We decided to hit up ocean prime when we were in town for a convention. Our waiter was a little short and non personable but was very knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We had the tuna tartar appetizer and fresh oysters on the 1/2 shell. My wife ate all the oysters before I couldn't snag one! But the tuna tartar was amazing. The way the flavors stood out on their own and then came together perfectly. I ordered the scallops and risotto and my wife ordered the ahi tuna. I can only speak for my scallops and risotto. Ocean prime is always hit! We started off with some calamari and tuna tartar. The calamari and tuna were cooked perfectly. I like that the calamari was flavorful and had a nice spice to it. For my entree I ordered the filet mignon with a scallop on the side. The steak was perfectly cooked along with the scallop. We ordered 3 sides: mushrooms, Brussel sprouts and lobster Mac and cheese. Of course, the Mac and cheese was my favorite. I have a weakness for lobster Mac and cheese. There is a casual bar area with high top tables in a separate room from the main dining room, which alleviates the noisy barflies and allows for a more intimate setting in the dining room. The interior design was the first thing I noticed, the ambiance is modern, yet old money. We were blessed with not one, but two, servers who attended to our every need! The food was delicious from the house salad to the seared ahi tuna which was cooked to perfection. It was my daughter's birthday and we were treated to the delicious 12 layer carrot cake with pineapple syrup bedecked with a candle. If you can get past the prices, it's amazing! My husband fell out when I ordered $150 crab legs but they were 100% worth it in my opinion. Took our teen kids to one of our favorite restaurants for 2 of their birthdays. We were very disappointed with the service. The hostess asked whose birthday it was when we arrived and we told her. We were seated and given water. It was maybe 5 min before the waiter stopped by to say he'd be with us shortly. When he eventually came over we placed drink orders and it was probably another 15+ before our cocktails from the bar arrived. The table next to us was seated after us, had drinks and bread before our drinks ever came out. We had to ask for bread, follow up on our drinks from the bar, and later ask for our appetizer plates to be cleared. The waiter was polite and trying, but he had no help. No servers assistant and no management helping. When dessert came out there was no candle or mention of the birthdays. Really disappointing as the restaurant was informed of the occasion. Our first visit to Ocean Prime for our Anniversary on Nov 14th. We have been on lockdown due to Covid and rarely eat out but this was a real treat. The dress code is business casual but not enforced, everyone was comfortable and welcoming. The food was amazing both delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was attentive but didn't hover and everyone was practicing social distancing in the dining rooms. We shared oysters on the half shell and dined on seared scallops with lobster ravioli, the seasonal feature. Our visit to Ocean Prime was a huge disappointment. Upon arriving we sat in the lounge and waited 10 minutes for our server to be located, greet us and take our drink order. I ordered the bubbles and berries cocktail, while sitting next to the bar, I watched my server place her dirty hands inside of the dry ice bowl and place two dry ice balls into my glass. After I told her I didn't want her unwashed hands touching the ice, she had the bartender retrieve new dry ice. I was shocked that at a fine dining restaurant such as Ocean Prime, I have to remind the staff of proper sanitary practices. Once my drink was made correctly it was a tasty cocktail. For our entree we ordered crab cakes, goat cheese ravioli, deviled eggs and shrimp sauté. The crab cakes and deviled eggs were beautifully presented but lacked flavor. The goat cheese ravioli was ok but it wasn't worth the price. Our shrimp sauté was made with spoiled shrimp and had a foul odor when brought to the table. It was very sour to the taste and was sent back. Overall, I would not recommend Ocean Prime the service and the food were horrible. I tried several things off the menu, all were great but the items that really stood out to me were the Black Orchid cocktail, the hamachi crudo, the wedge salad (the dressing and marinated tomato's are to die for) and the flounder piccata. To my surprise Ocean Prime invited us back to try them again, which was very kind of them and truly unexpected. Of course after our first experience my family and I were hesitant and nervous, but surely it could be as bad as our first experience. I am pleased to say that it was a complete 180 from the first time we came, everything was great. Heather was very kind and accommodating, Omar our waiter was wonderful as well as the other staff. Our food was hot (to be expected) but not only that it actually tasted wonderfully. Food: the French onion soup was delicious topped with cheese and full of flavor. My gulf red snapper was great, it was very light. We ordered sautéed spinach instead of the creamed spinach and honestly I think that was one of our favorites, so much flavor. My sister and father loved their steaks. The dessert was wonderful as well, the butter cake was delicious as well as the 10 layer carrot cake, and the pineapple sauce with it was wonderful, the chocolate cake I didn't try but my sister loved it. Overall, my family and I had a great experience this time around and we are glad we decided to come back. I had a dinner reservation for 7 but arrived early for happy hour which is from 4-7. The pineapple finlandia martini is my favorite, and it's $7 during happy hour. The crab empanadas were good and so was the calamari. For dinner I had the teriyaki salmon and it was DELICIOUS!!! Our party shared the Mac & cheese & mashed potatoes which were outstanding. Our server was very attentive, even asking if they should send out the kid's plate early. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass - and let me tell you, I've had plenty of sea bass and until now my fav was Eddie V's in Austin (cus the one in Dallas just wasn't the same) - and tonight's sea bass totally out did Eddie V's, by a long shot.
