For a place that has ridiculously high prices...it is the worst experience ever. I have had much better food and a much better experience at other places of the same value and standard. They want you to get all dressed up and classy, for NOTHING!!!! People are there after they workout or go play golf...people are dressed in jeans and a tank top, when they explicitly sent me a notification about their "strict" dress code and they have a sign out front. We came for my husband birthday. We order a lot of things off the menu to get the best of both worlds. We ordered the rhode island calamari and shrimp, the baked potato, shells and cheese, the sea scallops, and the NY strip steak. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium well, it was served to us basically raw. They offered to recook it, but at this point we were over the "experience". We waited an hour for dinner, so no I did not want to wait any longer for a new steak. The quality and food did not meet up to the standards or prices. First impression, wow. Seems like the right place at the right time. Seems classy befitting the Newport Beach vibe. Inside seating is plentiful but yet packed. Intimate yet not. The entrance greets you with valet parking, a big door and when you enter, a seafood kitchen with crustaceans on display. Lots of patrons on a Saturday night. First time here and so far, good impressions and lots still waiting for their seat. Reservation is definitely advisable. Dress up recommended. Ordered their 22oz ribeye, fanny bay oysters, and striped bass. Steak was on point, oysters good, striped bass was ok if you like more flaky fish. I think I am more a butterfish type person. The peppers were cooked/baked perfectly. However they got too complicated with it. It just wasn't it. I wouldn't order this again. King crab legs. I mean what's not to like? King crab and butter. Quality dining worth every cent. I made reservations for my brother's birthday and from the moment I made my online reservation. I was contacted twice to ensure that they had all the details necessary to make the dinner celebration a special and memorable time. Fom the moment we arrived onto the property valet was offered, and a doorman stood in the front to welcome us into the establishment. After confirming our reservations with the hostess, we were seated promptly and were given in my opinion the best table in the dining room, which was right next to the fireplace right in front of the beautiful pool. There were six of us and two of those were young kids and the staff went out of their way to make everyone, including the kids, feel comfortable and well taken care of. Normally, when we dine with our kids, the wait staff typically does not interact with our kids, but the staff here really made my kids feel accepted and a part of the dinner celebration. Our main server was Aubrey and she was absolutely phenomenal. She was funny, professional, knowledgeable, and created the perfect experience for my family. Since this was our first time dining at Ocean 48. Aubrey took the time to walk us through the menu and provided the specials and most popular entrées. Her attentiveness and flow of the courses were perfect, and my brother felt so special and the food was exquisite. We ordered a lot of things and for me what stood out was the Branzino and the yellowtail crudo although everything was absolutely delicious. Ambiance: Left blinds open so there was sunlight which really doesn't set the tone for a luxury dinner Food: Honestly great! Compliments to the chef! Service: Really problematic across the board. It was a Monday night and it was not particularly busy. First of all, when we got to our seats, they had set the food trays out in such a haphazard way that we just couldn't access our table. Then the host moved one and only one of us could sit, as I was awkwardly standing. We didn't get water or menus for 20 minutes and the waiter didn't take our dinner order until about 45-50 minutes of sitting. The food came out fast, but for the following 2 hours there was basically no check-in for dessert menu or check, as other waiters kept asking us if we wanted boxes as we were actively eating and drinking wine. By the time our waiter came by our table to check for dessert/give us the menu, the entire restaurant had cleared out and it was uncomfortable having all tables cleaned up while we were sitting and not being tended to. Overall, not going to tell someone not to go here but I do feel like for a place that has a dress code and a luxury tag, the service should match what the customer pays. read more

We had an amazing experience celebrating my wife's birthday at Ocean 48. Minju was a great server throughout the night and always checked in on us. The crispy shrimp deviled eggs were delicious. The creamy egg complemented with the crispy shrimp, which were flavorful. The torch scallops and caviar were exquisite and tasted fresh. Au gratin potatoes were creamy and full of garlic aroma. My bone in KC strip was very plentiful at 18 ounces which I requested to be medium rare. Every bite was flavorful from the outside crust and tender beef. To top off the night, we were treated to a delicious celebratory dessert. We sat at a table nearby the pool area, which had a blue Aurora to it. We came in for a surprise birthday party and Aubrey helped us pull it off. We pulled up to valet parking and were greeted outside the front door, inside the door we were ask for name of party, by the hostess at