Dear Better Business Bureau, I am writing to file a complaint regarding a billing practice at Longo Seafood Restaurant. Recently, my family of four visited the restaurant. The four of us were two adults and our two children, ages 9, and 6. Food are Good Service is Bad Hygiene is Ok But when we ordered our drinks, we specifically ordered four glasses of ice water. We did not order tea, and no one in our family drank the tea that was brought to our table. However, when we received the bill, the restaurant charged us $1.99 per person for tea, for a total of $7.96. I asked the restaurant staff why we were being charged for tea when nobody had ordered or consumed it. I was told that every person sitting at a table is automatically charged $1.99 for tea, and that this was the restaurant's policy. When I questioned the practice, I was told, in substance, that if I did not agree with the policy, I should not come to the restaurant. I find this practice concerning, particularly because the charge was not something we requested or consumed. I also do not recall being clearly informed before ordering that each person would automatically be charged $1.99 for tea regardless of whether the tea was ordered or consumed. I am not filing this complaint simply because of the $7.96 charge. My concern is the transparency of the restaurant's mandatory charge and the way the policy is communicated to customers. I respectfully ask the BBB to review this complaint and, if appropriate, ask the restaurant to clearly disclose this mandatory tea charge to customers before they order or be seated, so customers can make an informed decision. I would also appreciate clarification as to whether this type of mandatory beverage charge is properly disclosed to customers under applicable consumer-protection and business-practice requirements. 4 Stars = Good, 5 Stars = Great. This place is a 3.75 star. Good enough to be a 4. We were originally going to the Sea Harbour place with the rooster in Rosemead, but they were closed due to "vermin infestation" and eventually might have closed permanently as of this moment. After finally finding parking and walking to the restaurant, walk past by 2 dead roaches, go figure. The dining room was very fancy looking, a bit tacky, but better than being run down. This is a no cart place, and the food came out pretty quickly. The flavor of all the dishes were pretty on point. So there's really nothing to write here. They missed two of my items so I had to remind them and at the end we only got one of them. But it's fine since we pretty much over ordered any way. Had a great time with my buddy and his Chinese girlfriend. She knew how to communicate with the servers giving us an advantage with the ordering and service. Cons: -it's a little pricey on the weekends, almost no items are on A tier price; while the best ones are C tier like shumai and shrimp dumpling. -wait time is a little slow especially after your first order. Make sure you get everything in on your first go. They're super busy and everything is made fresh, so it takes longer though it all comes out piping hot. Pros: -shumai were the largest ones I've ever seen and they taste great. The shrimp dumplings are one of the best I've had. Very tasty. There is a large TV light display in here are an amazing number for people and tables you order from the menu and the dishes are brought out. Some minor problems. The dessert items were brought up first and one of the items a scallop first they said they were out of it then they said they already delivered it, but they identified as the scallop roll did not have scallop in it with some form of meat Flavors were very good prices were reasonable for the area two of us ate for about $30 a person. I am always looking for new dim sum spots to try whenever I am in Los Angeles. I have passed by Longo Seafood Restaurant many times but never paid much attention to it. Despite seeing average reviews and hearing about mediocre service, I decided to give it a try. We arrived near the end of their dim sum service hours, but they were still able to accommodate all of our orders. We stuck with some classics, including shumai, beef meatballs, and beef cheung fun, and also ordered the beef ho fun. One of my favorite dim sum dishes is shumai, and the ones here were nearly twice the size of the typical versions I have had elsewhere. They were juicy, flavorful, and definitely a standout dish. I also really enjoyed the beef ho fun, which we ordered wet style rather than dry. It came with tender slices of beef, soft wide rice noodles, Chinese broccoli, and was smothered in a rich, savory brown sauce. The dish was delicious, and the portion size was very generous. Overall, I thought this was a solid and authentic dim sum restaurant. The service was attentive, and our food arrived fairly quickly. I love that they have my favorite hard-to-find items like the almond tea with puff pastry and rice rolls with braised beef. The best part? It's all done well, authentically, and is super tasty. There's an assortment of veggies and proteins where you can order a ala carte or as a lunch combo plate. They also have dim sum options if you're looking to pick any up. Prices are pretty good, a ala carte runs about $8 I think for a large and 2 item combos are $9-10. Spent $19 for a large portion of fried pork chop (forgot to take a picture) and a 2 item combo with Char siu and roasted pork To be honest, I probably have a better experience with this place mainly due to the fact that I went early where everything was still fresh. Might be different later in the day for food items that may have been sitting for a while. One thing I do like about all of the items we ordered was that they were not overly salted. Some might think it's bland, but I enjoy the light flavoring. The roasted pork was done well, just enough fattiness to give flavor. Same with fried porkchop. The food was actually good, but the service was one of the worst I've experienced. We came in around 5:00 PM on a weekend with a party of 16 and were seated in a private room. From what we could tell, there was only one server working the dining area. Our first request was simple: 15 glasses of water. We waited about 20 minutes. When the server finally returned, he didn't even bring the