I have eaten here many times, and every visit was an underwhelming experience. The only reason I would come here is because it is convenient for my family. They have an area specifically for ordering takeout, located towards the left of the main entrance. This is where you can get bbq and dim sum to go. The service quality is inconsistent. Some staff are rude and inattentive, while some are fine. They all act very stingy though. Menu is just like any other traditional Chinese restaurant. However, certain dishes here seem pretty overpriced for the portions. I prefer the dim sum over the main menu dishes. Their dim sum can be hit or miss. Worst dishes I have had from here: Beef Chow Fun (Dry Style): Mushy, overcooked noodles with way too much oil. Barely any beef is included in the dish. French Style Beef Tenderloin: Too salty and tough to chew. Hong Kong Style Roasted Duck: Greasy and slightly gamey. The meat is unevenly cooked. Lobster in Ginger & Scallion with E-mein: Lobster meat is rubbery, while noodles are overcooked and waterlogged. Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gow): Always overcooked and falls apart. Review for to-go: My first time coming here since it became Blooming VIP. After this visit, I would want to come more often. Plentiful parking in the morning. When I went inside the to-go area, seen pretty clean and not messy, it was only me and 2 other customers, which were in the roasted meat area, and I was the next one in line for dim sum. I didn't get her name, but the lady was so friendly, nice and patient. Any item that I chose, she would pick from underneath and give it to me so I don't get the one on top that's been exposed. She said I was lucky too because the chicken feet she happen to choose had 5 pcs instead of 4! Lol. She packaged everything nicely and at one point, was disrupted by another employee about a missed roast duck order - that did slow her down, as a line was forming behind me but she maintained her patience and even joked around with me. We saw nearly every table ordered the 特價乳豬全體 or Suckling Pig. Each table gets complimentary pickled vegetables and salted peanuts. The wasn't enough pickled vegetables and salted peanuts for everyone in large groups. The 特價乳豬全體 or Suckling Pig was so delicious and crispy. The 蟹肉魚肚羹 or Fish Maw and Crab soup for $24.99 was really good. They like to serve you, but we've notice server sometimes leave some soup in the bowl when they take the "empty" bowl away so you have to watch them. The 西汁核桃蝦 or Honey Walnut Shrimp for $23.99 had too much sauce on the shrimp. The walnut was alright. The 薑蔥肥牛爆遼參 or Ginger Sea cucumber for $32.99 barely had any sea cucumber and it was too salty. Loved my dimsum experience here! Food and service were both good. Came for dimsum on Christmas day and it was packed. Even parking was very hard to find in the lot, and we had to wait for a spot to open up. Luckily the restaurant was really big so my party of four didn't have to wait very long before we got seated. We ordered some dimsum dishes as well as some lunch dishes. All of the dimsum dishes were generally pretty good. My favorite was the fried shrimp egg roll. The steamed chicken feet was flavored well and skin was fall off the bone, beef balls were super tender, and shrimp rice noodle roll had silky smooth skin. Most dimsum items were in the $5.69 to $7.69 range, though I did see that prices are a bit cheaper if you come on weekdays (they have separate weekday vs weekend pricing for dimsum). Their desserts were really good as well. They were bringing around this giant pineapple bun which was supposedly invented by the owner here. I'm really glad we got one, as the mix of salted egg yolk, cheese, and pineapple inside went together surprisingly well. My favorite dessert was probably the coconut bun because it was super coconut-y. For entrees we got the lunch special dish, lobster with yi mian ($20.99), which we all thought was a steal. Parking was the hardest to find on Thanksgiving. The parking is shared with the entire plaza. Some of my family parked near the recycling center and we parked closer to the market. Some people dont know how to drive and blocked the way. My parents got there early to get a table. We were sat inside a room with other tables and two gender neutral bathrooms inside. You order what youd like from a piece of paper and they will cross it off when it gets delivered. Food does take a bit of time to get to you, so be prepared to drink lots of tea. The bussers and runners were friendly and nice. The food came hot and steaming. In the room that we were in, they had the football game on. Came here for Christmas Day lunch. 11:15am the place was already packed, waited 20 minutes for a table in a shared banquet room. 5 stars for the posh VIP dining room, lots of chinoise glitz and glam. 4 stars for the food- our $16/lb 5-lb Boston lobster was succulent but not very meaty, maybe 4 or 5 good pieces and the claws and knuckles had very little meat. It's half the Newport Seafood price and also half the taste. Fried string beans, dim sum all very good, especially the BEST chicken feet!!! Our family had booked out a banquet room. I was really eager and excited for some delicious SoCal Chinese, but unfortunately, this meal left a lot to be desired. Our poor server (not his fault!) was left as the only staffer in our room of over 40 people. That made getting drinks much slower... we didn't get water until the fourth course in. I've been here twice recently, and I have to say that I do like this place. I'm glad I don't have to drive to Lunasia in Alhambra for decent dim sum. Both times I were here, I came around 10AM. Size of the pig was just right for 8 of us. The rest of the food was expensive, serving sizes were okay and tasted ordinary. We ordered the green onion pan fried oysters, it was bad, the whole plate was covered with green onion, maybe 6 pieces of extra small oysters. I have to spit out the oyster because it tasted weird and no one else in our party dare to try it. The steam chicken (白切雞）wasn't good either. Now, why I give them a 4 star even I have so many complaints? Well, the service was good, ambiance was pleasant and clean. We might go back for the roasted pig again. Once we got seated, we were served with the menu and a paper to check off which items we wanted off the menu. We got the classic dim sum items, all were good but again for the price, I feel like the taste is very similar to those at a more casual-scale dim sum spot. Something that was different than normal was the truffle siu mai. While I usually love truffle, I couldn't really taste the truffle in the siu mai. Back at home, dim sum there is good and homey, but the palate at Blooming tastes actually more Chinese traditional if you know what I mean. The sticky dumpling was a nice fried sticky rice exterior with a filling of pork and other assorted ingredients that were delicious, especially when fresh hot. The egg tarts were pretty good, not too sweet and had a nice pastry crust on the outside. The coconut cake was like a jello with red beans on top; not too sweet, pleasant and very delicious as a dessert. The Lobster Yee Mein was a great pick for having great lobster mixed into the delicious noodles.