the desk and taken us by a third person through the maze of booths, tables and turns with a full length seafood prep station. All fresh oysters, scallops, lobster and crab piled high on mountains of crushed ice through a floor to ceiling glass. Past the bar that looks to seat maybe 20, to our private room. Intimate, yet the length and width of the space allowed us to all be heard when speaking to the room. The group had to be just about at capacity for the room and the movement of serving crew had to be well coordinated. And it was. Although we had a fixed menu, it still gave us several wonderful options and included fresh baked bread served to each table. The hors d'oeuvres were a spicy fried shrimp. Very tasty and sought out by all at our table. The meatballs that also came were large, moist and perfectly cooked. However the amount of raw garlic overwhelmed the flavor. We had the option of Caesar salad or a strawberry, Greek salad with cranberries, spinach and feta. Nice. The protein was salmon or steak. Filet mignon or boneless New York strip. My wife had the filet, butterflied and cooked medium. I had the New York strip. The steaks were served on a 500 degree plate that seemed to toughen the steak's exterior. My steak was cooked perfectly medium as requested. The meal was accompanied with parmesan broccoli florets, mashed potatoes and Bruléd sweet corn. They each sizzled when they hit the plate as each were shared at the table. The food remained hot the entire meal. Desert was sorbet or a caramel whipped cream butter cake. I chose the cake! I did have to get it 'to go'. I took a quick tour of the restaurant and its beautiful decor secured my desire to return as a couple or a smaller (single table) group in the near future. I was really impressed by the number of staff that contacted us during our visit. And I understand how employee cost can make or break an upscale restaurant. I can't speak to the value of the dinner as we were simply guests of the party and we didn't have alcohol. This location, service and ambiance assure you that a great memory will be had. read more

This was hands down the best steak experience we've ever had! We were celebrating our anniversary and had pre-arranged for rose petals and a large floral arrangement from our personal florist to be delivered the day before our reservation. The team thoughtfully set up the rose petals prior to our arrival, which made the evening feel incredibly special. We were greeted by Aubre, our waitress, and she was absolutely amazing--truly exceptional service. She offered fantastic recommendations and convinced us to try the A5 Japanese Wagyu steak, which was unforgettable. We also started with the bacon (delicious) and enjoyed the sweet corn and mashed potatoes as sides. To top it off, the GM wrote us a personal anniversary letter, and Aubre presented a beautifully prepared dessert. My partner was genuinely impressed (and that's not easy to do). Finally able to try this place so I came for my birthday. Beautiful restaurant but ask to sit in a pretty area because we were all the way in the back order of a room with really no view. The service is top notch! The food was really good but it's definitely on the pricier side for sure!! So, if you can afford it, go. Otherwise, it'll only be once in awhile for sure. The rolls are delicious and comes out warm. I don't usually eat bread but these are a must. I got the peppered tuna(62) which was really good and I liked the sauces it comes with. The roasted cauliflower (21) was also really good. Friends got the lobster(110) which is obviously delicious and the crab& shrimp mac& cheese(52) was really good. What can I say about this place? Well first the service is amazing! Very attentive and one of the workers there gave us a tour of the restaurant after we had dinner. They had private tables that were off the glass kitchen and you could see into the kitchen while they were working. Kinda like Hells Kitchen. No extra cost to you just need to ask for the view. They also have the pool room that was very intimate and quiet to where it was easier to hear your party. Then the whiskey room. Wish I got more pictures. Now let's move onto the food. We had the thick cut hanging bacon. What can I say it's bacon so it's going to be great anyway. But this was thick cut and had a delicious glaze on it. Next we had oysters on a half shell. Again very good and they had several different sauces, champagne mignonette and one other. All amazing and the oysters also came with lemon, and hot sauce as well. Deeeeeelicious! Then I had the wedge BLT which was amazing. If you like blue cheese you're gonna LOVE this! Packed with flavor from the blue cheese heirloom tomatoes and chopped thick cut bacon. Oceans 48 features unique surf and turf creations along with a most sumptuous, elegant vibe, as evidenced by its raw bar display and poolside centerpiece in their dining room that greets you upon entering the space. The restaurant is located in Fashion Island with plenty of parking, although valet is also available for $10. We started off with the Chicken Fried Maine Lobster Tails which is exactly how it's described. Crispy fried breading, reminiscent of your favorite Southern fried chicken, surrounding succulent lobster tail, what more could you ask for? The Torched Scallops with Caviar Crudo is also an amazing, with an explosion of delicious umami flavors. For our main, we got the 22 oz. bone-in rib eye which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and served on a hot plate. Fun fact, the owners of Ocean 48 are the original owners of Mastro's, so you can expect to find the similar level of quality that you might remember in the past (not talking about these days, but that's a story for another day.) Alongside that we ordered the Corn Creme Brûlée and Boursin Cheese Whipped Potatoes, both of which made excellent accompaniments. Fantastic place for a romantic dinner with a special someone or if you're looking to wine and dine some family members and/or close friends that may be visiting from out of state. And the presentation of each dish was even more impressive especially the bone marrow. Here's what we tried. 