I finally got to try Ocean Cafe today after reading raving reviews on both Yelp and Google. This hole in the wall location is a hidden gem for some of the best breakfast/lunch food in San Diego for very reasonable prices! I got the PB Chocolate Banana protein smoothie with an added shot of espresso for much needed energy. This beauty was rich, thick, and kept me full and energized for hours. I also got a regular croissant which was IMMACULTE. The pastry was so flaky and delicious - can't wait to come back to try the croissant sandwiches! Lifehack- you can schedule deliveries on Doordash (and probably other services.) I ordered Ocean Cafe as the sun was starting to rise. Not because I was up early ready to take on the day. It was my last bit of hope to get a little bit of sleep after a night of insomnia. I knew I'd need some motivation to get up if I fell asleep and wouldn't want to cook. So I placed that scheduled order. Sent it as a gift to my boyfriend so he would get the notification it was delivered/on the way. Perfectly executed plan. I woke up to croissant sandwiches (very good), smoothies (looooved the acai one, peach one was okay), and coffee. Coffee was just okay- I was thankful for caffeine, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to fuel up here. The smoothie was the star of the show and will for sure be scheduled for a delivery order again one day. The convenience level is insane- that's one perk about living in 2022! read more

The best açaí bowls can be found here! I like to get the Hawaiian Bowl with peanut butter and hemp seed add ons. The açaí purée is just açaí and not mixed with who knows what. It doesn't have added sugar. That makes me feel good when I eat it. The regular size is generous but I will order the larger size to go if I am going home. The Hawaiian Bowl has strawberries, bananas, blueberries, pineapple, mangoes, granola, coconut, and honey. Everything tastes so fresh! I will also get a Bulletproof coffee with my açaí bowl. It has MCT coconut oil and cinnamon blended in. The coffee is nice and strong, highly recommended to start the day. read more

Looking for a non-dairy/soy, meal replacement protein smoothie I stumbled upon Ocean Cafe, very close to Garnett St and Trader Joes in Pacific Beach. Walking in, the shop was very clean and well decorated with a beachy vibe but the staff and customers were all speaking what i thought to be Portuguese which felt a little unwelcoming as they finished their conversations then greeted me in English. The owner was very nice, however, and answered all my questions about the proteins, shake flavors and so on. I ordered a large oatmeal cookie protein shake made with pea protein and added spinach for around $8, and was pleasantly full by the end of it. It tasted like an Herbalife shake + PB2 but the brand was nothing I had ever heard of and definitely not soy based. I worked on my laptop with their free wifi as I finished my smoothie but didn't feel super comfortable being the only customer there and having them all speaking a different language and watching my actions. Coming off as super self conscious but usually I don't care about this stuff it was just not a comfortable vibe for me so I left. Don't regret trying this place, the smoothie was tasty and refreshing, and about what I'd pay for a meal anyways. I wouldn't write home about it but if you're a local it's a cool spot to try, especially because they have a private parking lot and comparable wellness shot and green juice prices. They also serve coffee tea and basic smoothies here, ranging from $3-9. Locals, give em a try. read more

Stopped here after lunch with my friend and her son. It was a little tricky to find since there is no sign on the outside of the building, just the building number. The staff was very friendly and we waited maybe 5-7 mins for 3 drinks. Their Vietnamese drip coffee is strong and delicious. We sat around for about an hour chatting and it was the perfect little place to hang out. Parking seems tough for the area and it looked like a lot of people walked in. read more

Another day, another açaí bowl! This time we checked out Ocean Cafe. It was actually recommended by a friend that used to live in the area and told us that it was super legit and that they were probably the best açaí bowl place in San Diego. We wanted to see what he was talking about! Obviously we got açaí bowls, but there were so many other things on the menu that seemed amazing like their sandwiches, and their shakes and smoothies! Now onto the açaí bowls themselves... FANTASTIC! Every component was super fresh, and it amazed me on how fresh, and "real" the açaí was! Even the fruit were super juicy and sweet. However, I do prefer my açaí as more of a sorbet or frozen yogurt, and nice and cold. But at this place, the açaí had more of a melted ice cream consistency which was at room temp. Don't get me wrong, it was super tasty and refreshing, but I do prefer it when the açaí is colder and more of a sorbet consistency. Another thing to add on was that the fruit felt somewhat warm, like it was at room temperature, and the granola wasn't too crunchy, it had more of a lighter and softer texture. Overall, everything was really good, the staff were super nice and pleasant, and I was pretty satisfied. In the end, I just love açaí bowls... probably as much as I love bubble tea! read more

I like what they have done to this place. It's a cool casual place with a touch a trendiness and it's well lit. I stopped in for some early morning grub and not having any breakfast sandwiches, I settled for the OC Sandwich with a iced organic green tea. The tea cost $2.45 and the sammi $6.50, both were quite reasonable. The OC came with a quality sliced turkey, spinach, cheddar cheese, tomato, avocado, and mayo & olive oil to dress it up. I would of preferred a whole wheat or multigrain bread, but they only had an artisan white so I had to roll with that. Also, I was bummed because I forgot to change up my cheese, which you can do. The sandwich was quite tasty and I really enjoyed the turkey and the quality of the white bread was quite evident. However, I could not noticed that the sandwich needed some texture. Perhaps some thinly sliced onions or peppers would suffice. The OC was partially heated as well with gave the cheese a semi melted appearance and warm bread. Both the spinach and tomatoes were fresh and tasted great. I appreciated the fact that they did not overdue on the mayo, but I have no problem bring on the olive oil. The iced organic green tea was fabulous. It was refreshing and offered great flavor with not hint of bitterness. This is a family run business. In addition to their great hospitality, they offer Acai bowls, smoothies, coffees, protein shakes, and bagels & croissants. Very nice people. read more

Not filling and not worth $9. Also the turkey wasn't good quality. I'm so sad to say that even Jersey mikes is better (though I'd really prefer to support local small business). Your experience depends on who is working sadly. Would have given a 5 star review yesterday on 7/21 (didn't get a chance) when the lovely lady working was outstandingly accommodating and helpful. The food was delicious. It was such a nice experience that we decided to come back today 7/22. Yes we got there 10-15 minutes before closing. We just wanted a couple of smoothies. No one greeted us at first then this girl named "Gio" (name she gave me) greeted us by saying her kitchen was closed and she can make coffee and drinks. We asked if she could make crossaints or bowls and she once again said her kitchen was closed and can't make any food that uses blenders etc. I then asked if she could make smoothies and she said "MAM I told you my kitchen is closed" She was rude and upset from the time we walked in. We decided to take our business elsewhere as she clearly didn't want our business. She was more worried about going home.
