    Lo Mai Gai (糯米雞)
    Joyce G.

My go to for roasted ducks. Got some snacks to eat like BBQ Pork Buns, Lo Mai Gai (糯米雞), and chicken feet. They were delicious and filling. Store is next to GW Supermarket and others at the strip mall. Parking is easy to find during the weekdays and totally different story on weekends. Service is great and fast.

hahah big ups to my post in 2022! Ok yes its been a min but still a really good solid choice for quick affordable dim sum! This time around they deserve the 5 stars! Well since this is supposed to be a new post - my old one was good too.... Ocean Island dim sum offers the same products as any other dim sum place that offer push carts except less staff means the more you can save on the overall price. With that being said if you just want dim sum without the white cloth table setting and tea service then this is the place for you. You walk towards the back, look at the menu, on the bottom left of the pictured item you will see A or B. on the top right in green you will see the price for A and B... decide what you want, when its your turn they will let you know. If you are taking to go then come anytime but if you want good dim sum and a table remember early bird gets the worm!! (pssst.. 3 tables only at this restaurant) If you don't know what to get, this is what you should try.. 24. Pan fried leek dumpling 29. Pork and shrimp sweet rice sticky dumpling 30. Sesame ball 1. Ocean Island shrimp dumpling 2. Siu mai pork and shrimp dumpling 19. Steamed BBQ pork bun 21. Steamed Chinese sausage 46. Cruller wrapped rice roll If your still hungry after all this order a wonton noodle soup and triple item BBQ rice plate!

    Beautiful egg tarts

My mom loves getting dim sum here. The foods are always fresh. One of her favs are the egg tarts. The golden orange/yellow color and the buttery crust lol yumm...tastes even better when it's fresh out. Recently, she discovered the sesame buns. Omg! These were so good. Inside had a good amount of sesame. I always enjoyed the turnip cakes here. Never burnt and super fresh. Never received an ugly piece. The Har Gow was good as well. The shrimps tasted good. Not so salty. The skin was good too. It didn't fell apart. My mom never had a problem ordering. We will return Hehhe

The sesame balls, shrimp dumplings, and shrimp rice rolls here are typically exceptional. My friends have mentioned that the chicken feet can be inconsistent. Occasionally, they may be mild, while at other times they offer a pleasant level of spice. While I haven't personally experienced the taste of chicken feet, I can discern when a dish lacks flavor. She then begins incorporating her own ingredients into the chicken feet. She also enjoys the roasted pork. There are instances when the white rice cake is soft, and the flavor is not quite right, leading me to discard it. I believe this establishment offers some of the finest dim sum options for takeout.

Nor mai gai, spring rolls, pineapple buns, siu mai and baked cha siu baos at the top! Yum

Nor mai gai (sticky rice, meat, and mushrooms wrapped in a lotus leaf) was so moist and flavorful. Really good shrimp spring rolls. Siu mai (pork and shrimp dumpling) was solid, not as good as Lucky 1, but decent. Very good baked cha siu bao (bbq pork bun), lots of meat. Excellent nai wong bo lo bai, (pineapple custard bun) so much custard. There's some tables inside, but it's more of a takeout place. My family got takeout here years ago and I think the food quality has improved since then! Will definitely stop by if I'm in the area again.

A Takeout Dim Sum spot that's conveniently next to Great Wall Market in Monterey Park, Ca. Ocean Island is a Cantonese restaurant that is mainly takeout and specializes in Dim Sum and Barbeque dishes, the menu has an impressive selection of baked, steamed, fried dim sum. DIM SUM PRICES are broken down into two categories: A):$4.89 and B): $5.59. In addition, pastries, congees, noodle soups, rice rolls, roasted Chinese BBQ, and BBQ rice plates can also be found and ordered. Although it's mainly a takeout spot, a few tables are available for dine-in. It's divey. It's casual. Ocean Island is perfect for a quick and delicious snack, lunch, or dinner. NOT the best place in town for "takeout dim sum", but not the worst either. The staff are friendly. *Cash and Credit Card accepted. *Parking shared with Great Wall market and other businesses.

Ohhhhh don't you love it?! Cause I love it!!! Dim Sum food is always the best no matter what time it is in the world. And no matter where you at, it's always the BEST TIME. I came here to try this place out and it was just so delicious. The food were made fresh an either baked or steamed to that perfect temperature. Staff were so happy and excited to help their customers and welcome them as they walked on in. The price range is affordable and not too expensive. The ambiance here was a little humid because they were steaming new freshly made food but that was okay. I would definitely come back when I am ever hungry for a quick snack.