1. Colossal roasted bone marrow: MUST order!!!!! To be honest it's not much bone marrow (maybe 4-6 pieces at most) but the show is worth the order. Seasoned with black truffle aioli and three cheese toast. 2. Superfood salad: fantastic salad. Waiter actually split our dishes into two plates as he noticed we were sharing everything (very thoughtful!). Base was baby lettuce with mixed berries (blueberries and blackberries-my fav), creamy goat cheese, Sriracha, sunflower seeds topped with champagne fig dressing ...yummy. Must order. 3. Wild caught Hokkaido Island sea scallops: you get six jumbo sized scallops. Perfectly cooked and juicy with light flavoring. 4. Several choices for craveable sides: we chose the shell + cheese (Mac n cheese with shell pasta) and sautéed wild mushrooms (lightly seasoned with parsley and thyme). Both sides were phenomenal especially the mushrooms. Please get the mushrooms. Oh yes they also serve Parker house rolls which were delicious. Overall very good food. So, recommendations include: to start, a dozen raw oysters, half dozen oysters Rockefeller, chicken fried lobster tails (interestingly good), calamari, crispy shrimp, crispy shrimp deviled eggs. Entrees: filet mignon, bone-in ribeyes, bone-in KC strip, branzinos. Sides: king crab mac and cheese, corn creme brûlée, asparagus, roasted Brussels sprouts, and of course the house skillet bread for both an appetizer and side. For dessert, my favorite, the triple chocolate bombé plus the beignet tower. Everything was delicious, and I certainly feel like I missed a couple of dishes we ordered, but my personal highlights were the branzino, asparagus, crab mac, and triple bombé. Drinks were fun! When I heard that Ocean 48 was considered the "next generation" concept of the same family that founded the OG Mastro's restaurants..I HAD TO TRY IT! Mastros has always been my #1 fav steakhouse hands down..mmm..that buttercake drools (The Capital Grille in Costa Mesa a close second)..until now. Dare I say that Ocean 48 officially took its top spot in my books?!?! Ocean 48 is located in Fashion Island, by Red O. It is definitely an upscale, luxurious fine-dining steak & seafood restaurant in Newport Beach. Known for its high-quality ingredients, vibrant and elegant atmosphere, it surely is an experience you must try for yourself. As you walk up to the restaurant, the waterfall wall is very Mastros déjà vu. As you enter the restaurant, the elaborate show kitchen is on full display with the array of fresh seafood for your viewing pleasure. I had made a rezo for my birthday family celebration on OpenTable for an early 6:15 pm dinner slot on a Monday, yet it was still pretty poppin'/busy. The staff at the check-in counter was friendly and seated us fairly quickly. We were ultimately seated in the fancy Scotch room..which decor-wise, looked cool. The dress code is strictly enforced, as I got a couple text & email reminders..so heads up. I've seen pics of an indoor reflection pool too, on their website, however, I didn't get a glimpse of it in person..darn..next time. The complementary bread is like crack..sooo yums! Pro tip: Ask for butter..it's clutch. My daughter & I decided to start our meal by sharing a New England clam chowder, which they kindly split into 2 portions (for no extra charge). The hubs and I also got the colossal shrimp cocktail app. At a hefty price of $13 EACH, we just tried one each. While it was pretty big and juicy sweet, idk if I'd pay that price again. My son and I wanted to try the raw oysters, but at $5 a pop, uhhh..we'll pass. EMC seafood (and other seafood restaurants) is much cheaper for A DOZEN! My mini-me and I also decided to share a 22 oz ribeye (medium rare of course..which they also offered to split into 2 portions, which makes it very convenient) and my hubs & son each got the filet mignon cut. The family all shared the many yummy sides ~ corn crème brûlée (which was melt in your mouth BOMB, roasted brussel sprouts w/ bacon (which I thought was meh..I could've done without or chosen something else) and sautéed wild mushrooms (which was quite flavorful). Since it was my birthday, the restaurant gave me a sweet HBD card and let me choose a dessert of my choice, as a special treat ~ at the end of the meal. Because of him, I got one poached lobster tail paired with one crabcake. The crabcake was shockingly good; I'm from Maryland and it was equal to mine. