Incredibly disappointed in the work done on my nails. I came in last Wednesday to get dip powder done for the first time (ever in my life) and I was told they could last up to three weeks to a month. While my nails initially turned out nice and I received tons of compliments, I already felt them trapping strands of my hair in between the dip powder and my natural nail while showering just six days later. One day after that (today), the dip powder on that nail has completely fallen off. I can also feel the dip powder lifting on another finger. I never get acrylics or dip powder because my natural nails are usually strong, but decided to treat myself this time. I never post yelp reviews but this is absolutely unacceptable. I Don t Recommend this Place it was my first time this place has bad customer service I walked in and no one greated me untile 10 mins later then this lady who was doing my feet she did a half job cleaning my feet while cleaning my feel I jumped in pain because she had stabbed my thumb I jumped and said it hurt and she said o. I do not want to review this place just because I want to keep it for myself BUT I need to brag about it though. I found out about Ocean via yelp when I wanted to try acrylic nails and cute designs. I did not know what to expect when I first walked in. As soon as I walked in, the ladies greeted me and asked me what I want and etc. They do not talk to each other as much as other salons so that's a plus and has spa chairs. I can see the quality in their products. I cooked and washed dishes all the time and all of the designs stayed on and they never chipped. I only need to go back if my nails are getting really long. All the ladies are talented with all the mani and pedi but if you want the designs, ask for Yvonne! Yvonne is the best! Her talent is phenomenal! She takes her time to give me the most unique designs ever. I get soo many compliments with her designs. See the photos that I posted! I never feel rushed with her. I've been coming here for years. All the ladies ( except for one , idk her name ) are super nice. Yvonne did the microblading on my eyebrows and they are beautiful. My pedicure go to lady is Tina , she's very nice and professional. I usually get my manicure with any one available , they all do a great job ( Yvonne is the best ) . I read some of the reviews and my thoughts are as follows : 1. You paid what you get .They are affordable for a regular pedicure and manicure . Of course gel , sparkles , design are extra . I went here since I am new to the area , (Monterey Park) tried finding a new nail place since my nail lady is allll the way in WEST COVINA (CreativeNails&Spa FYI) literally what I paid for here I could have done the whole pampering thing , pedi and glam fullset w/ my lady so any way ... back to my horror experience sooooo.. my starting price for a FILL!!! Was 35$! Ehh! Sure why not ? Then an additional 14$ for shape ... which I wasn't informed til she was done and about to paint ... but wait , another 14$ for gel !!! I had my nails filled once before and it was good. I came back for a new full set and pedicure hoping I would be happy with my result. The lady who helped me convinced me to get powder nails which is expensive but I was excited to try it. So it took over an hour for the nails to be done and they did look nice, however, 3 days later the nail started lifting from the cuticle side! I used crazy glue to stick them back. Exactly a week later two nails came off completely. Really?! I didn't even need a fill yet and two were off. I work and go to school so I had no time to go back and complain. This place was recently sold and is under new management. Although i liked the previous owner Tammy just fine, I think that selling the business was a great decision not just for her (personal issues) but for the business prospect as well. The new owners seem to be more in touch with the new nail trends and have done a great job at updating the establishment. Previously soaking your feet for pedicures was done on plastic tubs that they filled with warm water. Now that they've remodeled they have added new massage chairs in which you sit while they do your pedicure. I don't know about the rest of you but i'm assuming if you're spending your hard earned money on a pedicure a massage chair is not only expected but highly appreciated. Waxing used to be done in a makeshift room at the back. Instead of a door it had a curtain, and the top 1/3 of the wall consisted of a lattice fence, not unlike the ones you find at home improvement stores. It was ok for the time being and i think Tammy made the best of what she had, but fixing the waxing room seemed to create a more cohesive look with the rest of the place. Leaving it as it was would have made it seem unfinished and a bit of an eyesore in comparison to the rest of the establishment. I also noticed the polish selection is a lot better. The selection of polished before was quite limited and most of them were of unknown brands. Quite a few of them were dried out as well. I'm not sure how many they've replaced or if they simply bought all new ones but it seems the colors are a lot more on trend with what is generally being worn right now. They have a great selection of neon and neutrals which is something they lacked before. They also have other tools such as glitters, dotting tools, gems, stones, studs etc that they didn't have before. I don't particularly like the nail clay flowers myself as i find them to be a bit tacky for my taste, but if you do they're available as well. One of the times i was there while