Ambiance: it's a tiny dim sum place located right outside a grocery store, limited dining table inside and no one is cleaning, it's mainly a takeout place Service: disorganized lines for ordering and picking up, some people cut the line more likely unintentionally Food: variety choices of dim sum and Cantonese bbq Pork & Shrimp Dumpling Siu Mai - *** average Shrimp w/Green Leek Dumpling - **** recommend Shrimp & Scallop Dumpling - *** average taste Sesame Ball - **** crispy and chewy, filled with red beans, recomedn BBQ Pork Pastry - *** crispy outside, lack of flavor inside Roasted Pork - *** crispy but very dry Chicken - ** undercooked and flavorless Roasted Duck HK Style - **** recommend Price: generous portions and affordable prices, expect $40~$45 per order for a group of two to three, and note it's cash only payment here

Pork Rib Plate, comes with Chicken Feet too...Really good

I was a big fan of this location when it was the old 'Yum Cha Cafe,' and when I was in the area, I learned it's now, 'Ocean Island.' As much as I miss the previous establishment, Ocean Island does have a good selection of dim sum, pastries, and your basic congees (jook), noodle soups, and rice plates. There's like three tables inside if you want to eat there, but with the constant foot traffic, you may just to take your food to-go (like everyone else). It really helps if you speak Mandarin or Cantonese here - the ladies are working fast and there's kind of a line and also kind of none lol. I was trying to place an order and they didn't hear me for some reason, then this kind lady who spoke Mandarin told them I wanted to place an order (so nice!) and I did just that. I only came here to try their Boa Luo Bao (Pineapple Bun) and their Pork Ribs Rice Plate, which turned out really good on everything. The dim sum also looked good, but I feel like the pastries and plate meals might be better value. Even though it's a to-go shop, the prices are still slightly steep for dim sum - about $5-$7 per dish or so...that definitely adds up! Quality of food is good though. Parking here is a hit or miss in the lot, depending on the day you go there. It shares a parking lot with other shops and the giant supermarket, so parking space can come sparingly. But street parking is available if it's really packed. But yeah if you're in the area, worth stopping in and get your dim sum fix.

Cash and card accepted with no additional fees, Visa and Master cards. I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of food they have for a to-go dim sum spot. So good we got it TWICE in the same week. You need to give their deep fried items a try. None of them are soggy and dripping with grease like other places are. All their baked buns the dough used for it seem to be the same for all of them- soft, great texture, fluffy, moist. Rice roll batter has a great texture. 24. Pan Fried Leek Dumpling- very good, filled with ground pork mixed in with leek. There was a crisp to the pan fried sides (both sides). 30. Sesame Ball- filling filled to the brim, very crispy and amazing texture. Filled with red bean filling, if you prefer the lotus kind I would steer away. Not too sweet. Gao Choi Gao (11. Shrimp w/ Green Leek Dumpling)- filling was great, the wrapper fell apart before we got home to eat. Still very good! Chashu Cheung Fun (41. BBQ Pork Rice Roll)- surprisingly had green onions and cilantro, which I loved! Added so much depth. Usually restaurants only fill it with the bbq pork and no greens. Dan Tat (37. Egg Custard Tarts)- pastry shell was nice and flaky. Custard wasn't too sweet or dense.

CASH ONLY. Craved for an early dim sum and we stumbled at this place. I was the co-pilot and searched for "along the way dim sum". I did not do a lot of research as we are getting close to the place I just trust Yelp's stars. so here we were. We thought we could eat dine-in - yes we did- but I don't recommend it. This place is good for you to go. No one will serve and help - and the place is small. Also, this is one of the most stressful experiences I had in ordering! you have to say what u want fast because they are all scrambling fast, I do not know all the names of the food, I just point at it and ugh I just felt so rushed. So thankful to the guy customer who helped us say what we want. Anyway, parking is a lot. There's no restroom, do not come on a rush hour I guess. Be prepared. Our orders cost us about $40ish- check my pics :) and 1 bottled water included. I will still come back if we ever happen to pass by this place because the SIOMAI and BAKED PORK BUNS are undeniably GOOD but next time I come, I know the drill and will not be surprised. Just Siomai and pork buns that's it! Bye!

    This sweet thing tastes good

This was next to. Table of 10 where each individual was just about shouting to each other as their normal tone. I did not like the ordering process which is a change from regilar dimsum places where people walk around with carts of good stuff. You have to scan a QR code to get to the menu so you don't really see what you're getting other that the picture you see on your phone. This place by the way is way pricier than actually better dimsum restaurants. So the food came out.. Pork spare ribs w/ blackbean sauce - the meat was chewy, almost tough to eat, and with a generous hint of MSG. Taro with chinese sausage - bland taro base, stale topping of supposed to be ground chinese sausage. Chicken feet - overcooked Water spinach - pale green, unfresh taste, two bites and I had yo give it up. Salt and pepper pork chop - this is ordinary at best compared to places in Monterey Park and Rowland and Hacienda Heights. Beef Chow fun - the only thing we mostly ate. Shrimp and pork siumai - I was so disappointed I list my appetite by this time. Needless to say, we felt like we wasted our $100 plus tax and tip..$120.00 + , for two prople for dimsum. We left the taro and water spinach and took home more than we ate because maybe I can tweak the left overs at home. Have I talked about the service yet? I will not because it was almost non- existent. I get it's Sunday lunch, but really? We never got the water we asked for but the oolong tea was decent. Again, very disappointing experience. I would have taken bad service with good food but bad service and bad food? One star and not a damn little spark more. Get in the game Lunasia in Alhambra!