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his delicious sea bass (caught off the coast of Santa Barbara) topped with king crab. The biggest surprise was the corn Brulé, which was simply delicious. Convenient little de-shelled pieces with a variety of dipping sauces. The Crispy Shrimp Deviled Eggs were pretty good. The Prime Steakhouse Meatballs were good. The fries were good. The complimentary bread was fine but you should ask for a side of butter. The Stone Fruit Martini was great. The bottle of Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc was great. The coffee is great (and quick to arrive). The side dishes... Shells and Cheese was my favorite. Sauteed Wild Mushrooms were good. Corn Creme Brulee was good but a bit too sweet, maybe next time try the sauteed sweet corn. Creamed Spinach and Artichoke was good but I didn't care for the smoked garlic flavor in it. Next time we'd like to try the Au Gratin Potatoes. The Petite Filet Mignon was excellent, cooked a perfect medium rare. It was enough for the two of us to share because we got so many side dishes. We didn't even experiment with any of the Enhancements options for the steak. It didn't need it. Another time we tried the off menu Wagyu New York Steak. It was wonderfully tender Wagyu. They also have an off menu ribeye cap that we might try next time. If it's your birthday you get to choose any dessert you want. The donut holes were good and come with caramel dipping sauce. Came in on a reservation with my wife to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taken to our table, where the host brought us an envelope wishing us a happy anniversary from the general manager and the team, followed by our server congratulating us as well as the assistant server. Definitely was not expecting that but we appreciated greatly. Our server began by going over the drink menu and making recommendations, my wife went with the Seaside Margarita and I went with the New York Sour. Both were delicious, and those became the drink of the night. We got the ball rolling on appetizers and got the Yellowtail Himachi and the colossal bone marrow. Both were delicious and when they say colossal, be prepared because it's HUGE. Once we got to the entrees and sides we ordered the Golden New York Strip Wagyu, the Seared Ahi Tuna, Boursin cheese whipped potatoes, and the king crab + shrimp + shells + cheese. When I tell you everything was incredible I'm not exaggerating. The food was so so so good. Moving on to dessert! We ordered the Peanut butter pie, and the key lime pie which was complimentary (really nice of them to do that) the creamy-ness and the flavor were way above our expectations. I can't forget to mention how nice the interior of the restaurant is, there is a pool right in the center of the restaurant that adds to the ambiance. Think a little bit of Miami vibes. Always a 5-star experience when I come to Ocean48. This is easily my favorite restaurant. The service is consistently top tier and the attention to detail never disappoints. My go-to favorites are the caviar cones, A5 Japanese wagyu, and the creamed corn..all absolutely incredible. I also love that the plates come out sizzling and keep the food hot right at the table. Filet mignon 4/5 - this was cooked well. I like the crispiness of the outer part of the steak. Very tender in the center. Mash potatoes were so good! I really enjoyed it. Nothing special with the Brussels sprouts. I also tried the fish but it was a bit dry so that was disappointing as this is a seafood restaurant We came for a wedding reception here and the staff were all very friendly. We actually dined here over the Holidays for our Anniversary and we had a really nice time! They were extremely organized in getting people seated even though it was crowded with Reservations. Our Server was amazing and explained items on the menu in detail and recommendations. The Salmon, Chilean Sea Bass and Crab Cakes were all delicious! I gave Ocean 48 a second chance after a rocky first visit,and im glad i did, the bar totally redeemed the place. Started with a seaside margarita that tasted like a vacation, salty and refreshing. Followed it with the spicy margarita, which had the perfect kick without being overdone, then the blueberry lemon sour mocktail, which was the right balance of sweet,tart and smooth. All three were spot on, credit to the bartender. Food wise, i went with the prime steakhouse meatballs and the blistered shishito peppers. The meatballs weren't my thing, im not i to cheese stuffed in the middle, but they were cooked well. The peppers, though,were addicting, smoky, blistered just right, and sprinkled with a lemon sauce. The bar itself is gorgeous, fun vibe, beautifully decorated and perfect for watching football without feeling cramped into a sports bar. Service across the board was top notch, promt, welcoming and easy to deal with. Ocean 48 impressed me this time. read more

This was our first visit to Ocean 48. We had the rolls, lobster rolls appetizer, steak, lobster, shrimp enhancements, Boursin whipped potatoes, and dessert. Their "butter" cake was the best. I definitely want to come back and try more of their seafood. We sat in a booth comfortably with 4 people. They have valet parking available and plenty of regular parking in the nearby mall area. Our waiter was excellent as well. For those who enjoy Mastro's, you will love this place for all the steak and seafood options. read more

