I have been coming here since I'm local and drinks have always been good. But almost every time I come in the staff makes me feel unwelcome. Usually because of the lack of attention and a constant chatter amongst themselves. It feels like I'm interrupting them to order a drink or something. I wasn't satisfied with what I got today(a very sad bagel, that I thought was from desperado bagels but it wasn't) and I asked for a refund but the cashier was very hesitant. Even though there was a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, there were always people looking for places to sit or to sit in places with outlets. Their outside patio was quite nice though. Mediocre drinks but pretty good banana bread. I've come here twice now and both times I wasn't that impressed with the quality of drinks. The service has always been okay, not too friendly and not too slow. The first time I came here I got a coffee which was pretty watered down and not very flavorful. The second time, I tried my partner's chai latte and it had the same problem. My matcha was also pretty watery but had a good earthiness that was what saved it. I'm a pretty big matcha drinker and it was definitely not ceremonial grade and not very green. The banana bread was warm and had a really good texture though so if you're going to get anything, I would suggest the banana bread. read more

I've been going here for years mostly because it's close and I'm really sad to have to write this but... Hiring a bunch of young kids may keep you "hip" but goddamn they're shit at service. When someone walks in, take their order. Don't ignore the customer and continue a conversation with your homie for 5 minutes. It's not complicated. Just take people's orders. That and the coffee has always been mediocre at best but it's slightly better than most of OB. A few more things, I'm not even criticizing them on quality, which was always all over the place, I'm not giving them 2 starts because they messed my order up, they have many times. I'm giving them 2 starts because they hire children who can't be bothered to listen to someone who isn't their friend they want to impress long enough to take an order. I order basic shit. Hands down the BEST Coffee in San Diego! The latte is always perfectly velvety & full of flavor, no sweetener needed. The staff are all helpful & chill. You can tell they actually care. I've lived in San Diego for years and although I've driven past this shop so many times, today was the first time I finally checked it out. So glad I did! Good to know OB has a great coffee stop. Anytime I go somewhere new I'll looking for three things. The first is the overall vibe of the shop, second is quality of the coffee, most importantly, I always wait to see if customer service is real and not just lip service. Happy to report all three were great! This shop has a great local Ocean Beach vibe to it with plenty of space to hangout and chill. After finding out I was there for the first time, the barista gave me plenty of time and answered all my questions, even helping me choose a drink to my liking not knowing the menu. I wish I got her name but she was awesome! Then the final test of whether or not the coffee is good and mine was great. It was a simple drink with two express shots, oat milk and a little bit of honey to sweeten it (barista recommendation) and it was great. A cute coffee shop in Ocean Beach. It's pretty big inside and there is a lot of table space, making it a great spot to plant with your laptop. It was also nice to see (at time I was visiting) the space being shared with two other small businesses. Staff greeted us at the door and took the time to genuinely ask how we were doing before we ordered, which we really appreciated. We got a dawn patrol and a caramel latte with almond milk. I've gone to this place many times as it's a wonderful hang out spot. whenever I need to get something done I always head over here and listen to music, something about the way people are always working here gets me motivated. As for the coffee itself I haven't found something that I truly enjoy yet, I've gotten their seasonal drinks, regular lattes, teas and their kombucha in the past and they haven't stuck out to me as more than your average coffee. However! I'm do always go with the peppermint latte since it has the nicest taste. The lattes always have cute designs on them and they make me smile :) Today on my stop in I purchased the "best waffle ever" as it appeared appetizing and me and my partner were looking for something to eat. The man behind the counter helped us with the questions we had and was very nice! I'll be honest I was not expecting a savory waffle but I do think that's my fault since I didn't read the description fully and was expecting more of a sweet dish. Great cafe to study and work on your laptop. Love that they have ceramic cups for here. They have your basic and classic coffee menu items plus matcha lattes. They also have some nitro coffee and kombucha on tap. I tried the hot dirty chai tea latte with their "miracle mylk" (blend of coconut cream and other non-dairy milk ingredients). The mylk was a little bitter, I wouldn't order it again. Might be better if it weren't steamed for an iced drink if you're curious to try it! read more

Proceed with extreme caution here: On June 7, 2023 I was assaulted both inside and outside of ob beans from a man I'd never seen before. Right after filing a police report that day I was then told by manager Maddie to never return even though I've been a regular here for 4 years. I've made numerous friends with the staff and regulars here, among them is Josh S who is fighting for his life. Just real sad I can't see him in the mornings there to help him through the door and see how he's doing. Throughout the years it's been a pleasure getting to know Josh, his son, and the other real ob locals. The owners and managers have no heart and if you know Josh, or myself, or are a true OB or Sd "og" I'm asking you nicely to refrain from making any coffee purchases here. Chances are if you're a regular here, they are probably indifferent to you, you're just another number, so please consider making your coffee purchases elsewhere. Something to consider also is that their coffee is not organic and by default you have to pay extra just to get milk that isn't full of steroids, pesticides and hormones. FYI, they have no cameras inside so if you unfortunately get attacked or get something stolen, there's no video, no recourse. So if some random crazy assaults you, they'll just say it's your fault and may tell you never to come back even if it's not your fault. In my opinion this shows they could care less about you, me, & even their loyal customers. Take that to heart next time you come here. In my opinion, after being assaulted here, personal safety is a major concern here. Recommendation: Find another local coffee shop like Template or Ocean Beach Coffee and plants. Again If an adult male (myself) can get assaulted inside and outside as I stepped outside than that can happen to you or anyone else. After I was assaulted I was told by the manager Maddie to never come back. I've been a loyal customer for years and the entire staff knows me. What happened? I was working on my laptop and this guy sat next to me & started making unsolicited threats to me that made no sense. He then walks away and orders coffee and I thought the situation was over. My assailant, after having a chat with a barista, walked over to me on his way out splashed their entire latte on me (see shirt below) as I was working on my "laptops". No idea who this person was. He then ambushed me outside, of course I go outside to see what the deal was, as I step outside of ob beans he clocks me with a combination (probably a boxer). We then roll around on the ground in a stalemate but he already did his damage. Thank you morning staff for cleaning up the mess. Much appreciated. Maddie told me a few hours later that I was no longer allowed to come back to Ob Beans because the staff feels unsafe? Again I was the one attacked. Their logic doesn't add up. 2 laptops destroyed, a police report filed, burning injuries from the latte. For years they've allowed volatile homeless people inside to camp out on a daily basis. About the coffee and food offering: Decent coffee, espresso drinks, & matcha latte's but forgettable pastries. Plenty of space and an outside patio, with outlets and solid wifi.
