Ocean cyclery has been mysterious to me all these time while I drive by the neighborhood for years. When I said mysterious because I never thought I would start cycling some day and I have never checked it out, but finally I did because the time finally came. Better yet, he addresses all concerns and really takes the time to answer all questions. I remember when I first bought my bike from him 2 years ago, I wanted to address any issues regarding security. We exhaustively went through the pros and cons of every Kryptonite U-Lock that he offered until I decided on one that I thought suited my needs. Got my 26 year old commuter MTB tuned up at Ocean Cyclery, and it was like getting a new bike. Jeff and his staff did a great job addressing 7-8 years of deferred maintenance, replacing worn parts but also meticulously cleaning and repairing my original shifters instead of pushing me to buy new ones. Jeff is the owner and he runs the shop with a sort of iron, but compassionate fist of tyranny. Not only did he help me out when I got my saddle, seatpost, light, and saddle bag with all the goodies stolen, but he also understands the plight in which I go through when working and locking up downtown. Because the ever present thieves give zero bucks about how hard couriers, messengers, and other delivery service people work and depend on their bikes to work as hard as we do, I'm glad there are shops like Ocean that exist that share sympathies with the common cyclist. I'm a newbie to cycling and have a old, yet beloved, bike that is not necessarily the most hip. I'll admit I am getting a little tired of the 'tude in this city. So - my partner's even older and less hip bike needed new tires, we live near Ocean, and in we went... Omg - these folks are great. Wonderful advice, no attitude, good tips, great local vibe. At no extra charge they fixed a few problems left over from the dismissive jerks at Mikes Bikes in palo alto (another story.) Jeff and Mike were helpful, direct, kind and on top of it. I love this store! The owner, Jeff, is very knowledgeable about bikes of any sort. We bought a hybrid bicycle there a while ago, for a very reasonable price ( I should use it more, but that's another story). The store has done a few repairs for us. The last one was for the wooden "like a bike" for our son, he is very attached to it and it looked like the bike could not be fixed. Jeff saved the day, repaired it and it is like new again. As a parent of students in a San Francisco public school, I want to acknowledge Ocean Cyclery. Not only did they sell me a great bike at a more than reasonable price. Got a floor bike pump the other day and it didn't fit my tube (I found it out after took it back home) - one of my friend didn't believe me and tried to put it on and pulled it out too hard that the valve got broken - of course along with a flat tire. So we took the bike and the pump back to the store and explained what happened. So we figured the floor pump was defected - the owner simply took my return and gave me a new inner tube for free!( they have a return&exchange policy within 3 days of purchase with receipt) They have been so nice during the process! ( I visited the shop a couple times already and they are always nice!) Definitely will come back to help their business for my bike issues! read more

Never was into cycling, last time I bought a bike it was when I was 16 or so a mountain bike. So I got thebug to get a road bike, for cardio mostly and as an alternative to running. Came to the shop and checked out bikes, got some good info from the employees and had my eye on a Fuji. I went home, thought about it came back looked at it and went home again and thought about it. Big investment, and I needed time to consider and was pleased that no one pushed me to get it let me ride it, and still went home and thought about it. Jeff and Sabina take a lot of pride in customer service, and hire people who are both skilled and friendly. More importantly, there were no problems after the tune-up. We live nearby and it was very convenient. Jeff the owner is an amazing mechanic. I don't believe anyone takes as much time to true a wheel set as Jeff. That said, Jeff is such a meticulous and a perfectionist that if you'd like something overnight... probably better be patient.
