Awesome diner! i got chicken fingers and disco fries and the chicken fingers were amazing - very clearly not just something fried from restaurant depot. I honestly would believe they make them themselves. Food: The food was great. I was here with a party of 5 and everyone was extremely happy with their meal. The portion sizes are large and all the food came out fresh. As said above i was impressed with the chicken fingers (i know, they are just chicken fingers) but they were great. I ended up taking the leftovers home and they were good even 2 days later. Atmosphere: The place was packed for lunch time when we came in. The place is decorated super funky with signage everywhere and bright colors, it looks great honestly. The place was nice and clean and that's all you can ask for! Service: Even with the place almost packed out we were seated immediately. The food took a while to come but that is somewhat expected when the restaurant is almost full, not really a complaint. Our waitress was very nice and she got all the orders correct - again, all you can really ask for. Overall i was impressed with this place. Nice diner with good food, a large selection and friendly staff. Ordered an egg white omelette- came with greens and toast - was more than enough food, didn't even finish it. Server was attentive, friendly, and did a great job at ensuring all orders were correct (we were a large group). Provides outdoor seating, but it is slightly more enclosed due to the heaters being on. There is some ventilation towards the top of the tent, but not full ventilation. The upside was that it was quiet during the time that we came, so there wasn't a large crowd in the tent anyway. read more

First, we love the Oakland diner, good place, good food, good workers/service. Today, we went for breakfast and ordered home fries, instead of receiving homemade fresh home fries we got the cubed premade potato melody, GROSS! If I want process food, I will go to the store and get it, I understand food is expensive, but really this NJ we are King when it comes to diner food! Bring back the real-real. read more

A gentleman (wearing glasses) working at the front desk as a host was incredibly rude to us for no apparent reason. It's almost as if we bothered him that we showed up. Has so many options on the menu. Everything I've ever eaten has been wonderful. It's often times very packed, but they seat you as quickly as possible if there happens to be a wait. Great spot for lunch! The food is great. Far beyond most standard diner food. The staff was nice and friendly. The restaurant was super quirky and had a lot to offer visually to Italian customers. Really enjoyed the vibe here. The ONLY reason I only gave 4 stars: when we were eating outside, there was a strong smell of sewage wafting through the air for about 2 minutes, then is dissipated. If I were to design a diner this is exactly what I would've done. Visually there is so much to look at on the walls-inside and outside of the building. The menu reads like a book of yummy items. Typical diner fare meets really interesting entree choices. I can personally say that their ice cream root beer floats are fantastic. As I write up this review I am here for breakfast. They have variety with their breakfast choices, including lots of different omelet combos. You are greeted by all with a smile when you walk in, great service, great place, great choice. read more

Fun, graffiti covered, pay at the front style NY diner in the NJ suburbs. I went for lunch with two friends the day after thanksgiving. It was pretty crowded and they required that all three of us be there before seating us. This place has the typical eclectic mix of food that is characteristic of NY diners. The food is nothing special, but the atmosphere is very fun. I ordered a Greek omelet (which came with sides of toast and home fries). The toast was completely covered in butter and the omelet and home fries were "meh". The food came out very fast though. (7.5/10) read more

This is a great diner. I have not had a bad meal here and we come here about once every two weeks. I think the specials are well thought out and their Churrasco Steak Sandwich is really really good. I also like their breakfast food. A few times they had this appetizer meatball special and it was really good but its only available sometimes. My wife and kids come here as well. They renovated it recently and I think they did a great job. If I had any tiny complaint is that a few times we have come there when they had new servers and they did not know their own menu well and a mistakes did occur. Easily resolved but for example with the specials I've ordered they've forgotten the cheese or side dish etc. Again, easily resolved so I won't take it down a point or anything but I will say that they were definitely hiring new servers and i think the training can be fine tuned a little. All in all, we enjoy it and its probably our favorite Jersey Diner. read more

