[[HIGHLIGHT]]We came here on Memorial Day, about 15 minutes after they opened for the day and it was already packed! Crazy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We found metered parking directly across from Oakobing and walked over. I think there is parking behind the shops through the alley. I didn't know any specifics since I didn't park there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we walked in the front doors, I got in line while hubby saved us a table. If you go out the back door, there is another room with more seating[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I waited for my turn at the kiosk... you place the order yourself. Be sure to enter your phone number to earn loyalty points. I felt bad for the one lady making all the orders by herself. She was working as quickly as she could! I watched her for a little bit. She changed gloves often, keeping the ingredients separated. It wasn't long before I was taking my order to the table. I ordered two individual size bingsoos. One would have been ample for us to share. Each of them cost $8.50 and I got a side of Mochi for $2.25. This was some of the freshest Mochi topping I've had! Each piece was so super soft, even softer than marshmallows! They came in a condiment container so we could add them as we desired. Hubby's bingsoo was the Mango Melon and mine was the Mango. The shaved ice used was Mango for both. His had melon (Honeydew) balls and mine had mango chunks. This wasn't the best bingsoo I've had, but it was refreshing and made for a nice dessert! I thought I had been here before and I was right! It was Homibing and since my visit in 2017, it has become Oakobing. I'm glad we got to come check it out! The shaved ice menu still looks the same, except for the updated prices!

Parking is tough with the large amounts of people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating was completely full and spills over to an extra room they have for seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiting line was out the door for the two ordering kiosks. The Injeolmi Shaved Ice was my favorite. It is a creamy milk flavor. Ice was finely shaved and melted in the mouth nicely. Mochi pieces gave it extra texture. Dirty green tea oreo shaved ice has a shot of coffee on the side to drizzle on. The green tea isn't really a strong taste and the ice just makes it more watery. Coffee drizzled on just made the dessert a little more bitter. Overall an okay place for shaved ice. I'll probably only order the injeolmi shaved ice next time!
We visited Oakobing for dessert after dining at Hangari Kalguksu nearby just before for lunch. Although it was just down the street, we had to pay again for parking since we weren't allowed to leave the respective lots without paying extra. $5 parking just to grab dessert was a bit of a sting but for LA it's to be expected. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was somewhat small but wasn't really busy for a Saturday afternoon, and we noticed they had some spacious auxiliary seating areas specifically for Oakobing across the hall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At first glance, the prices seemed sort of high for shaved ice, so we opted for sharing 2 of the smallest personal sizes ($8.5 each). It turns out that this size was plenty. I'm not sure how big the regular bowls are, but I think especially after a meal the personal size is plenty for a satisfying dessert for 2 people. I'm assuming part of the large price difference in sizes comes down to the large amount of fresh fruit that comes on their regular bowls. Still, we very much enjoyed our bowls. The ice is shaved almost impossibly thin, and rather than melting into a pool of water almost turns into a sorbet/ice cream like texture, which is very satisfying to eat. I enjoyed how their condensed milk topping was diluted to form a lighter cream that was more sauce-like than think and drizzle-like. It all lended to making the dessert enjoyably light. I would definitely drop by again, especially if we could avoid the parking costs.
I had really high hopes for this place considering it was recommended by a friend and the positive reviews, but we were pretty disappointed. We ordered the mango bingsoo with a side of the melon balls. I like the texture of the snow, but the flavor left much to be desired. It has an artificial mango taste that isn't very pleasant. The mangos were also not fresh... tasted like the frozen mangos you get at the freezer section of the grocery store. I wish it was also in a bowl, since it's pretty messy eating it on the plate. Every time I tried to scoop some snow, some would fall onto the tray since the plate is so small. The melon balls were fine, slightly sweet but not super ripe. I like that you can order through a kiosk and that there's pictures of what you are ordering. The snow came out reasonably quickly considering there was only one person working. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior has plenty of tables for you to sit down and enjoy your desserts.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We parked nearby for lunch and walked over, but parking seems pretty limited/difficult (standard for LA though I guess, lol).
My go to shaved ice dessert spot. Got the matcha one this time, which comes with red bean and mochi. It wasn't too sweet and was really light, which I liked because it doesn't make me feel too guilty having a sweet treat. ive also had the strawberry one and mango melon in the past and it is so refreshing. Parking can be a little rough since it's mainly street parking, but they do have valet in the back. Ordering is super easy since it's all self service kiosks. There's plenty of seating, but it does get really packed at night. Overall, always a solid spot and I'd definitely keep coming back!
OK, so this place was good, don't get me wrong. But I was expecting a little bit more. I know this is one of the top places in Koreatown, but I feel like I've had slightly better once elsewhere. The flavor of the snow I got was good, but it didn't allow me very much. I would have liked maybe more condensed milk on the side, the container they give is kind of small, but I probably could've asked for more. Overall, I think it's worth a shot, but I would probably not come back unless I'm really craving it.
I went on a Wednesday night around 7:30 and it was relatively empty. It was pretty packed by the time we left though so I would expect a wait if you're going a little later at night. We ordered at the kiosk and got our food super quick. We also got lucky with street parking nearby which was free after 6pm I think Pineapple: 4/5 this is a special flavor that I think is only available in April. I liked it but kinda wished it was a little more sour. Note: I like Oakobing a lot in general bc their bingsu is a creamier than other places but this was $20 so def not something I would get often. It was big enough that my friend and I were pretty full and didn't wanna finish it so it probably is a good amount for 3-4 people
The bingsu has a soft, light, and pillowy texture that melts in your mouth. We tried the matcha, strawberry mascarpone, and mango flavors, and my personal favorite was the strawberry mascarpone. The matcha latte was also excellent, with high-quality matcha that reminded us of the one we had in Asakusa, Japan.
Oakobing is definitely one of my favorite dessert spots in Ktown! I stopped by with some friends on a Saturday night and it was packed. You order at the self service kiosks. I appreciate how they have smaller single bingsu as well as the full sized options. We got the mango melon full sized shaved ice, which comes in a half melon bowl with melon balls - it was so refreshing and perfect for sharing. That said, it does get very crowded on weekend evenings and finding a table was a bit of a challenge. They have indoor as well as limited outdoor tables. Tables weren't really cleaned as frequently, likely as the staff were simply so busy. Parking can be tricky especially on busy weekend evenings.