Tammy still owned the place, I asked her if she could do the matte nail with the shiny tip. It's a new spin on the traditional french tip where before you used color to distinguish the tip now you use the top coat's different finishes to accomplish the same. She had no idea what i was talking about even after i explained it to her, i think she thought i was crazy lol. As a result i had to go out and buy my own matte topcoat to do the look myself. Last time i was there i suggested the new owner visit sites like Pinterest or Youtube to see what the current trends are in nail art and i'm glad she took my suggestion and put it into practice. She told me all the things she had planned including a monitor mounted on the wall to display nail art (which i failed to notice if it was there or not last time i was there as i was too studying for finals) All in all i think they've done a great job at updating not only the premises but the services they offer as well. I had previously rated them 1/5 stars due to an incident i'd had with Tammy which you can read about below. YVONNE is the waxer from hell!!!!!!!!!!! I came here for 4 months from December 2014 to April 2015. I'm sad to have left, because the women are well-experienced and creative manicure and pedicurist. They can pretty much creative any kind of easy or difficult nail design. It was all because of a waxing incident. On April 20, 2015, I came to get my eyebrows and lip waxed. The lip waxing was fine, but not my eyebrows. She didn't burn my skin with the wax or leave a cut or pink mark with the tweezers. Instead, during the waxing procedure, she poked a small hole on the corner of my right eye near the tip of my eyebrow with her pointy stiletto nails. It must have occurred while she was pressing down on my skin during the eyebrow plucking... I called Yvonne herself and related the incident to her. She apologize and said that it wouldn't scar. I took excellent care of the wound for the next 2-3 weeks after the injury by keeping it clean and applying Neosporin each day until it healed, but unfortunately, it still left a scar. Man to Man What do I know about nail spas? Nearly nothing. Then why am I writing this review? Many things. For one, I, as a manly man, got hooked on having my nails done by Ocean Spa, the one under new ownership, even though my intuition told me that having your keratin polished in a salon is a 99% girly thing. My nails have never looked better, healthier, and stronger since I started going to Ocean Spa. The finger-massage at the end is both soothing and invigorating. And I like the lacquer that made my horny scales shine and smooth. They last for weeks even after multiple washing everyday. I wish the shine on my Beamer lasts that long. I also have a fetish about having my nails trimmed and buffed by a professional before going to Las Vegas: If your hands look good, you will be dealt a better hand. So, it has become a ritual for me to have a manicure before going to the Sin City. (Actually, I don't wager but my best friend does, and so I am or he is hoping for a hallo effect, my shine will make him shine.) Ocean Spa is spotlessly clean and furnished with the latest salon furniture and equipment. I haven't tried them yet, but I envied those who sat on the pedicure chairs when they had their Art Deco twists, 3-D, or funky French tips. Those seats look so comfortable. I like having one in my living room while watching NFL, NBA or NCAA games. You will be in good hands to ask for service from any of the three sisters who run the place, but I always ask for Yvonne. She graduated from CSULA with an art degree and has turned her talent and education into a career in graphic nail designs. She also works for a company that sells nail salon products and travels globally representing her employer on beauty shows and nail tech events. Although it will take a paradigm shift to make me do something bold for my nails, I have seen some of Yvonne's floral works and they are beautiful. The reason why they don't get a 5 is because I tried making an appt via yelp and even though it says 100% response they never got back to me. When I got there at 9:50am no one was there . Let me just start of by saying this is the cleanest nail salon I've been to. Everything is neat and organized. The whole staff is welcoming and friendly. Yvonne is my go to person for my nails. Ocean Nails has been my go to nail place for months now and I have referred a lot of co workers and friends here because they used to do an amazing job! Recently the last few times I've been going my gel manicures come out okay instead of great. But this most recent time was the worst by far, I went this past Sunday and it's barely day 5 and one nail already broke plus almost all of my nails have chipped. My gel manicures always last me at least 2 weeks before any breaking or chipping. Also the lady who did my nails did a poor job shaping and painting as well they weren't even. In my opinion the only time I've gotten a really good manicure was either by Tiffany or Yvonne they're the best at manicures/full sets. I showed up Saturday morning since my regualr nail spot (Bella's Spa) was fully booked. They helped me right away. BUT ...Never have I been to a nail salon where they hurt you once, not twice but 5 times!! I was bleeded from the side of two nails, my thumb still hurts today (it's monday). Every time I yelled "OUCH!" she would giggle and say "ohhhh hahaha sorry sorry" After about 5 times you kind of start thinking if she is doing this purposely or if she just literally doesn't know what she was doing?
