I would love, really love to give this place a higher rating, and would rather give it a 3.5, if it were an option. Let's start with the pizza...delicious and no soggy bottoms. We ordered the a Margherita, a Papa Juan as well as a Prosciutto and Arugula. All were well cooked and really good, each person who ordered these devoured them. The Oak Burger was average, but their fries were on a whole different level. No one could keep their hands off them. Definitely order a side of fries. The Bolognese was awful; it was more like a soup than a pasta and way too "tomato-y". A few of us ordered this and we all had the same reaction, which was immediate regret ordering this dish. It was too salty and the gnocchi wasn't good. They could've attempted making it better with some bread or something on the side, but nothing. Skip it. Service wasn't the best. I think there may have only been one server that night - our drinks weren't refilled, water wasn't replenished, and all the meals came out at vastly different times...3 received theirs meals pretty quickly; at least within 20 minutes of ordering. The food here is awesome. We love the oak bread, bolognese, steak frites and they have the best Brussel sprouts ever! It's a bummer they don't put more training/emphasis on good service. This review is based on five different experiences I have received visiting oak wood fire kitchen. The first two times going to this restaurant were amazing! Food, service, atmosphere was 5/5! And I highly recommended this place to all my friends. The last three times going have sucked. Todays experience was the worst. all 6 of us received our food at different times. Brought out our two appetizer at different times. Drinks took forever to get and they're always out of something. Pizza was burnt. ( two guest received their meals as we got our 1 appetizer and then they left because it took 1 hour for us to get our food). Overall the only thing we received that wasn't wrong or took forever was water. Our server was amazing and doing the best he could do though. Food wasn't consistent nor did they even give us good portion sizes. I normal get the Nashville sandwich and it was extremely small. I could of went to Chick-fil-A and got tenders for half the price and more quantity and quality food. I will be visiting next Sunday again to give this place one more shot. This place is SOOOO good!!! The got cheese appetizer is to die for! The bread comes piping hot, fresh from the oven and the goat cheese mixed with the red sauce is seriously the bomb! However, I was sort of surprised when I walked in to find only two people sitting at the bar area, but clearly it had been filled before and there were tons of dirty plates and napkins, and glasses that had not been cleared away and stayed there for the entire visit that my friend and I had dinner at. you would think service staff would clean that up quickly because it really does detract from the entire ambience to just have dirty dishes hanging around the area. We each ordered a pizza and a salad. It was just a dinner salad and it was on the bitter side and very very lightly dressed. I think more dressing would've cut the bitterness a little bit to the arugula. The pizzas themselves were a disappointment. The dough/crusts on both our orders were burned. The sauce was quite bland and there weren't really any special seasonings other than a hot honey glaze that made the taste different or elevated. If given the choice of where to spend my money I'd choose Slackwater over this every time for a good pizza. I will say the ambience and the service was pretty decent. Placed used to be one of my favorites but it's gone downhill. Last two times I've come the food has been very bad and they never want to try and make it right. Today I ordered the chicken sandwich and they brought it out 15 minutes after my girlfriends entree. She was done eating when it came out. When it did come out, it was over cooked and burnt and I couldn't even eat it. I literally couldn't even bite into it. Luckily after telling them, they gave me a whole $3.65 off my meal! There was zero communication on me waiting 15 minutes for my entree after the other one was served and after flagging down the waitress, she told me that that was normal and that the sandwich takes longer to make than the pizza (even if that were true, you would think they would have the timing down). And it's not true bc that's what we order every time. Sad to see this place like this cause it has been a go to for me for years. I get that mistakes happen but at least train the employees to handle mistakes better and communicate.