Review is based on customer service not the food since we did not get to dine I called the restaurant prior to making the trip to inquire if we can eat outside with a dog. I was told yes. We then traveled there from a distance to have so we thought- a socially distance dining experience based on the reviews I have read on yelp. When we arrived I was told no dogs allowed. I said that I had called and was told that you do except dogs. Mary the response was who did you speak to? Would it matter and would you then allow me to sit down. Additionally extremely rude. Understand that I have a dog that does not not bark, is hyper allergenic, and as mellow as could be. It is also not a large dog. Train your people. We went to another diner nearby where they gladly welcomed us. I guess Covid has not made people at least some people any nicer. read more

No gluten free menu available. My friend ordered an omelette and there was a hair in it. Although the diner has nice art work, the food quality is lacking. I actually find the place to be dirty. Been going to the OD for years now. Before covid I had asked the manager why they didn't use Heinz ketchup, he said it was a supply issue. Fast forward to 2024, the ketchup on tables is still a knock off brand of Heinz. The irony is that when I order take out the ketchup packets are Heinz. If a restaurant is blatantly showing they are cutting a corner what other shortcuts are they taking? I can't complain about the service or the food, just the ketchup on the table. Sometimes I'll order a baked potato rather than fries so I don't have to use weird-tasting ketchup. For a $17 sandwich, give me Heinz! read more

If we are going out to dinner as a family, my kids ALWAYS ask for the Oakland Diner. The menu is large and definitely accommodates the children's preferences. We love sitting in their outside area that has an overhang. The kids LOVE the french toast- my preference is the paninis, salads, or the omelets. read more

We had a great lunch/brunch at the Oakland Diner yesterday. It looks like part of the diner is being renovated, but we only had to wait 10 minutes on a busy Saturday. Cleverly decorated with lots to look at. We sat at a comfortable booth that was just the right size for the three of us. We were greeted immediately by our server who took our drink orders and then quickly returned. My sister had a Pizza Burger with fries that came exactly as ordered. The portion of fries was HUGE! My other sister had Loaded Breakfast Hash. She loved it-the hash was crispy-which is how she likes it. I had The Committed Pig. It was delicious! The Chiabatta was fresh. All the ingredients were yummy. I have to caution that the thick cut bacon is REALLY THICK!! Anyway, everyone was happy with their choices. So my fiancé and I decided to come here for a nice relaxing brunch and we were greeted by beautiful outdoor seating and a lovely atmosphere. The service was pretty good minus one small issue with a server leaving us high and dry but the food was the real star of the show. When I tell you it was the tastiest diner I've been to, I mean it. And I've been to A LOT of diners. My sandwich consisted of fried chicken, fried eggplant, basil , roasted red peppers and boy was it delicious. My fiancé has a crab cake burger with the house chips which blew my mind. The sandwich was fantastic but the chips were *chefs kiss* perfect. Anyway, the Oakland Diner was close to where we were hiking so it sounded like a good stop. Atmosphere: The Oakland diner has one of the best diner atmospheres I've been too. I'm not sure if it was once a fast food restaurant with the giant glass windows reminiscent of Wendy's. The entire diner is decorated with movie themes, drawings, and honestly anything you can imagine. It's an eccletic but fun style. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh but I could have used more refills. Food: Like most diners, the Oakland Diner serves almost everything. They have plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. They even have an entire page of salads and healthy choices. We arrived around 11. I wasn't sure what I wanted but decided to try their Mexican steak and eggs special. It came with steak, eggs (I chose scrambled), Guacomole, refried beans, and wraps. I like medium rare steak, and it was cooked perfectly. It was one of the best diner steaks I've had. Plus, half the plate was dedicated to guacamole and who can argue with that? In all, I was extremely happy with my meal. Service: The Oakland diner was busy when we arrived. Our waitor was all over the place but I could have used more drink refills and had to ask another waitor. The food did come out quickly. Cost: For the special and coffee, the cost was $18. To start with, I generally love diners and the Oakland Diner is no exception to the rule. Most meals I've had there were good, some even great, but then again... I happened to love roast beef au jus, and had it several times there, making it one of my favorite meals until the last time or two... I ordered the roast beef and the meat was full of rubber bands, or at least it tasted like it.
