This was our 3rd New Years Eve in a row with them. Last year was not a great experience but we thought maybe it was just an overwhelming night. Last night was the worst dinner we have ever had out. First our reservation was for 8pm we arrived at 7:55 pm and the valet was a mess. I called to inform them we were just waiting to park the response was "We have a 15 min grace period" I am not sure if we were suppose to drive through the current cars or what? We were not seated until 9PM!!! If you knew you were that far behind why the rude comment of the grace period. Why not "no worries we are a bit backed up currently." Once seated it took 20 mins to be welcomed. No water, No drinks nothing. I had to ask if we had a server. Since it was so delayed we ordered everything. Appetizer, Dinner, Drinks. This was at 9:20pm. At 10 pm we still had no water, no drinks, no appetizer. I asked our server when we would get appetizer, drinks, even water he said "you don't have anything?" He comes back and tells us calamari is out. Brings us an alternative appetizer made with shellfish that my husband is allergic to! 10:20pm a table next to us is being served calamari. The manager was one we have not seen before (and we eat here often) he walked by us multiple times without asking if everything was ok? good? not one communication. When I called him over he had an attitude as though I was bothering him. Excuse me but 2 hours of waiting I would think you would be apologetic. He very rudely said "What do you want me to do? you have ate here before and the experience was better right? all I can do is comp your meal" I replied "Honestly we just want to eat we have now missed out on the other New Years plans due to this" He walked away. Not one time did he come back. We did not leave the restaurant until 11:25pm and we were a party of 2. It was very filling and had lots of pieces of lobster in it, which you don't always get at other restaurants. I don't expect much, as I have been disappointed with restaurants lately. This was a very nice anniversary celebration. Everything was good from the valet attendant to the last course. Our server was personable but not overly attentive. I had to be careful not to over indulge in the bread service and butter, served fresh from the oven. He had a NY Strip cooked absolutely to perfection-a true medium. The steak was seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly, and required no horseradish or au jus. The calamari has a Thai spin on it w/ a cold shredded carrot relish. Different, but delisioso!!!! I had the red fish that was absolutely devine; perfectly cooked and not overdone. Sushi happy hour is the way to go! Half price select rolls. Lunch is great to try many of the dinner menu dishes at half the price. This has been the restaurant to celebrate high school graduations and the day folks no longer fear being carded. Because valet was not available, guests could park by the entrance if space was available or the adjacent parking garage. For social distancing, rather than remove tables, the restaurant blocked off tables by the color of the table cloth, black = blocked off and white = open for diners. In addition to a paper menu, there was a card with a QR code to their online menu. Although some items on the wine list were not available, everything on their dinner menu was available. In the past, I had ordered the lamb chops. Although the filet is my go-to choice for steakhouses, I had it very recently. Fortunately, Ocean Prime is a seafood restaurant, as much as, it is a steakhouse. So, I decided on the Lobster Tails. Because I was not given a lobster bib or crackers, I knew it will not be a messy dining experience. The lobster meat had been removed and placed on top of the tail. As expected due to the price point, it was not a lot of meat. Even with the asparagus which came with the entree, the amount of food would not satisfy most diners. Fortunately, in addition to appetizers (Ocean Roll, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, and Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail), we had also ordered several sides for the table: Parmesan Truffle Fries, Whipped Garlic Potatoes, and Black Truffle Mac & Cheese. Of course, I had made sure to have room for dessert. Just like their dinner menu, all the items on the dessert menu. Unlike my entree, I had no desire to try a different dessert. My hubby took me here saturday night for a date. We sat for about 15 min waiting on waitstaff. We had about 3-4 servers stop by to ask if we had been helped???? One ordered our drink, one took appetizer order, etc.... The guy that should have been our server showed up after meal was served saying he'd be around if we needed anything. Our waitress that took the table was friendly and had plenty of suggestions. You could tell she was ready to leave as she did someone a solid by taking the table when she was supposed to be shutting down earlier. We went to the bar and