food to see if everything was ok. I showed him the amount of fish in each taco. I asked him if maybe the cook had peaked around the corner and seen that I was a small person and made a smaller portion for me since I was little (as a joke!). James apologized and said he would check on this for us. I ate my one taco; my mom finished her dinner, and we never saw James again until it was time for the check. I asked if he had spoken to someone about the teeny, weenie pieces of fish in my tacos and he said, "No, I did not." James then went and spoke with Shannon, the manager on that evening. She came over to our table and asked what the issue was. When I told her, she informed me that, "all of the tacos are weighed". Then asked if there was anything else she could do for us and said when we came back, if I ordered the tacos again, 'we will take care of you". A nice local spot with a cool bar. We ordered a ton of apps to include wings, buffalo chicken dip, onion rings, Brussel sprouts and the absolutely delicious soft pretzels. All were good but the pretzels and the warm pita chips for the buffalo chicken dip stood out. Our waiter wasn't all that enthused to be there and didn't really know anything about their decent beer selection. My first trip to Oak Barrel was fantastic! Wasn't too busy for a Saturday night but service was spot on. We sat at the bar and we ordered some drinks right away. I really enjoy that their draft list included quite a few local brews. The menu was your typical pub/bar type foods. Burgers, salads, sandwiches - lots of things to choose from without being overwhelming. I settled on the pastrami sandwich with sweet potato tots and man, I'm so glad I did. Pastrami came with Swiss and spicy mustard. The pastrami itself was awesome (not fatty or chewy which happens far too often) and the tots were to die for. Great service, great food. My mother and I visited this place last week. It was my third time and her first. We had meatloaf, Buffalo chicken dip, and slow-roasted prime rib. The dip was especially excellent, with a flavorful sauce and mildly crispy pita chips. The prime rib was alright, but didn't have a terribly distinctive taste. The meatloaf was excellent, served over a bed of mashed potatoes with just the right amount of sauce. I'd been here before and I would come back again, keep it up! read more

This restaurant is so-so. My husband and I are not a fan of chain food, we prefer the freshness of non-chain restaurants. But it's not horrible or anything. We really love the fried pickles and peppers. Burgers are good. Haven't had anything we really disliked. The big drawback is how cold the restaurant is. Unfortunately it is too cold for comfort. Food comes out nice and hot but cools down way too quickly because of how cold it is. Have to keep a sweater or jacket on entire time. Such a bummer. In one word... FANTASTIC... from start to finish. We, a family of five + service dog. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The manager brought our dog a bowl of water. We were seated at a table that was accommodating for our son, who has special needs. The food was delicious. The service was impeccable. The finishing touch... our son, who is non-verbal, became very attached to his "fry basket." Hugging it, indicating that he could not live without it. As parents, we stressed about how to make a smooth exit without causing a disturbance to our fellow diners. The waitress quietly slid us a bag and insisted we let him bring the fry basket home. The manager then came by with a larger one to add to his "collection." A parting gift that made this boy's mother cry, his teenage brothers smile in awe of a simple kindness, his father left speechless. This was more than a dinner out. This was a memory. I have been here to eat three times in the past two weeks and spent well over 500 dollars and every time it is been great until today when I asked to have the grilled chicken sandwich with mozzarella instead of Munster cheese the sandwich was great but when I got my bill they charged me 499 for a piece of mozzarella cheese. Have been a couple time since they opened. Let me start by saying the restaurant is completely different than Tweeds...In a good way. The place is beautiful. A lot of money was spent on renovations. High top tables in Bar area. About 4 round tables in the back. a nice sitting area in front of the fireplace to have some drinks and appetizers. I've had sandwiches and burgers so far. All were good. My wife has had there dinner salads there were also very good. If there was a complaint that i would have is that it is on the loud side. Not really sure why cause Tweeds was never really that loud. And I would say its a bit on the pricey side for entrees and such. If the prices were a bit lower i would have probably given them 5 stars. You have to check out the bar top. We came in at around 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. There was a short wait for a table, which we anticipated. The interior of the restaurant is COMPLETELY different from what it used to be when it was Tweed's. I didn't notice many booths. Most are high-top tables with chairs and some are low tables with chairs. We sat at a high-top table, which I found to be uncomfortable. It's also very loud. We had to yell across the table to hear each other. We ordered our drinks and while my Diet Pepsi came out right away, the other member of my party waited more than ten minutes for his beer. We placed our order and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered a wrap with onion rings and he ordered a salad. He enjoyed his salad, and my wrap was pretty good. I ordered the onion rings because they are listed as an "OBT Signature" menu item. They were cold and chewy. There was nothing "signature" about them; I was underwhelmed. We ordered dessert to share. We ordered a brownie with ice cream. The ice cream came out a soupy mess. The waitress said it was because they warmed up the brownie. If that's the case, maybe they should re-evaluate the execution of the dessert. Maybe there were a few flaws because they're still new, and I'll probably be back, but my first experience here wasn't a good one. read more

Came here on a Thursday evening for a work get together, since we work right down the road. At first glance, it was a nice upgrade. Our party was 11 people and they weren't even equipped for. Four of us showed up first and wasn't served right away, which is kinda of annoying. They are a new place, figured they be all over the customers. I stopped in tonight with my wife to check the place out and see how it compares to the old Tweeds. Although I miss Tweeds the renovation results here are impressive. We weren't very hungry and ended up with the hummus platter which was good. I ordered a bowl of the clam chowder and I thought it was fantastic. Creamy and but not heavy with plenty of fresh clams. Perfect casual restaurant, really enjoyed this place. What really impressed us was how fresh the food was and how much thought went into the overall presentation. We had the Ahi tuna rice bowl and fish tacos - the tuna was cooked perfectly and was definitely sushi grade, and the fish tacos had these flour tortillas that were very fresh but not floppy making them easy to eat - both dishes were delicious. First time here. Impressed by decor, layout of tables and ambience. The service was good: friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. The cocktails looked interesting, and the bar well stocked. We didn't order any drinks today, but I'm excited to come back and try a bunch of them. The menu looked delicious and was full of comfort food... it was difficult to choose what to eat! We were happy with what we ordered. My boyfriend stopped talking to me after his wedge salad with steak tips came as he was preoccupied with his meal ( I mean, not in a rude way). I ordered bacon burger with fries, both of which were delicious, with the exception that the bacon was overcooked and the burger was medium-well despite being ordered at medium. These are minor inconveniences and I didn't even bother to mention it to the server because it was so delicious anyway. The slightly off preparation of my meal and the fact that they serve Pepsi products are what knocked my rating down to four stars.