Streamlined kiosk ordering and window pick up in a cafe environment. My family was looking for soft bingsoo after eating in ktown and this hit the spot! The black sesame flavor was super nutty and strawberry ice was very refreshing! read more
Definitely one of my favorite dessert places to go to after eating around K-Town. Love getting the Injeolmi Shaved Ice (Bingsu) whenever I come here. The Bingsu itself comes with Milk flavored shaved ice that is layered with roasted soybean powder, and topped with mochis and sweet red beans on the side. It also comes with condensed milk which you can pour over the Bingsu. The shaved ice is very delicate and light which makes it refreshing. The addition of the mochi and red bean just tops it off and makes it perfect. The only issues that I have about this place is the valet parking and the cleanliness of the shop. Valet is $5 which isn't too uncommon for parking in K-Town, but you don't end up spending that much time here since the Bingsu does not take long to eat. So the value you get for parking is not great and I think should be cheaper. Cleanliness is the other issue. The floors and tables can get grimy, there's trash on the floor, and the trashcans are overflowing at times. Besides what I mentioned above, the place is great and definitely one of the better options for desserts in K-Town. read more

This was a spontaneous visit. I am not big on sugar the Bf is. BUT, there I was lurking someone IG account and they posted a pic of this mountain of deliciousness. I was like let's look this place up and hopefully it's not far. Alas! It was only half a mile from where we live. My thing was "It was meant to be" So i told my Bf get ready we're trying this place out that serves a mountain of shaved ice. He did not question it he knows if I choose a place it has to be good that and I always pay So! This place is right by where out Japanese BBQ spot is across the street. We found parking on Catalina luckily because on a Saturday night in K-Town that's a miracle. They also have a parking garage and we took note of that for next time lol. You'll see from the pictures of the menu that there were a few items "out of season" which sucks because I really wanted to try the coconut ice flakes. So we went to the next best thing "Oreo Tiramisu Ice flakes" it was slightly busy and it takes time to make them because you can see all the toppings being added and the workers look So focused lol. We didn't mind but there were other people that were being so impatient Relax everyone will get there delicious desert. So then we received our delicious mountain and lord and behold it had a slice of Cheese cake lol that and a shot of espresso to pour over and we're like nahhh that's doing the most so we skipped that. But this was so good!!!! It did not feel heavy and was perfectly balanced from the sweetness and coffee flavor. The seating area is pretty good and they also have more seating towards the back where it's a lot more quiet. We looked at the menu and definitely took notes on what we should get next time like the Strawberry brick toast We will be back! read more