your bartenders had their dumb phones playing the game (same game silently playing on all 6 TV's in bar)! We got to hear all the squeaks from the shoes on the court etc while we were trying to enjoy our cocktails. Our waitress wanted to go so she told us to have our last one in the bar. I truly don't know what makes people in general think they can play their phones loudly in an establishment such as this much less the staff. I asked him if he was listening to the game and he said "yes". I said the same one that is on the TV's behind you? I asked him to turn his phone off b/c we didn't want to listen to that in the bar. Like most high end steak and seafood restaurants you have to come prepared to spend money. My first experience at this restaurant was a birthday surprise dinner from my boyfriend. It's a really classy yet casual place. In my opinion some were under dressed while some were over dressed and even dressed inappropriately as though they were going to a night club or something I seen a variety of different people dinning , a few business meetings being hosted here , a couple of individuals dinning alone , other birthday parties being held and even a group of ladies were having girls night out. With Covid still being present they didn't require that we wear face mask but they did have plenty of hand sanitizer accessible as well as the seating was nicely spread out. Again, come prepared to spend money. Like most high end restaurants entrees didn't come with sides , sides were sold separately ranging from $15 to $35 . I didn't see that as a big deal. I ordered the lamb chops and my boyfriend ordered the crab cakes and we got the lobster Mac and cheese on the side to share . At first I did not think I would get full when my food arrived, just looking at the portion sizes . I completely misjudged, I was stuffed and that was without eating the Mac and cheese. Drinks were a little weak and very pricey. So I wouldn't recommend getting a drink if you're looking to get a little buzzed . For just the two of us , 2 entrees, 1 side , 2 drinks and NO dessert our bill came to about $250 and that's before tipping . Overall it was a nice setting and experience. While I really want to make this review about the food and the atmosphere and blah blah blah, I have to start with the most important part: our waiter, Chad. I get it, part of being a waiter is having a good personality, cool. But there's another level that Chad has mastered. When you speak to someone in such a way that it feels like you've known them forever...did we just become best friends? We were initially seated in an area that was too dimly lit and had too much traffic for my taste, but no one in our party wanted to make a big deal about it. When Chad came to greet us, he instantly picked up on the energy and asked if we'd feel more comfortable in a booth just behind us. From there he was an absolute angel when it came to recommending drinks and menu items. Once he found out we were visiting from Florida, he went above and beyond to compile a list of "Dallas musts". (We made our way through the list over the next 3 days and WOW). That was worth 5 stars all on it's own. Now on to less important things. It's Ocean Prime, we all know it's good. The food was great, but I'd avoid the truffle mac in the future. It has a nice flavor, but there's something missing. The brussel sprouts were DIVINE. I also ask for a veggie roll, it was fresh. Great option for anyone with shellfish allergies. Both appetizers are very flavorful and lite. We all had the same entrees they were the 10oz filet mignons. Cooked to our likings. I added truffle garlic to mine. All I can say is delicious. The filet mignons were cooked medium and they were just the right amount of pink. They had a nice seared and were savory. For sides we shared the black truffle Mac and cheese. It was creamy and the black truffle oil complimented well. Then we also had the roasted Brussels sprouts, which had a nice char with hints of a soy sauce. Both sides went well with the filet mignons and weren't too heavy. For dessert we had the crème brûlée, the ten layer carrot cake and chocolate torte. I will say the chocolate torte is very decadent. Cake carrot just the right amount of sweet. The crème brûlée with the berries would be difficult not to order a second one. We had reservations for a Sunday evening at 7, we were running late so we called to ask for a 7:30 reservation and were easily accommodated. We decided to order a bottle of wine instead of glasses. We wanted a bold, heavy Malbec. We went with what the waitress suggested, Bodega Colome Malbec. The other option was the Layer Cake brand. The Malbec wasn't nearly as bold and heavy as we were hoping for. We also started with a dozen oysters. They were tasty but not very meaty. Sundays there's a Surf and Turf special. We both prefer Ribeye Steaks but the 2 course Surf and Turf deal was to nice to pass up. I ordered the French Onion Soup