water to our table. Instead, he placed all the glasses on the service station inside the room, said, "The water is here," and walked away, expecting us to serve ourselves. Later, my sister-in-law asked for two more plates of peanuts. It took another 10 minutes, but this time the same server had no problem walking over and handing the plates directly to her. So apparently bringing items to the table was possible after all. Being busy is one thing. Being understaffed is a management issue. But making customers do part of the server's job is unacceptable. We were paying customers, not members of the waitstaff. Funny thing is, we still need to pay the 20% tips...how wonderful. The food deserves credit, but the service completely overshadowed the meal. We arrived towards the end of their service near the 3:00 PM break, and usually, at that time, you're usually getting rushed to leave, but the staff here was incredibly patient and let us enjoy our meal at our own pace. The pastry was incredibly flaky and buttery, and the honey glaze on top gave it that authentic sweet-and-savory balance that is hard to find. Bean Curd Roll: Expertly prepared. Yum! This places's dim sum is legit!! They seemed promising when i scoped out their smaller side shop for togo orders on the left of the restaurant. When my acupuncture office next door confirmed, "they're pretty good!", i decided to give em a try: chicken feet, spare ribs, 2 deep fried meat dumplings, and a sesame ball all for $13.77 including tax! The lady, considering the place, was actually pretty friendly, enthusiastic, and patient with all my questions. I visited Longo Seafood Restaurant expecting a good dining experience, but unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, no one greeted us. We were simply seated at a table without any welcome or acknowledgment. The dining room had about 15 round tables, and only one other table besides ours was occupied, so the restaurant was not particularly busy. After being seated, we weren't offered water, tea, or even menus. We waited 27 minutes without a single staff member checking on us, acknowledging us, or taking our order. At that point, we decided to leave. As we stood up and walked toward the exit, we still had not been acknowledged by anyone. One employee noticed that we were leaving, but instead of asking if everything was okay or apologizing for the wait, he walked over to our table and started clearing away the untouched peanuts that had been left there. We never even had the opportunity to place an order. I understand that restaurants can have busy moments, but that did not appear to be the case during our visit. Basic customer service starts with greeting guests, offering water, and checking in with them. Waiting 27 minutes without any service or communication especially when the dining room was mostly empty was unacceptable. Based on this experience, I would not return. read more

Eventually the server came back with a bag of our boxed up leftovers. There were 4 boxes plus a soup container, so okay I guess we have all of our leftovers...until, my son got home from work the next day and prepared to eat the leftovers. Shocked to see the there was duck bones only like the neck bone, back etc... but no pieces with breast meat and no drumstick or wing drummette. Where's our food?! I called the restaurant and originally the guy who answered the phone, not only refused to give me their name denied not giving us out leftovers, but said fine - come in and they'll give us a replacement for the roast duck. My son goes the next day and they declined to give him anything and humiliated him for even suggesting a replacement. The manager also refused and asked who authorized it- again, no one would give me their name when I called. My son left disappointed. I call again the next day and spoke to the manager and a staff person. They all claim that the cameras would show that food was being boxed. Really? How do I know that's my food being boxed and not another tables food. Does the camera zoom in? Either way, both the manager and staff were extremely rude, refused to apologize for any confusion, misunderstanding or anything whatsoever. Instead, yelled at me for accusing them of not packing my foot. I know if I got my full order of duck vs a bunch of bones. And the food and service wasn't even very good!! Don't go! First and foremost, obvious Health & Safety violations and related Cal Codes for restaurants are hard to ignore. California Retail Food Code (CalCode) § 114173 (and related sections) mandates that all equipment and storage containers be elevated at least six inches off the floor - clearly visible from the dining area. Also, no soap and no hot running water in the restrooms is another violation. Pretty obvious conditions that can be corrected, but I don't see it happening here. Additionally, there's a serious LA County fire code violation in which the rear-most occupancy section of the restaurant has its exit doors blocked and sealed off with a faux wall covering. An "Exit" sign is lit above those blocked doors, but it is not an obvious exit way as material is the same as the adjoining wall. A fire at midpoint to this portion of the restaurant will effectively block escape for at least 20-30 people that could potentially be trapped here. Other than that, I should mention the Honey Walnut prawns plate and spicy green bean plate are both pretty darn tasty. Okay, maybe I'll change this to 2-stars. read more

The food was good but since you do not have a dedicated waiter, be careful that you get the dishes that you ordered. We received a meat dumpling when we actually ordered a scallop dumpling and couldn't get it corrected. Also our desserts were served first, not at the end of the meal, plus one item came late when we were finished eating, so the staff did remove that item. Hard to find staff when we were finished as well as when we needed containers. If you're looking for tea carts with staff that walk around with dim sum, this restaurant does not have this. Lastly, be aware that there are two prices for the same dim sum item. Since the description of the prices were in Chinese, I think one price might have been for a standard size dim sum item and the other price for the same item, but for larger dim sum.