If you want to try multiple flavors, they also have single servings (which are basically smaller versions). I've seen Oakobing a lot from the outside, and there's ALWAYS a line. The location is in the middle of Ktown, and has a $5 parking valet garage that can be easy to miss. One of the best shaved ice places i've ever been to! The Mango shaved ice was served with the sweetest mangoes and the Black Sesame dish was generously served with yummy sweet beans and mochi! Parking was a breeze even on a Friday night, there's a 3usd valet spot on the building itself. read more

On June 28, 2021 we went to this place. We wanted to have melon mango shaved ice. The seats were full, so we ordered a to-go. We expected the shaved ice to come with a melon BUT it didn't. It was much smaller compared to what's served at the shop. We paid ~14$ + tip and I don't think it's worth the price. It would be nice if they inform us, it wouldn't come full option. read more
I ordered the strawberry item. Personally, I appreciate how the shaved ice was infused together with the strawberry flavoring which made the strawberry pink color present. The strawberry syrup that came with it was pretty interesting, a good combination of sweet and sour from the strawberry. It was okay, but I think it would be better if we good the toppings. What thing was great about it was the size, it was huge. I and two other friends were not able to finish one portion. I think if they included more toppings in the set menu, it would be a more yummy and interesting concept as a whole. read more
I only wish that Oakobing was found throughout California. By far this is the best shave ice /bingsu place I've been to. The quality of the ice is impeccable, truly angelic snow. We got the injeolmi and strawberry. Both were delicious, but the injeolmi was our favorite. Just be careful. The powder on the injeolmi can choke you up. A small price to pay for cool, delicious heaven. I highly highly highly recommend coming here while you're in the area. read more
I had to go back to try the Coconut Ice Flakes today...and well, it was every bit as good as I had hoped. Although the presentation could have been better (I definitely saw better versions of it yesterday), the dessert tasted simply heavenly! Not just the Coconut flavored shaved ice on the outside, but the actual coconut "meat" inside was incredible!! Nope, I sure don't regret making a second trip. I only wish I could have stayed in LA longer, so that I can make yet another trip. If I lived here, this would have been a serious addiction! I almost forgot...but their Injeolmi Croissant was also equally amazing! It was so soft, flakey, with a perfect amount of sweetness from the Korean rice cake inside. Everything here is just WOW. IT's AMAZING!! Got served by a really sweet woman who was attentive. Oakobing had spacious seating during COVID and we were able to sit indoors and feel comfortable while enjoying our patbingsu. The patbingsu was extremely refreshing and I loved how soft the ice was. It was not overly sweet and the condensed milk definitely helped to create the finishing touch. Mochi and red beans were an added plus but the patbingsu was already great on its own. read more

When it's hot, you know what time it is! Time for bingsu! Finally got to try out this spot while I was in LA and it was definitely worth it! Will I come back again? Yes! The store itself isn't too big, but it's decently sized with a good amount of seats. They also have seats so if you wanted to sit outside you can! When I got there on a Friday, it was decently packed but I managed to grab one of the last remaining tables outside. There is street parking and a valet parking lot nearby (I think it's valet, don't quote me on that). Don't worry too much about parking, if you don't mind walking there are plenty of spots on the street! It is metered and does cost money! As for the bingsu, I got the popular melon bingsu and pictures just do not do justice. It is huge! Like a lot bigger than I expected. It was really good though so I recommend it if you're in a decent size group (3-4) or if you're just super hungry for bingsu (2 ppl minimum). The ice was super soft and light and the melon was pretty sweet! Overall it was definitely worth the price! Next time I'll come back to try the other flavors! read more

