The Ocean Hai is an Asian fusion restaurant in the New Clearwater Beach Wyndham Hotel. The hotel is new and the restaurant is fun and upbeat. My husband and I were excited to see the Omakase ($75.00 per person) option on the menu. After a long day it was nice to sit back and let the Chef surprise us. I made a request that red meat not be included in our selections since we visited a steak house the day before. All of the 6 selections were delectable and rolled out of the kitchen beautifully timed. This really enhanced our dining experience. I recommend dinning this way at the Ocean Hai. Everything from the atmosphere, food, view, and services was great! I was SUPER EXCITED to see an omakase option on the menu. I was even more excited when it wasn't a set menu so I could request dishes on the menu that I wanted to try anyways! For $75 you get 6 courses and you get to possibly pick out the items on the menu you want.... this is unheard of! My boyfriend also added a wine pairing for only $25! Such a great deal, usually wine pairings are $75 +! We ate: Edamame- This is complimentary and was sprinkled with black salt and sesame oil! Crab Wonton- This was the amuse bouche and was very good since it had real crab in it! Oysters- We got two different kinds of oysters with a mignonette. Both were very fresh tasting and great with the mignonette. Watermelon Salad- This was sooooo freaking delicious. It has compressed watermelon with pickled rind and cheese. I loved this one so much we actually ordered an additional one after we finished the meal! Its a light and fresh dish, especially if you love watermelon! Misa Soup- They pour the soup table side in a bowl with a mussel and tofu. This is not like any miso soup I've had before. It has a sour taste to it like hot and sour soup. My boyfriend loved this one! I liked it but wasn't my favorite because I', not a fan of the sour flavor. I do like how it had stuff in it. I love a miso soup with add-ins! Mussels- These were very flavorful in the red curry broth. We both ate up every single but of the sauce with the bread! Sea Bass- This was served with forbidden rice and mushrooms and snap peas and my favorite part of the meal. I LOVE sea bass and I don't see it much in Tampa area restaurants. Whenever I do see it though, thats what I order! This was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and everything tasted like heaven together! Lamb- I don't usually order lamb. I'm glad this came on my plate because YUM! I don't eat lamb much but this was so tender and paired really good with the sauces that came on the plate. I have no idea what the sauces were but they were good! This came with eggplant and bok choy! Dessert- We had a trio of desserts! Banana/ Nutella spring roll, ginger ice cream, and a mango tapioca pudding. They were all unique and a nice sweet treat! My favorite was the mango tapioca! Hearts of Palm- After the meal I wanted another watermelon salad and decided to try this too! This was also a very light plate with amazing flavors for such simple ingredients! We are definitely coming back and bring friends! We also had a seat next to the window with a gorgeous view of the sunset! Let's start with the lady who greeted us. We came in as soon as the restaurant opened and the lady said they didn't have any room since we didn't make reservations so she offered us the sushi bar to seat. We accepted thinking there would be a line behind us. Only 3 tables were filled when we left! She clearly didn't want us to there. That was ridiculous of her! Food was very meh, sushi rice was falling apart, it wasn't bad but definitely not good. For $20 per sushi roll I expected more. We stopped by here for their Sunday brunch because we'd heard great things about the view - boy, were our expectations exceeded! We were seated outside and the view was gorgeous. It's located in a high end hotel in Clearwater beach, so if you're trying to beat the crowds I would get there early OR option Ocean Hai outside of tourist season. We were giving brunch menus and I opted for the buffet because I couldn't choose what to eat. I would have liked to have the coffee included, but it was charged separately from my meal. The buffet was nice for the price, and included cold options, hot options, proteins, cereals, a charcuterie, waffles, fruits, you name it, it was probably there. The service for the other people at my table that didn't get the buffet was fast and friendly, and our server was very attentive. The pricing was a little high, but we knew that walking in. Again, it's in a nice hotel in a touristy drag of Clearwater. The parking gets validated at the hostess stand if you need it. Ocean Hai is a one of a kind, top notch, upscale, hot, new, Asian Fusion Restaurant located in the newly built Wyndham Grand Resort on Clearwater Beach. If you sit on the outdoor covered balcony, you can enjoy beautiful views of Clearwater Beach, Pier 60, and even a nice sunset if you time your visit just right! Ocean Hai does take reservations but they are not required. We were greeted by concierge and seated in a comfy booth