The crust was super flaky, and custard was velvety smooth and not too sweet. We were so tempted to get seconds but we were too full. -The bean curd wrapped with shrimp and pork was on point as well. -The chicken feet didn't really meet expectations. We got the roast duck but it wasn't very meaty or flavorful. We got the congee which was ok, but lacked any definite personality. The chewy fried dumplings were more dough than filling. The siu mai and veggie dumplings were both solid. I didn't try the bitter melon or turnip cakes because I don't like the taste of either, but I was happy to see them available. We got a claypot rice dish with spare ribs and Chinese sausage which was good but the rice was not crispy on the bottom. Things that were delicious: The pineapple bun with the custard filling. 5/5 The beefball, well formed, with the nicest visible chunks of water chestnuts and strong cilantro flavor...usually this meat dish has a hint of orange rind, which I don't like...so I was happy the meatball was more cilantro forward. 5/5 The long rice noodle with beef...also we had the the same with bbq pork were delish. 5/5 for all three...as we also had the shrimp one, my party ate it all up first. I didn't eat the chicken feet, but it was enjoyed by all. The siu mai were large and made with shrimp, which I can't eat, but our party of 6 enjoyed. The platterful of soy chicken was enjoyed by all, just beware the chicken head will be included if you are squeamish. The soy chicken feet, also seemed to please. No one rushed us out even though the dim sum service was over by 3 pm. We had a leisurely meal and waiters made sure to come by and refill our tea kettles. I really enjoyed Capital Seafood today. About 10 years ago, I had a bad experience with takeout roasted duck, so I avoided coming back, but things change for the better.....food was great...and clearly a lot of diners packed thr place and were smiling and laughing as they dined.... I even enjoyed watching the staff change the dining room to accommodate a large banquet later this evening, which included the assembly of a large stage/dais. Very interesting how the waiters transformed the dining room to accommodate the needs of the banquet to come. Well done staff!!

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try

Hubby wanted to get dim sum for new year and luckily we live close to Lunasia. Like most locations,…read morethe food is pretty consistent and the servers are pretty attentive. This location is pretty spacious and even has a second floor for dining. Though we were seated inside, a lot of people were coming in and out for take out. They have a QR code to scan the menu and send your order to the kitchen. Unfortunately, they forgot our order of shumai. We had already finished eating before it even came. The waitress was kind but apparently had to bring the receipt back because the staff was claiming we already received it.

Everything is ordered by piece, so you can mix and match exactly what you want by filling out the form. Came by on a Saturday craving a few things and ordered siu mai, har gow, BBQ pork buns, ham sui gok, and sesame balls. Once you place your order, everything comes out pretty fast. Overall the items are decent and definitely hit the craving. The BBQ pork bun was a little dry for me, but I liked the sesame balls and ham sui gok, nice and crispy on the outside with a chewy texture. Solid spot if you're in a rush or just want a quick dim sum fix.

I have been going to this place to satisfy my dim sum cravings ever since it used to be "Fong's Dim…read moreSum" back in the 1980's. Yes, that's how long this place has survived & for good reason. They were the first to serve fresh & tasty dim sum to-go for a reasonable price at good value due to their big portion sizes. However, my son & I, went there recently & ordered the usual Siu Mai, Baked BBQ Bun & Steamed BBQ bun. We usually call in our orders in advance to avoid the long wait outside but this time things seem off. Firstly, the lady cannot understand our order & we were put on hold while there seem to be a banter between her & a gentlemen inside for sometime. Secondly, when we finally got there & picked up the order, one of the items given was wrong. Instead of Char Siu Bao, we had Har Gow. So, we waited for another 15 minutes more to get the correct item. When we got home & opened the bags, the Siu Mai had gotten smaller & the worst part is that one of the Baked BBQ Bun had a cockroach pressed on the outside layer of the bun (see picture). I tried to contact the owner first to let them know so it can be corrected before posting it here but no one called. I know that this can affect their "safety food rating" & thus their sales. But if there was indeed a change in management or ownership, they need to fix the sizing portion & bug problem so they could live up to the history & expectations of their loyal clientele.