I'm usually somewhat indifferent about Korean shaved ice, but this place is doing something right! Came on a Sunday evening after an early dinner and there were plenty of tables available. We ordered the Injeolmi Ice Flakes, which was really good. I think the shaved ice is actually flavored with some vanilla cause just by itself it was pretty good. After destroying that dessert we decided to order another and got the Black Sesame Ice Flakes. Again, destroyed that one within minutes. So good! Parking: Valet parking available in the parking structure in the back of the building. Accessible by going through the alleyway. read more

This place is ok, I give it 3.5 stars. I think it's more of a novelty dessert place that would look great for photos. We got the mango melon dessert and I thought the shaved ice was more icy than creamy? I prefer mine more creamy but this was a fruit dish so that might be the reason why. It came with condensed milk and it was more on the sweet side. Beautifully presented. read more

This was my first time having bingsu, and I'm in love. My friend and I split the oreo tiramisu one, which is milk flavored shaved ice with oreos and cheesecake and a shot of espresso on the side as well as cocoa powder dusting. This was perfect because my partner doesn't like espresso but I love it. The espresso tasted delicious and the shaved ice was amazing. It melted in my mouth like fresh powder snow. I've never had shaved ice quite like this. I would have loved to try the mango one, but it was out of season. Definitely try this place out for a cold, refreshing dessert read more

We decided to try out oakobing after kcon and it was SO busy!! We ordered a large mango melon bingsoo which came with mochi and condensed milk on the side. The shaved ice was MASSIVE and so delicious! However, the only downside was the wait was about 30 min and there's limited seating inside. read more
This review is just for the injeolmi croissant. I came with my boyfriend before dinner and really didn't feel like we could finish one of the bingsoos between the two of us, so we'll be back with other friends sometime soon for that.. Injeolmi croissant - 5/5 this is incredible!! So unique. I was absolutely blown away by the texture and the flavor. It is a croissant on the outside but has a chewy inner layer which is the injeolmi. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar and you can douse it in sweet condensed milk if you want that extra sweetness. It really all comes together, I highly recommend coming just for this, especially if you're not really into bingsoo! read more

I've been here enough times to try most of their menu and it has been a go-to spot for dessert after a satisfying meal in K-town. Always loved the lightness and subtle sweetness of the snow. However, I discovered today the texture of the snow is no longer flakey. It's now similar to the standard type of ice texture and although very fine, is icy rather than soft, milky, smooth and light the way it was before. Looks like their snow machine has been replaced and it's a rather disappointing change. See photos for comparison photos of a green tea bingsu. read more

Parking: I was able to find street parking pretty easily in the afternoon, however, another evening I tried to visit, I couldn't even get parking in their garage. Just be prepared to be patient with the parking. Food: Definitely the best bingsoo texture in LA. I'm so happy they opened a new location in Pasadena since that's much closer to me. Overall, the flavors are all great and refreshing. Also very convenient that they have single serving sizes as well, if you're dining alone or can't compromise on a flavor with friends. - Green Tea Shaved Ice (Matcha Bingsoo) Ambiance: Pretty empty and quiet during the afternoon in the summer time. Pretty clean interior and lots of seating. Service: Quick and kind workers! Even if on a busy day, it seems like the dining experience would still be pretty seamless. read more

My girlfriends and I stopped at Oakobing as part of our LA foodie tour and it did not disappoint. The Green Tea with Red Bean & Mochi was so good and this was my favorite flavor of the 3 we chose. The ice flakes were smooth, creamy & icy. I love the crisp and coldness of the ice flakes. Getting the condensed milk on the side was perfect as the ice flakes were sweet and creamy on their own. We also had the Mango & Injeolmi ice flakes. The mango had a natural mango flavor and it was very refreshing. I also liked the Injeolmi but didn't find the flavor impressive. It had a mild sweet cream flavor. We ordered the small serving and it would be plenty for 2 people to share. read more

it is actually pretty awesome!! they put them in these little paper cups and have ice packs in the packaging so they are still frozen when they arrive.