without any wait, with no reservations! The decor of the restaurant is very modern, open, and chic. We ordered the Hai Roller Deluxe Sushi Roll which featured a Lobster Salad, topped with Sriracha,Truffles, and Beef Carpaccio, the Yamada Deluxe Sushi Roll which featured Yellow Tail Tuna, topped with Sweet Chili Blue Crab, Lemon Zest, Fried Onions, and Lime Mayo, and Chinese Meatballs, which featured Pork, Crispy Onions, Serrano, and Hoisin. The Chinese Meatballs featured 5 large meatballs, had a nice flavoring, and was very filling. The Hai Roller & Yamada Rolls were both very tasty. However, the Hai Roller was my favorite dish of the night. On another occasion, I had their Tandoori Spiced Scallops with Cauliflower-Yogurt Puree, Florets, and Crispy Chick Peas, Chilean Seabass with Baby Bok Choy, Jasmine Rice, and Black Bean Sauce, Rack of Lamb with Wasabi Crust, Braised Leeks, Japanese Eggplant, and Pan Juices, Lobster Fried Rice with Saffron Rice, and Sunny Side Egg, Baby Beets with Ginger Coffee Soil, Mizuna, Goat cheese, & Caramelized Onion Spring Roll, and Fried Brussel Sprouts with Wasabi Peas, Shallots, Shitakes, & Nuoc Cham. Of those, I most highly recommend the Tandoori Spiced Scallops, Chilean Seabass, and Fried Brussel Sprouts while I would recommend skipping the Lobster Fried Rice, Baby Beets, and Rack of Lamb. Our order came out in under 10 minutes and service was friendly and informative. Unfortunately there is no parking lot on site for guests to use. The valet charge is a hefty $25 and the restaurant will not validate the charge for dining there, so I'd recommend finding street parking nearby, although finding a parking spot can be a challenge on the beach. Really delicious place to go for dinner. The togarashi tuna salad is on the larger size & perfect for sharing. Crab Rangoon's were tasty and also a great sharing appetizer. Also tried the shrimp fried rice and some sushi rolls. The nigiri pieces really shined, the fish was very fresh. Although i will say they were very small nigiri pieces . Service was great. Our server Alex was super friendly, helpful and attentive. Yes its more on the expensive side but to me thats to he expected from a hotel restaurant. The quality of the food was very good so i felt good about what i paid . Nice wine selection and they make a good Old fashioned . I received a gift card to Ocean Hai and thought it was a great opportunity to have a romantic dinner with my boyfriend. While the interior is spectacular (a cool blend of modern and beachy) we just HAD to sit outside on account of the unbeatable oceanfront view. It was hot but worth it! First off, we're not sushi eaters, but if you are, you could probably LIVE in this restaurant. I do, however, love Asian fusion! Scanning the menu, it's a good sign to see they feature a small but specially selected variety of options. To drink, I selected a Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc, which was perfectly refreshing. Although I can't remember my boyfriend's choice, it was a great Pinot Noir! I don't think you could make a bad decision here. You're given a complimentary bowl of edamame with black salt and they were very addictive. A nice touch! Then, we started with the mussels in a perfectly seasoned broth. We both felt the dish required a heftier bread, rather than croutons, to sop up the delicious sauce, but that didn't stop us! We tried two entrees, the pork chop and the snapper, and surprisingly, pork was the winner! It was bone-in and had such developed flavor, especially the way it was paired with root veggies and a splash of sauce. We loved it! On the other hand, my snapper could've used a little pizazz, although it was cooked perfectly. While it was "Cantonese" style, my boyfriend referred to it as a "Purists' Snapper," given it was lightly decorated with mild-tasting mushrooms and arrived with a side of black rice, which I felt could also use something extra! Many will like this because of its simplicity, but I was expecting the gamut of Asian flavors: maybe spicy chilies or ginger and garlic, etc. I think that the service and kitchen staff work very hard to please guests here and you will be treated like royalty, but unfortunately it's not somewhere we can return again and again due to the price tag. I hesitated coming here for a year because I was very skeptical about their gluten free options. I called before hand to ask and was assured that they could accommodate gluten free needs due to Celiacs. The restaurant overall is very nice, its polished, sleek, and has an open scratch kitchen. They have nice decor and floor to ceiling windows and outdoor seating to look at the beach. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly- she helped me find out what was gluten free or could be made gluten free with the cocktail menu and the dinner menu. Unfortunately, there weren't many options which is what I was afraid of. She recommended the chicken pho which I thought was a great idea because I love pho and its pretty much already gluten free. Apparently, the way they make their pho it is not gluten free and the "modified" version I was served was terrible. The broth had 0 flavor like literally it tasted like water. It needed salt badly. All of the ingredients appear to have just been thrown on top at the end and nothing really melded. They just placed grilled chicken over the top which had a strong grill/char flavor and it contrasted everything else. She admitted when I asked her about it that they did not realize the chicken was not gluten free and this was what they came up with at the last minute. I would have been better off being offered grilled fish, a side, and a veggie rather than unseasoned pho. I threw it out once I got home. They oysters and sashimi platter were on point. My husbands food was also on point. I am on the fence about recommending this place really that someone w/ Celiacs/gluten allergy can really come and enjoy. After tip it was about 200.00. The other positives are the location to the beach and if you are staying on the strip you can easily walk here and avoid valet fees and have a nice stroll back after dinner. Crab cakes are always a staple, but not how it is prepared here with a dazzling curry flavor! Who would have thought curry and crab would work, but it does and oh so well! The bold flavors of the dry rubbed spicy curry chicken wings served with a yogurt dipping sauce and naan, were a unique find! I love spicy food and curry so this was a winner! Get this if you love spicy! In Florida, Salt at the Ritz Carlton Amelia island was my favorite restaurant, but Ocean Hai may be the new contender! I mean after all this was my third meal here in the last 24 hours and all were exemplary! If you are a foodie than appreciates fine dining and new flavor combinations (new twists on classics) appeal to you, go dine at Ocean Hai. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and they surprisingly had children's menus. The restaurant interior was beautifully decorated (modern coastal) and had great views of the beach. The food was wonderful! The wagyu beef skewers with shishito peppers was a delicious appetizer and generously portioned . The sushi was fresh and gorgeously plated. Like many service businesses, the Ocean Hai had some ramp-up issues starting late last year, but I am glad to say they are back on track. Although they were very busy, Service was prompt & personal. the food is great. We typically enjoy one of the many appies, then go to the sushi menu for mains . Haven't strayed from that trend in the many times we've been here. They have a nice selection of sushi rolls, & will accommodate special orders if there is something else you crave. also have a good wine selection (& on Wednesday's bottles are 1/2 price, so treat yourself!). Wow, what a difference a year makes. We had the tasting menu approximately one year ago, enjoying it, and once more today. Tonight's dinner -- pretty much from start to finish -- was a stumble. No host when we arrived. No acknowledgment of my reservation requests. Lackadaisical service, making mistakes on the course ingredients and recurring missing utensils. While the tasting menu had ample courses, most of them were yawn worthy, falling far short of expectations -- vegetable egg rolls, pot stickers, meh. Sauces on other courses were over salted. And a substitution for dessert without an explanation? TL;DR: hard pass. read more

We decided to try Ocean Hai as guests of the Grand Wyndham. It's Asian Fusion promise and convenient location seemed to be the best place to start our cullinary adventures while on vacation in Clearwater Beach. The positives: Nice atmosphere, good location, varied menu offerings from fresh sushi to Pho and other Asian seafood dishes. The lackluster: My husband ordered the Crazy Rich Asian and the Sunset Roll, they were fine, standard sushi, nothing amazing, nothing terrible. I ordered the Da Grand Pho entree, a pho entree with pork belly for the protein. It was disappointing, only noodles, broth, the pork, and one hard boiled egg. It produced a single note in what should be a symphony of flavor that Pho traditionally offers. The pork belly was good in texture and flavor, but it was otherwise a let down. It needed acidity and freshness to balance the dish. We originally tried to just walk in the place was relatively empty, but the host made us make a reservation and come back in an hour, and guess what, still empty, and when we did, she told us to sit to wait to be seated, and no sooner than we sat she asked us to follow her, so strange. I realize staffing shortages affect the restaurant industry, but they had an abundance of employees sitting around not accomplishing all that much. This is inside the Wyndham Grand and has both inside and outside seating available. Its an Asian fusion style with both sushi and regular entrees. Outside is quite nice with a view of the gulf and where we ate. We had a wonderful dinner experience with great food and wine and excellent service from Andrew! The grouper was the star- so fresh and delicious, but everything was quite good. We will definitely eat here again when we come back to clearwater! read more
