Someone took my boyfriend's coffee when they called out his name. When I came up to ask about it, they said "Oh shoot... someone took it. That's savage." And then offered me what was supposed to be the customer's almond milk latte. The problem is my bf ordered whole milk. They did nothing to notify that customer that she had the wrong drink and could potentially have intolerance to the whole milk. As an experienced past barista: when it's busy, you recite the name of the drink to the customer when they pick it up so these mistakes are avoided. I would have absolutely chased the customer down to let them know and taken the accountability. It took them a long time to redo my bf's drink and even then they got the order wrong again, but it had been so long we just gave up on correcting it. read more

A cappuccino and a morning bun were in order when I visited this coffee roaster in Ocean Beach. It's a nice place with plenty of room and nice soft lighting. The cappuccino was terrific and offered a complex melee of flavors. It was full bodied with hints of chocolate, natural sweetness, and was very smooth. I asked for the morning bun to be warmed up, which they did, but just very well the first try. When I visit a new city, I always seek out specialty coffee. I was stoked to learn that OB Coffee Roasters was just down the street from my AirBNB, and made plans for an afternoon pick me up and stroll to the beach. The space is wide open and has a great laid back OB vibe. You can see the roasters in the back, check out merch on the wall, all before getting to the register to order. They offer espresso drinks, as well as a few blends and single origin roasts. I had to try a pourover of the Naranja, which is apparently dried with orange rinds. I definitely smelled the citrus on the nose, but I was glad it didn't impart too much flavor into the coffee itself. Prices are as you'd expect. The staff is friendly AF. They've got a great back patio and some very comfy seating. Best of all, the story of their relationships with the coffee are all over the walls to take in. You can feel good about supporting this effort, as it helps improve the quality of life for many others. read more

Since their inception, I've always been a fan of OB Beans. Their ownership have created a great environment and their farm to cup approach as well as in-house roasting is really special. Now, importantly, the coffee itself is absolutely superb and I was craving their coffee badly today and wanted ventured to OB to pick up two to-go coffees; one hot coffee and one iced Americano with an extra shot. They were both superb as usual. I feel strongly about supporting local businesses and especially ones that I feel are going about it the right way...and OB Beans continues to do that. Bright, clean, and welcoming, OB Beans lives up to its reputation. On my first visit, we waited in a sizable line; it didn't move very quickly, but when we got to the front it was clear that the speed reflected the laid-back and thoughtful ethos of the roastery. Care was taken with each drink, and the beautiful Maek Ceramics mugs invite you to order for here and stay awhile. They were sadly out of their housemade chai, but I tried a matcha latte instead; theirs was light and flavorful, and not as heavy or syrup-laden as other matchas I've sampled. The zucchini walnut bread was dense and hearty for the size of the slice. On my second visit, the latte with oat milk provided the perfect kick of caffeine and was actually super delicious (I'm not typically a fan of coffee). I was looking for someplace new for coffee beans and OB Beans came up. Since I was going to be near that OB, why not? Great open space! Lots of hipsters, but thank God there were some OB peeps! There was a time when I worked down here, in fact, the space they are in is where I use to work...LOL! I grabbed a bag of the Columbian and asked if they had any beans from Chiapas, Mexico. The friendly guy said they just roasted some and if it was okay that the bag didn't have a label. No big deal for me! The bags are 12 ounces and reasonably priced. Both taste great but the Columbian is my favorite. They have a great patio in back. Lots of seating inside. Oh, and I guess it's a shared space. There is a shaved ice bar in the front. I was visiting San Diego for my daughter's graduation ceremony for her Masters Degree and remembered I needed to purchase some whole coffee beans before returning to Arizona. I stopped into OB Beans Coffee Roasters and noticed only three different type of whole beans displayed. I asked which of the three were dark roast and I was told 'Peru'. So naturally I purchased a bag before hitting the road home. The very next morning I made Americanos for me and the wife. Let me tell you, that was some of the best dark roast coffee I had in a long time. My wife noticed some of the fruity notes right away. The notes on the bag are described as chocolate and dried fruit. I also noticed after pulling a shot of espresso, the crema had a nice caramel color. The aroma was pleasant also. I will surely purchase from them again when in San Diego. In fact, I'll be making a trip to Oceanside in a couple weeks. See you soon! read more

Honestly lattes taste super watered down. My friends and I ordered 6 lattes all watered down and 1 matcha that was so bad, sorry not sorry; each drink had a syrup or cold foam and we couldn't even taste those sweetners. I had ordered a quad shot latte and the barista definitely forgot the extra two shots that costed me an extra $2. Not worth $9 and not worth all of the hype that it's been given over the years. read more

They also have matcha for those who don't like coffee but also want to be part of the coffee crew.