as my first course, 8 oz filet (medium) and crab cake as my second course and the Truffle Mac and Cheese as my side dish. My friend ordered Lobster Bisque as his first course (with an up charge), 8 oz filet with Shrimp Scampi and Creamed Spinach as his side. The steaks were cooked perfectly but weren't flavorful, lacked basic salt. The crab cake, I'd pass on next time. Both the truffle Mac and cheese and creamed spinach were both really, really good. So my steak was prepared well (as in it tasted well, not the doneness; for all you "a steak is perfect at medium rare, and if you eat it any other way you're the epitome of evil" people) I loved the char they put on the steak like that was damn near perfect. So overall not bad; however the sides were lacking. The disappointment of the night was the Mac and cheese. It kinda tasted like a cheap Velveta, combined with with gigantic noodles, and lobster meat thrown in it. I honestly felt I coulda made some that was better, and wish I ordered another side instead. Came back for dinner on a weekday - we were able to book 2 seats last minute. We actually ended up sitting in the lounge area with the bar, which actually doesn't require reservations. We sat at a booth, and a waitress came to get our orders pretty quickly. The lounge has a smaller menu of appetizer dishes, but you can also order from their main dining menu. I actually enjoyed the lounge area because it's casual while still elegant. What we got: - bread basket: comes with pretzel bread and sourdough. I love sourdough, and it was just as I'd expected. The pretzel bread was pretty good! Tougher in texture and a little salty on the outside, but still fluffy on inside. Don't skip on these! - berries & bubbles (Belvedere Organic Lemon & Basil Vodka, Marinated Blackberries, Fresh Lemon, Domaine Chandon Brut, Dry Ice Smoke): Had to get their signature drink - very instagram-worthy on its own. Prepared tableside with some dry ice and marinated blackberries and blueberries, it's got a citrusy-sweet, sparkling taste. It's really cute and bubbly when it's served, so get your camera ready! - oysters on the half shell: Got a half-dozen of nice, fresh oysters, served on ice. Comes with horseradish and cocktail sauce, as well as lemon slices I thought that the horseradish lacked the spicy kick, but I just used more than I usually would. I think they're east coast oysters, as they were small in size. Good for me, as that's what I enjoy! - shrimp cocktail: Comes with 4 large shrimp! Pre-peeled, of course, so that you just take bites of it. They put it in a mini-tower on top of the oysters, a lovely presentation! - surf & turf (Scallops, Braised Short Rib, Gremolata): Since I was eating this by myself, I opted for an appetizer as my entree. The scallops were a little on the salty side, but they were done to the perfect temperature so that they were still juicy, not dry at all, with a nice sear. The gremolata on top gave a sweet taste to the scallops, and it had some white caviar within it too! The braised short rib was soft and tender, easily pulled apart with a fork and light touches of the knife, and full of flavor. All of this was delicately places atop a layer of mashed potato, which helped to balance out the salty/sweet/savory flavors. Parking: The restaurant offers valet service in front of the restaurant for $5. We were looking forward to dining at this restaurant during our trip to Dallas. Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment. We started off with a dozen East Coast oysters. They were not fresh, they were rubbery and dry. At this price point, the East Coast oysters should have come with the traditional three sauces, and they did not. They came with horseradish dumped in a container of ketchup. For the salad course, I had the Ahi tuna which was very flavorful but a bit much. The sauces were very overwhelming and very salty. For the entrée I had their signature dish the Chilean Seabass, which was not fresh and very overwhelming with sauce. The restaurant itself is very nice and the staff is courteous. Our server was excellent and provided outstanding service. However, I cannot recommend this place due to the fact that the food was average at best. Food: The complimentary bread and butter was fresh and good. Bread put me in the mind of a pretzel. The surf and turf wasn't the flavor profile I was expecting but still good and was extremely tender. I barely even needed a knife to cut it. The crab cakes were fresh and delicious. The slaw that accompanied the crab cakes was also good...no additional seasoning needed. If you love sauce like myself, ask for some additional on the side. Dessert: The chocolate cake was decant. The Butter cake was ok. I wish it was a bit more moist and in hinesight wish I would have asked for more "berry sauce" to sweeten & moisten it up a tad. Drinks: Bartender was happy to whip up something off the menu (Jack and Coke), more ice than I'm use to but still good.