Ocean 48 came highly recommended from a colleague, but they truly exceeded my expectations. Starting with the ambiance- the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and staff were all excellent. We started with a drink at the bar where the bartender made good conversation/jokes and one of the best spicy skinny margaritas I have ever had. My husband was also very happy with his old fashioned. When our table was ready, we weren't quite done with our drinks and the hostess carried them to our table for us (nice touch!) We were sat in the pool room, which was stunning. Our waitress was very personable and attentive, yet gave us enough space to enjoy our dinner. The food was not rushed- they gave us time to enjoy our drinks and bread/appetizer before bringing the main course. The food was incredible. Unfortunately I didn't get great photos as we were enjoying our meal, but we had the Rhode Island calamari, new bedford sea scallops, bone-in ribeye, corn crème brûlée (so unique!) and the au gratin potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. For dessert they brought us the ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake with a "Happy Anniversary" message. The manager even hand wrote us a card congratulating us on 13 years of marriage- again, such a nice touch to make a memorable experience. I cannot wait to visit again and try other dishes. My husband and I spent the night in Newport Beach this past weekend and decided to finally see what all the hype was about at Ocean 48. We were lucky enough to snag a 10 p.m. reservation. It was definitely late, but we figured we'd give it a try and we're so glad we did! Our server, Zander (I hope I'm spelling his name correctly), was outstanding. From the moment we sat down, he was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive. Since it was our first time there, he took the time to walk us through the menu and made sure we were comfortable with everything we ordered. We each started with cocktails, and he genuinely cared that I liked mine, which was a nice touch. Because it was so late, my husband and I decided to share our meal. He's a big seafood fan (I'm not as much), so he ordered the grilled octopus and a Florida stone crab. We also shared the pork chop and the crème brûlée creamed corn, OMG, it was absolutely delicious. Even though we were already completely full, Zander convinced us to try dessert, and we're glad he did. We chose the warm cake topped with ice cream, candied pralines, and a mountain of whipped cream. I swear, I wanted to dive right into that dessert. Overall, the restaurant is magnificent. The aesthetic is stunning, one area even has a reflecting pool surrounded by dining tables, which creates a beautiful atmosphere. We were seated in a more private section called the "kitchen tables," which we loved. The bar area is also gorgeous. We couldn't believe it was our first time visiting, but it definitely won't be our last. We'll absolutely be back! read more

My dad requested we go to Ocean 48 for Father's Day and his birthday this year so we obliged. I booked a reservation for 7 people via OpenTable and received multiple reminders about the dress code, so I made sure everyone was dressed in our Sunday best. They had extended hours for Father's Day, which was a great since they're usually only open in the evenings. We booked the first seating at noon. Parking is easy to find around Fashion Island. The nearest free parking is by Red O and just a short walk over. If you prefer to valet, you can pull right up in front of Ocean 48. The valet attendants were incredibly kind and helpful especially with my elderly grandfather, assisting him in and out of the vehicle. Overall, it was exciting to dine at Ocean 48. One of the newer hotspots in Fashion Island. We were seated in the pool room at a round table tucked into a little nook, which felt special and more private. The ambience here is elevated and each room has a different feeling to it. We ordered several dishes, mostly appetizers, steak and sides to share (everything is à la carte). My favorites were complimentary bread, the shells + cheese, and the Superfood salad. The steak was fine. Cocktails were tasty, though pricey at $20+ each. A small issue came up with our leftovers after we got home, so I emailed the restaurant. The manager, Anthony, called me shortly after. He was kind, apologetic, and open to feedback which I really appreciated. I returned more recently with just my mom for drinks and appetizers. We reserved a high-top in the bar area, which unfortunately was placed in a high-traffic aisle. I had read that guests weren't supposed to stand around the bar unless seated, but a large group was congregating there anyway, making the space feel very cramped. It was so tight we could clearly hear their entire conversation, and I started to worry about safety as staff had to squeeze past them carrying hot plates. Eventually, a manager stepped in and politely guided them to their actual table. I later shared this feedback with Ocean 48 as well. My main critique is the inconsistency between how the restaurant is marketed and what's enforced. They position themselves as upscale, but I noticed many guests wearing printed t-shirts, shorts, hats, and athleisure, despite the dress code policy. For the pricing and branding, I expected more consistent standards not just in service, but in guest experience and overall polish. The food is good, but nothing really stands out to me though that may be my bias as seafood & steakhouses aren't my thing. I will say all the people who work here seem to care about giving an experience for their customers. That said, we had a lovely Father's Day, and my dad and grandpa enjoyed it most, which is what mattered. I do think Ocean 48 has potential, but at this price point, I want to walk away feeling impressed not questioning whether it was worth it. read more
